Mercer University is one of America’s oldest and most distinctive institutions of higher learning, offering rigorous programs that span the undergraduate liberal arts to doctoral-level degrees. Founded by early 19th century Baptists, Mercer — while no longer formally affiliated with the Baptist denomination — remains committed to an educational environment that embraces the historic Baptist principles of intellectual and religious freedom, while affirming values that arise from a Judeo-Christian understanding of the world. With more than 8,300 students enrolled in 11 schools and colleges on campuses in Macon, Atlanta and Savannah, and at four Regional Academic Centers around the state, Mercer is consistently ranked among the nation’s leading institutions by such publications as U.S. News & World Report and the Princeton Review. Walter F. George School of Law is located one mile away on Coleman Hill overlooking downtown. Macon is a city of 90,000 residents that serves as the educational, medical, cultural and commercial hub of Central Georgia. Atlanta — Mercer’s Cecil B. Day Graduate and Professional Campus is home to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, McAfee School of Theology, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and the College of Continuing and Professional Studies, along with programs of the Stetson School of Business and Economics, Tift College of Education and the English Language Institute. The campus focuses on graduate and professional programs. Savannah — Savannah is home to Mercer’s four-year M.D. program of the School of Medicine, as well as the Professional M.B.A. program of Stetson School of Business and Economics and graduate programs in Tift College of Education. College of Liberal Arts Macon — The oldest of the University’s academic units, the College of Liberal Arts is Mercer’s academic cornerstone. The College offers an array of baccalaureate programs in the humanities, fine arts, sciences and social sciences. A unique offering of the College is the Great Books Program, which provides students the opportunity of focused study of the classic writers and thinkers of the Western world. Degrees offered — Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science.
Walter F. George School of Law Macon — Founded in 1873, Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law is one of the oldest law schools in the United States and the first in the state of Georgia accredited by the American Bar Association. Mercer Law School’s educational philosophy is based on a commitment to preparing students for high-quality, general practice in a day-to-day learning environment that is both supportive and professional. Its innovative Woodruff Curriculum — which focuses on ethics and practical skills — earned the Gambrell Professionalism Award from the ABA for its “depth of excellence.” With an enrollment of approximately 440 students, taught by an outstanding faculty, Mercer Law School is nationally recognized for its programs in legal writing, moot court, public service, and ethics and professionalism. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Atlanta — For more than a century, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) has maintained a tradition of excellence and a national reputation for producing leaders in the health care profession and has made notable contributions to the fields of pharmacy and health sciences. Mercer is ranked as the No. 3 private pharmacy school in the United States and among the top 32 private and public pharmacy schools. With the addition of the physi6

cian assistant and physical therapy programs, COPHS offers many interprofessional healthcare education opportunities. The Center for Drug Delivery Research provides graduate students opportunities to conduct research in formulation/ solid dosage forms, microsphere/nanotechnology, vaccine delivery and transdermal delivery. School of Medicine Macon, Atlanta, Savannah — The School of Medicine was established in 1982 to educate physicians and health professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia. The Mercer School of Medicine Doctor of Medicine program utilizes a problem-based education that provides early patient care experiences. The School’s academic environment fosters the development of clinical problem-solving and instills in each student an awareness of the place of the basic medical sciences in medical practice. The School of Medicine operates two fouryear campuses. Clinical experiences for Macon students are

provided by the Medical Center of Central Georgia, and in Savannah, Memorial University Health Center partners with Mercer to provide training and instruction. Other degree programs offered at the Mercer School of Medicine’s Macon campus include the Master of Public Health and Master of Family Therapy. In fall 2007, the School of Medicine began working with Piedmont Healthcare to offer its Master of Family Therapy degree program in Atlanta. In August 2012, the School of Medicine will launch a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Medical Psychology. In January 2013, a certificate program in Preclinical Sciences will begin its first semester.
Eugene W. Stetson School of Business & Economics Macon, Atlanta, Savannah, Douglas County Center — Mercer’s Stetson School of Business and Economics offers undergraduate and graduate (B.B.A., M.B.A.) degrees in Macon and Atlanta, the M.B.A. in Savannah, and the B.B.A. degree in Douglas County. The School holds the highest level of accreditation for business education by

School of Engineering Macon — Mercer’s innovative and academically challenging engineering and engineering-related programs provide students with a comprehensive education, featuring a solid foundation in mathematics and sciences, a core engineering curriculum, a range of courses in engineering specialties and a strong emphasis on communication technologies. The School of Engineering marked its 25th anniversary in 2010 and continues to be ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top three master’s-degree-level engineering

