The Tamashii Nations 2016 event revealed a number of exciting new product for 2017 and beyond, and the following Star Wars SH Figuart figures have us more than a little excited. SH Figuarts have already given us some brilliant figures, but the Rey shown below looks to be one of the best yet. Based on her outfit from the very last scene of The Force Awakens, Rey comes with Luke's lightsaber as well as her staff. It isn't clear if BB8, who is also pictured, will be included in the pack. But this is his debut in the range also. Back at Star Wars Celebration we showed you images from the Tamashii Nations booth of some concept art for future Star Wars Movie Realization figures. It seems the first of these is now coming to market with the Samurai inspired Darth Maul being on display at the Tamashii Nations Event this week in Japan. No more details are known as yet, and the images we have seen so far are not overly clear we look forward to more official news and images for this release.
Back at NYCC 2016, SH Figuarts had a mock up in their display for a 1/12 Deadshot Action Figure as part of their Suicide Squad range. At this week's Tamashii Nations 2016 event in Japan, we got our first look at this figure. As yet no more details are known.
Also on his way from The Force Awakens is Finn in his Stormtrooper Armour. And as Figuarts love affair with the prequels continues we go to Attack of the Clones, from which we are getting an Anakin Skywalker A final image of the larger booth of SH Figuarts figures also gives us some hints about other figures we may see. Although grainy the image seems to show either an Episode 7 Han Solo or possibly a Bespin (Empire Strikes Back) version of the Han sculpt.
We have had Movie Realization figures from Tamashii Nations of Spider-Man and Iron-Man. And now it seems another Marvel Alumni is joining this concept range of Feudal Japan inspired figures - Captain America. Cap is Samurai inspired, with a winged helmet and Samurai type armour. His trademark shield is included, but has been redesigned as segmented wooden shield. No more details are known at this time,
Medicom have announced they too will move to Rogue One product for 2017, and have confirmed a MAFEX Death Trooper will be released in August next year (yes that is nearly 12 months away). SH Figuarts are returning to the very early days of the Marvel Universe with this Mark 6 armour, as seen in Iron Man 2 and then into Avengers Assemble. The figure will be a Tamashii Webstore exclusive, so not the easiest to obtain outside of Japan. The cost is down to be 6480 yen (£51 / $62) and the due date is April 2017. Also coming in April is the Hall of Armour compartment which will include LED lighting. This will retail at 4860 yen, a very reasonable £38 / $47 US customers, via the Figuarts distributor Bluefin, can look forward to a combined pack of the Mark 6 and the Hall of Armour as a special US release in 2016.
Hobby-Maniax has shared a number of images direct from the SH Figuarts display at the Tamashii Nations 2016 event. Within the display are a number of new reveals. The WWE line looks to be expanding past the three figures already confirmed and The Undertaker and Vince McMahon will be joining HHH, Stone Cold and the Rock in this 1/12 collector's line. For Streetfighter we already knew about Ryu and Chun Li and now Rashid will be added as a 3rd Street Fighter release. There is then a first look at the Pokemon range of figures with Ash, Pikachu and Team Rocket.
Disney store have finally confirmed it's next two Star Wars Elite figures will be Han Solo from Episode 7 and the First Order Storm Trooper Officer from the same film. The two new figures will hit "selected" stores as of 1st of November, although at this point this has only been confirmed in the US and Canada although we suspect that the UK will get these at some point. US price is $26.95 and if these hit UK they will be £19.95. What we don't know is how "selected" these will be? Will they be a full release, or in the same type of numbers as we saw the Prequel and Original Trilogy Elites last year?
The Death Trooper will be packed with two head options, one standard and one with added gear above the left eye to make the Specialist trooper. Also included will be the Specialist pauldron and ammunition pouches. He will come with three weapons. Price wise the initial listing is for an RRP of 5800 Yen - that's £46 or $56 (plus a bit more on top for import and p&p).
