A few days before this was shot we spent a solid few hours at the hospital while he got stitches. He basically scalped about a quarter of his hair off trying a pole jam over a bridge. Long story short he came up short and landed in the bridge and pinballed his head between the posts. This was the first spot he hit after that night - ollie disaster with little snow and a sketchy run-in. The future is bright in snowboarding with kids like this this! Side note: the graffiti on the wall roughly translates to something like, “You have as many chances as you have courage.” Seems pretty fitting. Cover photo and words: Bob Plumb

You know when you leave for a ten-day trip and you suddenly realize that you forgot more than just your toothbrush. Soon the pair of socks you have on your feet have become part of you, literally. It’s not pretty at all at the end.

Obviously, HOW YA DOIN’?!? (Sean Callaghan) How ya doin’, how ya doin’, how ya doin’, HOW YA DOIN’! We are approaching the release of your fourth full video, How Ya Doin. Makes you like a regular fucking Spielberg now, huh? Yeah man, only about 3.6 billion in net worth difference. It’s actually our sixth video - we made two before the Ice Coast Kills Shit name. They were pretty rough, but we’re still proud of ‘em. All still filmed in New York? All RED cam footage this year? 100% filmed in NY, baby! And yep, all RED: A few heli shots, dolly tracks, stabilizing gimbals - the whole shabang. Just kidding! It’s all shot on the same 7D as the other videos. Have you learned anything through the movie making process? You have to love it because there’s no real money in it. Your compensation is good times, great friends and bad knees. Finish this sentence: To avoid the collected heap of Internet videos, a film should feature more... Funny shit. Most videos and crews take themselves way too seriously. How many of y’all are there? Where are you based? We’re from all over New York state but in the winter we’re based out of Hunter, New York. The ICKS fam runs deep - a lot of extended family - but the main dudes who’ve always been filming and out missioning are myself, Matt and Adam Soranno, Joe Bauer, Erich Stefanzick, Buddy Pendergast, Adam Anderton, John Haynes, Mark Bondi, Colton Boehlke, Jameson Lecomte, Tim Bloom, Chuck Branciforte, Christian Batthany, Eric Buczek and Jasper Kahn. One NY Rangers jersey to rule them all? Buddy says, “You can’t go wrong with the classics like Messier, Leetch or Richter.” However, I have to go for Dan Cloutier for the best goalie fight in hockey history, hand032

Or sometimes just a good smack in the face - how ya doin’.” How important has the Carvefather been for the founding of ICKS? Can we talk about this wild man for a minute? (laughs) The Carvefather is a Hunter Mountain local. His real name is Ron, he’s from New Jersey and he rides an alpine board and blasts house techno in his headphones while carving up Huntah. You can spot him by the custom jacket he’s always rocking. It has his logo on it, which is The Godfather movie logo, altered to say The Carvefather with an Italian Flag incorporated into it. Google “The Carvefather” for some visuals. Top 3 rowdiest snowboard films of all time, according to ICKS… Numskull, Dingbat and Knucklehead. Ha! Fuhggedaboutit. What reactions did you get on the Internet for the handplant at the Keith Harring mural? People thought it was rad. I was actually surprised more people didn’t freak out, you know, with Colton hand planting an iconic piece of NYC pop-art. There were two young art students who showed up at one point while we were getting the shot however and it looked like they were going to have a heart attack. Are New Yorkers pissed off all the time or do they just have a hard time showing their love? Pissed. What’s it to you? Come here, come here… get outta here! Has Joey B ever worked as a doorman? He could be huge! He thought about it once but then he just fuhgotaboutit. How ya doin’, bye! P H O T O S : S E A N C A L L AG H A N

You guys seem to live a sort of commune life in Andorra. What is JKD, exactly? More of a tribe or an open commune? We are all jib kung do. It’s the theory against evolution, time and fashion changes. Through it all, we remain the same. We are all JKD. Well, at least everyone can be. We are from Andorra, Spain, Europe, worldwide… Some of us have almost forgotten where we are from. 5 verbs to describe the crew? I think three is enough: joke, drink and smoke.
POSSE PAGE
If you were stranded in the woods for the night, and were able to have just one thing delivered to you, but in endless quantity, what would you request? Beer. Does JKD have its own currency? Respect.
Big ol’ backside blaster from Pepe Sanchez
If you were given 100 Euro, how would you imagine your crew spending it? 50€ beer and 50€ on a good sativa, paper and tobacco. Do you all live under one roof? Yeah, for sure, sometimes we have the whole crew together plus girlfriends and all that. Our house has a rotating door where you can come back in any time you want. Are snowboard crews outcasts in Spain? Snowboarding is really small in Spain. It’s all about soccer here. There are a couple of great crews and snowboarders in Spain and we all respect each other.
For the homies
Why is Roberto Carlos Menacho a working class hero? Pepino is a real Gypsy king. Normally in the snowboard scene you don’t have many people from the real ghetto, but he really is, and some of the rest of us are, too. Your last video, Finisterre, literally means “end of the land”. What comes after the end of the land? After the end of the land our new movie Overdose is what’s coming next. These days we are living a digital overdose - all about social media shit, random pictures or videos.
This one goes out to everyone living in a dude barn. Marc Salas, communal front lip

Back in the winter of 1987-’88, I was just getting started in photography, shooting mostly B&W, and some ski areas were starting to allow boarders on their mountains. Boreal Ski Area near Truckee/ Lake Tahoe was one of those early “ski area” pioneers and so was Tucker Fransen, pictured here in one of my earlier nighttime, halfpipe photos. Tucker was a member of the Grass Valley posse that started riding together in the mid-eighties and included other notorious riders like Chris and Monty Roach, Tina and Michael Basich, Devin Ryerson, Mike Jacoby, and so many others!.

