f you’re seeking a home with loads of attractiveness and comfort, look no further than 2526 Spencer Drive in Owensboro. crown molding and beautiful trim providing classic touches. You’re greeted by an “especially large” living room, which features a new fireplace insert with gas logs that helps keep the house cozy on cold nights. The dining room features a wall of perfectly-placed mirrors and a grand marble countertop that can be used for a large buffet-style dinner party. “There were nine people that sat around that room for Thanksgiving celebrations,” said Kathy Delaney, who owns the home. Delaney said one of her favorite features in the house is the “cheer y” and spacious kitchen, complete with leaded glass cabinets with blue tulip stained-glass designs inside, which match the blue-and-white walls. There is a half-bath off of the kitchen. On the second floor — which has its own air conditioning unit — there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom, which has a wonderful view of the neighborhood, offers two sizable closets. “Spencer Drive is really really beautiful in the springtime,” Delaney said. “Ever ybody has azaleas. The whole street is just gorgeous.” French doors from the house lead to a nice-sized screened back porch with a tile floor that’s perfect for get-togethers, small cookouts or just finding a place to unwind after a long day. The home has plenty of storage space, both in the basement — which can also be used as a casual living space — and in the two-car attached garage. The beautiful backyard is full of holly bushes and trees, with a black-gated courtyard off of the covered porch — an excellent space to be able to have pets roam around and play. Slipcovers can be changed each season to dramatically alter the look of a dining room for little investment. Slip covers also protect chairs and can be easily laundered after spills. • ADD FLOATING SHELVING. Floating shelves provide much-needed storage or display space without the need to invest in another piece of furniture. It might be time to say “so long” to that large curio cabinet and the knickknacks within it. Curio and china cabinets used to be de rigueur, but plenty of people now prefer more open and airy dining rooms. For those who want to keep the cabinet, try decluttering inside to only include the very best display pieces and see if the cabinet can be refinished with paint or a lightly colored stain. • IMPROVE LIGHTING. Make the chandelier the statement piece of the space. Go for a bold color or an innovative design. Then add accessories throughout the space that coordinate with the chandelier. • ADD BENCH SEATING. Those who need additional seating may not have to get entirely new furniture. Swap out some chairs for benches, which can fit a couple more guests than chairs. • CREATE DEPTH with color. HGTV says that using various shades of the same color in a space can add depth. Coordinate drapes, walls, fabrics, and accessories for a cohesive design.
