H Ahmed Hammad is an architect and conceptual designer born and raised in Alexandria the beautiful coastal city of Egypt. A pencil, rubber and a sharpener; those were the essential tools which followed him around as a child whilst he imagined, designed and drew his perfect dream house. So it was inevitable that he would pursue a career in design. However, it was only until recent experiences that choices were narrowed down to becoming an architect. Ahmed studied architecture at Alexandria University and graduated in 2007 and later on 2013 he obtained a master degree in Architecture from the unique school of the BAUHAUS in Germany with an exchange semester within the walls of the ell known Politecnico Di Milano University in Italy. The 33 years old architect was lucky enough to work in three different countires Egypt, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. It helped him to have further and deeper understanding of the different aspects of architecture and exposed him to different cultures which allowed to build an adaptability to any environment. Ahmed’s design philosophy centres around creation of architectural projects inspired by local culture , heritage and identity , with an approach that combines technology with the natural environment and strong integration of architecture with landscape, he was able to implement these aspects in residential buildings, public spaces, hotel complexes, cultural buildings and educational buildings in the GCC region and Egypt, his continuous passion for the culture and identity reflects on his architectural designs and drawings.

The goal of the project was to design iconic residential towers which represent the dynamic movements and free lines of cars since DAMAC Properties was so curious to develop a new series of residential towers with new service which is allow its residence to live along with their precious cars which it will be your daily view from your living across the new Dubai creek canal. Ferrari is one of the most famous sportive and luxurious car manufacturer will be the branding of those towers and based on that the lines and curves used in the design were inspired and captured from the Ferrari famous series of sportive cars which can be noticed easily in the curves and balconies and the over all views of the towers.

The site is bounded in the rear by the Gowanus Canal; tidal wetlands protected by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and was home to an abandoned auto repair shop, former petroleum bulk storage tanks, and masonry yard when Monad purchased it in 2003.

Our vision for the DIFC Omniyat project is to create a live / work/ play environment emphasized by values of culture and heritage through innovative design. The design calls for a careful study of all programmatic conditions to ensure a unique approach with exceptional character to achieve maximum efficiency without compromising on quality. The architecture is unique, modern, geometric and pure. Our target is to create an environment and architectural language that is of contemporary image, scale and character. It should promote a stimulating and dynamic sense of place for its inhabitants and become a new destination in DIFC.

DEVELOPING THE PATTERN
DIFC Tower stems from Dubai’s rich heritage of its early settlements to the rapidly growing new society recognized by its now world-class status. The architecture embodies this dialogue of the old with the new, emerging from the ground up, vertically expressing growth. The ground, the foundation of any development, supports the structures above. Similarly, a culture exists historically from its heritage and its past. Here in DIFC Tower, the ground reminds us of an early settlement, with its small structures organically arranged together. The podium levels, elevated on stilts, is the unity of the diverse cultures of Dubai, forming the new city. The towers above, almost reaching the sky, represent the new and dynamic city. All these elements are unified by the honeycomb pattern, derived from a traditional mashrabiya, is carried throughout, expressing the values of its people which live on.

G R O W T H
Growth for any city is the driving force for success and survival. Not only is growth necessary for an expanding city’s population, but it is a symbol of hope and pride. DIFC Towers exemplifies growth through the tectonics of its elements emerging from the ground up. The base which carries many more historical characteristics of an ancient town, sets the tone of the rest of the tower above. As a second tier, the podium exemplifies Unity, where Dubai more specially embraces diversity and new cultures. The Tower above look towards the future, resting on it its history and rich heritage. Heritage plays an important pat in any community, no matter the culture. It binds itself into the identity of a nation, reflecting its rich history and ultimately giving purpose for the current landscape of a city. Dubai is proud of its rich heritage which stem from early settlements eventually transforming its shores in the early century as one of the important ports of the region. Architecture has traditionally celebrated the heritage. DIFC towers not only recognizes the importance of this history through an understanding of early architectural elements, such as the courtyard but also the influences of Persian heritage form its early settlements.

As the tower has different kinds of functions we had an idea to play with the massing of each function to make it signeficat, each mass represents a different function shifts in an opposite direction rovides a dramatic look from the 4 different angle. The challenge was mainly towards the structure however we worked with well knwn engineers who developed several systems to help us achive our design vision.

