Reflecting on the Journey, Anticipating the Future
SPOTLIGHT
As another wonderful year comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the journey we’ve been on with your incredible support. It is with sincere gratitude that we extend our warmest thanks to everyone who played a pivotal role in advancing our mission to create experiences beyond the classroom. It is through the power of collaboration and shared dedication that we work to make an impact on the lives of Merced County students. We are excited to share with you the milestones we’ve achieved together, but also recognize that our work is never complete. Our valued sponsors have played an integral role in our mission and we believe, through the power of collective action, that we can continue to provide meaningful opportunities for Merced County students. In the following pages, we will share updates on our programs and a glimpse into the next few years as we work to ensure another 60 years at Camp Green Meadows. Every contribution, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in our cause and brings us one step closer to reaching our next vision. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to make an even greater impact in the days, months, and years to come.

Program Updates
Camp Green Meadows is turning 60!
From naming the facility in in 1959, to the first school arriving from Hilmar in May 1964, to today where Camp Green Meadows serves more than 4,000 students each year, it has created memories for so many generations. In recent years, your commitment to Camp Green Meadows has enabled us to continue to serve students from Merced and nearby counties year after year. We have been able to replace the septic system, build and furnish a new nurse’s station and multi-purpose room, and remodel outdated cabins. With the campus aging and the need to accommodate more students each week, there are more upgrades on the horizon. While you will be invited to celebrate Camp Green Meadow’s 60th Anniversary, keep an eye out for additional fundraising campaigns to support improvements and plans for the capacity expansion. There are plans for new cabins, that includes replacing one lost to an electrical fire last year. The current girls facilities will be converted into new cabins and new shower and restroom facilities. The final stages of the expansion will include more kitchen and dining space.

2023 Arts and Outdoor Education Fundraiser Nearly 130 people attended the Merced County Education Foundation (MCEF) fundraiser to benefit arts and outdoor education, where more than $25,000 was raised in support of Camp Green Meadows Outdoor School and arts programs. The evening featured dinner, a dessert and wine auction and music video presentations from Camp Green Meadows. Guests also had the opportunity to purchase centerpiece globes created by students from Volta Elementary School in Los Banos during their time at Camp Green Meadows. Thank you to title sponsors Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union (MSEFCU), Educational Employees Credit Union (EECU), Tinetti Realty Group and The Hate Dust Project which also matched donations up to $10,000. Additional event sponsors included Central Valley Community Foundation and Dust Bowl Brewing Company.

Program Updates
Students experienced another exciting year in the arts and we cannot wait to see what’s next. The UC Merced Opera performed for more than 2,600 students including students from the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Community with a performance that featured sign language interpreters. UC Merced Arts is planning a traveling show in 2024, which is already completely booked for two weeks of shows in May while they set up the stage and perform in all corners of the county. The Merced Symphony performed the Children’s Concerts for more than 3,200 students in Merced and Los Banos. The Merced County Honor Choir returned with nearly 80 students performing along with the Merced Symphony. The Honor Choir is expecting additional schools in 2024. The MCEF Board recently opened up the application process for their new 2023-24 Arts Grants. They hope to find and support arts activities and needs for students outside of the current plan that districts provide to their sites.
Join us January 20th at 6PM for a free concert at the Merced Theatre for the Merced County Honor Choir.
STEM Education Thanks to ongoing support for STEM Activities from the PG&E Corporation Foundation and other local donors, the MCEF assists with costs to send winning projects from the Merced County STEM Fair to the California Science and Engineering Fair.
