A record number of visitors experienced the largest and most successful edition of the region’s international trade fair for the beauty and wellness industry at Beautyworld Middle East 2024. Organisers Messe Frankfurt Middle East announced that this year's event, held from 28 to 30 October at Dubai World Trade Centre, attracted 71,439 visitors, marking the highest attendance and participation figures in its history. Spread across 17 halls, Beautyworld Middle East has once again cemented its position as the region’s most globally significant industry trade show providing the ultimate opportunity for local and international suppliers, brands, businesses, and beauty professionals to net-
work. This year’s visitor numbers increased by over 10% compared to last year, welcoming over 70,000 people across the three-day event. The growth in international participation from both visitors and exhibitors highlights the GCC region as one of the most lucrative beauty and wellness markets in the world.
In fact, the BeautyMatter Middle East Market Report 2024 valued the beauty and personal care market in the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region at over $46 billion and estimates it will reach around $60 billion by 2025.
“This year’s Beautyworld Middle East was the biggest and best we have ever seen, attracting 71,439 visitors. We are delighted that so many international exhibitors and attendees were able to experience three amazing days of insights, networking, and education. It was the perfect showcase for our industry which is growing all the time here in the Middle East,” says Ravi Ramchandani, Show Manager, Beautyworld Middle East 2024. International participation surged across all show sectors, with notable increases from countries eager to explore products from the Middle East, as well as international novelties. China led the way with a 79% rise in participation compared to 2023, followed by the US (65%) and UK with a 62% increase. Additionally, there was a notable 52% increase in visitors from all over Europe, reflecting the strong appeal of the regional market for global players.
Ramchandani adds, “Attracting attendees from 164 countries this year, the show was a reflection of a significant interest in brands wanting to grow their global audience. The fragrance world particularly is becoming very invested in this market and we are seeing lots of big brand names creating products specifically tailored to Middle Eastern tastes and traditions.”
Exhibitor responses

Face Factory CEO Oh Young-Woo, who were exhibiting in the Beauty Tech section of the show for the fourth year, says, “Being back in Dubai, an international and diverse city, provides our brands with an excellent opportunity to expand their reach and connect with buyers and distributors. Gulf Print & Pack 2025 to Mirror Saudi Packaging Boom
The Saudi paper and cardboard packaging market, fuelled by the rising demand for sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions, is currently estimated around $2.22 billion
Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh is all geared up for the inaugural edition of Gulf Print & Pack, the MENA region’s leading exhibition for the commercial and package printing industries. The event will be held at the strategically located Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center (RFECC) from 14-16 January, 2025.
More than Just a Trade Show
With organizers Labelexpo Global Series announcing the launch of Gulf Print & Pack 2025 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in January next year, the new show is expected to build on the success of the earlier and well established Dubai edition. The Riyadh event will primarily focus on the latest technologies in commercial and package printing.
Barry Killengrey, Event Director Gulf Print & Pack, says, “We are excited to extend the Gulf Print & Pack series to Riyadh, where a vibrant consumer market is driving adoption of new
digital technologies and packaging formats across the FMCG market. We see a huge potential for growth for all sectors of the print and packaging business supporting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s development goals.”
With this, the brand Gulf Print & Pack will cement its position as an annual event for the Middle East region, alternating between Riyadh to service the burgeoning Saudi Arabian market and Dubai for the GCC market.
The announcement of the event in Riyadh coincides with an investment boom across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in line with the country’s Vision 2030 initiative that emphasizes on sustainable growth across a wide range of industry sectors. This is expected to create major business opportunities for commercial printers and packaging converters as well as drive demand for automated packaging systems and sustainable packaging materials.
Upswing in Saudi Packaging Market due to E-commerce Boom
The Saudi paper and cardboard packaging market, fuelled by the rising demand for sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions, is currently estimated around $2.22 billion and is expected to reach $2.84 billion, at a 4.24% CAGR during the 2024-2029 forecast period. The upswing is attributed to the boom in e-commerce platforms and increased consumer awareness regarding sustainable packaging.
