The MEDIA-TECH Association announces important changes to the roles and duties of the Executive Board and Advisory Board After the recent members meeting held in Baden Baden, Germany, the Board has appointed Frank Hartwig of Cinram GmbH as Chairman and Donald Schaffer of Sony Chemicals Europe BV to the position of Vice Chairman of the MEDIA-TECH Association. Sylvia Hitzel of Singulus Technologies AG will remain as Treasurer of the Association and Michael Gutowski of Infodisc Technology GmbH will continue as Chairman of the Replicator‘s Committee and also as a member of the Executive Board. Martin Brown of M2 ODA International Ltd will step-down from his role as a Board Member and an election for his position will be conducted at the next members meeting that will coincide with the MEDIA-TECH Global Expo and Summit in Frankfurt, Germany, on May 18, 2010. The Association also announces the members of the Advisory Council for 2010-2011. Peter Falk of AudioDev Sweden AB, Michael Hosp of kdg Mediatech AG, Juergen Helm of Anwell Technologies Europe Ltd, Thomas Hackl of DataPlay GmbH and Tony Holden of ODC Nimbus.
The outlook for home entertainment at MEDIA-TECH Frankfurt Screen Digest‘s Tony Gunnarsson will examine at the MEDIATECH Summit on May 20th how recent trends in the consumption of home entertainment have affected overall consumer spending on packaged media in Europe. He will
assess how Blu-ray‘s performance to date compares with the take-up of DVD at a similar stage in Europe – and how it compares with today‘s growing digital delivery sector – and he will explain why it is crucial that the home entertainment industry manages to maintain the hi-def format‘s price premium over its standarddef predecessor. Google ultra high speed internet Google is planning to build and test ultra-high speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. Google claims that they will deliver internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. They will also offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.
CMC hikes prices for optical discs by 10% CMC Magnetics, the largest Taiwanbased maker of blank optical discs, has upward adjusted its quotes for the second quarter of 2010 by 10 % to reflect increased polycarbonate costs, according to the company.
