1.0 THREE RELATIONSHIP 1.1 POINT/LINE/PLAN 1.2 MASS 1.3 FRAME AND INFILL



1.1 POINT/LINE/PLAN CONVERT A TWO DIMENSION POINT, LINE AND PLAN INTO A THREE DIMENSION OBJECT, AND PLACE IT ON THE GROUND


1.1 POINT/LINE/PLAN - PRECEDENT TOYO ITO - SERPENTINE GALLERY SUMMER PAVILION MULTIPLE STRAIGHT LINES ARE CROSSING AND INTERSECTING WITH EACH OTHER ON A TWO-DIMENSIONAL PLAN. THE SPACES BETWEEN THESE LINES ARE EITHER FILLED WITH SOLID PANELS OR TRANSPARENT GLASS, CREATING A SPECIAL LIGHT EFFECT AND INTERESTING PRIVATE AND OPEN SPATIAL RELATIONSHIP.


1.1 POINT/LINE/PLAN - PRECEDENT SANTIAGO CALATRAVA - WORLD TRADE CENTER TRANSPORTATION HUB OCULUS THE RIBS STRUCTURAL AT BOTH SIDE OF THE MAIN HALL SUPPORTED THE EXTREMELY HIGH ROOF WHILE FILTERINGB THE LIGHT INTO MULITIPLE STRIPS, GIVE RISE TO SPATIAL OPENNESS AND DEPTH.



1.1 POINT/LINE/PLAN - PROGRESS



1.1 POINT/LINE/PLAN - RESULT THREE QUADRANGLES CONNECTED EACH OTHER AT THE EDGES, FORMING OBLIQUE GEOMETRICAL ARCHES POINTTING VARIOUS DIRECTION. OVERLAPPED AND INTERSECTED THE ARCHES, CREATED A PAVILION THAT SPATIALLY SEGMENT THE OPEN LAWN. LIGHT WAS INTRODUCEED THROUGH THE GAP BETWEEN EACH ARCHES, FORMING GEOMETRICAL WHILE DYNAMIC TRANSITION OF LIGHT AND SHADOW.



1.2 MASS USE A SECTION TO PRESENT THE INTENSE CONTRAST BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW, AS WELL AS EXPERIMENT DIFFERENT FORMS OF GROUND SURFACE.



1.2 MASS - PRECEDENT TADAO ANDO’S EXPERIMENT WITH LIGHT THE SENSE OF HEAVINESS AND STEADINESS OF MASS WAS PRESENTED BY THE THICK CONCRETE WALLS. NATURAL LIGHT WAS INTRODUCED TO THE INTERIOR SPACE BY NARROW RECTANGULAR OPENINGS, WHICH CREATED FASCINATING GEOMETRICAL SHADOW EFFECT AND ENHANCED PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE.


1.2 MASS - RESULT ORGANIC NATRUAL LANDSCAPE WAS PLACEED INSIDE A CUBICAL SPACE. LIGHT WAS INTRODUCE THROUGH NARROW OPENING. IT PROJECTED ON FLAT OR UNEVEN SURFACES, GENERATED COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LIGHT EFFECTS. SAME AS SPATIAL EXPERIENCE, PEOPLE IS ABLE TO WALL ON EITHER TYPE OF SURFACE, OBTAINED VARIOUS FEELING.




1.3 FRAME AND INFILL PLACEED GEOMETRICAL FRAME ABOVE GROUND, SELECTIVELY FILL ITS GAP, CREATING ORGANIC SURFACE TAHT SUBJECT TO SURROUDING SITE.


1.3 FRAME AND INFILL - PRECEDENT PTW ARCHITECTS - WATER CUBE EVEN THOUGH EVERY EDGES OF THE INFILL WAS RESTRAINED BY METAL FRAME, ITS DOSE NOT BECAME A FLAT PANEL, BUT AN ORGANIC BUBBLE-LIKE MEMBRANE.


1.3 FRAME AND INFILL - PRECEDENT BASSAM EL-OKEILY & KARLA MENTEN - NARROW HOUSE A FLOWIN SURFACE WITH MULTIPLE IRREGULAR OPENING WAS SPATIALLY RESTRAIN BY THE SQUARE FRAME, CONTRASTIVELY EMPHASIZE THE SENSE OF CONTINITY OF SPACE.



1.3 FRAME AND INFILL - PROGRESS



1.3 FRAME AND INFILL - RESULT A SPHERE SURFACE AS THE INFILL WAS SUPPORTED AND SPATIALLY RESTRAINED BY GEOMETRICAL FRAME COMPOSED BY DIFFERENT SIZES OF SQUARE. THE FRAME LIFTED THE SPHERE ABOVE THE SLOPE, REPRESENTING THE IDEA OF USING FRAME TO ACCOMMDATE ARTIFICIAL OBJECT WITH NATRUAL LANDSCAPE.



