Project 1:

Hotel Building

Built up area:

8 160 m2 Mid-rise building of 1 basement & 9 storeys

Program:

3 restaurants, Gym & Spa, Ballroom, Business centre, commercial shops 6 residential storeys of 84 hotel rooms & 18 suites

 

“Mixed-use”

The building was designed as a parametric form which was challenging for me in the working drawings and construction documentation I studied the building construction as two layers, the main body and the outer shell

For the outer shell, I had assistance from a team member to create it on sketch-up software so as I can study the shell in form of panels and vertices

Investigation and integration of appropriate material selection for the project design By the engagement of a façade specialist that helped in investigating a material for the outer shell execution fulfilling the design concept and project budget, and providing the installation drawings to facilitate relevant client and stakeholder approvals

Shopping Centre

Mid-rise building of 1 basement & 6 storeys Program:

6 storeys of commercial use and cafes It was a private owner shopping centre, offering commercial spaces for rental in the lower two storeys, in addition to a space for a hyper market and spaces for cafes and a bank.

4.4.4 Inclusion of expertise of relevant specialists and consultants in developing the project design We engaged a lighting consultant to assess the selection of the interior lighting fixtures and its distribution in the ceiling according to the interior design, for the nature of the project being a shopping centre so the lighting is a main factor affecting the display quality.

4.4.1

Evaluation of design options in relation to project requirements It was important to resolve the plan with maximum number of rented shops with relevant areas, providing free space for the portable booths, considering comfort and clear circulation for the shops avoiding traffic spots with the cafes, and as well achieve a remarkable and wide entrance.

Shopping centre

Strip mall (one story shopping centre) Program:

23 Shops & 1 Hyper market, with a large parking lots in front

Successfully prepared preliminary design drawings and produced plans from the schematic design 3D shots, proceeded to the design development phase, up to the construction package production Succeeded in following up with the client`s modifications remotely

The main function of the proposal which was shopping centre that required the following:   

The continuity for the public circulation with direct accessibility to the shops Separation of the service road and to have direct access with the serviced areas Providing maximum number of rented shops with the optimum areas

In reference to the regulatory requirements, the toilets location was solved in two spots to apply the maximum walking distance and the parking capacity was solved according to the required percentage

2 Retail spaces in the ground floor & 3 office storeys

Design response incorporates assessment of the physical location and relevant wider regional, contextual and environmental issues I studied that project according to the LEED * standards, prepared the relevant credits and applied them to the building successfully, prepared the project to be LEED * certified. * LEED is for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and it is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design.
