Motivation: design to COMMUNICATE Everything in the world are communicating with each other and in this way, they create many kinds of connections. Architecture is a small part of communication, but it is a catalyst for all these events. It is crucial for me to create constructions which communicate and connect with others in my undergraduate studying. And this is also a ambition for me.

COMMUNICATION need a certain place to hold.
There are three key elements in communication: SPACE, TARGET and TIME. Communication is an interactive behavior that targets happen in a certain time and a certain space. And the container of targets will be enriched with the processing of this interactive behavior. These three elements can create many new conceptions and be very crucial points for design. Refers to communication, the common thought is that the communication can just occur in people; but thinking deeply, communication can exist not only in people but also in everything (no matter nature objects or people). They communicate with each other and have many important effects on others. Communication is a behavior beyond voice even spirit. There is an intense interaction in these three elements and they are not exclusive. In another words, these three elements are not independent. Some time, the relationship of them can be blurred or permeated in order to communicate in a spontaneous way.
A space doesn't just offer a place for communication, it provides more possibility. All potential possibility will merge in a SPACE and this action makes the SPACE like a joint. What's more, the SPCAE does this on its own initiative, so the SPACE has life in its own.
SPACE TARGET is the main part of COMMUNICATION. The TARGET contains not only a real object but also a inclination and a tendency. A Thing must be able to exist independently before becomng a TARGET. Because of its independence, the way of processing is decided into a certain direction in COMMUNICATION.
TARGET TIME is the axis of COMMUNICATION. Generally, the TIME exists as the timeline which makes communication continue. And sometimes, it will connect and predict the past and future of a communication. In this phase, TIME has the ability to create relationship with itself.
TIME SPACE and TARGET and TIME is ambiguous. They cannot be defined absolutely and they will permeate through each other. It is very difficult for me to divide a natural object into only one element of these three things absolutely since it is just have an inclination to one element.
AMBIGUOUS These three elements are interact frequently. COMMUNICATION cannot exist depending on only one element. This will contribute the processing of interaction for SPACE, TARGET and TIME. What's more, you can always feel the interaction of these elements, even though it is invisible.

For INTERACTION, the first phase is succession. No matter what the tendency of communication is, the elements will develop in a liner obit and they can't change suddenly. All elements are related. The second phase is Romantic Reality. There isn't a definite emotional inclination to judge which element is better. For instance, some conversation you think is good, but it is just looks like good. It can't be so obvious that communication is.

Three key elements
For AMBIGUOUS, the first extension is DIRECTION. It is uncertain and multi-way without a fixed result. It make communication various and ambiguous. The second extension is UNSTRUCTURE, it doesn't have a certain boundary and divisive possibility that make elements be able to merge and change. We cannot predict the later state of communication because of UNSTRUCTURE.
A Basic container
Communication has three elements which have connection and extension. These relationship and elements are named after communication tree. The root of the Communication tree contains three natural objects(human nature and tools). They are eventually classified into SPACE TARGET and TIME. All of these elements are connected with INTERACTION and AMBIGUOUS.

BOUNDARY? -COMMUNICATE with SPACE in a student union designThe boundray of space is just living in your imagnation. In the short view, the communication need SPACE as a support. Widely, the space is the container of all thing in the world. Without space, things cannot connect with each other. This activity center aim to explore the definition of space. Traditionally, space means enclosing, but can space exist beyond a boundary? Back to constructions and users, we may live in a subjective world. It may also be subjective that how we consider about the boundary of space. I want to talk about the uncertainty and explore the boundary of space via architectural language. What's more, it may contribute the communication.
CONCEPTS Space is not just contain architectural space bus also space of environment human site and even other architecture. The space of constructions provides important place to contribute all space to communicate. I often think that if the site is uncertain it can help to create more complex muti-related relationship between constructions people and nuture. For people who stay in this construction, the relationship bewteen you and other things comes from how you consider about the architectural space. This is my opinion that the change of consideration the change of space. This design is a device aimed to accelerate the speed of change.
What is space? We need define the meaning of SPACE because It is a aspiration of architecture. In my view, space is rather than a room or place, it is invisible container of everything. In another word, space is boundary that enclose each thing. All is space, all exist space.
What does a architectrual space provide? As many devices, constructions can be considered as a kind of connections to connect everything. So they resemble animals which can provide place to cover all things and make them communicate.

More uncertain space more chance Since construction can connect everything, in this way, they will provide more possibility for everything in connection. If the boundary of space is ambiguous, the path which connect with each other will be diverse, and the behavior and state will be completely different.
Communication and the Ambiguous boundary
You don't know how many boundries between you and your opposite space.
Blurring boundaries makes connections more complex, and this complexity contribute to communicate, no matter who between the things-inthemselves or between different things. In a architectural space, the activity of human is not isolated, human will take part in other’s activities. And this kind of fusion is the most meaningful thing in activity center, then the communication is created everywhere without any words and voice.