DRAK NOR WAV KOH KUDO
These Laax recruits are dripping with style. It’s like they grew up riding with legends or something. Polished method in Airolo PHOTO: LUCA CRIVELLI
From where does your blood run? I’m Severin van der Meer, 22 years old. I was born in Zürich and live around there, but in the winter I make Laax my home base. I’m half Dutch but can’t speak it worth a damn.
Worst bloodshed? K.O. - front edge on a stair set. Don’t try to do this...
What’s in your blood? Getting those barrels, on snow or water. I’m really into camping and good times wherever it may be, whether it’s around a bonfire with the homies or up on the hill slashing some freshy.
Blood on my hands… I’m pretty guilty of being bummed on people who are always hating or aren’t happy with how things are at the moment. Just make the best out of it.
Who are your blood brothers? The Laax homies - love to hang with them. And it’s always an adventure with the Thogor boys. What gets your blood pumping? When I am standing on top of a pillow line and I’ve just won rock, paper, scissors! Hell yeah! If you were bleeding out, what would be your last mission? I would go for a scrambled egg, haha!
What makes your blood run cold? Natural disasters and their causes.
Got any bad blood? I hate those annoying mosquitos and flies! Who keeps the blood flowing? Definitely all the homies! Thanks to Shred Optics, Ride Snowboards, O’Neill, Laax, Slytech, POW Gloves and Snowboard Garage. And a big shout out to Blume Pictures! Written in blood… Keep on cruisin’.

From where does your blood run? My name is Kent Callister, 19 years old from Bend, Oregon, U.S.A.
FRESH MEAT
What’s in your blood? When I’m not snowboarding I like to skateboard and sail my boat “The Guppy D”. There’s nothing like a swift tack from the wind we know and love out on Paulina Lake. At the moment, I’m trying to rest my ankle for the season. I had a bad sprain from skateboarding two months ago and it still isn’t properly healed. But I think with the right kind of people and help my ankle will be good to go before the season starts. Who are your blood brothers? Jake Selover, Peter Jacobson, Seamus O’Connor, Quinton Jones and Nik Baden. What gets your blood pumping? When the backside of Mt. Bachelor opens on a bluebird day for the first time of the season and it has just snowed the night before. If you were bleeding out, what would be your last mission? If I was bleeding out my, last mission would be to try and ride a massive wave on a surfboard. I’ve been surfing a couple of times and have never caught a satisfying wave. So if I were to catch one, my life would be complete. Worst bloodshed? When I tore my hamstring skateboarding three years ago. I was skating a super slippery bowl and I came down to land from a trick and my back foot slipped off the board. I did the splits and that caused the hamstring in my front leg to tear almost off the bone. It took about 18 months for it not to hurt anymore but I don’t think my hamstring will ever be the same.
That’s the way to get ‘er north and south. Callister breaks one off for the Northwest youth.
What makes your blood run cold? Heights and snakes.

From where does your blood run? My name is Benny Milam. I’m 16, from Minnesota, and I ride at Trollhaugen.
Worst bloodshed? A couple summers ago I dislocated my hip skateboarding. My worst bloodshed, for sure.
What’s in your blood? I’ve been really into skateboarding, snowboarding and fishing my whole life. I basically grew up on a board, whether it was a skateboard or snowboard.
What makes your blood run cold? (Laughs) I really hate snakes and spiders. They scare the shit out of me, especially the big-ass ones.
Who are your blood brothers? All the Troll kids rule. There are too many to name. But the guys over at Cryptic Films, like Derek Combs and Dan Tyler, are the shit. All the boys over at The Impaler including Sam Duncan, Chris Duncan and Brett Spurr are also tight. What gets your blood pumping? Dropping into a big spot for the first time really gets the blood pumping. If you were bleeding out, what would be your last mission? Uh, that’s a tough one. If I was bleeding out my last mission would be to gather up all my shit (like snowboards, clothes, etc.) and give it to all my homies or donate it to charity so it would actually get used and not just sit there and rot.
Blood on my hands… I don’t really know of anything that I should feel guilty of… Got any bad blood? Nah, I’m not really bummed on anything. Who keeps the blood flowing? Capita, Union, Electric, Volcom, 1817, Crab Grab, Wild Mountain, Coal and adidas Snowboarding really keep the blood flowing. They are all the shit. Written in blood… Shout out to my parents for supporting me all these years and to everyone else who supports me.

If the Meribel park were an automobile, which one would it be? (Emmanuel Labadie) A concept car that everyone can drive! Area 43 is not only a snow park but a full concept, with a chalet to accommodate riders, media, clients and friends looking to live a unique snow experience at a premium resort in the French Alps. In your opinion, what separates a decent park from an outstanding park? The amount of time and work spent and invested on it, plus creativity, good machines and a bunch of shovels! How important is the support from the resort in building a great park? Since the winter of 2011-12, Area 43 has partnered with Meribel Mottaret to build the best platform for welcoming riders of all levels. The 7,800 feet of altitude and more than 24 snow cannons secure the snow cover the whole season long and ensure optimal quality for the features. That we are located in the world’s largest ski resort, where we have the famous Courchevel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens, is another asset. Meribel Mottaret not only provides great technical support all year long (preparation of the field during summer) but also communication and financial help through the Tourism Office for the main events of the season. A good partnership is largely based on human relation. The team from Meribel Mottaret (S3V ,Tourism Office) is great and very cooperative. Do you think park progression equals going bigger on features and jumps? No, it is more about creativity, diversity and accessibility for all levels. Our staff is always discussing with other builders the possibility of adding more skatepark-like features into parks: bowls, spines, jersey barriers, pyramid-type things, all sorts of transition. How feasible is such a thing and do you think it could catch on? It is feasible up to a certain point because accessibility for all levels is a priority. Tranny tapas platter and Marc Salas is bringing the eggplant PHOTO: AREA 43
How important is it to have shapers who are good at riding? It is important, of course, to have the best shapers who know how to ride and understand how parks and lines work. Benjamin Ravanel (European X Games superpipe shaper) and Nicolas Marduel (another great European shaper) have been involved in this adventure since the first year of our partnership to shape and take care of the park. They always want to improve the snow park, bring in new things and are on top of every detail. They are true perfectionists. How late in the season does the park generally remain open? End of April.

