When shopping for a new home, buyers often have to choose between quality and location. A bonus to potential buyers is the fact that the current owner, Ben Morris, commissioned the home and was involved in ever y step of its construction. Creating this home was a family affair. Ben’s uncle, Jerry Morris of Morris Construction, ser ved as the homebuilder and drew up the plans with his nephew. “The blueprint is an aggregation of different ideas we’d seen and houses

we’d liked,” Ben says. An accomplished carpenter, Ben’s father contributed solid oak cabinets for the upstairs and downstairs kitchens. Jerry’s son crafted the absolutely stunning tray ceiling in the upstairs family room. Ben’s wife’s idea for wine storage was brought to life by his father, who built a cabinet into the downstairs kitchen. The impressive herringbone subway tile in the kitchen was done by a friend. Proof of the family’s hard work and excellent design style is found in the home’s details: engineered hardwood floors; the gorgeous tilework in the master bath’s custom shower; a custom-built, solid wood interior door hung on a legitimate barn door track. Even the lattice work on the downstairs wine cabinet was an experiment that turned out beautiful. “I’ve been amazed by the (house’s)

craftsmanship,” Ben says. “When you get to watch the detail that goes into a home, that’s a cool experience.” 11081 Kentucky 764 of fers four bedrooms and three baths within its 3,390 square feet. The property encompasses a little more than 19 acres. The front and back

porches are aligned to perfectly capture sunrises and sunsets and take in views of passing wildlife. “This time of year,” Ben says, “we spend a lot of time out on the patio.” Ben says the area is also ideal for anyone interested in keeping livestock or growing small plots of crops. “The size (of the farm) is convenient,” he says. “It’s good for hobby farming — you can dabble in the farm lifestyle without being a full farmer.” 11081 Kentucky 764 proves to be a craftsman’s gem in a country setting. “I love the privacy of it, and I love the space,” Ben says. “I’m one mile from ... the city limits of Whitesville.
