create a stunning sense of contrast. “The bricked-in wall that surrounds the fireplace was here when we moved in, and we painted it black,” Dennis said. “It really draws your eye when you enter the room.” Connected to the great room is a bar area, bordered by black columns. A stone backdrop sets the stage for the main room bar, and cherry-red cabinets create a throwback effect. The bar countertops are solid surface with the appearance of granite and a slight hint of glitter. The home’s eclectic feel is continued in the kitchen, where guests will be charmed by the stand-alone island with cherry-red cabinet walls, white cabinets and stainless appliances, black mesh fabric window shade, orange accent wall, and a desk area that looks like it came straight out of Architectural Digest. The dining room overlooks the pool area, with a double door and tall windows on either side. The first spare bedroom has a Murphy bed, gorgeous wooden black blinds, and laminate flooring. The third bedroom has a ceiling fan made of glass disks that have a circular appearance, a custom closet, and mirrored closet doors. The second full bathroom is shared by these two bedrooms, and is quite spacious, with a double vanity, a shower/tub combination, and tiled flooring. A row of cylindrical fixtures provides ample lighting over the vanity, and the white cabinetry pairs nicely with the gray and white countertops. The outdoor living space is phenomenal, with an in-ground pool, a flat screen television mounted on the brick wall that encloses the patio, and wrought iron fencing. It’s easy to envision lazy days spent lounging at the pool or enjoying an evening barbecue with friends while catching the latest sporting event on the outdoor television. Wash and winterize windows

Washing away dir t and water marks from your windows and screens gives you a clear view of the outdoors and lets in more natural light. It will also make your home feel lighter and brighter, keeping cabin fever at bay. And to help maintain a controlled climate inside the home, prevent air from leaking in or escaping by using weatherstripping or caulk around your windows. You’ll stay cozy inside and save money on your energy bill.

Check and replace your |acuum bag, filter and belt

A full vacuum bag, clogged filter or broken belt can hinder your vacuum’s effectiveness, leaving dirt, dust and allergens behind. Replacing your vacuum bags ever y 1-2 months, filters ever y 3-6 months and belts once per year is recommended to help your vacuum achieve peak per formance. o counter generic new construction projects, many cities and towns are conver ting older structures into vibrant tech offices, loft-style residences and even art institutions -- a process known as “adaptive reuse.” As midcentury facilities designed for once-humming industries are finding new leases on life, cities are retaining their architectural character. What’s more, adaptive reuse can be an eco-friendly option. By avoiding demolition of existing structures, architects reduce the amount of waste generated by the project. In many cases, it’s also more time-efficient than demolition and reconstruction, both in terms of the physical construction and the permitting processes involved. Striking examples of such renovation projects include the Pinterest headquarters in San Francisco. Designed by the team of IwamotoScott Architecture with Brereton Architects, the space is in the former John Deere factory in the city’s South of Market district. Pinterest’s mission of connecting people through shared interests is echoed in the design of the

renovated four-story factory building, whose main feature is a central staircase that knits its floors together. An atrium in the former factory was expanded through to the ground floor, turning the stairs into a light well that illuminates the oncegloomy first level.
