Penn State Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering (MNE) currently serves nearly 1,000 undergraduate students and more than 330 graduate students. The department's 54 faculty members are actively involved in providing a hands-on education at the undergraduate and graduate levels while also conducting life-changing research. In addition to a strong emphasis on teaching, faculty and students engage in strong research programs through support from industry and federal agencies. Penn State is the largest nuclear engineering program in the U.S. It is one of few universities in the U.S. with a working research reactor. U.S. News and World Report rank Penn State's ME undergraduate program 16th and the ME graduate program 17th among the 132 mechanical engineering programs in the U.S. It ranks the NucE graduate program 5th among the 18 nuclear engineering programs in the U.S.
