Iowa Home Sales and Prices Continued to
Increase in September
CLIVE, IOWA (Oct. 17, 2011) – Home sales were up while prices decreased slightly throughout Iowa in September, according to the Iowa Association of Realtors®’a8 (IAR). The IAR’s 2011 September Housing Trends Report shows the total number of homes sold in September was up 20.9 percent, with 501 more sales than last year at this time. IAR reports that 2,896 homes sold/closed in September 2011, while 2,395 homes sold/closed in September 2010. According to the IAR, pending sales throughout the state last month were up 8.3 percent from the previous year, while new listings were down by 7.4 percent. IAR also reports there were 24,464 active residential listings across Iowa at the end of September. The statewide average sale price decreased very slightly, down 1.7 percent from last year. The average sale price in Iowa was $144,026 in September 2011 and $146,525 in September 2010. “‘d2For buyers, the dream of home ownership still exists and now is the time to recognize that dream with historic record low interest rates and home pricing comparable to the early 2000’s,”’d3 says Kurt Schade. “‘d2For sellers, the po ol of buyers is typically lower this time of year. However, due to the uncertain future of our economy, it may ‘cost’ sellers more to wait than to sell now.”’d3 Average days on the market in September increased by 9.4 percent from last year. The average number of days on the market in September 2011 was 105, up 9 days from September 2010. Thirty-six of the 44 local boards and reporting sites across Iowa reported increases in the number of sales and 23 boards reported increases in average sale price from September 2010. Fourteen boards showed a decrease in the average number of days on the market. All real estate is local. A. The
material your stain is on will determine the mode of treatment. Laminate tops are unfortunately the least resistant to certain stains. If no amount of counter top cleaner gets it out, it is probably there to stay. Replacement of the area is your only recourse. If you are fortunate enough to have a solid surface material, then sanding the stain with a scotch bright pad will do the trick. Granite, quarts and other natural stone are virtually immune to stains.

We have a sewer smell in our home. There are no apparent leaks and the drains are not leaking. The smell starts after a bath or late at night.
Plumbing fixtures have a water “trap” to prevent sewer gases from rising thru the fixture into the building. If a vent pipe is missing or plugged or poorly installed the water can be siphoned out of the trap. Filling the trap with water will stop the smell. • Vents out the roof can be plugged by bird nests and rodents in the pipe or frost over in the winter. • Vent pipe risers can be broken in the walls or drains lines split along the top of the pipe allowing the air out without leaking. • Water in unused fixture traps will dry out.

A. If there is any way to change the slope of the roof
and use shingles or some other steep slope roofing materials that is the best option. If that doesn’t work, a rubber membrane roof is probably the best option. There are Styrofoam panels that can be used to add slope to the roof prior to the installation of the rubber membrane. Even 3-4” of additional slope will help prevent further leaks.
