The 1st leg of a race is excruciating and exhilarating! The challenges in your way to cross the graduation finish line have been overwhelming! The prize-worth more than your great grades is the knowledge that whatever life throws your way, hard work, perseverance, a good sense of humour and faith in God to make all things work for goodwill get you through it. We love you and are so thankful to have you in our family. Mom, Dad, Evan,Cameron and Brooklynn

Valedictorian Speech G
ood evening et Bonsoir! Welcome parents, families, friends, teachers, and fellow graduates. As the two thousand and twenty one Valedictorian of Merritt Secondary School I want to say: “We did it – We finally did it! Despite many odds, despite feeling as if every little thing was against us, we still did it – we graduated! The past year has been life-changing. From the scary Covid-19 Global Pandemic to Gen Z’s weekly invention of new words like “sheesh”, this year has not failed to surprise. Just think – only four short years ago, we were walking the hallways of MSS for the first time – intimidated by seniors towering above us. Now, we are the towering seniors. From Kindergarten to grade 12 we progressed as one, experiencing both achievements and set-backs together. Now, for the first time, destiny will
take us in separate directions. We will be without that one special friend who always has our back, or that special teacher who boosts our mood with a simple joke (ahem Mr. Sambrook). I know it’s scary to pursue our own dreams alone. BUT, that is not the truth. We will not be alone. There will be many new relationships ahead. It is tough living and graduating in a pandemic. We made many sacrifices! We remained strong! And we remained united in spirit! Whether it was Zoom or Facetime, technology has been an important God-send to stay connected with loved ones. The most important take-away from high school is not winning a big award, or being the most popular; it’s our relationships. From close friends to casual acquaintances in the hallways, we will miss these interactions. Both good and bad memories forged with fellow classmates will forever be held in a special place. As world renowned poet Kanye West once said, “Memories have to be our most painful blessing.” To the Merritt Secondary School graduating Class of two thousand and twenty one –
