President’s Message
The holiday season provides a wonderful opportunity to pause our busy lives and reflect gratefully on the many blessings all around us. During this meaningful time, we joyfully celebrate you, our steadfast supporters. Through your heartfelt generosity, you further the mission of the Sisters of Mercy.
Renee Blickle and her fellow Mercy McMahon Terrace residents are so grateful for the improvements to the dining room. Ample space allows them to socialize and dine together, especially during the holiday season!
Mercy McMahon Terrace Celebrates New Dining Room and Kitchen
Since its opening more than 30 years ago, Mercy McMahon Terrace has been welcoming Sacramento-area seniors and offering them support and comfort so they may flourish throughout their golden years. Reflecting the Sisters of Mercy’s legacy of caring, Mercy McMahon Terrace has a spirit of genuine warmth and compassion.
To ensure the needs of its current and future residents would be met, in early 2020 Mercy Foundation began raising more than $1.25 million to renovate and expand the community’s kitchen and dining room—adding all-day dining and a wider variety of menu options. The exciting project was completed this fall and the community’s grateful residents and hardworking staff who support them are thoroughly enjoying the beautiful and open new dining area and expanded and efficient kitchen.
“The larger dining room is just wonderful,” shares 90-year old resident Renee Blickle. “The new chairs and floors are lovely. And the room is so bright, open and friendly–just like our community.”
Mercy Foundation is deeply grateful to donors like you whose gifts ensure residents of Mercy McMahon Terrace live in the beautiful environment they deserve while receiving the very best care.
The stories you’ll read in this newsletter illustrate a sampling of ways your compassion helps those in need. From the tiniest babies needing extra care in the hospital, to appreciative seniors enjoying their golden years, your generosity helps people in our community in all stages of life. Thank you for truly making a positive difference for our ministries and those they serve.
Wishing you and your loved ones a beautiful holiday season and health and happiness in the new year, Kevin B.

Gratitude for Your Support
“My time at Cristo Rey was one of the most enriching experiences I’ve ever had. Not just because of the amazing education I received, but also because the work study experience has allowed me to grow and mature in the workplace and in my everyday life.
Cristo Rey is rooted in the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy and the Society of Jesus and both of these have values of Social Justice and Service. I was able to work closely with faculty and staff about issues that were important to my peers and me to cultivate a community where each and every student felt safe, loved and accepted.
At Cristo Rey, you find community and kinship unlike any other. I was greatly supported by my peers, as well as the faculty and staff. And it helped me to become the person that I am today.
Because of Cristo Rey, I am able to attend Sacramento State University on full scholarship, where I am currently majoring in Criminal Justice. I am the first in my entire family to attend college and after I graduate, I plan to earn a Juris Doctor degree.
None of this would have been possible without all of Cristo Rey’s amazing and generous donors. On behalf of all alumni and the current and future student body, I thank you for allowing us to have these opportunities and making it possible for us to reach for our dreams.”
Securing the Dream for Cristo Rey High School Sacramento
Gratitude, joy, and excitement filled the hallways of Cristo Rey High School at the recent Securing the Dream campaign celebration. Thanks to the incredible generosity from donors like you, over $8 million in support was raised to ensure the school will continue to deliver on its mission to support deserving students in our community for years to come.
At the special event, which included a celebratory mass, campaign supporters and Cristo Rey students enjoyed lunch together and visited enthusiastically with each other. During this lively and warm gathering, students shared their hopes and aspirations for the future and expressed their appreciation for the positive impact of donors’ generosity to the school.
Since opening in 2006, Cristo Rey High School has provided an affordable, Catholic, college-preparatory education and professional work experience to students from low-income families in Sacramento. The Securing the Dream campaign was launched in 2020 to increase opportunities in the Work Study program, attract and retain outstanding teachers, build an educational endowment and own the school facility debt-free.
Mercy Foundation is deeply grateful for the continued support of our donors who ensured the school remains a vital community resource and beacon of hope for local underserved students and their families.
Students and donors enjoy lunch together.

