MVC Opens Site in San Francisco
Staff Member, Angie Carlton ‘05, Coordinates New Site in California This past month, Mercy Volunteer Corps announced its new service site placement in San Francisco, California. With the coordination between staff member Angie Carlton ‘10 and the Sisters of Mercy in San Francisco, MVC was able to secure service sites and housing this past January. Mercy Volunteer Corps will place two to four volunteers in this new site beginning this August. We are offering volunteer placements at three different service sites: Faithful Fools Street Ministry,
Mercy Retirement and Care Center, and St. Peter’s School. Volunteers are needed in multiple fields in order to fill these site placements. Our Faithful Fools placement is for a volunteer interested in Street Ministry from hospitality services to supporting retreats. Mercy Retirement and Care Center is in need of a volunteer to serve in their Life Enrichment Program as well as provide personal visits to isolated senior citizens. Lastly, St. Peter’s School is looking for a volunteer
in the education field to work with elementary or middle school focus groups in Math and English Language Arts. St. Peter’s is also open to placing a volunteer with interest in Music Education or Campus Ministry. MVC is thrilled to begin building relationships in this new city and is excited to start placing volunteers in these new service sites! We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible! We could not have done it without you all! Photo above: California and Arizona Volunteers on Retreat

Detroit Hosts Alumni Retreat Alumni and Current Volunteers in Detroit Attend Retreat
Mercy Volunteer Corps alumni hosted a retreat for current MVC volunteers, MVC alumni, pre-associates, and associates on March 21, 2015. Kate Anderson ‘09 wrote “Former and current Mercy Volunteers as well as young Mercy Associates held a morning of Lenten reflection on March 22 at the McAuley Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The retreat was an opportunity for reflection and discussion on recognizing God’s Mercy and sharing Mercy with others. The reflection morning was planned and facilitated by Associates/MVC alumni Megan Carolin ‘09 and Katie Anderson ‘09 and also by Sister Karen Egri, RSM.”
We are thrilled to announce that Mercy Volunteer Corps staff member Suzy Murphy James ‘05 and her husband Luke welcomed a baby girl on March 13th. Maura Anne was born at 8:01pm and is a happy and healthy baby! Maura is seven pounds, one ounce and 22-inches long. Mom, dad, and baby are all doing well and are excited to begin this new chapter of their lives. We are also happy to announce that Maverick, beloved German Shepard, is loving his new roommate Maura! The Mercy Volunteer Corps staff celebrates this wonderful time with the James family and offers them our continued support and prayers. We wish them many blessings, especially in these first few weeks with the newest addition to their family! If you would to send a card to congratulate Suzy, Luke, and baby Maura please mail it to this address: P.O. Box 206, Black River, NY 13612.
