Fair festivities back for another year

This year’s event features monster trucks, talent show, tractor pull, fireworks BY JODI KEEN

A summer highlight for Daviess County is the annual Lions Club Fair. Filled with games, rides, food, exhibits, pageants and shows, the fair offers fun for the whole family. The fair kicked of f July 5 with a weekend of pageants. Prizes were awarded in the Miss Pre-Teen, Miss Daviess County, Miss Teen Beauty and Little Mister & Miss pageants, as well as the baby and toddlers contests. Festivities will pick back up July 14 with the Open Fun Horse Show at 6 p.m. in the fairgrounds small arena. 4-H, FFA, garden, crops, hay and honey exhibits begin July 17. The fair gets into full swing July 18, with the crowd-favorite Firefighter’s Challenge and drag racing. The pit par ty, 4-wheel/ATV mud racing and monster truck show are July 19’s highlights. July 20 will feature the first installment of the Battle of the Bluegrass truck and tractor pull, and the fair will wrap up July 21 with the children’s pedal tractor pull, a fireworks show and the second half of the truck and tractor pull. The full fair schedule is on pages 4-5. The Open Talent Show returns this year on the final night of the fair. Age groups are 6-12 years old and 13-21 years old for contestants, with the competition beginning at 6 p.m. July 21. The top three scores from the 13-and-up group will advance to the state finals in August in Louisville. See the full talent show schedule on page 3. Daily attractions include laser tag, Hawthorne’s Bazaar Circus, 4-H and garden exhibits, inflatables, carnival rides and vendors. Open talent show set for July 21

The 2018 Open Talent Show will be held Saturday, July 21 at Bittel Hall. The first age group will begin performing at 6 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per person.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Daviess County Fair is planned and conducted according to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture regulations for the use of state funds. All precautions possible will be taken by the Daviess County Fair to prevent accidents to any person, animal or property and to the destruction, loss or abuse of any property, or to any and all exhibits, but will not be liable for any accidents that may occur to any person, animal, property, or exhibit while at the fairgrounds. • Disorderly conduct of any kind is forbidden. Those indulging will forfeit their right to remain on the fairgrounds. • Police protection will be provided at all times. • Open classes are open to all persons or exhibitors unless otherwise specified. • No alcoholic beverages or drugs are to be on the fairgrounds. • Entries made in 4-H, FFA and FHA Classes must have been produced in conjunction with an approved project sponsored by these organizations. • All decisions made by judges and fair officials are final. • Dial 911 in the case of medical emergencies. • Announcements made on day of event take precedence over printed matter. • No firearms allowed.