As the tower is located in one of the prominante areas within Dubai with very interesting views of the city horizons we wanted to secure a floor to celling windows to ensure the most amount of views and at the same time a generous amount of sun light, however we wanted to reduce the direct sun light and the amount of heat as well as adding some privacy to the residence therefore we created these sun-light breakers with a slight inclination on the glass-

Since the tower mass is divided into 5-4 different masses which diffrentiate the different functions of the tower, the vertical circulation is also been designed to segregate and confirm these different functions , this segregation provides privacy to each and every function . The vertical lifts are divided and segrogated at the ground floor, Set of lifts that goes all the way to the hotel lobby, hotel rooms passing by the Podium and parking and another set of lifts dedicated only to the residence of the tower starts from the ground floor as well all the way to the pent house floors at the very top of the tower.

The firist winning of the Ministry of Culture national architectural competition for the museumification of the President Gamal Abdel Nasser house in Cairo. The project mainly aims to conserve the house of the former president and reuse of some spaces for museum display and exhibition purpose. The museum scenario treated three different aspects of Abdel Nasser life through the reuse of the different spaces of the house. Some spaces where conserved for their highly historical values, while other where reused as museum galleries. The central courtyard was transformed into a museum foyer around which all services and itineraries were organized. project are devided into 3 visit paths: 1-st path leads to the “Guest Area” which consists of the main saloon and another saloon beside the winter saloon beside that there is the main office of the former president where he used to meet his visitors and leaders at that time. 2-nd path leads to an area we used to call “He made history” where visitor can witness different eras and main events and decesions during the period of his presidency. 3-rd path leads to the “collectibles hall” where visitor can take a close look on the private belongings of the former president of medals,decorations,letters and others.

The Idea was to reuse the spaces of the house to be a living museum, therefore we changed the main entrance of the house and we used another entrance for the museum which was the kitchen area,it was very big as marked with the blue colour and it would be reused in any case. we wanted to create and wise reception area for entrance and exit and waiting plus a gift shop and security arches which wasn’t not available if we used the main entrance,beside the foyer is the start and the end pint of the project so we wanted to make the next step after the reception is to be the foyer. The foyer is the main spot in this project. Musemification has some options and rules to follow,like giving the visitor a walkthrough that he must follow till the end if he want to see all sections of the museum.In this case we gave the visitor a chance of making his choice according to the tour he reserved and where he want to start his tour . The foyer is the gathering point after the reception and the check in points. At the foyer the journey will start, Visitors have 3 choices,3 paths to follow,all of them start and end at the foyer. In the house there are some places with a quite small area which can’t take big numbers of visitors at the same time like the private office of the president and the saloons area, therefore during the design process in addition to create a waiting area, we thought about how the tours will be organised?,the Foyer has solved this problem by avoiding the full areas by starting another path of the other 2 which is not going to affect on the visit scenario, for example the area of the president office and the saloons are full which are in the visit path 1,in that case visitors can be advised by the reception that instead of wasting time waiting for the path visit 1 to be available they can start their tour with the 2nd path and then go to the 1st one if it was available,if not they can finish up the 3rd path and then gather in the foyer which is already the end point of all paths and then wait for the 1st path to be free it sit was still not available.

H After 10 years of practicing architecture and design, swinging the pendulum back and forth between the architecture of the symbolism and its theories and pushing the pendulum back to the needs for innovation, technology and free forms of today’s world, Ahmed decided to take a step back and over look his work and focus at the present architecture and technology with a look towards the future, and the conclusion settled down in his mind was the Lack of humanity within the architecture of today and tomorrow. When people hear the word “Architecture of Future” thoughts are defined by technology usage to create more free form, more high rise towers, more robotic architecture, Architecture of outer space and so on but not much of what’s really addresing going to happen based on today’s conflicts and events. No. of refugees and asylum seekers are increasing day by day, Global warming and climate changes are affecting the globe, creating more natural catasrophics leaving millions without shelters or places to stay, and from here Ahmed felt the need of focusing more on the term of “Architecture for Humanity”, Practical ways to design spaces and places to live, sustainable spaces with less consumptions to building materials and thermal loads and recycled materials for establishing houses and places to live. Human Scale buildings and shapes with cummunity spaces for people to get back and cummunicate with each other.