In comparison, the Saudi plastics packaging market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.6% and reach $20.52 billion by 2030.
The Saudi food market is also experiencing a major transformation, with its volume expected to jump from $14.16 billion to a robust $30.47 billion by 2029.
Saudi Arabia’s Digital Printing Market Growth Potential
As the MENA region’s graphic arts and packaging industries gear up for the first Gulf Print & Pack exhibition in Saudi Arabia next year, a new report demonstrates the astonishing growth potential of the Saudi digital printing market.
Compiled by market research firm Astute Analytica, the report predicts that the Saudi digital print sector will generate revenues of $766.58 million by 2032, up from $351.33 million in 2023, at a CAGR of 9.24% during the forecast period 2024-2032.
This surge in demand for digital printing solutions in Saudi Arabia is largely driven by the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to diversify the economy away from oil with a commitment to sustainability at its core.

Algeria’s Packaging Industry
The global packaging industry makes an average sales figure exceeding 500 billion euros in which 60% is related to the agri-food sector. However, the disparities remain very strong between the countries, since 75% of the packaging production is being consumed by only 20% of the global population.
Packaging has evolved over time from its unique function of just protecting the product and informant to its function of a silent salesman. It became an essential tool for companies to achieve its goals and constantly build relations with consumers.
Packaging companies in Algeria are getting more and more aware of the importance of packaging vis-à-vis consumer preferences. With cutthroat competition from foreign food products, food packaging companies in Algeria are paying more attention to the visual appeal of packaging their products.
In Algeria, around 20% to 30% of SMEs are specialized in the paper and packaging sector.

Intertex Tunisia 2024 Highlights Local Textile Industry
The sixth edition of the international textile fair Intertex Tunisia opened its doors to a large audience waiting to explore the world of textiles and discover the latest trends.
The three-day fair, held at Foire Internationale de Sousse from 17-19 October, 2024, saw some of the world’s leading players in the ever-evolving textile industry come together under a single roof. Organized by US-based B Group and supported by the Tunisian Apparel and Textile Federation (FTTH), Intertex Tunisia also highlighted the advances made in the local textile industry.
A diverse range of exhibitors from ready-to-wear; fabrics; fibre and yarn; wool, silk, lace, and embroidery; home textile; buttons and zippers; digital printing; and textile machinery displayed their latest products and services to a targeted audience of industry professionals, buyers, and decision makers. The event shed light on the chal-
lenges and future prospects of the textile industry in Tunisia, with emphasis on energy, ecological, digital, and technological transition to meet the challenges of the sector. “Besides promoting partnerships and showcasing Tunisian products, Intertex Tunisia looked into the investment potential in technical textiles and premium products,” says FTTH President Haithem Bouagila.
“Tunisia was chosen for its global reputation in textiles and its strong trade relations with Europe, particularly with France, Italy, and Spain. Despite the economic challenges, Tunisia remains an attractive destination for foreign investment in the textile sector, attracting many major international brands. This exhibition represented an opportunity for Tunisia to position itself as a regional textile hub in the Mediterranean,” says B Group Managing Director Serhan Pul.
Tunisia’s textile exports grew by 16.78% in the first quarter of 2023,
reaching 788.3 million euros, with the EU being the primary destination for ready-to-wear clothing, accounting for 81% of the total exports.

News HP Hosts Wrap & Deco Event in Dubai
The HP programme provided an opportunity to discover proven strategies for unmatched business growth in the large format print industry
Exclusive event for few select customers as part of business expansion and profit boosting using HP Latex
Technology giant HP hosted a Wrap & Deco event at the premium Voco Hotel Dubai, on 10 October, 2024, exclusively for a few select customers as part of business expansion and profit boosting using the versatile HP Latex printer series.
The event focused on the latest trends in print application for interior décor and vehicle wrapping. 50 business attendees, including print service providers, vehicle wrappers, and the media manufacturer 3M media vendors participated in the day-long session with their vinyl vehicle wraps.
