REMATCH WITH RUTGERS Memphis plays three of its next four games on the road after passing the half-way point of conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a win over UCF. UCF marked the second conference team that Memphis faced off against in the home-and-home schedule (UConn was the first). The next repeat opponent for the Tigers will be Rutgers, a team that currently stands third in the league standings with a mark of 6-3. Rutgers is currently tied with USF for third in the standings, while Memphis is in a three-way tie for fifth at 4-5 through their first nine games. The Scarlet Knights will be looking to return the favor, as Memphis was less-than-hospitable during the first meeting between the two teams in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse earlier this season. That game went to overtime and saw the Tigers upset then No.23 ranked Rutgers, 74-73, for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2003. ABOUT RUTGERS Rutgers is looking for a third conference home win on Saturday afternoon. After the loss to the Tigers in the first meeting, the Scarlet Knights came home to host No. 1 UConn, falling 94-64. The team then bounced back with a pair of wins, but on the road, winning at UCF (69-48) and at Temple (74-68). Their next trip home was another ranked opponent, this time No. 5 Louisville. The Scarlet Knights had the Cardinals’ number until the late minutes of the game, falling 80-71 after having a lead at the half. Super scorer Kahleah Copper continues to shoot well from the field, shooting 59.2 percent and averaging 16.4 ppg, while freshman guard Tyler Scaife continues her strong first year campaign with 13.2 ppg. Inside, Betnijah Laney adds 13.1 ppg and is just missing a double-double with 9.5 rebounds a night. TIGERS WITHOUT TWO STARTERS IN UCF WIN The Tigers had to shake up their starting lineup in Wednesday afternoon’s game against UCF. After freshman guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran slid into the sideline boards at Louisville trying to track down an offensive rebound, she missed the UCF game. Senior center Pa’Sonna Hope also missed the UCF game. Both are day-to-day for the Tigers. FACING A STIFF DEFENSE Memphis has faced its share of tough defenses this year. That trend continues Saturday when Memphis faces Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have the nation’s 19th ranked defense, which allows just 57.3 ppg, and ranks seventh in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 34.1 percent from the field. Inside, Rutgers has the conference’s leading shotblocker in sophomore Rachel Hollivay. Hollivay averages 3.0 blocks a night. MACK HEATING IT UP Senior guard Devin Mack returned to the starting lineup against UCF for the first time since the conference opener against Temple and it paid immediate dividends. The senior drilled three straight field goals from beyond the arc to take Memphis from a one-point deficit to a seven-point lead. She finished the UCF game with 11 points, one shy of her career-high of 12 that she set the previous game at Louisville. That marked the first time in her Tiger career that Mack has scored double-digit points in back-to-back games. In the last five games, she has landed more threepoint field goals than her teammates and is shooting 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. ROWSER ALMOST POSTS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE Redshirt freshman guard Mooriah Rowser was knocking on the door of her first career double-dou-
ble on Wednesday. She grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and finished with eight points. DOWN TO SINGLE DIGITS Memphis has nine regular season games remaining heading in to the Rutgers game. Five of those nine games will be road games and four of those games will be against opponents that Memphis had not seen yet this season -- USF and Cincinnati. HEARN TAKES ON MORE DUTIES VS UCF Sophomore guard Ariel Hearn had to take on additional duties with freshman point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran missing the UCF game. Hearn played all 40 minutes of the UCF game at the point and finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists against just one turnover and two steals. Hearn also did a good job of putting the ball on the deck since teams are playing her tight on the perimeter, making a career-high 11 attempts from the free-throw line, where she knocked down nine tries. HEARN GOES DOUBLE DIGITS AGAIN Hearn scored nine from the free-throw line, but finished with 18 points in the win over UCF. That was her 18th double-digit scoring game of the season and the 42nd of her Tiger career. The three opponents to hold Hearn to single digits? East Tennessee State in the season-opener (9), Syracuse in the Paradise Jam tournament (9) and at UConn (7). Hearn has posted 20+ point games eight times already this season and now has 12 20+ point games for her young Tiger career. SWAIN POSTS CAREER NIGHT VS UCF Senior guard Jasbriell Swain is a nice story for the Tigers. Swain was a walk-on for the Tigers this year. After playing three seasons at Binghamton University, Swain moved home to Memphis to be close to her family. With the Tigers