Sheltainer is a project which has a deep vision that targets an important human aspect, solving a problem specifically for low-income families, students and refugees with simple yet accurate design for better humanity using shipping containers. Achieving such principle is one of the highest success in our professional career. After winning the 2nd prize in Future House: MICRO HOUSE and being highly commended in MEAA in 2017, we decided not to stop and move forward with the idea to complete the project’s vision. We are proud to say that Sheltainer was nominated in the world architecture festival “Future Project-Competition & won the WAFx Ethics & value” which highlights the value behind our goal. The concept is based on Micro-housing solution which targets the less fortunate. Last year we focused on the micro-scale challenge by analyzing the simple human needs that can solve the crisis in the 3rd world countries. This year we took it to the next step with a new hope where we looked at the big picture and shifted from Micro to Macro challenge. This is a real story with events derived from everyday life where the heroes of this story are children, women, and men with Egyptian features. The events of the story portray a painful reality that goes beyond the problems of the random living situation of a poor man. Imagine a place that embraces the living dead in larges spaces that are spread apart in Cairo.

People are connected to their homeland. Growing in an environment with family and friends fuels their souls with promising future. Unfortunately, not everyone is being that lucky. Being forced out due to starvation, economy or even politics started to create phenomena of insecurity. 20 people are newly displaced every minute of the day which became a challenge of providing a stable community that copes with rapid changes

Sheltainer is a project which has a deep vision that targets an important human aspect, solving a problem specifically for low-income families, students and refugees with simple yet accurate design for better humanity using shipping containers. Achieving such principle is one of the highest success in our professional career. After winning the 2nd prize in Future House: MICRO HOUSE and being highly commended in MEAA in 2017, we decided not to stop and move forward with the idea to complete the project’s vision. We are proud to say that Sheltainer is nominated in the world architecture festival “Future Project-Competition & won the WAFx Ethics & value” which highlights the value behind our goal. The concept is based on Micro-housing solution which targets the less fortunate. Last year we focused on the micro-scale challenge by analyzing the simple human needs that can solve the crisis in the 3rd world countries. This year we took it to the next step with a new hope where we looked at the big picture and shifted from Micro to Macro challenge. The regularity and richness of the annual Nile River flood, coupled with semi-isolation provided by deserts to the east and west, allowed for the development of one of the world’s great civilizations. A unified kingdom arose circa 3200 B.C., and a series of dynasties ruled in Egypt for the next three millennia. The last native dynasty fell to the Persians in 341 B.C., who in turn were replaced by the Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines. It was the Arabs who introduced Islam and the Arabic language in the 7th century and who ruled for the next six centuries.
EGYPTIAN PARADIGM OF LIFE AND DEATH: There was life after death in Egypt. From the pharaoh to his humblest servant, every Egyptian believed in the afterlife. The need for scientific evidence of life after death was unheard of.Ahmed Wants to Regenrate this paradigm and look for a brighter vision and a new after life for the Future of his home Country. TIMELINE VS. LIVING GRID The accumulation of time has made architecture and people live in a concrete form. Winding alleys and houses, air conditional devices, TV satellites, drainage and waterpipes, signboard-filled building facades .... etc, the repetition of this kind of architeture makes urban fabric loses our remaining architecture fundamentals waves , and in the other hand you can find another example of simple communities like Gourna , they built their urban environment and left vestiges of their daily life to be imprinted and remembered. With an estimated one million inhabitants, Cairo’s huge slum, Manshiet Nasser, sits on the rocks where Egypt’s Eastern Desert plateau meets the Nilevalley. In Cairo and other megacities that are home to millions of urban poor.slums typically develop on wasteland or the most precarious environmental zones. Unstable, sub-standard housing in areas that lack any formal provision of services

From the Egyptian perspective sustainable development is a multidimensional concept, involving no less than seven dimensions. Sustainable development is viewed as the mutually beneficial interaction between the legitimate interests of business and the economy, government and the politics, and civil society and culture. However, these societal interactions do not exist in a vacuum. On the physical and material side, society is bounded by the carrying capacity of the varied ecosystems, landscape ecology, and ultimately the biosphere of the earth, of Nature. On the psychological and spirtual side, the threefold functional differentiation of society is contextualized by the caring capacity of individuals .

