3528 Dove Loop North is a classic 1970s ranch-style home: Three bedrooms, two baths, patchwork brick exterior, 1,131 square feet. Its cozy living room, rock gardens, and open concept dining room and kitchen employ comfortable design layouts popular in the post-war era. But unlike many of its peers in Audubon Acres, it’s built to meet a craftsman’s dreams. (More on that later.) After admiring the impeccable landscaping, step inside and settle into the well-lit living room. In the
kitchen, bar seating and extensive cabinetr y overlook the large dining area. Each bathroom features a bath/ shower combo, and each bedroom has ample space. Larr y Roberts has called 3528 Dove Loop North home since 2005. In that time, he has redone the dr ywall, added a pantr y, updated the bathroom vanities, applied new paint and trim, and installed new vinyl in the garage. The original popcorn-style ceilings were smoothed and painted, and the roof was replaced in 2016. Some original items remain, such as the wood-panel drop-down attic access and the accordion door closets.
Larr y says his favorite feature is the garage and workshop area, and it’s understandably so: His two-car detached garage includes two work benches with room for more, copious lighting and generous storage space. A double carport is positioned just before the garage entrance for covered storage space or additional parking. The single-vehicle carport directly alongside provides the perfect shelter for lawn equipment and projects in progress. And the single-car attached garage has been converted into a mud room and laundr y facilities with plenty of space for a sizeable ATV. (It also has
its own door to the exterior driveway and garage off Thrush Court.) Larr y says he enjoys that the property’s position along a dead-end street means less traffic, which adds to the neighborhood’s general quiet nature. Sidewalks and cul-de-sacs increase the safety of families playing and spending time outside. Like many residences on the far west side of Owensboro, this one too feels like a city property set amid the countr y.
