Conduct your own experiments. Develop processes which provoke discovery and thought. Search for patterns, correlations and new ways of seeing things.
This project is based on inspiration derived from physics, chemistry or biology. During this project Merel Rozendaal developed a personal response based on appropriate research for fashion and textiles design. The developing process started with a mindmap and gathering primary and secondary information, followed by fabric experiments and trend research. After the design direction was determined Merel continued experimenting with patterns and shapes which finally resulted in sketching the final fashion design collection.

My research and design process resulted in a collection based on the shapes inside and outside the brain.” I have been looking into multiple brain waves which appear during different activities and emotions. I used those different waves as an inspiration for developing garments which fit the mood or activity of the brain wave. To complete the psychological effect of the garment I matched the mental effect of colours with the garments according to the brain wave.