Ambitious city-scale projects are vulnerable to multiple risks related to economic feasibility, livability and a lack of dynamism, as has been demonstrated by many post- World War II and post-colonial new cities. New cities offer unparalleled opportunities to experiment with innovative ideas, learn from past mistakes, reproduce the beauty and energy of established cities and integrate technologies from the earliest stages.

The goal is to build a world class research institute from scratch on the edge of the desert that would contain state-of-art facilities and would act as an example of sustainable design. The University shall be one of the most attractive and outstanding scientific centres in the world that excel in creativity, innovation, and scientific research in specific strategic fields to support development and the national economy. After the evaluation of several zones in Egypt, Qattara Depression was selected based on the potentials of this zone Such as Connectivity, Climate, natural resources, ease of access, topography and traffic distance to the main two capitals beside the site Potentials as a new source of water and energy in order to develop this Zone and to create a node/point of attraction to act as an iconic urban development that can lead Egypt to a new era of quality, sustainability ,development and civilization.ÂťNew EgyptÂť. The Qattara Depression is a Desert Basin Within The Libyan Desert of North-Western Desert of Egypt. The Depression is at l 33m Below Sea Level contains the 2nd lowest point in Africa and 3rd in the world .Area is 20000sq km ,80 Km length and l20 km Width ,and its bottom consists of salt Pan. Filling the Depression with water by digging a 73 km Canal from the Mediterranean sea to form an artificial lake which will be able to act as a new source of water parallel to the Nile which will give an opportunity to start a new community and use the vast desert spaces and exit the narrow corridor of the Nile.

The concept based on designing the spaces to be in shade most of the time and try to avoid the direct sun rays to the buildings.
STATE OF THE ART INSTITUTE The most important thing in designing in such environment is the sun and and its direct rays and temperature and that›s why I get back to the old Arabic traditions of getting ultimate use of the environment. Design lines for the project were inspired by the surrounding environment and its criteria since nature is the mother of inspiration. The surrounding areas are deserted areas with a spacious space of rocks and sand dunes. Out of those marvellous creative lines, My design lines were inspired, since lines can have several functions in forming the buildings and its landscape. A line can start as a landscape and passing by to be a structure of a certain ramp ending by

They allow minimal sun-exposure and therefore compactness and shade are the main principals for building in hot-arid zones. They receive minimum radiation, break stormy winds, but allow through ventilation and adequate natural lighting. A new approach has been developed, ÂŤTraditional Neighbourhood Development (TND)Âť, featuring a pattern of narrow streets that encourage pedestrian and bicycle travel, and produce less storm-water run-off. Courtyards essentially promote airflow within and around buildings. It was a simple design to enhance daylight availability in every room. Daylight, being a cool source of Light, further reduces the cooling load. The central courtyard provides more energy efficient and environmentally suitable buildings . Also, they reduce solar radiation and at night, trees work against natural cooling by blocking long-wave radiation. Wind Catchers catch cold air from the higher elevation of the atmosphere and direct it through vertical passages into the interior spaces. It is a necessity to lower the internal building temperature. Water evaporation can be deployed to lower air temperature through the passages. In dry climates, water-filled pottery is places in the passage, to assist in enhancing the climate. They decrease the noise levels in the interior spaces.

The time of fashion is over, people tired of the always new, the rotations of consumption. We fall back into our seat tired from the noise of our time, to shut our eyes and ears. Before fashion there was crafts. ‘’Old is Gold’’, regular words on people mouth despite technology and time travelling thoughts through the future, Fashion is always related to the past. Sunglasses and its classic basic shapes are my target through this product to ensure for the customer a design inspired from the letters of the firm name ‘’ic’’ forming the main continuous line which is shaping the frame of the glasses.

H There is nothing more delightful in one’s career than having the opportunity to start his own studio and produce the outcomes that he is more passionate about. For Ahmed, architecture is always a piece of art that needs to be felt and expressed in certain ways, working within offices and cooperates didn’t give him a big chance to express his deep passion. on another note he noticed how the importance of the architecture marketing and visualization sides, they were an inspritation for him, an intresting way for a better communication between the architects, clients and more importantly the end user. At the 1st quarter of 2019 Ahmed decided to establish his own studio “METAPHOR-X” under the slogan of “A tale of art beyond creativity” focusing on creating and communicating different stories behind the architecture designs .
