Clark served as President for the Kentucky Association of Realtors. Clark is the 3rd Owensboro Realtor to hold this honor.
Challenges & Changes The most dramatic change over the 40 years has been technology, Clark said. In the past, agents were tied to the office for keys and the daily hot sheet. Today's technology has made information sharing easily accessible; Many agents carry tablets to show customers information on the spot. Today lockboxes are accessed via smartphone. Technology has made our job less about paperwork, and more about people and sharing knowledge. “Education without application is worse than worthless,” Clark said. Tony himself holds the designations of CRS: Certified Residential Specialist, CRB: Certified Residential Broker & Manager, GRI; Graduate of the Realtors Institute, in addition to many others. Clark is a CCIM candidate, Certified Commercial Investment Member. Education of agents is critical for career growth, and for the betterment of our customers and clients, Clark said.
2004 Clark honored as the Realtor of the Year for the state of Kentucky. This same year, Clark was also honored as CRS, Residential Specialist of the Year. The first time both awards given to the same recipient.
Born and raised in Owensboro Kentucky, and the youngest of 13 children, Tony Clark knew early the importance of hard work and honesty. Clark worked at Kroger's while he attended Owensboro Catholic High School. After attending Bellarmine, Clark worked for General Electric and Southwire Rod & Cable. But it was after he met and married Carolyn, that Tony had the encouragement and support to try the real estate business. 40 years later, we honor Tony Clark's legacy, and we look forward to the future!

10 mistakes to avoid on moving day

or millions of Americans, the turn of seasons means it’s time to tackle the big move. Whether you’ve purchased a new home or are changing apartments, moving is a lot of work - both physically and mentally. By planning ahead, packing smart and moving safely, you can avoid some of the most notorious moving day mistakes. “AAA shares a longstanding commitment to driver safety with Penske, which is especially important during the spring and summer moving season,” says Scott Denman, AAA, vice president, Financial Services and Discounts & Rewards. To streamline your moving day, avoid these top mistakes and feel great about entering your new home sweet home:
MISTAKE: Renting the wrong size truck
In general, allow 150 cubic feet of truck space for each fully furnished room. For example, a 12-foot truck offers 450 cubic feet while a 26-foot truck offers 1,400 cubic feet for your items.
MISTAKE: Packing items too early or too late
Begin with out-of-season and nonessential items several weeks prior to move day. Donate or sell anything you won’t use at your new home. Pack essentials like personal necessities and basic cookware the day before or morning of moving day.
MISTAKE: Damaging breakable items
Poor packing can cause items to break during the move. Plan ahead and have plenty of paper and bubble wrap on hand. Towels, socks and other soft materials are great for packing breakables as well.
MISTAKE: Reserving a rental truck too late

While stocks and funds depend highly on market swings, forestland requires only sun and rain to provide asset growth. However, the key to maximizing financial and recreational returns depends on proper management-and that requires more than just Mother Nature. Knowing how to manage a large piece of land can be overwhelming to a new investor or a person who may have inherited land from family. It’s important to consider the investment potential. Some common questions include: • Should you harvest any timber? From what areas?

According to recent data from the National Association of Realtors, sellers using an agent earn $40,100 more per transaction. The median sale price for the 88 percent of sellers who worked with an agent was $215,000, versus a median sale price of $174,900 for the 9 percent of sellers who didn’t use

New homes are getting smaller

F
rom the early 1990s to the beginning of this centur y, “bigger is better” certainly was the mantra of the home-building industr y. All across Nor th America buyers could browse among home developments boasting homes of 3,000 square feet or larger and multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. But according to new data, home buyers are seeking less space today but more in green amenities. Research by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association has found that many people now desire smaller homes with multipurpose rooms and energy saving features. They’re not ready to trade in their two- and threecar garages just yet, though. Plus, a sur vey of International Furnishings and Design Association members forecasts that McMansions will become a thing of the past and more emphasis will be placed on smaller, more eco-
friendly homes. Family rooms will grow larger, as will kitchens. Other rooms in the home will disappear, including the living room. Many homeowners and potential home buyers realize that with girth comes a cost. In today’s fragile economy, the ability to cash in on the dream of homeownership may come at the compromise of a smaller, betterplanned home. According to Tim Bailey, the manager of Avid Canada, a research and consulting firm for the building industry, “While many consumers are willing to forgo space, they are not equating this with having to forfeit functionality. Design creativity is requisite to adapt to this changing preference.” Here are some things that you will and will not find in newer homes moving forward. • The dining room is becoming extinct, with larger, eat-in-kitchen/ enter taining spaces the norm. The kitchen will be the main room of the

home and be renamed the “kitchen lounge.” • Separate rooms are evolving into spaces that serve many different purposes. • Although the sizes of bathrooms may be scaled back, the amenities will not. Spa-style bathrooms with luxurious products, high-tech features and televisions will be on the rise. • The master bedroom suite may not shrink in size, but it could be combined to form a home office and exercise space. • Expect to see more high-tech of ferings, such as voice- or motionactivation devices in the home. Lighting, entertainment gear, heating/cooling systems, and even blinds could be hooked up to a master control system. • Thanks to an increasing number of people working from home, the presence of a dedicated home office is a given in newer homes. Nearly 40 percent of industry forecasters say that they expect one in every home.
• Home storage solutions will also be a vital component of new homes. Builders will create clever solutions for mixing storage into more compact spaces. • With aging Baby Boomers comprising a larger segment of home buyers, expect to see more one-level homes, or at least homes where there is a master suite and the majority of the living space on the first level. Part of what is driving this trend is the cost of homes in relation to space and the increased interest in environmental conser vation. Smaller, more efficient homes require less in terms of heating and cooling energy. They need less furniture, and new materials made from sustainable products help further fuel green initiatives in the building industry. Energy efficient homes are a main priority for buyers. Although the homes may be smaller, they will not be miniscule. And home buyers can expect a host of amenities that will make the smaller size of homes barely perceptible.