Ok, last words. What’s one thing you’d like to impress upon our readers? Come out and enjoy the ride!

Victor is a great snowboarder because he has a sense of style. He gets it. He puts style first and will continue to do so because that’s what lies at the heart of his passion for snowboarding. He learns, and continues to learn, from others and from himself, as he pushes further in the eternal quest for epicness and supreme style through dedication and commitment. He comes from a simple family, raised mostly by his mom and by his friends from Gap, a mountain town in the French Alps where he grew up with a band of boarders like Jean Jacques Roux, Bruno Rivoire and Ben ThomasJavid. It was with these guys that he began to fool around on a snowboard, as well as in school. But he’s always kept things simple. Snowboarding has given him pretty much everything he has. In the beginning, he was always in the shadow of better snowboarders, older or more covered by the media. It took him a few years of discovering himself and following others to finally come into his own: Victor Daviet, world class snowboarder, admired by his peers. Victor, you are a true friend to everyone. You keep going homie! Stay safe, and see you soon.

16.3 RORSCHACH
Here we go… Why do you skip breakfast on trips, opting to eat muffins in bed instead? I’m not very good at being a human at 6 a.m., so instead of getting breakfast with the rest of the crew, I tend to stay in bed and sleep for the extra 45 minutes. I don’t have an appetite that early in the morning, but I know I will be out in the elements all day, so I usually just drink a lot of coffee and choke down some baked goods. How do you feel about the nickname, “Muffin Crumbs”? Joel Fraser gave me that nickname. One morning he came back from breakfast and found me sleeping next to a pile of muffin crumbs. He started making fun of me, saying I got more of the muffin on my bed and on the floor than in my mouth. He thought it was really funny that I woke up, devoured a muffin like some kind of animal, and then fell asleep again. Tell us a bit about Easy Giant. You guys recently played some Absinthe premieres in the US this fall? Yeah, we followed the Absinthe crew around and played music after all the premieres on the West Coast. We played in San Francisco, Truckee, Portland and Seattle, and it was one of the most fun things I’ve done. It started 10 years ago when we used to call ourselves Mega Meat. We would play a live show once or twice a year just for fun, and our set list would be all cover songs. Last winter our lead guitarist and vocalist Chris Emmington wrote some really great original sounds so we ended up with the name Easy Giant and now we feel like a legit band. We are planning another tour right now. Check out our music on Spotify! What do you play in the band? I play the bass. They say the bass player never gets any of the chicks, and it’s true. Plus I have a girlfriend, so that doesn’t help. What album should everyone be spinning right now? “Sun Structures” by Temples. Or “I’m In Your Mind Fuzz” by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I’ve been loving the Aussie psych rock sound.
058
Is there any life left in another project of yours, Fuzz Lightyear? Fuzz Lightyear will never die. Even though Stan (from
METHOD16.3_RORSACH_BRANDON.indd 58
Yobeat) thinks it’s dead. I’ve got some new ideas brewing for that project. Do the Toys in Toy Story believe in God? Woody seems like he goes to church every Sunday. Buzz might have a different outlook since he is so well traveled. Which pinball machine would you die to have top score on and, in a dream world, which pinball machine would you own? I’ve had a few high scores on tables around Portland and Seattle, but they never last long. If you make the leader board on a popular table, chances are your score won’t be there the next day. There is a lot of pinball talent in the Northwest. In a dream world I would own “Fly High.” It’s the Never Ending Story pinball table - kind of the unicorn of pinball tables. Some say it doesn’t exist. Are there Comic Con-style pinball conventions? I’m not sure. Probably? There are a lot of pinball museums in the U.S. I went to a pinball museum in Austin, Texas and they had three stories of pinball machines. My girlfriend literally had to drag me out of that place. I probably spent $100 in quarters that day. A man on a solo drive to Alaska has a lot of time on his hands. Having completed such a feat, how would you suggest passing the time? Music, books on tape, racing other cars, pondering your entire existence… It’s easy to pass the time when you are averaging 90 miles per hour. Between Alaska and Canada is a place called Northern Territories, and the roads are so flat and open that 100 mph feels like 60. But you have to watch out for animals on the roads. The bison are 1,500 pounds, 10-feet tall, and they love to hang out on the warm roads when the sun is going down. Most inspiring thing Travis Parker ever told you? Travis taught me how to film a video part. He told me all you need to do is, “put action in the frame,” meaning give the people something cool to look at. It doesn’t matter what you do on your snowboard in front of a camera as long as you make it look fun and exciting. It’s not the spot that makes a shot cool; it’s the trick you decide to do and how you present it to the camera.
17.11.2015 12:29
Tips for scoring a free concert in Portland? It depends on where the show is but some of the techniques include jumping a fence, duplicating a stamp, sneaking in through a back door, pretending you work for the band and so on. The biggest thing to remember is there is always a secret back door entrance for the musicians. Find out where that door is and walk in like you own the place. How does it feel when your dog steals the show? Nanook is a 100 pound husky/lab mix and everyone loves him. I don’t get jealous when people say hi to him and not me. Sometimes I wish he could do all the talking. What’s the secret to solving a Rubik’s cube? Fastest time? It’s all patterns and fluid math. One time I got lucky and solved the Cube in under a minute, but that’s nothing compared to the pros. I think the world record is like four seconds or something. What’s the deal with the America vs. Canada drinking game? Briefly give us the scenario, game rules and who won. We were camping in the woods at the base of Mt. Hood and we decided to make up a game centered around the idea of USA vs. Canada. The game was simple. You had to chop a log in half with a hatchet as fast as you could and then shotgun a beer. Your time was recorded and added to the rest of your team’s individual times. It was a really close race but the Canadians won. I blame Brisse. He could chop a mean log, but could not shotgun a beer to save his life. On a scale of 1 to America, how free do you feel right now? North Korea. Which brands should we be supporting and last words? Support the brands that are not owned by major corporations and support your local skate and snowboard shops. Don’t buy your snowboards from places that sell baseball gloves. Thanks Method Mag for the awesome questions! And thanks to Capita Super Corp., Union, Airblaster, Coal, Anon, Deeluxe, Coalatree, EVO and Howl for supporting my snowboarding habit.

