Reaching New Heights, Together

The Merced County Education Foundation (MCEF) could not provide as many experiences outside the classroom for Merced County students without our partnerships and your generous donations. While many of our partnerships with the Merced Symphony, UC Merced Opera for Children and the Haden Dawson Foundation have continued, we've started working with more local programs to increase opportunities for scholarships and experiences. Check out our new partnership with the Merced Multicultural Arts Center and learn about the 1st Merced County Honor Choir with Arts Now Merced.

Thank you to our Sponsors for the 2nd Annual MCEF Oktoberfest Fundraiser, especially matching donors Tinetti Realty Group and Rob and Andrea Baptie from The HateDust project for their $10,000 matches Another important donation this year was from Hilmar Cheese who helped kickoff the student cabin restoration project at Camp Green Meadows that you can read more about later

We look forward to returning to UC Merced for the STEM Fair and are excited to bring Dinner with a Scientist back to our lineup thanks to support from PG&E.

No matter where your heart lies, your support to any program, of any size makes a difference and helps us continue to offer experiences outside the classroom for students. Together, we can help Merced County Students reach new heights.

Arts Program Updates

Merced Symphony and UC Merced Opera for Children

erced Symphony Association (MSA) Children's Concerts and the UC for Children returned to in person events bringing live performances ts in grades TK 5.

The MSA reached nearly 2,000 students in Merced and Los Banos at the Merced Theatre and Pacheco High School. The MSA also expanded into Dos Palos with a concert held for nearly 500 Marks Elementary 3rd 5th grade students. The goal in 2023 is to add a third Merced Concert and invite other schools to attend in Dos Palos so that soon all districts will have the opportunity to attend.

This past spring, 2,500 students attended the UC Merced Opera held at the Outdoor Amphitheater. With the addition of the virtual opera, they were able to reach an additional 6,000 students from throughout the Central Valley.

The MAC Partnership

MCEF partnered with The Merced Multicultural Arts Center (The MAC) to support the cost for foster and special education students to participate in their summer program of Moana Jr as part of our Performing Arts Experience Sponsorships

Our next partnership with The MAC will provide scholarships for students ages 6 18 to attend the Winter/Spring 2023 After School Arts Program. The program offers multiple classes in Visual and Performing Arts, such as acting, stage craft, painting and drawing. If you know a foster youth or other student interested or in need of financial assistance to attend, please contact our office or The MAC for more information.

Camp Green Meadows

Camp Green Meadows Updates

In January, the Nurses' Building at Camp Green Meadows opened to serve students providing a much needed space for an exam room, overnight rooms for students, families, the nurse and office space. It also includes a multipurpose room and facilities for students of all abilities.

The Rob and Andrea Baptie Nature Center was dedicated in May and also received new flooring and paint. The most recent updates include renovations to the final seven student cabins. The cabins were renovated with a new roof, flooring, walls, paint and bunks bringing all 9 cabins to completion. Our next renovation will include the teacher and naturalist cabins.

As part of the Haden Dawson Donations, five foster youth and other students in need of assistance were sponsored for Summer Camp with the Camp Experience Sponsorship.

Program Updates

First Merced County Honor Choir

Arts Now Merced, led by MCOE Arts Specialist Noelle Chandler, created the 1st Annual Merced County Honor Choir Concert The Honor Choir brought together choirs from five county high schools. Each of the choirs worked within their programs to learn the shared music and then met the night before the show with a guest conductor from University of the Pacific. Other local choirs also performed to round out the evening. Plans are set for the 2nd Annual Concert in April that will expand to include some Merced Symphony Association musicians and more schools. The MCEF is already a fiscal sponsor for Arts Now Merced and will continue to support the Honor Choir with some additional donations. We hope you will come out and enjoy this free concert to support these wonderful performers from around the county

The Evelyn Eagleton and Career Technical Education Transportation Scholarships support local high school and adult students in various CTE programs with scholarships to assist with fees to reach their educational goals. The College & Career Goal also includes Literacy and the Little Lending Libraries.
