SPOTLIGHT: SLTL GROUP
Vision 2020
Maulik Patel, Executive Director, SLTL Group spoke with ExpoDaily about his experience of ENGIMACH 2019 so far, his company’s main product offerings and the vision for 2020 Please tell us about your product offerings. Innovation has always been a guiding force for us, as just after its establishment, SLTL Group invented a fiber laser cutting machine. A laser cutting machine that went on to become a pioneer for the metal forming industry. Eventually Sahajanand Laser Technology Limited emerged as the first Indian company counted among the pioneers who brought about the laser revolution across the globe. At this company we want to bring the latest technologies to every small and large-scale
industry. By making the solutions more cost-effective, accurate and future proof, we make it available to a wide range of industries. We are a market and technology leader in laser cutting and engraving machines used in the manufacturing industries. Our innovations play a vital role in every sector – from software to high-tech electronics for smart factories. We have explored and ingrained technologies into multiple disciplines across the spectrum which are: Cutting, Marking, Welding, Hardening, Cladding, Micro Machining, and Solar Cell Scribing Right from top-notch experts with a rich knowledge of the industry to hardworking aftersales-support technicians, we have a team of dedicated professionals serving our clients. You will be pleasantly surprised to know that our oldest fiber laser cutting machine, installed in the US in 2008, is still up and running in a great condition. What has been your experience so far at ENGIMACH 2019? What are your expectations from the show? We have been participating in ENGIMACH for many years now. We love coming here for many reasons. One of which is that the show is located at in our hometown. At ENGIMACH, we get the opportunity to connect with our existing customers from all parts of India, particularly from Gujarat. It’s a great opportunity for us to have a meeting and cherish the relationships. Also, we have India’s largest laser manufacturing unit in Gandhinagar. Hence, we like to come here with fresh-from-the-factory innovative Laser Systems. We are getting a pretty good response from the visitors for our technology. We are conducting productive business engagements here. From the management perspective, I would say that the show is organized professionally and is attracting a greater number of visitors year-on-year. That’s what we can tell from our experience here. Even though the economy, as the media says, is facing a slowdown, the kind of response that we are getting this year tells us that despite all the pressures, the economy is very well on track. My expectations are always are on a higher side, that we all work towards. I am confident that we will get more and more number of new business enquiries for laser systems at the show. Which sectors are your main customer segments and what are the main market trends? It is quite difficult to narrow down the list to name just a few sectors. We are India’s Leading Laser Systems Manufacturing company and have a strong foothold in India as well as across the globe. As a company we have contributed advanced solutions to a wide range of industries. We have not only installed the most number What is your view of the growth of the laser industry? Can you share with us SLTL’s vision for 2020? SLTL’s vision for 2020 is that we would like to introduce a more economical product range. The customer’s understanding of the laser technologies is certainly a mature one, but the newer MSMEs would be more interested in buying laser systems they could use for their inhouse applications. That’s where the market seems to be heading. Of course, it doesn’t mean that job-shops are going to decrease in number, but there is definitely an increased preference for insourcing. In a scenario where the share of captive consumption is increasing, price competitiveness and economics of scale will matter the most. Our focus for 2020 is on helping our customers achieve economy of scale. Last year we had sold almost 100 plus machines and for the next year we are looking at 300 and more. I am sure that the speed at which we are moving towards the goal, we will be able to achieve it. SLTL GROUP ENGIMACH 2019 Hall 12 / Stall 67

SLTL Group Building Stronger and Safer Railways How we contributed with Laser Technology to serve Indian Railways The railways industry is under constant pressure to innovate and deploy more premium quality of train bogies in operation. The body structure of this rolling stock bears consistent load during post-processing, passing the train, braking, negotiating bends, and the rigors of other cyclic or ephemeral events and are subject to repeated tension created during their lifetime. Cracks and fractures can occur in these components such as body, bone, axles, and ballets. Therefore, ensuring a lack of fatigue is a primary priority when building these bogies. As an industry leader, SLTL Group took an initiative for a railway bogie manufacturer to overcome the challenges. The SLTL team learned the flaws in the existing manufacturing process and understood the limitations of the conventional methods of operation. With its unmatched expertise in the laser technology, the team conducted a series of rigorous experiments to find an appropriate solution. Through scientific research and tests, it was concluded that Laser operations provide a better finish and great strength in manufacturing wagons. The company started developing a machine which could be very fast and efficient. The idea was to deliver the same performance as that of standard laser cutting machine. The Train Bogie Cutting System The problem Over the years, for the calculation of railway load, certainly, multi-body simulation has been promoted as a reliable technique. Different levels of complexity of various methods exist to control the available data. Later, the software has been included in technology based on time-wave replication, the area measured on the original laboratory tire system, test technology for specific entertainment: The solutions include : • The growing demands of train bogie need faster production techniques. • The overall aesthetics of the wagons should be intact. • Customized laser cutting machine for long cutting operations. • The machine should be fully automated to reduce manpower and cost of operation. • Improving time efficiency in existing manufacturing infrastructure The Solution 22-meter long laser cutting machine As a result of the extensive research and development, the team was able to put together the highest level of capability in a machine which is of a staggering 24m long with 22m cutting bed size. The machine is made flexible to easily accommodate the metal sheet on the bed. With the excellent use of engineering, the machine is rightly balanced to absorb the vibrations. The machine is equipped to carry laser cutting operation on 22m metal sheet on a single command. Thus lowering operating costs and eliminating multiple operations. • Robust Structure: To deliver the 22m cutting bed size, the machine structure should be solid and robust to neutralize vibrations.
•
X-Y axis movement: The displacement of the laser head must be very quick to travel along the axes to access the cutting points. • Laser Source Power: The most dynamic laser power source to deliver accurate power and allows flexibility to adjust the power upon the requirement. • Customized Intuitive Software: The software must be equally calibrated to accustom extended size of the laser system. Vacuum Clamping Systems A simple solution for difficult tasks
AMF Vacuum clamping systems are used in the wood, plastic, glass, ferrous and non-ferrous metal industries for quick clamping and simple machining, and also to clamp work pieces for engraving, grinding, assembly and polishing etc. Best suitable for plates to be machined or processed. If plate is clamped all 5 sides can be machined in single set up, including holes or pockets if any. In vacuum clamping a pressure differential is created which presses the work piece against the clamping plate. Thus the work piece is not, as one might think, actually ‘sucked’, but is rather pressed against the vacuum table. The sliding surface of the work piece depends on its surface structure, the pressure differential and the area on which the vacuum acts. More the contact area, more holding forces. AMF Vacuum clamping plates can be operated using compressed air and venturi nozzle or with an external pump. Low compressed air consumption, thus low operating costs. By means of individual grid allocation it is also possible to clamp and machine multiple, different workpieces at the same time. It is also possible to integrate the Vacuum clamping into the AMF “ Zero Point clamping system, size K20. Sizes of plates available min 150x150mm, max 400x600mm. Bigger sizes on request.
