bout 10 years ago, Josh Davis was looking for a home that perfectly met his needs: low maintenance, openly designed, modern and versatile. After striking out in his search among existing homes, someone asked if he had considered building. He hadn’t, because he associated home construction with a higher cost versus buying a home already on the market. But upon meeting with Jagoe Homes and viewing some of their schematics, his mind was changed. “I looked at their floor plans, and they
were well within my budget,” Josh says. Ultimately, he went with building a new home with an existing plan that met his needs and allowed room for customizing. “I liked the idea of having a blank slate,” Josh says, “of taking a home plan and making it mine.” The result is a 1,384-square-foot abode at 4830 Bernheim Drive that combines a stylish aesthetic with smart functionality. A split bedroom layout is crossed by an open-concept floor plan in the common rooms. At the intersection is a living and entertaining space situated under a dramatic cathedral ceiling and bridged by a pass-through bar between
the living room and kitchen. “(The pass-through bar) breaks it up, so it’s not closed off, but there’s still a little bit of a break,” Josh says. The original carpet has been replaced with stylish, easy-to-clean wood plank flooring. Fresh paint in warm, neutral tones covers the walls. The kitchen features upgraded cabinets, an intricate tile backsplash and uplighting. The living room and three bedrooms also have network connections, a feature Josh was quick to implement when the house was being built in 2010. The attached two-car garage includes storage space and an epoxy custom floor. A tankless water heater was installed
in summer 2019, and the well-designed laundry room features custom cabinets and countertops. Situated in a quiet subdivision on the western outskirts of Owensboro, 4830 Bernheim Drive “has easy access to amenities, but it doesn’t feel as busy or congested,” Josh says. “It’s great for an older couple looking to downsize, or a couple starting out and getting their first home,” he says.