The occasion featured sessions on new print applications in décor and wrapping using the innovative HP Latex technology, providing ample scope to network with industry leaders, experts, and customers. Participants could witness the power of innovative technology and stunning décor and wrapping applications, without compromising sustainability. The master class sessions also provided ample scope to learn cutting-edge application techniques in vehicle wrapping and interior décor.
The HP programme also provided an opportunity to discover proven strategies for unmatched business growth in the large format print industry.
Abdallah Aoudé, says, “This is an
opportunity to demonstrate the cutting edge products and show how they fit into the evolving market of vehicle wrapping and interior décor, and also to connect with different stakeholders.”
Walid Feghali, Sales Director - MEA, 3M Transportation and Electronics Business Group, began the day’s proceedings with his talk on 3M: “When I started off in 1995 I went to companies like PepsiCo and Coca-Cola and other big brands telling them not to paint their vehicles like done like in Formula One, but to digitally print and stick it on the van. This is how we started digital printing in the Middle East in 1995.
Feghali’s talk was followed by The Wrap Institute (TWI) President Justin Pate making his remote presentation. “The Wrap Institute is more than just wrapping. It’s about design. We are passionate about teaching people how to wrap in a great way. But we are also about design and production tips and how to streamline your business from top to bottom.”
Pate spoke about how The Wrap Institute is neutral, working with all brands like 3M, HP, and others to “put out efficient information which didn’t have a hidden agenda.” TWI also works with organisations like FESPA and ISA and do shows all across the world, and makes product and promo videos for leading companies. He also
spoke about how restaurants are great examples for wrap shops. “Interestingly, the similarities between restaurants that are great and wrap shops that are great are actually very close.” Just as the “feel“ factor plays an important role in selecting our favourite restaurant, the same applies to wrap shops. “You want your customers to come to your wrap shop because they love it, not because it is the cheapest.” The wrap industry is new, starting in the 1990s when the large format printers arrived on the scene. For wrap shops, the production area is the most crucial where the quality of equipment is of great importance. Trimming, which is time consuming, is another area TWI focuses on. “Lot
TWI Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Marcos Schott ran a live demo on vehicle wrapping. Schott is an amazing sales person, great strategist, certified installer, and black-belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
“Everything has evolved, be they techniques, materials, or equipment, and it will evolve more in the future. The Wrap Institute kept evolving with the materials.”
A lot of times the installer is the key element in the wrapping process says Schott. “The first step is to test the car and the material for wrapping. Surface cleanliness and temperature are critical in car wrapping.” Schott’s session vividly demonstrated the dos and don’ts of the car wrapping process.

of your profits is sneakily wasted on bad production.”
HP printers play a big role in speeding up production says Pate. “HP is a partner of The Wrap Institute. HP fits TWI’s core model and our core model is focused on quality, durability, and efficiency, and finding that perfect sweet spot, and HP printers hit that. There’s no outgassing, so you don’t have to wait for the material to outgas 24 to 48 hours, so we go straight to laminating. The inks have got really good, very flexible, especially for those bumpers and mirrors. The inks are water-based, which is good for the environment. The warranties are much better. Excellent pairing with lamination now is awesome. HP printers are amazing!”

Around seven years back Law decided to reproduce his works as wallpapers, opening up a new market. Currently Law has three companies that do the printing for him. “Bland and boring walls in offices and homes can be made into interesting ones with colourful wallpapers,” he says. Besides wallpapers, his art works are printed on fabric, transforming ladies scarfs and cushions, and also on leather bags. “Once you have great art, what you can do with it is endless. The event focused on the latest trends in print application for interior décor and vehicle wrapping.
Law spoke about meaningful abstract decoration: “Everybody likes beautiful things. Kids are always artists, and I have always remained creative growing up. Every industry that I have been in, I had a creative aspect to it, whether it was comic books or the car industry. I started illustrating comic books at the age of 35, but realised that financially there was not much future in it for me. I used to paint in my spare time. But I really didn’t like painting. I wanted to be a designer. I studied graphic designing which also had painting and sculpture against which I used to rebel, even going to the extent of not finishing my projects. But 15 years back I finished my first oil painting. I make use a variety of tools and incorporate different
to grey scale, the scope is simply endless. When it comes to the reproduction side of things, HP is a top-notch brand reproducing art at the same level and of the same quality as in the original.”
