Songs of the

holiday season

T’was The Night Before Christmas T’was the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplumbs danced in their heads, And Mamma in her kerchief and I in my cap Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the newfallen snow Gave a luster of midday to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer; With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: “Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer! and Vixen! On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!

4

To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall! Now, dash away, dash away, dash away all!” As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew With a sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddlar just opening his pack. His eyes how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry. His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly

That shook, when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf. And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself. A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work. And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose. And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose. He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight, “Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night.”

O Holy Night O holy night! The stars are brightly shining, It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining. ’Til He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! O night divine, the night when Christ was born; O night, O holy night, O night divine! Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. O’er all the world a star is sweetly gleaming, Now come the wisemen from out the orient land Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, With all our hearts we praise His holy name. Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we, His power and glory ever more proclaim! His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Let It Snow Oh the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful And since we’ve no place to go Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! It doesn’t show signs of stopping And I’ve bought some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss good night How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight All the way home I’ll be warm The fire is slowly dying And, my dear, we’re still goodbying But as long as you love me so Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Frosty The Snowman Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corn cob pipe and a button nose And two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow but the children know, How he came to life one day. There must have been some magic In that old silk hat they found, For when they placed it on his head, He began to dance around. O, Frosty the Snowman, was alive as he could be. And the children say he could laugh and play, Just the same as you and me.

You know Dasher, and Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen, But do you recall The most famous reindeer of all ...

Wishing all of you the very best of the season and a prosperous New Year!

Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer, Had a very shiny nose, And if you ever saw it, You would even say it glows! All of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names; They would never let poor Rudolph Join in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say: Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight? Then how the Reindeer loved him As they shouted out with glee; Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, You’ll go down in history!

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer Grandma got run over by a reindeer. Walking home from our house Christmas eve. You can say there’s no such thing as Santa, but as for me and grandpa we believe. She’d been drinking too much eggnog, and we begged her not to go. But she forgot her medication, and she staggered out the door into the snow. When we found her Christmas morning, at the scene of the attack, she had hoof-prints on her forehead, and incriminating Claus marks on her back.

Have a very Merry Holiday Season and Joyous New Year!

Now we’re all so proud of grandpa, He’s been taking this so well. See him in there watching football, drinking root beer and playing cards with Cousin Mel. It’s not Christmas without Grandma, All the family’s dressed in black and we just can’t help but wonder: Should we open up her gifts, or send them back? Send them back!! Now the goose is on the table and the pudding made of fig and the blue and silver candles that would just have matched the hair on grandma’s wig. I’ve warned all my friends and neighbors better watch out for yourselves, they should never give a license to a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping on your nose, Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

They know that Santa’s on his way; He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. And every mother’s child is going to spy, To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe, Help to make the season bright. Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

And so I’m offering this simple phrase, To kids from one to ninety-two, Although its been said many times, many ways, A very Merry Christmas to you

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth Every body Pauses and stares at me These two teeth are gone as you can see I don’t know just who to blame for this catastrophe! But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as it can be! All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see my two front teeth! Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could wish you “Merry Christmas.”

Season’s Greetings During the Holiday Season more than ever, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our progress possible. And in this spirit we say, simply but sincerely Thank You and Best Wishes for the Holiday Season and a Happy New Year

For Christ is born of Mary, And gathered all above, While mortals sleep, the angels keep, Their watch of wondering love. O morning stars together, Proclaim the holy birth, And praises sing to God the King, And Peace to men on earth. How silently, how silently, The wondrous gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts, The blessings of His heaven. No ear may his His coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him still, The dear Christ enters in.

From our family to yours

O holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us, we pray. Cast out our sin and enter in, Be born to us today. We hear the Christmas angels, The great glad tidings tell, O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel.

Wonderland

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening A beautiful sight, We’re happy tonight. Walking in a winter wonderland. Gone away is the bluebird, Here to stay is a new bird He sings a love song, As we go along, Walking in a winter wonderland. In the meadow we can build a snowman, Then pretend that he is Parson Brown He’ll say: Are you married? We’ll say: No man, But you can do the job When you’re in town. Later on, we’ll conspire, As we dream by the fire To face unafraid, The plans that we’ve made, Walking in a winter wonderland. In the meadow we can build a snowman, And pretend that he’s a circus clown We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman, Until the other kids knock him down. When it snows, ain’t it thrilling, Though your nose gets a chilling We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way, Walking in a winter wonderland.

God Rest You, Merry Gentlemen

God rest you, merry gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, For Jesus Christ, our Saviour, Was born upon this day. To save us all from Satan’s pow’r When we were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy! For Jesus Christ, our Saviour, Was born on Christmas Day. In Bethlehem, in Jewry, This blessed Babe was born. And laid within a manger, Upon this blessed morn; The which His mother, Mary, Nothing did take in scorn.

From God our Heavenly Father, A blessed angel came; And unto certain shepherds Brought tidings of the same: How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by name.

“Fear not,” then said the angel, “Let nothing you affright, This day is born a Saviour Of virtue, power, and might, So frequently to vanquish all The friends of Satan quite.” The shepherds at those tidings Rejoicèd much in mind, And left their flocks a-feeding In tempest, storm, and wind, And went to Bethlehem straightway, This blessed Babe to find.

Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas All others doth deface. O tidings of comfort and joy! For Jesus Christ, our Saviour, Was born on Christmas Day.

But when to Bethlehem they came, Whereat this infant lay, They found Him in a manger, Where oxen feed on hay, His mother Mary kneeling, Unto the Lord did pray.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Fred, Lorna, Barb, & families wish you a very safe & prosperous new year.