I did many trials to blur the boundary of space. And by these ways, I did some explorations and utilization in the basic form of architectural space. And finally, some new boundarybluring spaces that correspond their functions were created. Additionally, I explored three kinds of spaces (Human, architecture, and nature) about their possibility and connection for themselves.

PLAN & SITE LOGIC Communication is a logical thing. It contains clearly space, target and time. So architecture need a strong logic to communicate with other buildings and its site. Furthermore, faced with this complex site where different historical building live, it's a useful point to contribute the communication in site by conducting a method naturally by HISTORICAL. So the way of generating plan is based on GRID and TRIPARTITION which is used by Greek in design classical order.

The process of designing goes through with the consideration of vertical relationship and horizontal relationship. In order to blur the boundary of everything who is contained by SPACE, the boundary of construction need be blurred and then the communication space without boundary is created. Vertically, constructions, nature and human are crossing with each other. I ignored volume and boundary of objects, which the sight of people can cross together and the nature and consturction connect with each other seamlessly. And horizontally, spaces connect with others continuously even the connection of space happens without connecter (for instance, a stair connect 1st floor and 2nd floor, and the stair is named as connecter).

THE AMBIGUOUS CORRIDOR Two functions are completed by through corridor. (1) The activities in the corridor will permeate into other spaces, and accelerate the blurring of space. (2) Each space will be connected and their individualism will be canceled to generate a bigger space.

Back to site, the construction become the knot and connecter of site and surrounding environment. All ACCESS will cross, and various behaviors are connected, additionally, the sight also has some optimization. The communication space is extend to surrounding. And in the choice of material, the usage of Aluminum plate and glass can touch with surrounding buildings at utmost, and then, the material and boundary will be blurred.

The architectural department is serves for students and teachers, so the construction is mostly focused on users. Communication has a certain direction and the ability to interact. So, the direction and interaction defined the target of communication cannot be everything. In conclusion, only people can achieve this aim.

SITE & USERS The site is located in the new campus of Beijing architectural University and the architectural department is near the most important crossroad of the campus. As the students of architectural, they propose many needs and imagination of their new department.
1 The site is located in northeast of the Daxing campus of Beijing Architectural University, and the north is the department of Civil Engineering. The west is library and grass landscape with the east and south surrounding by campus and city main street. The sight in this site is very clear.
2 There are three crucial architectural points in this campus. The first one is dormitory area, and the second one is the library and third one is the architectural department which has DIRECTION naturally. So it is a very important thing to create a markable construction which can welcome the people who enter the campus. In the phase of access, the construction is the end of all main access, and people will look forward to this when they walk through the whole campus. The construction should be a climax in these groups of buildings.

CONCEPTION The relationship of people and that of groups can be the main part of communication and it is also a crucial reason why a architecture exsist. For groups, if a group is putted into a space, people in this group will be broken up and separated, and then they will be joint and polymerized into vary circles. And every circleds have their unique needs and characteristic. The reaction have a state named overlap. For individual, they communicate via exchanging of different thoughts. Many new thought is came up with by communicating. And in this way everyone can get other's thought. Some same part of these two different thought can be named overlap part. And for architecture, the design should react these situations.

This cube is the main part of citysupplied water. And this water supply the drink and life water in this construction. And this cube protects the water from polluted.
These three cubes contain urban electric ware cube, Internet cable and communication cable. And they will be merged in one big box and this box protects them from distribution of electromagnetic wave and others.
The rainfall cube is the receiver of recycle system in the roof and the rain will be the collected in the sewage collector. And the sewage recycle system contains 3 parts which are sewage collector, disposal center and water ton.
Solar PV system is used to generate electricity so that we can reduce the expand on energy consumption.
The warm or cool water flue in this cube, which separates in every levels and the air, will be heated or cooled by this water.
Vehicles have a very easy approach to the underground park which is near to the service area.

And refers to time, it is easy to think about culture, and the past now and future of culture is a very good point for time. This design is paid more attention to the TIME of communication. Comparing with the past decades years, the humans have done efforts to protect the diversity of culture, beyond all doubt , the colorful culture has been more and more important, people came out from a lost state and pick up those forgotten life again. This may appears the other problem of the attitude to life, the Rock music, Buzz Lightyear, Routemaster, these are accompany with you, however, these normal thing may be disappeared someday, our life will leave more regret. Please reflect on the attitude to the endanger culture, the reasons of the disappearance may be the ignored attitude so that people forget efforts to preserve memory. The culture capsule is a great storehouse that everybody could join and put their culture into here, no matter whether the public or the minority. When we want to recall the past life in the future, these capsules could show our memory, for example early culture and the daily life. CULTURAL ISSUE With the development of globalization, a problem which had been neglected before has come back to people's eyes. That isthe disappearance of cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is significant for human. For instance, they are able to adjust, adapt and vary as the same as diverse genes. As Bock, an American anthropologist, said that the value of cultural diversity is not only rich our social life, but also provide with many resources for social renewal. But now, more and more kinds of culture are endangered, and it is just in recent decades that people have realized this trend and reached agreement for its importance. Especially in 2002, UNESCO published UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, and then the crucial position that cultural diversity played was confirmed by the international community.
PHENOMENON 1 The disappearance of language Research carried out in the 1990s by David Crystal suggested that at that time, one language was falling into disuse everytwo weeks. CONCEPTION In order to solve this problem, we imaged a skyscraper whose main body is consisted of many boxes. We call these boxes as cultural CAPSULES. Every cultural capsule owns one kind of culture of humankind, and also, there is something you can put in inside, no matter it is a city or a book. As a whole body, they could own everything of humankind for the future. Capsules indicating different cultures which produced in the approximately same time will be settled in the approximately equal height. And we choose the site near the Pyramid which is a symbol of the origin of culture and the Nile contribute to the evolution of humankind. This is a very meaningful place. Every culture will communicate with the old Egyptian culture which across thousands years. And people will feel this from 1st floor to upper.