“For those looking to print vibrant, eye-catching vehicle wraps, graphics, and decals that are easy to install and can be applied to any surface, HP Latex print and cut solutions delivers the quality, speed, and accuracy to get the job done. The same applies to décor printing such as flooring, window blinds, canvases, wall coverings, textiles for home décor, and synthetic leather,” wraps up Ernest Azzam, HP’s Large Format Printing Regional Manager - Middle East & Africa.
Krakow to Host World News Media Congress 2025
The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) will hold its 76th World News Media Congress in the culturally-rich city of Krakow, Poland, from 4-6 May, 2025. The event will
be organised in partnership with Polish media company Agora SA, the publisher of Polish daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.
This year’s central theme ‘Mastering Media’s New Playbook’ is a call to action for three days of high-level exchange, workshops, and learning.
The targeted conferences will equip media leaders, editors, and digital media specialists with the latest strategies and case studies to navigate 2025 and beyond, making this Congress a must-attend event.
“The Congress will showcase inspiring examples of organisations that have successfully integrated new technologies and are innovating by using data, AI tools, and collaborative action to better support their operations and strengthen their journalism, says WAN-IFRA CEO Vincent Peyrègne. “It will also focus on the new tactics needed to underpin trusted journalism in a world where truth is increasingly losing its currency.”
Bartosz Hojka, Group CEO at Agora SA and a member of the Supervisory Board of WAN-IFRA, comments: “It is an honour for us to co-organise the 2025 Congress. I am delighted that we will be inviting media leaders, journalists, and editors from all over the world to Poland. It is a unique opportunity for them to be in a country which, on the one hand, borders Ukraine, battling for the security
of the whole continent, and on the other hand, last year stood up to a populist government, also thanks to dynamically operating independent media. I am convinced that our experience will be extremely interesting for the global news industry.”
Building on the success of the Copenhagen Congress earlier this year, which attracted over 1,100 delegates from 78 countries, WAN-IFRA is confident that the 76th World News Media Congress in Krakow will be an equally enriching experience.
“Each year, we meticulously plan the Congress’s programme and location to ensure it is purposeful and meaningful. In 2025, we are proud to partner with Agora for the 76th World News Media Congress in Krakow. The city’s rich history and Poland’s pivotal role in the upcoming EU presidency make this Congress a significant event. We have a duty to draw international attention to the situation in this part of the world, and I am eager to work with the Agora Group to deliver a memorable experience for our delegates in Krakow,” emphasises Peyrègne.

Saudi Xerox's Essential Tips for SMBs
From competing to attract and retain talent to leveraging cost and efficiency benefits, accommodating a hybrid workforce is a priority for today’s employers
As Saudi businesses pursue hybrid work models, Saudi Xerox is dedicated to empowering small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to achieve secure, productive, and flexible work environments. Through innovative solutions that support digital transformation in the Kingdom, Saudi Xerox is committed to advancing hybrid work capabilities aligned with Vision 2030.
From competing to attract and retain talent to leveraging cost and efficiency benefits, accommodating a hybrid workforce is a priority for today’s employers. However, smallto-midsized business (SMBs) face specific challenges in this new workplace flexibility, especially without the expansive resources of larger corporate counterparts.
You need to find a way, for example, to help employees working at home achieve the same productivity as they do in the office - but without the benefit of the same in-office tools, access, and capabilities. Mobile workers need secure access to data and documents so they can work efficiently from anywhere. And your company needs to seamlessly connect your remote workers with those working in the office with collaboration and document-sharing capabilities. The good news is there is an everevolving array of tools, technologies and strategies that can help your small-to-midsize business master the hybrid work environment. Solutions can range from a reliable home

Xerox has an expanded portfolio of software and hardware solutions, Pete notes, that offer securityenhancing capabilities. These include document encryption features, password protection tools, and software that prevents the spread of confidential information, and an application that allows IT to track what team members are printing – ideal for tracking print volumes in home offices.