Tift College of Education Macon, Atlanta, Savannah and Centers — Mercer’s Tift College of Education prepares more teachers than any other private college or university in Georgia. It offers baccalaureate and graduate degrees and has programs on the Macon, Atlanta and Savannah campuses, as well as in the University’s Regional Academic Centers. Guided by the conceptual framework of the “Transforming Practitioner,” the College is dedicated to preparing effective teachers and educational leaders who aspire to grow professionally throughout their careers, while also seeking to transform the lives of students. James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology Atlanta — Established in 1996, McAfee School of Theology brings Jesse Mercer’s founding vision of providing students with a classical and theological education full circle as it prepares students for the ministry. McAfee shares Jesse Mercer’s concern that churches have pastor-leaders who understand Scripture and can clearly articulate their Christian beliefs. Georgia Baptist College of Nursing Atlanta — Nationally recognized Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, the oldest nursing program in Georgia, is grounded in its heritage of educating students to provide superior nursing care. College of Continuing and Professional Studies Macon, Atlanta, Savannah, Centers — The College of Continuing and Professional Studies offers cross-disciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs and provides professional contract training for non-profit organizations and public agencies. The mission of the College is to offer academic programs to working adults seeking leadership roles in and beyond their communities and professional advancement or transition. The College provides working-adult students with distinctive, multidisciplinary programs that integrate theory and practice, liberal learning and professional education, and knowledge and experience. The College also contributes to the quality of education provided to students enrolled in other academic units by offering general education and elective courses at the Regional Academic Centers and Macon and Atlanta campuses. The College offers the Bridge Program for English Language Institute students who desire to transition to undergraduate colleges and schools throughout the University. Townsend School of Music Macon — Townsend School of Music is nationally recognized for its artist faculty, award-winning students, wide range of performance ensembles and state-of-the-art facilities. Townsend offers a thorough and rigorous curriculum, providing a conservatory-quality music education within a university environment. Students benefit from small class sizes and individual instruction from faculty who regularly perform on campus and at major national and international venues. Specialized music programs include the Townsend-McAfee Institute for Graduate Church Music Studies and the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings. Division of Library Services The mission of the Mercer University libraries is to serve as learning-centered gateways of information resources through robust collections and innovative, technology-rich patron services to support the educational endeavors of the

The four Mercer libraries and three Regional Academic Center libraries offer a wide range of print, non-print and electronic resources, including Web-based library catalogs and remotely accessible full-text databases. Mercer is a full participant in GALILEO, the awardwinning statewide library network that brings full-text resources, e-books and indexes to the researcher’s desktop. Tift College Scholars Mercer University has partnered with the Tift College Alumnae Association to preserve the legacy of Tift College — a Baptist women’s college in Forsyth, Ga., that merged with Mercer in 1986 — through the Tift College Scholars Association. The program honors a select group of young women at Mercer with scholarships and inclusion in one of the University’s most distinguished scholastic organizations. A committee of Tift College alumnae interviews and selects the scholars from applicants who meet the University’s high academic standards. A Tift Scholar is known for her intellect, spirituality, commitment and dedication to her school, family, church and community. A tift scholar is awarded a bronze medallion, signifying her selection and participation in the program. Tift Scholars are an important part of the enduring legacy that began at Tift College more than 160 years ago.
International Programs The Office of International Programs manages the International Student and Scholar Services Program (F-1 Visa and J-1 Visa Advising), the Study Abroad Program, the English Language Institute, and all other forms of student 14

and faculty exchange programs. Through the Office of International Programs, Mercer students have study-abroad and service-learning opportunities in more than 20 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The Office of International Programs is located on both the Macon and Atlanta campuses.  
Mercer On Mission Mercer On Mission offers transformational experiences to Mercer students through participation in high-impact international servicelearning opportunities. In 2011, Mercer On Mission teams traveled to Armenia, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Greece, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Trinidad and Vietnam. For 2012, programs are being planned for Brazil, Cambodia, Dominica, Guatemala, India, Israel, Kenya, Liberia, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania and Vietnam. The five-week summer program, designed for undergraduate students, includes two weeks of study on the Macon campus and three weeks abroad.

