The Sheppie Pride PRESIDENT=S MESSAGE Since the beginning of my term of office Lions seems to have been very busy. First there was the Show and what a great success it was!! Lots of hard work and fellowship as well as R110,000 raised for charity At the beginning of the month we held a braai at the Clubhouse for all Lions and all who had helped at the Lions Show in July. This was a great success and a happy evening was had by all. I attended the Ramsgate Lions Induction Dinner held at the Bistro Ramsgate where Paul A inducted the new Lions President Warren Theron.

23 August Business Meeting

13 September Director=s Meeting

27 September Business Meeting

5 - 7 October Annual Leadership Retreat for P.S.H.S.

Lion Garth & myself attended the Zone meeting in Toti this last weekend. Besides the normal business of the meeting we were presented with what could be a Zone Project or even escalate to a District or Multiple District Project. More details to follow soon. The main event for the month was Blind Bowlers held at the Uvongo Bowling Club. This project was 'driven' by Hans & Marie Wagenaar. The weekend was organised by Hans and the catering was done by our Lion ladies who organised a very tasty Saturday evening supper. It was wonderful to see people who are disabled so enjoying themselves on the bowling green, as well as afterwards and it is very heartening to feel that we, the Lions are able to contribute towards the enjoyment of the disabled. Next year will be the 21st year of 'Blind Bowler's - perhaps we should make it even more special and involve lots of fellow Lions? I would like to extend my appreciation to Hans for all the work he put into making the weekend for the disabled so successful. The next main event is the Youth Leadership held on the weekend 6/7 October. Hopefully this will involve all the Lions - more details of this during the coming month. Finally, please all try and attend our Club meetings and socials - fellowship of the Lions at all these events is so important and makes the Club go from strength to strength!

LIGHTING THE PATH WITH SUSTAINABILITY For more than eight decades, Lions worldwide have persevered along proven paths of service and illuminating countless additional paths for others to follow in order to answer pressing community and human needs. One such path we have chosen, the most visible over the years, is that of being recognized as Knights of the Blind in the Crusade Against Darkness---Helen Keller's challenge. There are others along which we have maintained a steady course in implementing the "We Serve" imperative. Our path to membership growth is now brighter because we have introduced our Year-Round Growth Program. Do not stray from this path, but understand that not a day must pass when we do not honour our commitment to be always vigilant for men and women who would serve our clubs with enthusiasm. They, too, will then light the path for still others in helping them to see the advantages of becoming Lions. We must never be discouraged by temporary setbacks, by what may appear to be less than desirable results in a given program. They should, instead, be signals to reinforce our determination to continue along that path in sustaining an activity in which we have placed our faith and energy. International President J. Frank Moore I
