In general, the projects I have worked on seek to be an expression of an artistic vision in an architectural medium for the enrichment of architecture and its sensitivity, materiality, and contextuality while exploring the overlap of the physical, cultural, and artistic definitions upon each other.

oblique bo DIPLOMA PROJECT FACULTY CHAIR’S AWARD feb16’ june17’ individual project, designer location: Bologna, Italy type: student center
CONCEPT, PROCESS
.The project aims to design a student center on the edge of a medieval wall in the university campus. The challenge is to form an act that enchances different time segments while proposing a new order .Bologna is perceived as a medieval city that is strictly defined by horizontal and vertical lines. However, this project handles all of the definitions in an in-between space that takes being /oblique/ into account metaphorically and physically. As a result, formally being the antithesis of the current order.
.The cultural richness of Bologna is often referenced by / intellectual lab / .This reference /intellectual lab/ is prompted by the expansion of the borders of the spaces that is causing the overlapping programs. For the inhabitants of today the idea of the spaces is formulated this way; space + program + identity overlap by time, by events, and by the structure .So despite the fact that being quite opposite of Bologna by means of the form, the spatial analysis suggests that Bologna is already living in overlapped spaces that are stratifying within themselves by time, event and structure.
CONCEPT, PROCESS
Oblique lines create a continuous flow between the spaces by continuous slabs. This spatial flow has been taken as the heart of the project for the generation of architectural intersections. The /oblique.bo/ takes what Bologna defines spatially + programmatically and converts them to a spatial action

expanded threshold ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO V fourth year sept16’ feb17’ individual project, designer location: ankara castle mural terrain, turkey type: sustainable landscape
CONCEPT, PROCESS
.Expanded Threshold is a landscape project that aims to sustain the historic area of central Ankara ecologically, socially and culturally. .The name stems from the theoretical and spatial analysis of the site. In the Ankara Castle region, it is seen that physical architectural elements are expanded in their scale. The main example is the castle wall. The wall creates its own landscape by duplicating, scaling and expanding itself(mural terrain). This is how the wall secures and creates the life inside.
overlapping map
collage- castle wall forming a terrain
the threshold, design area
.Historically, this area was conquered by many civilizations, however, this mountainside had never been spatially active, thus it has stayed as an untamed threshold. The idea is to expand this threshold as the wall does to itself and design the life of today and tomorrow. .As an outcome, the design envisions this area to be an educational and cultural center while being the focus of ecologic production. In addition, the design values the cultural richness and layers of the area by linking them all together. .Thus, the idea of expansion is not only physical but also metaphorical by creating links between cultural, technological and ecological factors.

CONCEPT, PROCESS
.The housing project is located in a part of the city where new urban transformation process is negatively affecting the living habits. Urban transformation interventions that increase the density uncontrollably, threaten the former living habits and lifestyles. .The idea is to keep the complexity of mass housing design while offering individuality to the units so that living in mass, wouldn’t mean the loss of individuality.

.The proposed housing project employs a strip strategy. The strips exhibit character variation from the public to private functions while embodying landscape, commercial activities, and housing. They are connected to each other and with the neighborhood via pedestrian bridges. .The focus is on the housing strip: linear blocks which have a maximum of 7 storeys. For the first 3 storeys, can also be accesses by a ramp that carries the movement from street to the housing units, creating an exterior circulation.

BUILDING DETAIL STUDIO third year sept15 feb16
individual studio project, designer location: ankara, turkey type: housing
CONCEPT, PROCESS
.The main aim of this exploration is to design a weekend house in the given context; the three concrete shear walls are given and can’t be changed. The requirement is to design the facade, roof, flooring, mezzanine floor, staircase and necessary railings for this cubic volume. The components are to be designed incoherence in various scales and to be thought to the detail of assembly.
.Questions to be considered are followed as... .definition of the particular detail problem that is targeted, .global functional requirements for the given detail item that is planned to solve .material alternatives for the components and parts that determined .fastening techniques that can be employed to construct the detail