16.3 RORSCHACH
What is the worst bet you have lost during a game of Uno with the boys? Whoa, so many I can’t even remember. Those games, and the bets, are just part of our daily winter life. Well, here are a few of the losing outcomes: drinking schnapps, doing dishes, cooking, cleaning, waxing, carrying the boards and backpacks to the top of the resort for the other guys, having to tighten and release the boot laces of my friends at the beginning and end of the day, having to open the door to the toilets whenever anyone has to go in there, close it when he is done, carrying all the big shovels to the top of the resort and down, eating dinner blindfolded and without hands, buying rounds of drinks, riding down the resort switch with one foot strapped in, getting butt-slapped by the whole crew, getting the shittiest bed of the apartment, having to call Vlad from Absinthe and tell him we are going to his zone, eating dog food and so many more. You’re quite the joker, what’s the gnarliest prank you’ve played on a friend? Shat in a box and sent it to our Finnish friend Janne Lipsanen for Christmas.Janne’s dad wanted him to open the box at the same time as all the other family presents, but Janne had a feeling and thought he would open it in his room! It reeked for a week. God, I would I love to see his face! Janne is a legend - love him so much! We are all familiar with one of your brothers, Xavier, but you are one of five boys in the family, correct? Are you the youngest? Yes, and at some point all of them snowboarded. Some have continued to and some have stopped and chosen to study instead. The oldest is 12 years older than me. I’m the baby. Is that a good or bad thing? Lots of sympathy or lots of beat downs? (Laughs) No, it was a great time. As the little brother you are always playing tricks on them. It was really fun and I was stoked to have older brothers and guys to look up to. There was always someone to help you and always someone around.
060
You and Xavier charge some flat-out insane shit and it sounds like there are a few other De Le Rue rippers we haven’t even seen! Where does the craziness and
METHOD16.3_DELARUE.indd 60
intensity come from, mom or dad? We don’t know actually. Our mom has ridden a snowboard one day in her life and my dad has never ridden. They have a big ski shop in our home resort of Saint-Lary and have always worked so hard to give us the opportunity to do what we want. When we were kids they paid for us and then we quickly had sponsors and the sponsors were able to finance all that. Our parents just let us do what we wanted. They don’t really know that much about snowboarding but they are just proud that we are happy and doing what we do, even if they don’t know exactly what that is. Hope that answers your question? (laughs) Indeed, just wondering where that spark to defy death was kindled? We just want to do well in what we do and we are invested 200%. We just go step by step. When we started snowboarding, we’d see that there was a French Championship or something and it was like, “Sick. Let’s try to do that.” Then the year after, if we did well, we’d look for this or do that. I never had a big goal in my mind. I just thought, “OK, next year let’s do this and try to make it work well and put everything into it and see where we end up.” Have you ever filmed backcountry stuff in the Pyrenees? One day, this day will come. Maybe… What’s the one foot obsession all about? It just came about after shooting video parts for a couple years and trying a bunch of stuff. You watch a video part and there are all these spots everywhere but people don’t realize how difficult it is sometimes to find a real good spot. Sometimes spots are super sick or super big and other times they are a bit smaller and leave you wondering what you are going to do, like, “This is going to be lame, this is going to be lame… OK, maybe I just unstrap one foot and I can make this look cool.” That’s the way it started. It felt really good so I just kept on doing it and thinking of other tricks I could do in that way. I just want to do new stuff all the time. After shooting for many years, you’ve done a number of tricks before and done them well. It makes me happy to keep improving and to do new stuff and it leads me to try things like that.

Yeah, don’t mean to pigeon hole ya, simply curious! The versatility in your riding is obvious when watching your parts - mondo AK lines and big booters to street shit and one footed stuff. It’s all in there. I like the diversity. I like to change it up - a bit of street, a bit of freeride, a bit of park, a bit of one foot, a bit of whatever. It’s always good to change what you do. Everything comes together at some point and helps you with the other aspects, as opposed to just working on a halfpipe run your whole life or something. Keep it fresh. Are the French taking over the snowboard world? Yes, and going for the universe this upcoming season! Is it true that French films, by law, must contain tits and ass? Well, boobies sell well, so everywhere you have boobies you’ll have lots of people watching! Can you tell us about your crazy nightmares? Perhaps the wild one in Sri Lanka? I was sleeping in such a nice place in Sri Lanka, having a lovely time there with my girl on a surf trip. I totally freaked out during the night (casual), dreaming about gigantic spiders or something random like that and thought I had to escape. I jumped on the balcony and my girlfriend followed, as I was yelling and ready to jump. And then I woke up, realized I was dreaming, felt stupid and went back to sleep. This is just one of them.
METHOD16.3_DELARUE.indd 61
Does anything else scare you? It’s mostly in my dreams or in the mountains: weird noises, snow noises, cornices, avalanches, crevasses… Are you ever nervous you will get hit with a drone? Eh, sometimes (laughs). But hopefully technology will continue to improve and we won’t need to worry about that. Are you nervous for your bachelor party, that is, if you decide to marry one day? De Le Rue bachelor parties have quite the reputation. I am looking forward to it and waiting for those guys not to be pussies and to throw a good one. What makes them so crazy? We had one for one of my brothers three years ago and it was so gnarly. People heard about what happened and were just like, “What the fuck are these guys doing.” This year we had another one and it was really sick as well, but everyone was asking, “When is Victor going to get married?” Everyone is going to be out for their revenge!” Trying to get revenge for all the male strippers you’ve ordered them? Yeah, something like that. What brands are paying for the cheese and fine wine these days? The North Face, board sponsor to be determined soon, Shred, Slytech, Buff and Blue Tomato. Sorry, got to go surf now.