Pyramid The triangle means Tripartition, the classical proportion. The cultural capsules whose form is more modern will grow as a reverse triangle. This refers to communication between modern and classic.
The Nile is a important location for human culture. Firstly, this river bring up the human which is thought the origin of modern human. Secondly, many wars and disaster happened here, and caused many culture disappear. it is a clearly caution for cultural conservation.

The more prosperous of civilization, the more capsules and the bigger the platform. The upper the newer, and some culture can even cross several levels. They communicate with themselves and others in the past of time.

Civilization of humankind is developing. We will never lose the memory of PERVIOUS. We could find the cultural acceleration appeared in the whole progress of the human civilization. It takes 3000 years from agricultural society to the industrial society, however, it just takes 100 years from the steam age to the electrical era, moreover, we have been in information era by decades of efforts. Following the development of era, the culture will become more colorful. The increasing trend of colorful culture is obviously, at the same time, the form of Culture Capsules react to this trend.
This is the center of the vertical transport and the core of evacuation. As the center of the whole capsule, the development and continuous of the capsule will be from the elevator.

Elevator Hoop The elevator is made by several cubes separately and the elevator hoop can help to hoop the cube and make them combined together.
Enterance Hall There is an entrance hall which is the bottom of the groups of elevators in every levels. And it provides some basic function like store or cafe for visitors to have a rest.
Platform Framework The platform is connected to the enter cube, and there is a significant structure to support the whole huge platform named platform framework. It is an outer hoop in the enter cube and extra ting eight straight frame.

DETAILS The main part of this construction is the cell named capsules. This is contained with 3 main parts of cell. Firstly, the framework. They can support all the structure and make a cell as whole. Secondly, container plane. It can xifu cultures and make them exist in it forever. Thirdly, the center cube, it can receive energy and create transportation space in a cell.

Other Work -COMMUNICATION with othersAll is communication, and communication is all. Fine arts & Photograph/ Parametric Experimental Design/ Highrise Design/ Interior Design COMMUNICATION is a main topic in my undergraduate life. From sketching to the interior designing, it is clear that they are all considered about the relationship between themselves and others. In fine art, the light and shadow should be found to make the paint harmony in these two elements and then touch other's hearts. And the interior design also need architect to find a key point to contribute the communication of human and constructions. Besides studying, communication lives in everywhere and every field in my life. So this makes me feel that all is communication and communication is all. I use some other work to exhibit some expression that the three main designs cannot express. These are also good memory that I spend a lot on them. The projects are mainly address the issue of using and function. You will find that no matter what the topic is, they are all connected with communication since they explore the possibility of communication.

9 Days Parametric Experimental Design Tsinghua University Summer School 2013 Tutor: Professor Dr. DAVID GERBER, ANDREW R. HAAS, LU FAN (Team work, involved in concept generation, model making and diagram drawing) The project is to design and model a house for 200 bicycles that promotes flow and security and shelter from the elements. Conceptually we are being asked to think about the storing and picking up and dropping off bicycles as a social act and one that holds potentials for dynamic interaction and affects. The bicycles was chosen for its ability to impact individual and group behavior in terms of health and the environment and for its own design quotient in terms of engineering, material tectonics and aesthetics. The program is to provide shelter, method for storage and paths for ingress and ingress for 200 bicycles. And we may choose to add social amenity to the bicycle house.

2014 March - June SAKO Architect Group work (3 people) I was involved in concept generation, model of foot-colunm making and diagram drawing.
The relationship of city is same as relationship of people. And so does construction. In another words, construction is a extension of human. A person is just a bubble which is interact with outside carefully.This psychology will react in every social activities. In order to break this, I try to search the possibility of outside and inside with the key points named fused bubble.

I believe that communication is the origin of every beautiful thing. And everything is the result of communication. Without it, the world cannot be so colorful. Communication permeat into everything and make them unity and perfect. From past to now, Greece to China, architecture are always exploring the proposition and harmony which is effert for communication. This is the thing I will explore forever.
