A Message

From the Committee The committee would like to welcome all our guests this weekend to the British Columbia Ambassador Program. We have had a wonderful year with our 2016 BC Ambassador team Madeline, Emily and Sierra. They have done an outstanding job in representing our province and promoting our mandate. We would like to extend best wishes to the 2017 candidates and hope you enjoy your weekend. We realize some of you will be disappointed in not achieving a title but we hope you have gained skills and knowledge which will benefit you beyond this week. As always, we are truly grateful to Merritt Mayor Neil Menard and Council and to Nicola Valley Tourism. Merritt has been a gracious host to this program from the beginning. The people have welcomed us year after year and for that we thank you! To the BC Coordinators, who are some of the hardest working ladies in the province, you are all rock stars! Your dedication to the youth is undeniable. To our Centennial Booster Club ladies that treat us with kindness and feed us so well...thank you ladies! Also to Jamie, Shawn, Graham and all the Merritt Civic Centre staff, you are so helpful every year. We appreciate all that you do for us. Sincerely, The British Columbia Ambassador Program Committee

I live on Harper Ave, in the West Village, in Quesnel, British Columbia within Canada, and I am one of three girls lucky enough to call themselves BC Ambassadors. My time holding this title is coming to an end, but every moment that I was fortunate enough to hold it, was a blessing. I have travelled the province, volunteered with great organizations, met remarkable people and grown more than I could have ever hoped. It was an absolute honour to represent Quesnel across the province and bring the message of the BC Ambassador Program to so many people. There are countless people that have helped me along this journey and I thank you all for your support over the past year. To the BC Ambassador Program Committee. You absolutely amazing ladies, you give so many young people the chance to grow in ways they never thought possible. I am forever grateful for your never ending enthusiasm and hard-work. When everything runs so smoothly, it’s easy to forget all the commitment and planning that goes into making it that way. You’re on going dedication to the program helps foster leaders for our province and I can’t thank you enough for helping me along my journey. Thank you to Teresa, Colleen, Julianne and everyone else who has a hand in keeping this amazing program going. It is people like you that I strived to be like when I joined this program, and I hope one day I can inspire other women like you inspired me. To the Ambassador programs across BC. Thank you to every coordinator, committee member, sponsor, and candidate of the many ambassador programs across the province. Each and every program gives young people the chance to improve themselves and nurture skills that will aid them later in life. These marvellous volunteers provide an amazing opportunity to so many youth in their communities, thank you for keeping these programs going so more youth can undergo the life changing experience of being part of an ambassador program. A special thanks to the Miss Quesnel Self Development Program where I got my start. To my family. Thank you for supporting me through my candidacy and my reign. Thank you for voting every day, chasing convertibles and editing all my speeches. Thank you for lending me your car, making truck pins and loving me no matter if I have a crown or not. I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without your never ending love and relentless encouragement. To my amazing teammates Emily and Madeline. I can’t believe I was lucky enough to be crowned with such amazing ladies. You two are incredible role-models, fantastic ambassadors, and even better friends. I am thrilled I got to experience this year with you two. This year has been an adventure. My journey may be over, but I leave this stage with memories and friends that I will never forget. I have loved every second of representing my city and province; it has been an experience like none other. And as my year as a BC Ambassador has come to an end, I can’t wait for the next chapter to start. Sierra Cook

As I look back on the years that I have been blessed to spend in ambassador programs, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming feeling of happiness and pride. Ambassador programs enrich the lives of those who pursue them and I feel honored to be able to say that my life has been forever changed from the opportunities given to me through these programs. During my time as a Cowichan Lake 2nd Princess in 2013, and now as a BC Ambassador, I have been given the chance to perfect my public speaking, be a role model to youth in my community, and make everlasting friendships, all while representing my hometown of Cowichan Lake everywhere I went in our beautiful province. I have so many people to thank who have all helped me gel to where I am today. Thank you to the Town of Lake Cowichan, the Mayor and Council, and Areas I and F, for all your support of me, and the Lady of the Lake Program. To my sponsors, the BPO Elks Lodge #293, and Buckerfields, thank you for all the support through my candidacy. To the Lady of the Lake Society, Denise, Cindy, Jane, Mary, Rob, and Tanya, thank you for all your hours and encouragement through my time as an ambassador. Your support means everything to me, and I cannot thank you enough for all you do for me, and the youth in our community. Mom and Dad, thank you for always being the ones I can go to for anything. Your constant support and love can guide me through anything life puts in front of me. Thank you for always assuring me that everything is alright, even when it all seems to be falling apart. Your patience and support this past year has been truly amazing and appreciated and I cannot tell you enough, I love you. Nick, Josh, and Jason, thank you for always being the comic relief I needed to push through, and sticking by me through the busy times. The British Columbia Ambassador Committee, thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity and travelling with me to all the places I was fortunate to travel to this year. Thank you for shaping me into the ambassador I am today. I cannot imagine a more beautiful place to represent, than our province of British Columbia. I have been taught so much this year through my time as an ambassador and feel incredibly blessed to have been given this opportunity. The skills i have acquired, the knowledge i have gained, and the people that i have had the honor to meet, are all something i will cherish for the rest of my life. With Love Emily Pastor

Madeline Tremblay BRITISH COLUMBIA 2016 AMBASSADOR

Certain phrases carry with you throughout the years of your life, and are applicable in a variety of situations. When I was a Ladysmith Ambassador candidate, we each picked a quote to be read as we walked in for Coronation evening. Mine was “Don’t cry because its over, smile because it happened” - Dr. Seuss. That quote embodies how I feel now, as I prepare to pass on my British Columbia Ambassador title. The British Columbia Ambassador Program has taught me many lessons, all of which will stay with me for the rest of my life. As a candidate and ambassador I met dozens of people who dedicate hundreds of hours to put on events for others to enjoy, simply because they love doing it. Passing on my title to one of our deserving candidates means giving her the amazing opportunity to help people in her community for the next year. But it doesn’t mean that I won’t keep volunteering in mine. The biggest lesson that this program taught me is the value of being involved in my community. My passion for volunteering will continue even without a title, and I now have the confidence to move forward, without a tiara and banner, and continue to help others. My sponsors, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 171 and Yellow Point Lodge, made it possible for me to participate in this program - thank you for your generosity and continuous support throughout this journey. The Ladysmith Ambassador Society, committee, candidates, and ambassadors, have always been incredibly supportive of me and I can’t express how thankful I am for all of you. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the Ladysmith Ambassador Program and the people involved in it. The BC Ambassador program would not be possible if it weren’t for a group of dedicated people: the committee. Thank you for your continuous hard work to keep this program running so that youth have this opportunity. I am so grateful that I had the chance to represent Ladysmith as well as the province of British Columbia, and it is an experience that I will always treasure. You have all impacted my life and I am thankful that I got to know each of you. To Ambassador committees throughout the province: thank you for the commitment and dedication that you put into running these programs. I was welcomed with open arms and warm hearts at each function that I attended in your communities, and you all do so much for the youth who join your programs. Your hard work benefits so many and it definitely does not go unnoticed. To my family and friends: thank you for being the listening ears, the kind words, and the support that I could lean on during this journey. You have all encouraged me to be myself and pursue my passions, and I cannot thank you enough for everything you do. My year as a British Columbia Ambassador has been unforgettable, and I am thankful that I had Emily and Sierra to go through this experience with. You are both beautiful young women who I am proud to call my friends, and I can’t wait to see where your next steps take you. As we pass on our titles together, I know that we’ll be smiling through the tears as we look back over the past year. - Madeline Tremblay, British Columbia Ambassador 2016
