As a business/trade association, the Home Builders Association of Owensboro strives to assist members to improve their skills in business operations and professional development. Through education and networking, builders, remodelers and the skilled trades craftsmen grow their businesses. With about 300 member companies that make up the HBA of Owensboro — builders, remodelers and developers plus the associate members of the organization, their suppliers and specialty contractors — the building industry provides thousands of permanent, local jobs. Formed in 1956, the HBA of Owensboro members enjoying benefits ranging from promotional events, ongoing educational development and advocacy at the local, state and national levels. Affiliated with the HBA of Kentucky and the National Association of Home Builders, members participate in workers compensation and health insurance programs designed for the construction industry.
Even though our name is Home Builders, this is not the limit of the scope of projects members complete. Over the decades members have expanded the community by developing and installing the vast majority of infrastructure and streets throughout the county. Other factors, such as the material used in the pool (i.e., concrete, metal, fiberglass, or vinyl) and filtration methods, also can affect the price, so consider each of these factors carefully before making your decision. Similarly, installers may specialize in dif ferent types of pools and spas, so it’s best to know which company will make your choice of aquatic installation shine.
Fall and winter are some of the best times to get deals on pool and spa equipment because it’s no longer prime swimming season. However, there are deals to be had come early spring as well. Retailers may deeply discount last year’s models to make room for new inventory. You may be able to negotiate if the price is just a bit beyond your reach. Retailers are motivated to make sales in the offseason, so try to use that motivation to your advantage. Buying filters, chemicals and pumps, making liner repairs and having a professional open or close your pool or spa for the season are necessary to retain your pool or spa’s pristine condition.
Extra costs can involve: • Insurance: Speak with the pool installer about any liability and compensation insurance they may carry to protect you in the event of an accident during the installation of the pool. Reputable builders should be fully insured. • Zoning laws, ordinances and permits: Rules regarding pool placement and size will var y depending on local laws. Always consult with the town’s municipal office and get the proper permits. Otherwise, you may face fines and be forced to spend more to fix problems that need to be addressed. • Financing: If you don’t have cash on hand for your pool or spa plan, you may be able to get assistance with your project through financial services. HBAO offers education, support, advocacy to members BY THE MESSENGER-INQUIRER
The Homebuilders Association of Owensboro has been educating and promoting local home builders and remodelers for more than 60 years. The organization has about 300 members in trades ranging from home builders, remodelers, contractors and more. There are two types of HBAO members. Builder Members’ “primary business is building or remodeling dwellings as a general contractor,” according to the HBAO website. An Associate Member is “anyone engaged in a trade, industry or profession directly related to housing and supply builders with goods and services,” the website states. Joining the HBAO also means joining the Home Builders Association of Kentucky and the National Association of Home Builders. Like the HBAO, becoming a member of those groups includes many benefits.
