SETTING THE SCENE University of Memphis track and field squads return to action in their second meet of the indoor season at the Vanderbilt Invitational, on Friday. The Tigers look to improve on what was a strong start to the indoor season at Illinois. “This weekend is a completely different kind of meet for us,” head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. “It’s very small, it’s very exclusive and it’s going to be extremely competitive across the board. I feel fortunate that we’re invited and fortunate that we’re at the level to compete at a meet like this.” The meet will include nine men’s teams and 11 women’s teams. The Memphis men will face a field that includes No. 13 Georgia and No. 16 Ole
Miss. On the Women’s side, the field includes No. 5 Georgia and No. 15 Mississippi State. The event will be held at Vanderbilt University’s new Multipurpose Facility. The venue includes a six-lance, 300-meter Mondo track and eight sprint lanes. The two-day meet begins Friday at 5:00 p.m. (CT) with field events including the men’s and women’s high jump, long jump, weight throw and men’s pole vault. Competition resumes on Saturday at 10:30 am (CT) with a full slate of track events, with remaining field events beginning at 11:00 a.m. Results from the Vanderbilt Invitational will be posted on GoTigegrsGo.com as they are made available.
