nspired by travel, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Beam built a unique, French countr y style home in the Lanewood Hills neighborhood off Reid Road. Thoughtfully designed, carefully built, exquisitely decorated and dutifully maintained, the Beam home has one of the most unique exteriors in Daviess County. Linda Beam said she was inspired by the stone and wood floors she saw English countr y homes, but was also interested in the French countr y look. Ultimately, she and her husband chose a plan by William Poole, the noted home designer and had that plan “transformed into French Countr y” by her son, who owns SJ Builders and constructed the home. Rather than a typical driveway, the home has a cour tyard entr y effect. The exterior of the home is Bedfor d stone. Beam purchased the solid wood front door from Louisville Architectural Salvage and had it restored, including the lion’s head that gives it a

regal air. The stone, the distinct front door, and a set of mirrored steps give the home a r eally unique curb appeal. Throughout the main floor of the home, black walnut floors contrast with clean, cream walls lit by the light that floods in from the numerous windows. The floor plan was designed with entertaining in mind. As you enter the home, a large formal dining room is to your left. The dining room has a remarkable bar rel ceiling from which dangles a sparking chandelier. The pairing of these two elements “sets the tone” of the home for those entering, says Beam. A lovely for mal living room with gas fireplace flows opens off that, and in turn opens into the spacious and amenityfilled kitchen. Cher r y cabinets, Thermador appliances, and granite countertops leave nothing of f a cook’s list of desires. A lovely eat-in area overlooks the lovely wooded lot. “We bought the lot with the woods in mind,” says Linda

Beam, explaining that an additional wooded lot is included with the home. Though the view from the casual eating area is nice, there is no better place to enjoy the view than the beautiful sunroom. Originally on the plans as a screened in porch, the sunroom has skylights, a bevy of windows, and one accent wall of the Bedford stone. Beam says she has the sunroom is her favorite room in the house. The upper level of the home has four bedrooms and two baths, each with roomy closets. The walkout basement level has

a full bath and a ton of room for additional casual living. The outside of the home just begs for big families and big parties to enjoy it. A large pool with automatic cover and wrought iron fence, an above ground hot tub and a fabulous knotty pine ceilinged covered porch creates an oasis of fun of relaxation. “It’s ver y quiet and peaceful” Beam says of the setting of the home. “You feel like you’re in the countr y, but you’re ten minutes from ever ything.” JoAnn Risner Risner Realty