A look at top challenges
Pete Munday, Global Marketing Manager for Xerox® Workflow Central, singles out two primary challenges that SMBs face:
“The top challenge is security. Smaller companies may require employees use their own laptops due to lack of resources. They don’t necessarily know the details of the home network or security practices. Employees, for instance, often leave their routers on default passwords or rely on overly simple passwords. Workers may not use VPN.”
On another remote front, workers utilizing mobile devices to work from anywhere, may use a variety of webbased solutions to access and process data and documents without proper security protections or company oversight.
The best ways to prevent these security risks depend on the needs of your particular company. Pete advises a close look at how and where team members are working and start
advises that your company begin by analyzing the needs of employees at home, on the road and in the office and select solutions that will address the needs of all three scenarios. This will help deter employees to seek out their own internet solutions, which could make it difficult for companies to manage security tools, devices and flow of information. For guidance, he suggests you talk to your preferred Xerox partner for more help on how to manage a hybrid work environment.

Overt security features provide immediate, visible confirmation of a product’s authenticity, often allowing verification within seconds
Advanced Inks and Coatings for Product Security Articles
To safeguard products from counterfeiting, tampering, and to authenticate them, a wide array of advanced security inks and coatings can be employed. These solutions serve as critical tools in protecting brands across various industries, offering both visible and concealed methods of validation. From simple, overt systems to highly specialized covert mechanisms, these technologies play an essential role in securing products on shelves, in warehouses, and even in forensic laboratories.
Overt or Primary Validation
Overt security features provide immediate, visible confirmation of a product’s authenticity, often allowing verification within seconds. These types of systems are particularly useful for frontline inspections by consumers, retailers, or customs officials. Some common examples include:
• Matte or Gloss Varnishes: One of the simplest forms of overt protection is using matte or gloss varnish coatings, which prevent the reproduction of products via photocopiers. Adding color-shifting pigments to these varnishes further increases the difficulty of replication.
• Optically Variable Inks (OVI): These inks change color when viewed
from different angles under light. They require print processes that can handle heavier ink weights, such as silk screen printing. Iridescent inks, a subset of OVI, offer a lower level of protection but still present a visual deterrent to counterfeiters.
• Thermochromic Inks: These inks change color permanently when exposed to certain temperature conditions, making them ideal for products that need to be stored or transported within specific temperature ranges. Tri-thermochromatic inks can change through multiple colors depending on the temperature profile, which can be tuned to provide specific visual indicators of mishandling in the supply chain. These inks are especially useful for pharmaceuticals and perishable goods, where temperature excursions can degrade product quality.
• Coin Reactive Coatings: A simple yet effective anti-counterfeit measure, these coatings are made from semi-gloss varnish that turns gray when rubbed with the edge of a coin, a reaction caused by the oxidation elements in the coating.
• Penetrating Inks: Designed to infiltrate paper substrates, these inks bleed through the paper and reveal a security message when viewed from the reverse side.
Because the ink is absorbed into the paper fibers, this method is extremely secure and difficult to counterfeit, as it cannot be simply removed or altered without destroying the substrate.
Covert Inks and Hidden Authentication Systems
Covert security inks provide a hidden layer of protection that can only be authenticated using special instruments such as ultraviolet (UV) lights, laser scanners, or even smartphones. These systems are often used alongside overt features for multi-layered security. Some common covert inks include:
• UV Responsive Inks: Also referred to as “black light” inks, these inks become visible when exposed to ultraviolet light. They can be tuned to specific UV wavelengths for added security, ensuring that only authorized personnel with the correct light source can verify the feature.
• Phosphorescent Inks: These luminescent inks continue to glow even after the UV light source has been removed. The duration of the glow can be precisely measured, offering an additional layer of authentication that is difficult to replicate.
• Metameric Inks: These inks
change color when viewed under different types of light sources, such as daylight or fluorescent lighting. This allows a different image or security feature to be revealed depending on the lighting conditions.