1.3 FRAME AND INFILL - FURTHER DEVELOPMENT BY CHANGING THE MATERIAL OF THE SPHERE TO GLASS, I REALIZED THAT IT REFLECTED SURROURDING ENVIRONMENT, INCLUDING THE FRAME. DUE TO ITS ROUND SURFACE, IT ALTERED STRAIGHT LINE INTO CURVE IN ITS REFLECTION, WHICH FORMED AN INTERESTING CONTRAST THAT, SPATIALLY THE FRAME RESTRAINED THE SPHERE, WHILE VISUALLY, THE SPHERE ALTERED THE FRAME.

2.1 SITE ANALYSIS - HERRING ISLAND ANALYSISING THE SITE, HERRING ISLAND IS SURROUNDED BY HIGH DENSITY RESIDENTIAL AREA, AND THE ONE ACCESS TO THE ISLAND IS BY BOAT, WHICH MIGHT CAUSE THE THE BANK AREA TO BE LACK OF PRIVACY. CONSIDERING THE AFOREMENTIONED FACTOR AND THE FACILITY ON THE ISLAND, I DESIDED TO PLACE MY DESIGN AT THE WEST SIDE OF THE ISLAND, LOCATED ON A SLOPE, FACING A BASIN.


2.2 CONCEPTACLE THE PRIMARY CONCEPT OF MY DESIGN IS TO CONTRAST CURVED AND ORGANIC STRUCTURE WITH GEOMETRICAL ELEMENT, IN WHICH, I DESIDED TO CREATE A FLOWING SURFACE THAT IS RISED AND SUPPORTED BY FEW RECTANGULAR PANELS.




2.3 SKETCHES DURING THE SKETCHING, I GENERATED THE IDEA OF COMBINING A ARTIFICAL ORGANIC SURFACE WITH THE ACTURAL LANDSCAPE, INORDER TO CREATE A CONTINUATION OF GROUND.


2.4 DEVELOPMENT - FORM


2.4 DEVELOPMENT - CONCEPT OF SECRET IN MY OPINION, SECRERT NOT ONLY MEAN A HIDDEN BUILDING OR SPACE, BUT ALSO THE KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO HERRING ISLAND, SUCH AS ITS VEGETATION AND HISTORY, WHICH MOST OF THE PEOPLE DON’T GET TO KNOW DURING THEIR VISIT. I PLAN TO PRESENTE THESE INFORMATIONS THROUGH CHARTS, VIDEOS OR RECORDINGS IN THE DARK AND ENCLOSED GROUNDFLEVEL, THEREFORE, WHEN VISITORS WALK DWON TO THE LOWGROUND LEVEL, AN OPEN AND TRANSPARENT ROOM PROVIDING CLOSE ENGAGEMENT WITH NATURE, THEY WILL SEE THE ISLAND IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

2.6 EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION - EXTERIOR THIS IMAGE PRESENT THE NORTHEAST PRESPECTIVE OF THE BUILDING, WHERE THE RAIL THAT LEAD TO MAIN ENTRANCE AND THE CONNECTION OF ROOF AND NATURAL LANDSCAPE. CAN BE SEEN. AS SHOWN, THE ROOF IS COVER WITH GRASS, TREATED AS THE CONTINUATION OF THE NATURE, AND THE TWO-STORIES STRUCTURE IS HIDDEN UNDER IT.



2.6 EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION - EXTERIOR SHOWN IN THIS NORTHWEST PRESPECTIVE, THE BUILDING FLOW ALONG THE SLOPE, IN WHICH, THE PRIMARY STRUCTURE IS LIFTED BY THE RECTANGULAR PANELS, SITTING ABOVE GROUND, PRESENTING THE IDEA OF USING VARIOUS ALTITUDE GRADIENT OF NATURAL LANDSCAPE TO CREATE COMPLEX INTERIOR SPATIAL EXPERIENCE.



3.0 RELFECTION THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE SUBJECT, I FOCUS ON CREATING STRONG SPATIAL EXPERIENCE BY COMPOSING CRUVE AND ORGANIC STRUCTURE WITH GEOMETRICAL ELEMENTS. IN THE FIRST PROJECT- POIN, LINE AND PLAN, I CONVERT THE TWO-DIMENSIONAL INTERSECTION OF LINES AND PLAN INTO A THREE-DIMENSION PAVILION, EXPERIMENTED SPACE FORMING. IN TERM OF THE SECOND PROJECT - MASS, THE CONTRAST BETWEEN ORGANIC AND FLAT SURFACES, AS WELL AS THE DIFFERENT LIGHT EFFECT THEY CREATED, WAS EXPLORED.THE THIRD PROJECT - FRAME AND INFILL, I STUDIED HOW TO ACCOMDATED ARTIFICIAL OBJECT WITH NATURAL LANDSCAPE BY USING GEOMETRICAL FRAME. FOR THE FINAL PROJECT - A PLACE FOR KEEPING SECRET, I SELECTED AND COMBINED SEVERAL FEATURES FROM THE PRIVIOUS DESIGNS, CREATED A TWO-STORIES BUILDING THAT CLOSLY CONNECTED WITH NATURAL LANDSCAPE WHILE STRUCTURAL SIT ABOVE IT, FURTHER EXPLORE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BUILDING AND EARTH.