I remember when Cole first showed up at Mount Hood, he was a textbook East Coast shooter - hungry as hell, fully prepared to sleep on the floor (I think he did for a bit, right next to his Elinchroms and light stands) and firing to shoot with anyone and everyone. It’s a hell of a thing to get to cross the country and work on the glacier for the summer. Cole pushed his craft and worked his angles up at Hood for a few years, and it landed him a role as a photo powerhouse on the East, a go-to shooter when crews rolled through during the snowy months. Only a short while after those first summers, I found myself trading photos back and forth with Cole during winter trips and being fully inspired by his work. His technical ability when it comes to lighting, and his eye for style and composition has landed him among the best lensman out there today. I’m glad to see a shaggy-haired kid from the East make it from those first couple nights of sleeping on the floor at Hood to working with the best crews and magazines snowboarding has to offer. 062

Let’s be honest. Plenty of snowboarders can’t ollie for shit. Here are some free lessons by Don Lizard himself on how this essential is done properly. Thank us later.
We were trying to shred this triple set rail and this old, drunk Polish dude just loved Bob. He loved Bob so much that he wouldn’t leave him alone. He kept trying to move the guy out of his way, and our way, but the guy kept coming back. It got to the point where Bob was trying to shoot photos but the dude wouldn’t stop hugging and holding on to him. Bob was super nice about it all and eventually they became really good friends, even though neither of them could understand what the other was saying. The crazy part is that this dude looked exactly like our Grandpa who passed away a few years ago. He took Bob’s beanie and gave Bob his hat. Though Bob tried his hardest to give the guy his hat back because it had this amazing war pin in it, the guy just wasn’t having it. He stumbled off and we couldn’t find him afterward so we dipped. When we got home, Bob looked up the pin to find it was like 50 years old. Amazing come up! It was good to see the Polish Grandpa Gator again. Miss that dude!

Zebbe Landmark – reckless abandon and full commitment on this gap 270.
Poland was too amazing - so many funny stories. Watching Sam constantly puke after a hard night of drinking is up there. He also managed to scalp a quarter of his head hitting it against a metal bridge. At the hospital we saw a guy with his finger chopped off dripping blood. Watching Billy jump down 20 feet to a brick bank was insane. As the snow melted we spent hours driving 200 km/h listening to the Tron soundtrack. Going on a trip with my brother was amazing. We used to do that a lot back in the day and it had been years since we had done that before this winter. Staying at abandoned looking hotels. Hammid yelling, “Fuck yeah,” after landing tricks was rad. Zebbe has effortless style, which is so sick to see in person. Dominik was so motivated and was killing himself for shots. Of course, last but not least, Cole getting his phone stolen then throwing a temper tantrum for three days was pretty funny too!

The Poland trip was one of the wildest, yet most productive, trip/experiences I’ve ever been a part of. We somehow made everything work with the smallest amount of snow, traveling from town to town looking for spots. Without the group effect and motivation from the gang, the trip may have been somewhat of a joke, but it was pure gold. Everyone was stoked to board, even on a large diet of beer and candy. And with that, moral was high, of course. I would love to go back soon, especially considering how affordable Eastern Europe is and the amount of awesome spots that are there. We had the chance to go to Budapest to cool down after the extreme activities that took place in Poland; roaming around talking to random Norwegian girls, soaking up the bath houses, tasting delicious food, talking shit, and being complete tourists. It was great. Poland is the promised land of the Old World – cheap beer, beautiful chicks, perfect spots. Taxwood can live with that. Noseslide pretzel out

Well, there are all types of little stories I could tell ya, like when I got to the airport with no confirmation number, flight info or anything. Or that after I finally got on a plane or two and landed in Germany I was greeted by three of the best dudes around, Stax, Lizard, and Buffmoose, which guaranteed what I already knew – that this was gonna be one wild time. Or when we started the trip with a long drive to Poland, pissing Bob off the whole time with piss and cig breaks every hour. Or when Stax had to go to a hospital for the gash in his head. The doctors would get off their shift and just leave so we would wait hours for another doctor to show up. Finally, at the end of it all when it came to paying, they wouldn’t accept anything but cash before they let us leave. While all that was happening, Zebbe was bumming cigs to skinheads and there was a random dude who cut his fingers off or something who wanted to fight us on his way out.

The day I got my ender is pretty memorable. Before I hit my spot I helped Billy get the shot of him ollieing into a cement bank (see Americana). I watched Billy take the worst falls over and over. Following a handful of tries, Billy rode away into a landing of rock hard dirt dusted with the smallest amount of snow. After Bill got his shot, a bunch of local Polish snowboarders showed up to see what we were up to. I set my spot up fairly quickly and wanted to start hitting it as soon as I could. I had to set up a pretty sketchy in-run with a pretty harsh angle into the rail. When I dropped in for my second try I remember popping off the first rail and landing on the second rail much smoother than the first try. I rode through the rail pretty smoothly, popped off the closeout and landed in the bank, riding off in total disbelief. As I rode away I heard all the homies, including the Polish dudes, losing it. I was so hyped to have watched a homie get a gnarly trick, but I was even more stoked to have so many homies around when I had just landed one of the gnarlier things I filmed all year. I can’t remember the name of the place at the moment, but we were out driving around a mountain town checking for spots when we saw what looked to be an abandoned hotel and Billy, Stax and, I think it was Cole, went to check it out. It looked like we could do something there and I remember Billy had a wallride idea. Anyway, we eventually left and didn’t think too much about it. After a while we went to the hotel where we were staying and it turned out to be that same hotel that looked abandoned. The inside looked better but was still a bit sketchy, I would say. It turned out great because everyone wanted to party the first night, so we went up to the bar. It was super crowded and everyone started drinking and dancing anyway and soon enough we realized it was a cop party! I was so hyped, partying it up in my base layers with cops!