• Photochromic Inks: These inks change color when exposed to natural or artificial light. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the color to fade over time, making them more suitable for temporary authentication in controlled environments.
• Conductive Inks: Allow packaging or labels to interface directly with smartphones. When the label is touched to the phone screen, it connects the user to a secure website for online authentication. This digital layer of security adds an interactive and verifiable experience for consumers, enabling real-time validation of the product’s authenticity.
• Machine-readable Inks: This category of inks includes materials detectable by specialized scanners that read specific chemical signatures. Typically formulated with rare earth elements, these inks emit a unique signal under near-infrared light, which can be read by handheld devices or industrial-scale conveyor belt systems for bulk product verification. These inks are ideal for high-volume industries where rapid, automated authentication is required.
Tamper Evident and Forensic Inks
In addition to standard covert and overt systems, more advanced inks can also help prevent tampering and provide forensic-level authentication, further bolstering a product’s defense against counterfeiting or alterations:
• Tamper Evident Inks: These inks are designed to protect against attempts to alter or erase critical information, such as expiration dates or serial numbers. A layer of erasable ink is printed beneath the main code, often combined with chemically sensitive ink that changes color if attacked
by bleach or other corrosive chemicals, making any tampering attempts immediately visible.
• Forensic Inks: Offering the highest level of security, forensic inks contain microscopic particles that require advanced laboratory equipment to detect and authenticate. These particles may include synthetic DNA, microtaggants, or other unique identifiers that are nearly impossible to duplicate. Organic markers such as synthetic DNA can be applied through inkjet printing, while inorganic markers, like doped crystals, are best used in more viscous inks or varnishes. These features are used in high-security applications, such as currency protection, passports, or high-value branded goods, where counterfeiting risks are severe.
Practical Applications
Security inks and coatings are used in a variety of industries to protect against counterfeiting, tampering, and unauthorized alterations. From pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to luxury goods and currency, the implementation of these technologies
is crucial in maintaining brand integrity and consumer trust. Whether applied overtly for easy verification or covertly for expert validation, these advanced security features ensure that products remain authentic throughout the supply chain, from production to the end consumer.

Aligning Strategy and Business Models
The relationship between strategy and business models is critical in shaping the success of an organization. Both concepts are often used interchangeably, but they serve distinct purposes that complement each other. Here’s an in-depth look at how they interact:
Understanding Strategy and Business Models
• Strategy refers to the long-term plan or direction an organization takes to achieve its goals and gain competitive advantage. It involves decisions about markets to enter, resources to allocate, and how to differentiate the company from competitors.
• Business models describe how a company creates, delivers, and captures value. It focuses on the operational aspects of the organization,
• Thus, the business model is a manifestation of the strategy, bringing it to life through specific business operations and activities.
The Role of Business Models in Strategy Execution
While strategy defines where a company wants to go, the business model lays out how the company will get there. A well-designed business model ensures that strategic objectives are not just aspirations but are feasible and actionable. For example:
• A company pursuing international expansion as part of its strategy must adapt its business model to different markets, local regulations, and customer preferences.
• A business pursuing technological innovation as part of its strategy needs a model that supports
including revenue streams, cost structures, customer segments, and the value proposition offered to customers.
How Strategy Shapes Business Models
Strategy drives the choice of a business model. The goals and competitive positioning of a company influence the design of its business model. For example:
• A low-cost strategy would lead to a business model that emphasizes operational efficiency, economies of scale, and minimal waste.
• A differentiation strategy might result in a business model that focuses on premium services, exceptional customer experiences, or innovation.
designed to deliver high-margin premium products, but the strategy is to focus on cost leadership, the company risks alienating costconscious customers.
Ensuring this alignment helps in maintaining focus, optimizing resource allocation, and achieving sustainable competitive advantage.
The Evolution of Business Models in Response to Strategic Changes
Business models are not static and often evolve as strategies change. Market dynamics, technological advancements, and shifts in consumer preferences can lead to adjustments in strategy, requiring a corresponding update to the business model. For instance:
• A company may adopt a digital transformation strategy, leading to a shift from a traditional brick-andmortar business model to an online e-commerce model.