Mercy and Health Care, a Tradition of Excellence
When the Sisters of Mercy arrived in Sacramento in 1857, they began their local health care ministry with courage and determination–compassionately tending to the sick with the very best care.
Employees Giving to Our Community
Today, through your individual acts of generosity, the Sisters’ spirit of caring continues to flourish at our Sacramento Area Dignity Health hospitals and clinics. By partnering with Mercy Foundation to support our health care ministries, you help our caregivers maintain a margin of excellence and provide the highest level of care and healing kindness for you and those you love.
You are truly transforming lives with your gifts, which recently provided:
• Advanced imaging technology at Mercy General Hospital, which can help reduce the risk of stroke, dementia, and heart failure for patients experiencing an irregular heartbeat.
• A testing instrument for the Laboratory Department at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, which quickly determines a potential stroke patient’s risk of bleeding and allows for fast medical intervention.
• A life-saving fluid infuser at Mercy San Juan Medical Center, which offers critical support quickly and safely to trauma ICU patients and new mothers in the Family Birth Center suffering from unexpected blood loss.
• State-of-the-art equipment in Mercy General Hospital’s Operating Room, which gives physicians enhanced visibility and provides the best possible outcome for surgical patients.
• New resuscitation devices for the Emergency Department and ICU at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, which provide high-quality and continuous CPR for patients in cardiac arrest.
• A jaundice-measuring device in Mercy San Juan Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which reduces pain and stress for precious and vulnerable new babies.
Thank you for your generous support of our health care ministry through your kind and generous gifts!
Our dedicated and hard-working local Dignity Health employees not only serve patients every day with compassion and humankindness, but many choose to be part of our powerful community of kindness by making gifts to Mercy Foundation in support of a variety of our ministries.
Their incredible generosity recently supported projects and equipment that enhance care at our Sacramento hospitals:
• At Mercy General Hospital, employees funded an instrument that helps speech and language pathologists quickly diagnose and treat patients experiencing difficulty swallowing–creating a better experience and potentially shortening their hospital stay.
• At Mercy Hospital of Folsom, employees helped pediatric patients in crisis by donating to fill backpacks with essential clothing, much-needed hygiene supplies, and other items to bring comfort and reassurance.
• At Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, employees donated to provide touchfree water bottle filling stations that help visitors, patients and staff stay well hydrated, while reducing singleuse plastics.
We are deeply grateful to these employees whose generosity makes a positive difference in our community!

An Evening of Friendship and Gratitude
After a long, three-year hiatus, this fall Mercy Foundation was pleased to once again host our annual McAuley & Legacy Societies Celebration, recognizing our current and new McAuley Society members (donors who have made lifetime gifts totaling $25,000 or more) and Legacy Society members (those who have included Mercy Foundation in their estate plans).
Joining us at this inspiring and special celebration were Dignity Health leaders, local Sisters of Mercy, and over 140 partners, friends and associates. To all of our donors, thank you for your generous support, which helps provide health care, education, housing, and care for the poor, elderly and those most vulnerable in our community.
For more information on how you can become a part of the McAuley Society or Legacy Society, contact Kevin Duggan at kevin.duggan@dignityhhealth.org or 916.851.2703.
Caring for Our Tiniest Patients: Annual Golf Tournament Benefiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mercy San Juan Medical Center
On October 3, Lawson Mechanical held its 16th annual golf tournament to benefit our tiniest, most fragile patients. A full slate of golfers enjoyed a lovely day on the green at Del Paso Country Club and a check was presented to Mercy Foundation for proceeds totaling $20,000.
Thank you, Lawson Mechanical, for raising more than $340,000 over the last 15 years to benefit babies in need at Mercy San Juan Medical Center’s NICU.

Updated Lobby and Reflective Garden Offers a Warm Welcome at Methodist Hospital
Thanks to your support through Mercy Foundation, Methodist Hospital of Sacramento recently completed a beautiful remodel of its lobby and Reflective Garden–enhancing the space so all who enter experience a positive, welcoming presence. As part of the project, a new, central information desk was installed and better positioned in the lobby to check-in patients, guests, and staff, and ensure that important health protocols are being followed. And the Reflective Garden was updated to offer a serene environment for patients, families, staff and physicians.
Mercy Foundation is grateful to all the community and employee donors who contributed to this project, which will have a very positive, warm influence on all who enter Methodist Hospital.
Video Thank You for Advancing
the Mission of the Sisters of Mercy
Through your compassion and generosity, you are lighting the way and bringing hope to so many of our community members in need.
It’s an honor to partner with you as part of our Mercy Foundation family, and we’d like to share a special video about the Sisters of Mercy’s historical collaboration with our community. This video also expresses our deep gratitude for your commitment to our shared mission.

Your Generosity Made a Difference for Local Children This Summer
Thanks to your generosity, 170 local children attended Camp Mercy 2022, a welcoming, in-person summer camp program. Your support provided an enriching, educational and fun experience for youth residing at Mercy Housing properties, which provide an affordable living opportunity for low-income families in our community.
Campers enjoyed Camp Mercy’s exciting “STEAM-venture” theme, where they participated in creative, engaging, hands-on activities that incorporated science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The campers made new friends, encouraged each other, and played together during and after their summer camp time. And parents were grateful to have a convenient, inclusive, cost-free program to keep their children safe, exploring, and learning!
Thanks to you, local children in need created wonderful memories and learned new skills–a joyful week they wouldn’t otherwise have had the opportunity to experience. Your generosity truly made a difference!