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO II ArchED JURY SPECIAL AWARD second year feb15’ june15’ individual project, designer location: eskisehir, turkey type: community house
CONCEPT, PROCESS
exploring the process, the forces and the formation
.During the formation of the Co-House, the given site has been analyzed as the continuum of the public realm, namely: the river, pedestrian and commercial streets. .These elements have given the keywords such as permeability, transparency, flow, production and community that shaped the overall geometry, functional distribution of spaces and materiality.
.The given plot to be designed is a corner plot that has facades to water, pedestrian road, and commercial street. This corner is followed by series of row houses in front of the river. .The challenge is to create a building with public character while keeping a certain balance between the public and private realm in a city that has certain traditions and material culture.
site model justaposed with sketches and diagrams
DESIGN ELEMENTS PLANS, ECTIONS, DETAILS .On a larger scale, the existence of water is prioritized and a pedestrian alley is formed to establish a flow between two sides. .On a smaller scale, the city already employs certain construction techniques which is a hybrid of metal, brick, and concrete. As the program, the city gives references in terms of the communal usage of spaces and production culture in ateliers and workshops

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO I first year feb14 june14 individual project, designer location: non-location type:landscape fabrication - exploration
CONCEPT, PROCESS
.The system explores topics such as movement, speed, and density of movement, event spaces, forces on form, temporality, expansion, and flexibility. The idea is to express the production of spaces in different sizes and functions through a dynamic and multi-layered abstraction. The physical model expresses the one frozen instance in time.
.The main aim of this exploration is to produce a terrain with the method of aggregation of a modular unit. The final product is to accommodate a series of events and to have its own tectonic quality.

GENERATIVE DESIGN STUDIO fourth year sep17 jan 18 individual project, designer location: METU Architecture Faculty type:installation
CONCEPT, PROCESS
.Interlacing the elements of space (light, material quality, and grid) to each other, the design appreciates space metaphorically and visually. The main organizational idea is to collect light during the day to enhance the abstract quality of the space to enlighten the space during night. .This is important in case of architecture building to be active especially during the night given that the faculty is a production space all hours of the day. Stating this quality with a sculptural work in faculty building is one of the key points of the design.
.METU Architecture Faculty building is a modern masterpiece. The main aim is to produce an installation in this remarkable building by interpreting the gridal organization of the architectural elements with the contemporary design tools so that the building will act as an input to the design. The weave takes formal references from its context, transforms the space.

aestheti zati on of the i nvi si ble advanced architectural design research studio course group work location: METU type: exhibition design
‘The transparent quality of the superimpositions often suggest transparency of context as well, revealing unnoticed structural qualities in the object’
Archive I is the first exhibition of DOME | The new archive of METU Faculty of Architecture is to be main reminiscent of the accumulation of the environment of the faculty.
LászlóMoholy-Nagy ... Archive, by nature, is opaque that obscures the fragments of time. It is spatiality that stands between the diffusion and accumulation of the knowledge it stores. As Foucault says, “...it emerges in the fragments, regions, and levels more fully, no doubt, and with greater sharpness, the greater the time that separates us from it...” The aim of the exhibition is to display and aestheticize the presence of the archive. The concept of transparency is not only the apertures in the process of diffusion, but also it is a tool for the representation of archive. Aestheticization of the invisible is through the ‘transparency’ that is both the material and the concept of the exhibition. Hereby, with the ‘phenomenal’ and ‘literal’ transparency, the archive is aimed to be carved out to be visible.
“If one sees two or more figures partly overlapping one another, and each of them claims for itself the common overlapped part, then one is confronted with a contradiction of spatial dimensions. To resolve this contradiction, one must assume the presence of a new optical quality...Transparency, however, implied more than an optical characteristic, it implies a broader spatial order. Transparency means a simultaneous perception of different spatial locations...The position of the transparent figures has equivocal meaning as one sees each figure now as the closer, now as the further one.” Gyorgy Kepes