on a short roster, Swain went through the walk-on process and the Tigers processed an appeal on her behalf to the NCAA. The appeal was approved and Swain suited up for her first game as a Tiger in a road win at Wright State, where she opened her career with a bang, grabbing 16 rebounds. The next road trip, she was surprised by the Tigers’ coaching staff, who put her on scholarship for this season. As she has gotten comfortable in the Memphis system, Swain is starting to become a bigger offensive threat. She has posted back-to-back five assist games (her career high) against Louisville and UCF, and added her first career double-digit scoring night in the win over UCF, finishing with 10 points. GETTING ON THE GLASS Memphis is 7-1 when they out-rebound their opponents and 3-9 when they don’t. In the loss at Louisville, Memphis had a season-low seven offensive rebounds. .On the defensive glass, Memphis has been upside down in second chance points in four of the last six games. In the win over Rutgers, Memphis held a 14 point advance in second-chance points. The Tigers were even in the win at UCF, but have given up more offensive rebounds that their opponents have stuck back for points in each of the last three games. In league play, the Tigers are being out-rebounded by a -3.1 margin. ROWSER HIGHLY EFFICIENT IN LOUISVILLE GAME Redshirt sophomore Mooriah Rowser had her most efficient shooting night of the season in the game at Louisville. She was 7-for-10 from the field, finishing with 14 points. She scored 12 points in the second half alone against Louisville, at one point knocking down 12 of 13 straight points for the Tigers. Rowser might be finding her stroke late in the season. In the last two games, she is averaging 11 points per game.

HEAD COACH MELISSA McFERRIN
Melissa McFerrin 6th Season at Memphis At Memphis: 106-78 (.576) Career: 156-148 (.513)
McFERRIN’S RECORD BY OPPONENT
Melissa McFerrin was named the University of Memphis women’s basketball coach on April 19th, 2008, becoming the fourth coach in the program’s modern history. McFerrin, the 2008 Patriot League Coach of the Year, spent four seasons at American University in Washington D.C. Her 2007 American team advanced to the Patriot League championship game and her 2008 squad won the school’s first-ever Patriot League regular season championship, finishing with an 18-14 overall record. That team won 11 of 12 games down the stretch, advancing to the post season for the first time since 1997-98 with a WNIT bid. In four seasons at American, McFerrin compiled a 50-70 record and guided five different players to all-conference honors, while two other players earned all-freshman honors. Prior to her stint with American, McFerrin was an associate head coach at the University of Minnesota from 2002-2004. She helped Minnesota to a 50-15 record, including an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2004 and a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2003. She signed two recruiting classes ranked in the top 20 at Minnesota, and helped guide two Kodak All-Americans, including WNBA player
Lindsey Whalen. McFerrin’s time at Minnesota came after a five-year association with the WNBA. She began her affiliation with the WNBA as an assistant coach with the New York Liberty from 1997-1999, assisting with coaching duties for the 1997 WNBA Championship runner-up Liberty squad. She moved to the Washington Mystics as an assistant coach in 1999-2000, taking over as the Mystics’ General Manager in 2000. As the GM, she guided a team that made its first-ever WNBA play-off appearance in 2000, and handled all player trades and draft decisions before joining the coaching staff at Minnesota. Her WNBA stint followed a 14-year coaching career that made three different stops. McFerrin began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Wayland Baptist University in Texas from 1983-84. She was then hired as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University, where she helped the Chippewas to a 95-77 record in her six seasons, including a 1985 Mid-American Conference championship. She left Central Michigan in 1990 to become an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, she helped the Buckeyes to a 118-90 record and a 1993 Big Ten championship and an NCAA National Championship runner-up. That 1993 squad benefited from a 1992 McFerrin recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 in the nation, one of seven Buckeye recruiting classes to be nationallyranked under McFerrin’s watch at OSU. In 1996, McFerrin helped guide the Buckeyes to the NCAA Second Round before leaving the following season for the WNBA. A native of Cassville, Mo., McFerrin was a four-year letterwinner and starting point guard for the University of Missouri Tigers from 1979 to 1983. She helped Missouri to a 1983 Big Eight tournament championship and NCAA tournament berth and a 1982 NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance, earning Big Eight honorable mention honors and Scholar-Athlete awards along the way. She graduated cum laude with a degree in secondary education from Missouri in 1983, and received her master’s degree in physical education from Central Michigan in 1988.