It was amazing being there with a big crew. The whole squad was up to nine people at one point and we pretty much fucked shit up! Imagine nine people invading a spot - we came through like a hurricane trying to hit every spot possible. We were lucky enough to have the world’s top photographer and tour manager Bobby Borsch on board and he hooked us up with amazing photos and the best accommodations all over Poland! We had big-ass houses, like in MTV Cribs, for so cheap you wouldn’t believe it. Each of us had a bed, or even individual single rooms, so the comfort level was pretty high! Everything in Poland was inexpensive. We lived like kings and ate out almost every day and didn’t have to worry about expenses too much. We’d start the day with a big family breakfast. Sometimes Lizard would prepare scrambled eggs for the whole gang to get us juiced for the day and we were ready to go... Well, let’s say slowly ready. I think it took us about three to four hours every morning before we were able to leave that place.

Among countless fiascos during our time in Europe, my personal breakdown came toward the end of our trip in Budapest. After an evening of experiencing the city’s best nightlife offerings, I found myself heading home for the night with Zebbe. Not far from our hotel, we were approached by a seemingly euphoric local who was surely interested in nothing but showing us his greatest Hungarian hospitality. He picked me up in his arms, proclaiming, “USA, USA, happy birthday!” over and over again. Zebbe and I laughed at who we thought was just a drunken local until he put me down and we began to make our way back. Within seconds, I noticed my pockets seemed a bit lighter. My phone was nowhere to be found. Upon checking for my wallet, I found that pocket empty, too. The pickpocketing bastard had pulled a quick one on this naive American tourist while we just sat there and laughed at him. I attempted to pursue the culprit but my drunken vigilante attempt at chasing a criminal proved to no avail. Unwisely, my solution was to throw a 2 a.m. temper tantrum while punching signs and feeling bad for myself in the streets of Budapest. Zebbe patiently waited for me to finish my pity party and we eventually headed back to the hotel. Fortunately, I escaped the debacle with my passport and things worked out OK. There were so many aspects of the trip that left us feeling out of our element: the creepy hotels, wody z gazem, the freeway signs, the drunken spot spectators - the list could go on forever. However, the experience would have been far less fun and memorable if we did not have to attempt to navigate through such cataclysms. new destination is always met with mixed emotions: apprehension, excitement, uncertainty and the big one, expectation. You’ve seen the spots, you’ve done the research, there are things you want to accomplish. Some are dreams, others are more realistic, but all are obtainable if, when the time is right, you can step up. I can only speak for myself but I think these are things that many snowboarders think about. If you can put it in perspective and realize that you may never be at this place, with this crew and this snow ever again, maybe you can use that as extra motivation to make one of those dreams come true. Oslo was the destination. The reason was the ThirtyTwo team movie. The dream was to stack hammers.
16.3 THIRTYTWO.indd 79
I arrived with Joe Sexton, Scott Stevens, Sam Fenton and Ethan Stone. Toni Kerkela made the short hop over from Finland and our local connect was Norwegian legend Danny Larsen. It was a squad whose level of skill and experience was without question. Some of the guys had been there before, but for me it was the first time in Oslo specifically to film snowboarding. Upon arrival we took a trip out to Krokkleiva to spend a few nights with Danny and get a lay of the land and current snow and weather conditions. As snowboarders we are at the mercy of weather and light. We wanted to maximize our time shooting during the day so we could avoid getting extra equipment to film in the dark. This can be a good motivator but also one more factor that can creep in at a pivotal moment. Light can be a real concern in Scandinavia and Oslo is no exception. We had a larger squad than you would normally want to film in the streets with, but because we were under the gun with daylight, it just meant more guys to help out when someone was riding.

Tree hugging is where it’s at. Danny Larsen lovin’ his environment
I consistently come to Scandinavian to film rails for good reason. The region has the best rails and architecture and, more importantly, the people that live there, for the most part, aren’t opposed to us riding our boards on said structures. Oslo did not disappoint. The first spot we went to seemed like it was designed specifically for snowboarding. A large variety of kinks, double to triple, and even an elbow and some perfect straight rails all with natural speed were laid out in a giant courtyard between two apartment buildings. At first glance you are almost overwhelmed, as it seems like you could spend your whole trip in this one place. Still jet-lagged we took the obvious line to acclimate ourselves and began to session one of the longer straight rails. Toni and Joe quickly logged some hammers - Toni with a 270 out
16.3 THIRTYTWO.indd 80
and Joe a 270 in. About halfway through our session it started to rain. A feeling of panic started to creep in but nobody wanted to say what everyone was thinking. This could be the end of our trip. Right here, a few hours into our first session. After all that travel and planning and prep we are still at the mercy of the all-mighty weather. It didn’t slow Scott down, though. While we wrapped up the rail session he found a nearby bench that he was able to generate his own speed for. Bigspin front board shove-it out was the move. Yes, he was snowboarding not skating. I’ve seen his video parts but never him live in the streets. It was a treat to witness and he was just getting started. Luckily the rain stopped before it caused too much harm and for the rest of the trip, the weather remained in our favor.

The nonchalance of this switch BS 50-50 from Toni K is almost scary
Still getting our bearings, we decided that the next spot would be one that we all had seen before and could ride together, a big wall next to a railway with a large hill for speed and somewhat of a natural transition already in place. It didn’t take much and the snow was perfect for building a tranny feature after the bit of rain had come through and made the snow sticky. We rode this spot for hours and everyone logged clips. It’s rare to session a feature in the street with five people at the same time but in this case it made things less stressful and more fun. It was cool to see everyone’s variety of tricks and varying approaches to a spot, a mix of inverts, flips,
16.3 THIRTYTWO.indd 81
spins, and lip tricks. Everyone here was coming from different locations, backgrounds and eras, but we all mixed in together for a great session. From there Danny took us to a new spot and told us it was in “the ghetto”, if there is such a thing in Oslo, where we found a large urban step-down. Danny blasted classic methods and Toni looked like a gymnast doing warm-up stretches with his back foot unstrapped, kicking his front foot out head high and somehow riding away from a massive drop from one street level down to the next. We came up in “the ghetto”.

