3D Making A Big Splash At IFA Another tech show, another 3D blitzkrieg
IFA is a technology trade show being held in the year 2010. You know what that means. People are going to be talking about 3D, and there are even a couple of keynotes set up to discuss the entertainment revolution surrounding this new medium. On September 3rd, ESPN and Constantin Medien will both discuss the importance of 3D and how it is shaping to become the next big thing in home entertainment. ESPN of course was the first network in the world to launch a dedicated 3D channel, although its reach is extraordinarily limited right now. Constantin is a production company involved with the upcoming 3D entry into the Resident Evil movie franchise. 3D films are expected to be an enormous catalyst for the theater industry over the next year. Why Sony believes 3D is here to stay
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Mike Hocking is a busy man. Not only does he run three game development studios in the UK, he’s also in charge of 3D games development worldwide for Sony. Even with all this on his plate he found the time for a chat at gamescom earlier this month. Read on for news of a 3D LittleBigPlanet, why Sony’s 3D is the best and why viewing 3D content is a lot like going for a swim. Sony working on 3-D TVs that don’t need glasses
TOKYO – Sony Corp. is working on 3-D televisions that don’t need special glasses, joining a race with rival Toshiba Corp., but sees cost and technolo gical hurdles to overcome before they can go on sale. Toshiba said earlier this week it is working on glasses-free 3-D TVs, although no decision had been made on when they will go on sale. Mainstream 3-D TVs now on sale, such as those from Panasonic Corp. and Sony Corp., require glasses. But there are already screens that don’t require glasses, mainly intended for store displays. They require the viewer to stand in specific spots for the 3-D effect to emerge, and the image quality is much lower than that of screens using glasses.