Another image has been shared by NECA showing the early prototype for the 7" scale Aliens Auto-Gun, as seen in Aliens Special Edition. This upcoming "Colonial Marine Arsenal" pack looks like it will contain two Auto-Guns as well as various other weaponry and some weapon effects. Assuming it follows suit with previous accessory packs then the RRP on this should be around the $25 / £25 mark, and considering this seems to be early planning stage it is doubtful we will see anything on shelves until Summer 2017.
We are just a few weeks away from the latest Ash vs the Evil Dead release from NECA. The bloody Ash and Demon Spawn pack is already in stock in very limited quantities in the NECA US online store, and will be hitting retail very soon. This week we got a good look at the pack including the packaging reveal. “Just in time for Season 2 of the hit Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead, we present a special edition action figure 3pack dedicated to the dramatic Season 1 finale. The set includes Bloody Ash and two demon spawn figures that are exclusive to this set. The series follows Ash: stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who spent 30 years avoiding responsibility, and the terrors of the Evil Dead. In final episode of season 1, Ash is beset by demonic creatures at the cabin in the woods, and this set lets you recreate that dramatic battle. The thoroughly bloodied Ash stands nearly 7” tall and comes with chainsaw and shotgun that fits in a back holster. Each demon spawn has a unique head sculpt and is fully poseable, standing 5.5” tall. Window box packaging.”
This weeks Facehugger Friday teaser from NECA shed a little more light on the Queen Facehugger that will be coming in Series 10 of the Alien series. The Queen Facehugger, which was from a deleted scene in Alien 3, will be packed two per blister. Reading between the lines it seems one will be an homage to the Kenner figure from the 1990's while the smaller version could arguably be based on the deleted scene appearance from the movie.
Underground Toys US have been revealing a number of new 5" scale Doctor Who figures over the past couple of weeks. In the last issue we saw their 10th Doctor in Tuxedo and they have also announced a re-release of the 9th/10th Doctor era TARDIS Playset. It has now been announced we are getting a new 12th Doctor sculpt and from this two different paint options. Both releases are based on Series 9 outfits. The first release is the Doctor with blue hoodie as well as patterned T-Shirt and chequered trousers. The second release is a green hoodie with black T-shirt with white spots and plain black trousers. Both figure are packed with the Doctor’s new Sonic Screwdriver. The announcement are being listed as a US market figure, with no details if this will be released outside of the states - although we would suspect they will be via Character Options directly in the UK. The last announcement, for the green hoodie Doctor 12, was tinged with frustration as Underground also confirmed the 5th figure/release in this planned batch has been cancelled before it was even revealed?
Back in June 2016 Playmobil confirmed that for the first time in their history they are moving into Film licences with their Playmobil figures and playsets, the first of these being Ghostbusters. This deal is not the same as the one with Funko who are using the Playmobil figure image but blown up to a larger 6" scale - this one is actual Playmobil 3" figures and playsets from your favourite movies. The first promotional images of the Ghostbuster line have now been released, and they look brilliant. They are also all based it seems on the 1984 original movie, with no inclusion as yet for Ghostbuster 2 or the 2016 Reboot. Taking the images it seems we can expect the following sets, and these will hit stores in 2017 1. Ecto-1 2. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man 3. Firehouse 4. Slimer and Food Cart 5. Ghost Pack 6. Terror Dog Pack
Promotional images have been released for Diamond Select Ghostbusters, Series 5 This final series, in terms of building the Ghostbusters 1984 rooftop scene, will be made up of the Librarian Ghost, Taxi Driver Ghost and the Terror Dog. Got to love that stack of books with the Librarian. The Terror Dog is a double whammy figure as it is packed with alternative horn options so it can represent Zuul or Vinz Clortho. This will potentially off balance the wave layout with the Terror Dog becoming a chase figure as collectors are likely to want two of this figure vs one only (if at all) of the Taxi Driver and Library ghosts You can pre-order Series 5 of the Ghostbusters Select Figures from our affiliate partner, Forbidden Planet
