W
arm greetings to friends of MARE! My name is Diana Owens, and I am the newly elected president of the M.A.R.E. Riding Center board of directors. After many years of being a supporter and admirer of the riding center, I became involved as a volunteer and then as a board member. I am thrilled to be involved with this terrific organization and the service it provides to so many. As we approached the year end and thought about all of our blessings, I continue to be amazed at the joy and commitment of our riders, who share their enthusiasm and smiles, and those who provide countless hours and energy to make this program work — espe-
cially our gifted horses who give of themselves every day. While we all realize and take pride in the miracles that happen at M.A.R.E., we, too, are aware of the ever changing descriptions in coverage of health insurance and tightening parameters in grant funding. As the saying goes, “Challenge is an opportunity for change and improvement?” Though our funding challenges are constant, we thank our local partners and sponsors, and continue to look for ways in which M.A.R.E. can serve our community and fulfill our mission “to provide therapeutic equine assisted activities for the benefit of people living with special needs and disabilities.” In 2014, we look forward to improving and adding new programs to conPlease see M.A.R.E. / PAGE 2