Danny had also told us about a new school with some features we should go check out. We wanted to make sure that we didn’t just end up going to all the same classic spots we’d seen before, so of course we were down. We found a nice, elevated curved rail on top of a cement wall and myself, Toni and Scott sessioned that while Danny was around front tooling up another feature. He found a way to launch off a road out to a solitary tree that he used for a landing and then redirected himself onto a tranny below. Unfortunately Danny ended up twisting his knee on it but not until after he snagged a few good clips. At first he seemed fine but after a few
16.3 THIRTYTWO.indd 82
hours it was apparent that it was more than a 24-hour tweak. This ended his snowboarding for the remainder of the trip but you would have never been able to tell as I’ve never seen Danny without a smile on his face. Still not finished at this new location, Scott found a small handrail out back where he was able to do nollie north to one-footed backside tailslide on a tiny rail that most wouldn’t ever give a second look to, but yielded Scott another hammer. Places like this are awesome. It’s like your own private film studio. Three different spots, all with natural speed, all at the same location. Zones like this are why we go to places like Oslo.

Our next spot was an old, classic kink rail that you’ve surely seen. We knew it had natural speed, a reoccurring phenomenon in Norway, and was good for gaps as well. We set up the right side and Joe and I got into a session on it. I went with a gap backside 270 and Joe a switch 180 to 5-0 through the kink. A trick that a few years ago could have ended your video part, he did in a small number of tries. We did have a little spat with a local woman who wasn’t happy about it though. She tried to
16.3 THIRTYTWO.indd 83
stop us from riding until another local group come to our defense, and in the end, even the property maintenance man sided with us. Again, another reason why we love the Scandinavian countries so much. This was good news because we were not done. We set up the other side of the rail and Toni poked out some nice frontside grabs to frontside boardslides, effectively closing down another multi-clip session, and adding to what was becoming an impressive trip timeline.

Scott had a big dream. He filled us in on a trick he wanted to do, and as with many tricks, finding the right place was key. He was constantly searching for a spot to suit his needs, sometimes wandering off during a session for some recon, only to report back that he almost found the perfect spot. This day was different, though. He had found what he was looking for. After a session that Joe and Toni put down on a nearby kink with an extended flat, Scott took us across the street to an un assuming kink rail of his own. Small. 8-flat 8-ish, maybe. The catch? He wanted to boardslide it without being strapped it. Caveman style. It was nice to watch someone who isn’t necessarily known for gnar factor suddenly faced with the very real outcome of sacking himself; a unique predicament for a snowboarder to be in and as gnar as it gets. He went through the necessary motions and soon enough it was apparent that he was going to be able to make this dream happen. But that didn’t make it any less amazing when it did go down. Suddenly, as Scott rode away to the cheers from the crew, we all realized we’d just witnessed one of those special moments in snowboarding. We knew it right away and our beliefs were later confirmed when we saw Scott’s closing video part with this trick as the ender to the part and the whole 2032 film. The dream is real.

nappp, POW! I woke with a shock and looked around the room, the other two floor beds were empty. It was one of those moments we all have where you wake up and are completely lost as to where you are and what’s going on. It was day three of our Japanese tour and just a few hours before I’d been stuffing my face with Ramen and Gyoza (potstickers in Western parlance). Yes, they actually do eat those things over there - by the plateful. They also love to chain smoke while eating, which is a habit I have yet to see catch on in America. Or perhaps I just missed the boat on that trend? Either way, it had been enough to send me to bed early in hopes that the following day would come complete with another bluebird jam session.
Up until now, our content production rate wasn’t bad; Ranquet had a few shots in the bag, and D-Day’s two newschool rippers on the trip, Deadlung and Eric Messier, had both tied down a couple A-grade moments for the camera. But being the old-school perfectionist that I am, there is never enough, especially these days with social media sites like Instagram and Facebook hogging up all the content. I finally got back to sleep, and what felt like seconds later, Words and photos by Sean Sullivan/ATI

found myself in the morning light as we loaded the Manueverline vans for another day of shredding. Our guides, slash, resident whipping posts, Tim and Kyo, were both great sports considering the circumstances. No doubt they had to know that, well, this was the D-Day team and we had a right - no scratch that - an obligation to live up to a certain reputation. Of course, for Ranquet, this wasn’t his first trip to Japan. In fact, I asked him how many times he’d been here and he uttered, “probably 40, or more.” I had to laugh. It had been 20-plus years since the “Rubber Frog Incident” had gotten Mike and fellow D-Day’er Chris Roach deported from Japan (as documented in the seminal video Snowboarders in Exile. As the rumor goes, it was Chris and Mike’s brightly dyed hair that got them booted, but if you ask Mike, he’ll allege that it was Palmer’s throwing of a rubber frog at a high-ranking contest official that started it all and that they (Mike and Chris) just got blamed. Either way, the facts remain, um, “froggy” to most involved. What is clear is that such shenanigans helped create the Ranquet legend, and stand in contrast to the clean and tidy personas delivered by many of the most visible faces of snowboarding’s current generation.

