INTRODUCTION

Mercian has been established since 1968 as a supplier of high quality surgical instrumentation.

We present our catalogue detailing our range of instrumentation for Hand & Foot Surgery.

These specialist instruments are manufactured to the highest possible standards with the most modern processes.

STANDARDS

Mercian is certified to meet standard ISO 13485: 2016. Recognised as a mark of excellence applicable to our management systems, processes and procedures. We are subject to continual assessment of these procedures to ensure standards are maintained by an independent outside notified body.

Annual surveillance ensures our compliance with ISO 13485: 2016, MDD 93/42/EEC Annex II and MDR 2017/745.

WARRANTY

To ensure our instruments perform as expected, all Mercian instruments are covered by a 12 month warranty covering any manufacturing/material defect. Any instrument failing these standards will be repaired or replaced without charge.

Tuppers Hand Retractor Set

Tuppers Universal Hand Holder and Retractor Set enables the surgeon to fixate the hand in any position needed. The patient’s hand is held absolutely firm and allows unhindered work under the microscope.

Ball chains of varying length with skin or tendon hooks fixate the hand and lower arm on the Hand Holder.

Due to the slots around the Hand Holder, retraction in every direction is possible.

Upward retraction is easily achieved with the elevated chain holders.

The Hintermann Distractor is used in foot and ankle surgery for bone distraction as an alternative to Lamina spreaders. The instrument can be locked and applies distraction across two K-wires placed on either side of a joint.

Two K-wires (either 1.6 or 2.5mm Ø) are introduced into the correct holes in the spreading arms, and penetrate the bone at appropriate position into each of the two bone fragments to be distracted.

Hintermann Distractor with closed arms

The spreader is then distracted, and locked when the required distance between the two bone fragments is reached.

The Hintermann offers flexible positioning with the advantage of not interfering with the procedure.

These distractors are available in two different sizes (15cm or 21cm), and with closed or outspread arms, allowing them to fit different indications.

Acland Clamp Pressure Tester Gauge

Ensuring your Acland Micro Vessel Clamps are applying the correct pressure onto delicate vessels is an essential consideration for successful vessel anastomosis. An annual validation of vessel clamps is good practice for micro surgery sets.

Mercian offer a testing service where we audit your clamps pressure to ensure each clamp is within tolerance, therefore exerting the correct pressure, preventing damage to the vessel walls and consequent failure of the flap.

Clamp is applied between two sensors on the Clamp Gauge where the applied pressure/force can then be accurately calculated.

Description: Silicon strip with 1mm grid on one side and plain on reverse side, available in blue, green and yellow colours. Packed in boxes of 12 pieces.

Application: For use in micro surgical anastomosis of micro vessels under a microscope to allow the surgeon to better visualise the detail of the vessels, being joined.

The Visibility Material can be used either with the grid side up to give the surgeon a scale of the vessel, alternatively the reverse plain side can also be used.

Mercian Basic Hand Set

Information on application;

The Digiband digital tourniquet is manufactured from medical grade silicone, with excellent physical properties. It exceeds ISO 10993 standards for sensitivity and dermal irritation. It has a tensile strength 7.0 Nmm-2 min, with an elongation of 400%. It cannot be over-tightened yet effectively produces ischaemia and a bloodless field.

The strip is 10mm wide presenting a broad flat area of pressure and reducing damaging peak pressure. The material cannot roll reducing the surface area. The material is brightly coloured and the time of application can be easily written and recorded on the tourniquet.

The strip does not need to be rolled over the injury site thus avoiding further injury.

The release of the clip automatically loosens the tourniquet even if the strip itself is left in situ. The use of a clip automatically includes the tourniquet into the “count” though the tourniquet itself should also be “counted” and the time of application and removal noted on the records and operation notes. The tourniquet is low profile and unobtrusive avoiding interference with the surgical field.