ROTC The Mercer University ROTC unit was activated in 1947. Today, the program commissions officers into any of 15 basic U.S. Army branches and into the active Army, U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard. With military science instruction and associated activities, ROTC courses are open to all students as electives and without obligation. The courses aim to develop leadership and managerial potential, provide an understanding of the requirements and organization for national security, and instill a strong sense of personal integrity and individual responsibility.
The Grand Opera House The Grand Opera House, a performing arts center of Mercer University, is a historic, 1,000-seat theatre located in downtown Macon. The Grand brings live, professional performing arts and entertainment to Central Georgia. In addition to its Broadway Series of nationally touring productions and its GrandKids Arts Education Series for thousands of elementary, middle and high school students each year, The Grand hosts a variety of special events. The Executive Forum, Presented by BB&T Established in 1979, The Executive Forum, presented by BB&T, is Georgia’s premier business enrichment program. An outreach program of the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics and the Office of University Advancement, the Forum is a resource for working professionals in Macon and Atlanta. Mercer Engineering Research Center Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), an operating unit of Mercer University, employs more than 180 engineers, scientists, logisticians and support staff collectively possessing a broad range of expertise in scientific and engineering disciplines. The Center provides engineering, scientific investigation, logistics and management support, and educational services to a broad range of government and commercial customers. The diversity of expertise of MERC’s staff and its integrated product team approach increases efficiency and cost effectiveness while creating a unique environment for research, development, design and analysis. Since its inception in 1987, MERC has exceeded $300 million in contract awards. MERC also offers internship opportunities for Mercer students who work closely with MERC engineers and scientists in a broad range of areas supplying support in the execution of client contracts. This hands-on experience allows Mercer students to add depth to their education while gaining a better understanding of expertise provided to customers and clients in solving real-world problems.

Mercer University Press Mercer University Press has published more than 1,200 books since its establishment in 1979. It publishes approximately 35 scholarly books each year, generally in the areas of religion, philosophy, Southern history and culture, regional studies and literature. University Athletics Mercer University is the only NCAA Division I private institution in Georgia and competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference, of which Mercer is a founding member. In the 2010-11 academic year, 67 percent of all student-athletes earned conference all-academic honors. The grade-pointaverage for all studentathletes for the year was 3.052. Mercer’s 15 intercollegiate teams include men’s baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and air rifle, and women’s basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. Women’s sand volleyball will be added in spring 2012 as an NCAA emerging sport, and non-scholarship Division I football will return to the Macon campus in fall 2013. Other members of the Atlantic Sun Conference are Belmont, East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Stetson, North Florida and South Carolina Upstate.
University Center The 230,000-square-foot University Center (UC) serves as the focal point of activity for students, faculty and staff on the Macon campus. Along with housing a full schedule of activities from varsity and intramural sports and wellness and recreation programs to social gatherings, the UC also serves as a place to meet, grab a quick lunch and catch up on e-mails. 18

A major feature of the building is a 3,200-seat arena, home to the Mercer Bears basketball and volleyball teams. Other features include Bear Rock Café, food court, fitness center, varsity athletic team rooms, athletic offices, Griffin B. Bell Board Room, Presidents Dining Room and Heritage Hall. The Mercer Wellness Program at the UC offers fitness classes for all ability levels. Students, faculty and staff combine fitness and fun with cardio kickboxing, ballroom dancing, yoga, aerobics, weight training and martial arts. An indoor track overlooks three intramural courts, and the wellequipped fitness center overlooks the indoor lap pool, where students can enjoy a swim or take an aqua aerobics class.
Alumni More than 65,000 Mercer alumni, including graduates of Tift College, live in all 50 states and in more than 70 countries. The Mercer University Alumni Association, governed by a National Board of Directors and an Alumni Board of Directors for each college and school, seeks to promote the commitment of alumni to the University. The Association sponsors events each year, including Homecoming on the Macon campus and “Mercer Connections” in cities where alumni live.
Educational Partnerships Warner Robins Air Logistics Center Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (WRALC) is the largest entity housed at Robins Air Force Base. In 1983, WRALC and Mercer began discussions about the critical need for engineers at WRALC. As a result, the University

established the School of Engineering in 1985 and Mercer Engineering Research Center in 1987. The educational partnership was formally renewed in 2004. The relationship continues to grow with the addition of Mercer’s Science and Engineering Building, which opened in fall 2007. Today, Mercer is WRALC’s largest source of engineers. Center for Health and Learning Piedmont Healthcare and Mercer University have formed a partnership that hosts a number of joint initiatives, including nursing, pharmacy, research and other medical and allied health education programs, as part of the Center for Health and Learning. One of the first initiatives of the Center was the establishment of the Piedmont Nursing Scholars at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing, a move designed to address the critical shortage of nurses in Georgia. In fall 2007, the School of Medicine also began working with Piedmont to offer its Master of Family Therapy degree program in Atlanta. It was the first accredited master’s-level family therapy degree offered in the Atlanta area. Mercer’s third health sciences unit, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, also collaborates with Piedmont on a Physician Assistant program that enrolled its first students in January 2008.
