A SENSE OF PEACE

Called “Locutions,” Adolphe's floating forms started as a simple visual concept.

“As those paintings developed they became for me something so personal that I began to see them as gifts—messages— epiphanies that communicated an overwhelming sense of peace and encouragement.”

CREATING YOUR OWN PATH

“Life could be easy for some. The ride is smooth with the right horse. Others are forced to walk their way. But for those who have the horse and still choose to walk on their own terms, the rewards of creating your path and collecting the experiences on your way are humbling and satisfying.

Walk at your own pace; enjoy the time creating the path of your journey with your own two feet.”

BUDDING ROMANCE

A new series of one of kind pieces by Gavin Benjamin, Miss A Thing weaves together a narrative about the theatrics of today's fashion and music industry.

"A mashup of ideas, excessiveness, extravagance, opulence, surrealism, drama, and most of all the budding romance of spring...”

—GAVIN BENJAMIN

READY TO ENGAGE

Images of either animals or people who engage in any form of combat (think bulls and boxers) are another theme often present in Adolphe's work.

“The subjects are never painted while they are engaged in whatever contest is particular to them, rather they are in a state of anticipation of the contest at hand...They more often than not present an ideal specimen in top form ready to engage with any and all adversaries, both real and imaginary.”

BEFRIENDING YOUR INNER SELF

“Sometimes we get or feel trapped by the webs of our own doubts or troubles. The same mischievous inner self that gets us in this position will help us get out of being tangled. Face and make a friend of your inner self, and together resolve the puzzles to free yourself. ”

A LITTLE BIT OF MYSTERY

Gavin Benjamin is inspired by the work of 15th to 17th century artists, particularly the Dutch and Italian masters.

“There is something very romantic, dark, mysterious, and brooding about these works. I find this period fascinating because of the deep, luxurious colors and intense light and dark shadows. I am drawn to the juxtaposition of objects and compositions that come together to tell a story.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF DREAMING

“[This series] made me become more and more aware of the importance of dreaming, not in terms of escaping, but in terms of living a fulfilling and rewarding life...They made me think that wonderful things are not only possible, but also inevitable and within my reach. ”

EMBRACING JOY

“Joy and happiness in life are often there for us to take. They are a choice, and when we realize it, the opportunity to take the sweetness of life will make us run and not look back. This is a playful painting to remind us to take the good and keep on going. It will take us far.”

REFLECTION OF EVERYTHING

“My work reflects everything that I’m thinking—it includes everything that I love and everything that I’m challenged by.

It’s honest and curious and bright and thoughtful. And sometimes a little dark. It’s all of the things that made me want to be a professional artist in the first place.”