• As customer behavior shifts towards more subscription-based services, companies might adjust their revenue models to focus on recurring income rather than onetime sales.
The ability to adapt the business model to changing strategic priorities is crucial for long-term success.
The Feedback Loop Between Business Models and Strategy
continuous R&D investments and agility in product development.
• The business model, therefore, provides the structure needed to implement the broader strategy effectively.
Alignment Between Strategy and Business Models
To succeed, organizations must ensure that their business model aligns with their strategy. Misalignment can lead to operational inefficiencies, loss of market relevance, and missed opportunities. For example:
• If a company’s strategy is to deliver cutting-edge technology but its business model relies on outdated production processes, it will struggle to achieve its strategic goals.
• Conversely, if a business model is
Business models also provide feedback that can influence future strategy. For example, the performance of the business model can reveal insights into market conditions, customer preferences, and operational challenges, which can prompt adjustments in strategy. If a particular business model element, such as a new revenue stream, proves successful, the company may shift its strategic focus to capitalize on this opportunity. Strategy defines the direction of the organization, while the business model outlines the mechanism for achieving that direction. Both are interdependent: strategy informs the design of the business model, and the business model, in turn, affects the execution and success of the strategy. To remain competitive, companies must continuously align and refine both their strategy and business model to adapt to evolving market conditions and customer needs.
Rapid Liquid Printing: Shaping Future of Industries
Futuristic technologies have left no industry untouched with radical changes, be it in workflow solutions or production. Printing and other related industries are also witnessing an unprecedented revolution, with 3D printing being one of them. However, since its inception and despite the many advances, 3D printing technology remains in the realm of rapid prototyping, rarely being used for large-scale manufacturing. Currently, the greatest challenges for advancing 3D printing technology are small build volumes, long print times, high costs, and constraints on material versatility.
Rapid Liquid Printing: An MIT Spin-out
In 2018, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) developed the rapid liquid printing (RLP) technology in the institute’s self-assembly lab to address current limitations of speed, scale, material qualities of 3D printers, and mass customisation through traditional manufacturing. The MIT spin-out is an experimental process that uses a tank of granular gel as a reusable support medium to greatly increase speed, size, and material properties in 3D printing.
All about Efficiency, Versatility & Speed
The RLP machine can freely print in any direction, rather than layer by layer on a flat surface, depositing liquid material into the granular gel to form 3D structures. The RLP deposition system can use any oneor two-part material that is photo or chemically cured, expanding the range of possible materials to include high-quality industrial grade rubbers, foams, and plastics, among others. It is platform-independent that can be implemented on any computer numerically controlled machine, robotic arm, or similar fabrication machine. Besides its ability to print on both small and large-scale objects, RLP is incredibly fast (up to 100-times faster than traditional or other 3D printing technologies), capable of printing a complex object within seconds. The technology frees designers from gravity, enabling production of even soft, stretchable, and durable products.

RLP in Fashion: Blending Tech & Creativity
The blend of this cutting-edge technology with creativity was introduced by Coperni, the Parisian ready-to-wear and accessories brand, in partnership with Disney. The most visually appealing example of this collaboration was Coperni’s swipe bag created using RLP technology that was showcased for the firstever fashion show held at Disneyland Paris. The use of platinum-cured, recyclable silicone gives the swipe bag a liquid-like consistency, and exemplifies how fashion houses are pushing the boundaries of technology and sustainability in the industry. The video posted by Coperni demonstrates the printing process. An aquarium of water-based gel holds
the recyclable silicone’s printing process without falling apart. A very sharp, thin needle with a nozzle dives into the pool of gel and begins printing, churning out the silicone coloured in blue shade, and gradually shaping out to form the brand’s iconic swipe bag.
Shaping the Future
RLP is shaping the future of industries where industry-standard products are tailored to perfection in record time. The innovative process defies gravity and revolutionises non-planar printing. The groundbreaking approach enables the creation of complex designs that were previously impossible with traditional methods. RLP is an ideal platform for researchers, designers, and manufacturers.