Christmas Crafts Mason Jar Lid Ornaments What you’ll need: • • • • • • • • • • •

Recycled Christmas cards 2 mason (canning) jar rings Scissors Instant grab glue Handful of cotton batting (fabric scraps, cotton balls, anything similar will do) Fold top sandwich bag or plastic wrap Electrical tape 24” piece of twine Mod Podge or white craft glue Small paint brush Scrap strip of fabric

How to make it:

Place Christmas card on work surface and position the jar ring over the card so that you can see the design through the ring. When you have it where you want it, use a pencil to trace around the ring. Cut the circle out of the card. You will need to trim the outside of the circle until it fits inside the ring. Remove the circle from the ring temporarily. Pipe the inside rim of the ring with instant grab glue. Place the circle back into the ring and gently press the edges into the glue. Repeat this process for the second ring. Place a handful of cotton batting inside the sandwich bag. Squeeze out the air, twist the top of the bag to close and secure it with a piece of the electrical tape. Place the cotton batting bag in between the two rings, pictures facing out. Sandwich the two rings together and pipe instant grab glue all the way around, securing the two rings together. You may need to hold the rings together for a minute or so as the glue grabs. To make the ornament more secure, wrap electrical tape around the ornament where the two rings meet. Cut a strip of fabric to fit around the outside of the ornament. We used some gingham fabric (from boxer shorts!) and frayed the edges a bit. Next, add a thin layer of Mod Podge or glue onto the black tap, then press the fabric onto the glue. Try to join the ends of the fabric at the bottom of the ornament where they won’t be seen. Add a dab of Mod Podge at the seam where the two ends meet. Tie the twine around the outside of the ornament, making sure to tie the knot at the top where you want it to hang from. Tie a knot at the top of the ornament to secure the twine then from the two loose ends, tie at the top to create the hanger. Secure the twine with a bit of instant grab glue and let dry. Hang in your tree!

Friday, december 11th at 7 pm doors open at 6:45 pm

How to make it: Cut your stencils apart. The stencils that are like a sticker are easy to use. Remove it from the paper backing before you use it. Get your glass paint paint & dauber ready. Place your stencil onto your jar. Smooth it out & make sure it is laying completely flat. Then you’ll take your dauber & dab a little paint over the entire stencil. While the paint is still wet remove the stencil. Next frost your mason jars with salt. Put a coat of Mod Podge on your jar. Then sprinkle the salt onto your jar. Shake off any excess. You can use regular table salt on the jar and then around the rim use the coarser Kosher salt. Tip: the salt does become a little more opaque as it is exposed to the air. So if you are making these for an event or holiday dinner don’t make them too far ahead of time for best results. Set your new luminary set on a glass plate with some snowflake confetti. Tie a ribbon around the top, & put in some tea light candles. Then light the candles!

A non-denominational program of remembrance. Music & Light Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP.

Appetizers Snowman Cheese Ball

Pita Tree Appetizers

All holiday appetizers should be this fun! This adorable snowman is made of a delicious spread of seasoned cream and Cheddar cheeses.

Plant a forest of pita bread trees on your table in less than 30 minutes.

3 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened 4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (16 ounces) 2 tablespoons basil pesto 1 tablespoon grated onion 1/4 teaspoon yellow mustard 2 drops red pepper sauce 1 container (4 ounces) whipped cream cheese, softened

4 flavored or plain pita folds or pita (pocket) breads (about 6 inches in diameter) 16 thin pretzel sticks, halved 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream 1/2 cup guacamole 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley 1/4 teaspoon garlic-pepper blend 1/4 cup very finely chopped red bell pepper

Mix 3 packages cream cheese and the Cheddar cheese; divide into 3 equal parts. Combine 2 parts to equal two-thirds of mixture; mix in pesto. Mix onion, mustard and pepper sauce into remaining one-third mixture. Cover each cheese mixture and refrigerate about 4 hours or until firm enough to shape. Shape each cheese mixture into ball. Wrap each ball, label and freeze. About 12 hours before serving, remove balls from freezer. Thaw in wrappers in refrigerator. Arrange balls on serving plate with smaller ball on top for head of snowman. Frost snowman with whipped cream cheese before serving. Decorate as desired. Serve with crackers. Store covered in refrigerator.

Cut each pita fold into 8 wedges. Insert pretzel stick half into center of bottom of each wedge to form “tree trunk.” In small bowl, mix sour cream, guacamole, parsley and garlic-pepper blend. Spread about 1 teaspoon sour cream mixture on each pita wedge. Blot bell pepper with paper towel to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle about 1/4 teaspoon bell pepper on each wedge or arrange to form a garland. If desired, cover and refrigerate up to 8 hours before serving.

Garlic Bread Wreath 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese 1 loaf (1 pound) frozen white bread dough (from 3-pound package), thawed 1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil 1 small clove garlic, finely chopped Grease cookie sheet. Spray outside of 6-ounce custard cup with cooking spray; place upside down on center of cookie sheet. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of the cheese over flat surface. Roll bread dough in cheese into 24-inch rope. Place rope on cookie sheet and form into circle around custard cup; pinch ends to seal. Make cuts in dough at about 1 1/2-inch intervals from the outer edge of the circle, cutting two-thirds of the way through, using kitchen scissors. Lift and turn every other section of dough toward center of the circle. Cover and let rise in warm place 2 to 3 hours or until double. (Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.) Heat oven to 350°. Mix oil and garlic; brush over dough. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons cheese. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove custard cup.