HEARN PASSES 800 POINT BARRIER .Through 53 career games (50 games as a starter), sophomore guard Ariel Hearn has been a consistent scorer. She is averaging 15.3 ppg for her career (17.7 ppg this year). With her 18 points against UCF, Hearn pushed past the 800 career point mark. She enters Memphis’ firstever game at Rutgers with 813 career points. With nine regular season conference games left and at least one guaranteed conference tournament game, Hearn would need to average 18.7 ppg over the rest of the season to hit the 1,000 point mark this year. That would make her the first Tiger to hit the 1,000 point mark in two seasons since Brittany Carter did it after transferring to Memphis from Georgia in her 60th career game. Fastest to 1,000 career points 54 games -- LaTonya Johnson (sophomore year) 55 games -- Keeta Matthews (sophomore year) 60 games -- Brittany Carter (senior year) 62 games -- Kitty Allen (junior year) 64 games -- Tamika Whitmore (junior year) FRESHMAN POINT GUARD PUSHING TOWARD 100 Freshman point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran is 11 assists shy of the 100 assist mark. Only two other freshmen in Memphis history have dished out 100 or more assists in a season. The first was Ruth Ann Forsythe in 1983-84. The second was Ariel Hearn, last season. Hearn owns the freshman single season assist record with 109 assists last year. Wilder-Cochran has 89 assists against 73 turnovers and had a three-game, double-digit scoring streak snapped against Houston. WILLIAMS LOOKING FOR POINT 100 Freshman Taylor Williams was signed at Memphis as a guard. With a shallow Tiger front court, the Kansas City native has been playing at the three and four spots for the Tigers this season. She made her first collegiate career start in the Tigers’ home game against No. 1 UConn back in Memphis’ second conference game of the season, and she heads in to the rematch with Rutgers with 99 career points, one shy of her 100th point. FUQUA-BEY LOOKING FOR 400TH POINT Sophomore forward Asia Fuqua-Bey is 20 points shy of hitting the 400 point barrier. She has 380 career points through 53 games heading in to the rematch with Rutgers. Fuqua-Bey moved in to the Memphis starting lineup as a freshman last year just 14 games in to her Tiger career. She has now started 40 straight games for the Tigers.

HOPE TWO BLOCKS SHY OF CAREER TOP 10 Senior center Pa’Sonna Hope leads Memphis with 17 blocks so far this season (after 35 last year). Her 52 career blocks is just two shy of the Tigers’ career top 10. Hope played two seasons at Ole Miss before transferring to Memphis before the 2012-13 season. She had 33 blocked shots at Ole Miss, which would give her 85 for her entire college career. HEARN LOOKING FOR 100TH CAREER PICK Ariel Hearn is known as a scorer. Last year, she was known for her ability to drive the ball and score through contact, this year, it’s for her work from the three-point line. The next part of her game to get some attention will be defense. She enters the Rutgers game with 93 career steals, seven shy of the century mark. STRIVE FOR SEVENTY Memphis loves to run offense. When the Tigers score 70 or more points, they are 8-1. When they are held to 69 or fewer points, they are 2-9.
UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS
OVERTIME? SURE, WHY NOT? The Tigers have played 20 games this year, but have played almost 21 games worth of minutes. Memphis has played five overtime games already this season, including two double-overtime games. The Tigers are 1-1 in double overtime (both road games) and are 2-1 in overtime games with just one extra session (2-0 at home and 0-1 on the road). Memphis is now 13-12 in overtime games in school history and is 7-3 in overtime under Melissa McFerrin. Wisconsin holds the NCAA record for overtime games in a season with seven in 1999, fyi. FUQUA-BEY FIRST HALF HOLDS OFF COLD NIGHT FOR TIGERS With a number of Tigers under the weather, the Tigers’ shooting against Houston was icy cold -- if not for sophomore forward Asia Fuqua-Bey. Fuqua-Bey had 18 first half points in the win against Houston. She finished 9-for-15 from the field. The remainder of the Tigers’ starters were 6-for-32. FIRST WIN OVER RANKED OPPONENT Memphis brings a three-game winning streak in to Wednesday’s match-up with UConn after upsetting No. 23 Rutgers, 74-73, in overtime in the Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. That win was the first over a ranked team for Memphis since a 64-58 win over No. 20 DePaul on Jan. 26, 2003 (also a conference game). The win improved Memphis to 2-0 all-time against teams ranked No. 23 in the country and was the program’s 19th win over a ranked opponent in 93 tries. ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE SEASON The win over Rutgers was the first time this season the Tigers trailed at the half and came back for the victory. At one point, Memphis trailed by 11 points in the first half. That’s the biggest margin of deficit erased by Memphis this season. The previous best was 10 in the first game of the season against East Tennessee State. Memphis is 1-8 when trailing at the half this season. HOPE MISSES BULK OF HOUSTON GAME Senior Pa’Sonna Hope tried to play through illness when Memphis hosted Houston, but could manage just six minutes before the Tiger coaching staff put her on the bench. The single-digit minutes were the fewest of her career and were part of a four-game, double-digit scoring streak getting snapped against Houston. SWAIN STEPS UP AGAINST HOUSTON Senior guard Jasbriell Swain started the second half for the Tigers against Houston with Taylor Williams already tagged with two fouls. Swain responded by knocking down her first career triple for the Tigers and was 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, adding four rebounds. The six points was the most of her Memphis career. FUQUA-BEY EARNS REPEAT AMERICAN ATHLETIC WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Asia Fuqua-Bey was named to The American’s weekly honor roll after hitting the game-winning freethrows in overtime vs. No. 23 Rutgers and then leading the Tigers with 18 points in the win over Houston. It was the second time this season for Fuqua-Bey to earn a spot on the American Athletic Conference honor roll. She was also named to the honor roll Dec. 16th. FUQUA-BEY HITS GAME-WINNING FREETHROWS VS RUTGERS Asia Fuqua-Bey was 0-for-2 from the free-throw line against Rutgers when she was sent to the line in overtime with a pair of free-throws in the double bonus. Her first make tied the game at 73 and her second gave Memphis the one point advantage that held up as the clock wound down. The two makes as the game wound down got Fuqua-Bey to 10 points, giving her double-digit points for the first time in six games for the Tigers. She finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. HEARN EYING CAREER RECORD BOOK Ariel Hearn is seven three-point field goals shy of breaking in to the single season top 10 in three-point field goals made with 45 made triples this season. She needs 52 to catch Jessica Hall’s mark from the 2007-08 season. For her career, Hearn is 28 threes shy of 100 as a Tiger. In school history, only eight other players have knocked down 100 or more threes in a career. HOPE PUTS UP DOUBLE DIGITS FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT NIGHT Senior post Pa’Sonna Hope had a tough shooting night from the field in the opening half of the Rutgers game, but stayed strong at the free-throw line, hitting 6-for-8 and finishing with 16 points for her fourth straight double-digit scoring night of the season. Hope has scored double-digits in all four conference games this season and it is the first time in her Tiger career that she has scored double digit points in four straight games. The Cleveland native now has nine double-digit scoring games this season after hitting 10 or more points just five times last year. TWO POST DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN WIN OVER RUTGERS Memphis had two players put up a double-double in the win over No. 23 Rutgers. Pa’Sonna Hope had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Fuqua-Bey finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. That was the fifth double-double of the season and the sixth of her career for Hope. It was the second of the season and the third of her career for Fuqua-Bey. WINNING CLOSE GAMES Head Coach Melissa McFerrin has been telling her young team that Memphis wins close games. Already this season, Memphis has played five overtime games (with a 3-2 record) and has played three one-point decisions (with a 2-1 mark). In Coach McFerrin’s six seasons at Memphis, the Tigers are 34-13 in games decided by five or fewer points.
