Thursday, October 25 Candidate Forum for City and County Office
Tuesday, October 30
Teachers in the Workplace is a Chamber program designed to make educators aware of the processes and expectations in current worksites and to demonstrate the connections between concepts learned in the classroom and the applications of these in the workforce. Teachers in the Workplace provides teachers with exposure to the conditions and opportunities available in the workplace in the greater Owensboro region. The program allows educators the opportunity to go on-site to tour local facilities and to talk directly with employers about their operations and expectations. Participants in the program have already visited both Sun Windows, Inc. and Swedish Match North America Inc. this fall. Additional employer visits will be scheduled for the group in November.

CHAMBER MATTERS
October Rooster Booster to honor National Manufacturing Month Owensboro Community and Technical College will sponsor Rooster Booster this Thursday, October 4 at 7:30 a.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center. Reser vations can be made online at chamber.owensboro. com or by calling the Chamber of fice at (270) 926-1860. Instead of its usual featured speaker, this month’s Rooster Booster will offer a panel discussion on the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce’s GO FAME program in recognition of National Manufacturing Month.
GO FAME is the Greater Owensbor o chapter of KY FAME (Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education), an Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program adopted from Toyota’s nationally recognized training program. In as little as 18 months, students can earn an industry-recognized, multi-craft technician associate’s degree through OCTC while gaining valuable experience while working in a manufacturing company. The practical skills gained can help pave the way to a full-time
job with the sponsoring employer or to a more advanced degree in manufacturing. Founding members of GO FAME are Owensboro Community and Technical College, Greater Owensboro Exconomic Development Corp., Castlen Welding and Manufacturing, Domtar, Hunter Douglas, Ken-tron Manufacturing, Kimberly Clark, Metalsa, National Office Furniture, Omico Plastics, Precision Roll Grinders, Sun Windows, The Hines Group, Toyotetsu Mid America (TTMA) and WPT Nonwovens. Learn more about the Chamber’s GO FAME program at owensboroworks.com/go_fame.
OCTC continues changing lives through education
O
wensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) has changed the lives of over 70,000 students in our region since it was established in 1986. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, it is one of sixteen colleges in the Kentucky Community & Technical College System. OCTC is a comprehensive public two-year college that values innovation, is focused on student learning, and is responsive to economic trends. Students are attracted by distinctive programs such as Veterinary Technology, cutting edge training in alternative fuels, and the first two-year online Healthcare Facilities Leadership program in the country. Many graduates transfer and
complete baccalaureate degrees through transfer pathways, as well. OCTC’s Workforce Solutions works with business and industry partners on training, testing, and developing customized programs. This includes modularized training that can be administered through multiple device platforms and the GO FAME work and learn model. OCTC’s Discover College is the umbrella of options for high school students to attend classes on an OCTC campus or take college classes at their high school. Early College students attending full-time during their junior and senior years of high school may graduate simultaneously with a high school diploma and an associate degree.
