Last Time on the Course... T h e Wav e r ly B u l l d o g I n v i tat i o n a l ( M i s s i s s i p p i S t ) Sophomore Leighann Cabush posted another top 10 finish, finishing tied for sixth, and the University of Memphis women’s golf team finished in fourth place in the final round of the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational, Wednesday. Cabush birdied 18 to finish her day with a 74 (+2). She finished tied for sixth overall in the individual race with a 218 (72-72-74) for her third top 10 finish in four tournaments this fall. Teammate Michaela Fletcher finished in a tie for 14th with a 221 (72-71-78) while senior Ashley Kees added her second top 20 finish of the fall with a 224 (77-70-77), tying her for 20th overall. Emily Goldenstein matched her second round 75 with another 75 on Wednesday afternoon. Goldenstein picked up a birdie on eight and 11 in her final round and finished tied for 34th in the individual standings. Julia Gerlach capped her tournament with a day three 82 (+10). Gerlach finished the tournament at 232 (75-75-82) to finish 48th. Host Mississippi State won the team title with an 858 (285-277-296). Fellow American Athletic Conference members USF (882) and Houston (885) finished second and third with Houston finishing three strokes ahead of Memphis (296-28-304 – 888). Troy and FIU tied for fifth at 891 to round out the top five in the tournament. Mississippi State’s Ally McDonald won tournament individual medalist honors with a third straight day under par (69-67-71 – 207). USF’s Ashley Burke finished second (72-66-75 – 213) and Southern Miss’ Devon Spriddle was third (70-70-76 – 216). The Lady Tigers will wrap up their fall slate at Florida International’s Pat Bradley Invitational, Nov. 2-4th in Tampa, Florida. That will be Memphis’ final fall semester tournament before final exams and the semester break. Memphis opens its spring slate in February.