The thing that many people don’t understand about trips like this is that distributors like Maneuverline make the trips happen. Arriving at the hill, it was clear they’d done their homework; the lot was bustling with snowboarders and giant D-Day posters could be seen covering the windows of the main lodge. One thing that has to be said about the Japanese people is that they are quite possibly the most polite and kind-hearted people on the planet. The group-think is one of respect and courtesy, and no matter where you go (unlike in America) there really is no sore-thumb jerk standing out. They are all nice people and were genuinely excited to see us. Mike Ranquet is big in Japan. That is a fact. This is not something that happened overnight, but something Mike has spent years cultivating. Through his appearances in movies like Roadkill (running on loop as we speak in every snowboard shop Japan) and his strict dedication to a certain style of snowboarding, Mike carved out his place in snowboarding, Japan included. (He’s also the only snowboarder alive with pro models in four different decades – ‘80s, ‘90s, 2000s and 2010s). He is loved over there, and as such, even at 45, he still rolls tough in the Land of the Rising Sun. The demo day ended up being a main focus of this return trip and it did not disappoint. In case you haven’t noticed, snowboarding has been going through a strange and interesting metamorphosis as of late, and this day was
a reminder that the days of massive do-or-die kickers may be giving way to smaller jumps, transitions carved everywhere, and once again, a prevailing emphasis on style. It was on the second to last day that someone in the crew decided we were going to move to a different location. When we arrived at Alyeska Resort, I was genuinely unsure whether we had arrived at that noted resort a few miles from Anchorage Alaska, or were still in Japan. After a sharp pinch I realized that: A.) We were still in Japan, B.) This resort was also named Alyeska and C.) There was over a foot of pow and it was still snowing. Riding up the quad chair that morning was absolutely surreal. The past seven days had been in the sixties (Fahrenheit) and bluebird. The notion that we would have a genuine powder day on this trip had seemed like a distant fantasy, but here we were, and as the runs racked up so did the face shots. We ended the day at the lift shack. With fractal visions and kaleidoscope eyes the crew made one final go for the camera jumping off a container box as a crew of local Japanese kids looked on with pure stoke.

Why make a movie with snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing? What was the driving force behind this project? I wanted to make a different style of movie. I‘ve been filming video parts for 15 years or so using the same format: gather as much sick footage as you can, choose a song and add it to the roster to make one sick action-packed snowboard film. I wanted to do something different then that, a passion project. I’m very passionate about snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding so I wanted to include those three sports. They shape my lifestyle. I also wanted to involve friends and people I look up to, as well as run an experiment. I wanted to know if snowboarders, skateboarders and surfers all feel what I feel when I snowboard. I wanted to know how they balance their life and the need to be in the moment through those sports and what ultimately makes them happy. So the film touches on all this. It’s a movie about our life. Our, meaning “us” - all the passionate people making all the sacrifices necessary to stand sideways and have fun with nature’s force.
16.3 BALANCE.indd 92
Let’s discuss the title for a second for those who maybe did not see the teaser or video yet. Why Balance? Is there an underlying ideology involving balance? Yeah. Basically we live in an age where people have more of everything - more technology, jobs, babies, day-to-day stress and so on. Then there are the people who’ve made sacrifices and changed their whole life in order to live at the mountain, or at the beach, to get one more slash, one more wave. We ran a study on how people balance their everyday stress and obligations with as much time standing sideways as possible. How do you find balance in a world out of joint? I feel lucky to have found activities like skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding that give me that “in the moment “ feeling, the act of flow. If I can do that as much as possible, or even for an hour every day, and work the rest of the day and spend time with my family, then I will have the perfect balance. It’s definitely not an easy task, but you have to keep working at it.

Finding purpose in an increasingly cluttered world, DCP unfolds a method in Obersaxen
What’s the worst or most humbling job you’ve had or sacrifice you’ve made to achieve this equilibrium? I have been very fortunate to have the support of sponsors, even at a younger age as I was coming up and competing. But I would say it was when I worked at KFC in Whistler during the summer so that I could ride the glacier. It was just gross, let’s just put it that way. I never ate at KFC ever again after that.
a deeper purpose than the typical projects I have been involved in for years. (Although, I am honored to have been a part of those projects and I’m most grateful for the opportunity). The purpose was to find my way after all this; to express the roots of our connection and passion for these sports, to inspire people and validate why they have chosen the lifestyle they did. I do it because I truly love and enjoy doing it.
Ever question what you are doing? This is actually the reason why this project came to life. There are unfortunate events that happen in life and two years ago, on April 20th, I lost one of my best friends, my brother-in-law, in an avalanche in Colorado. That threw me for a serious loop. And that’s not to mention that my wife and mother of our two children was going through chemotherapy so it took a while before I was interested in snowboarding again. I was done. I couldn’t expose myself to the risk, for my kids, my wife, and my family. But then, after a summer of surfing and thinking about it all, I was missing snowboarding and I realized how much I loved it. So I decided to make this film, and make it different, with
The first line in the teaser is, “What makes you happy?” Well sir, right back at ya. What makes you happy? My family, their smiles, their shiny eyes and seeing them having fun and feeling the flow. My wife, her smile and her love. Surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding are on the top of the list of things I love doing with them and other friends. Adventuring and riding a new spot or a new wave gets me excited and that makes me happy as well.
16.3 BALANCE.indd 93
Are you happy now? YES. I’m happy, but this project, and especially the film tour, have been quite stressful and ended up being a lot more then I anticipated. However, I‘m definitely grateful

for the experience and all that I‘ve learned, I’m looking forward to a more mellow year coming up as far as planning and traveling. Very glad to hear it. On a lighter note, did you score more centimeters of pow or drink more centiliters of beer? I’d say pow for sure over any other substance. This fall however, with the 25 tour stops that I attended and hosted, I’ve had a few beers too many. I ‘ll take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this tour happen, especially my family who supported me through a lot of traveling. How’d the ocean treat ya? I love to surf. It’s so much fun. It’s constantly new and the feedback you receive from the wave is so fast. You always learn and get better. But for me, it’s also very meditative. It’s time alone that helps me connect with nature and myself. Where were the surf parts filmed? We filmed one section in Costa Rica, mostly in Pavones, this long, left wave right on the Panama borer. We also filmed at Playa Hermosa de Jaco. The other part, in the wet suits, was filmed on Vancouver Island with an
16.3 BALANCE.indd 94
adventure to Noothka Island, some nautical hours north of Tofino. We almost pulled the plug on the Noothka trip because the forecast said the winds were wrong. We went anyway and the wind switched for us and we ended up with all those sick barrels. Who scored the most tubes out of all the snowboarders? (Laughs) We didn’t get the chance to film a lot of surfing with the snowboarders, but Sepp Bruhwiler is a good snowboarder and came to Baldface Lodge and Whistler to ride. He got the most tubes. How did you guys up end snowmobiling naked? Well, we camped in Russia and there happened to be one building on the beach and it was a Bagna (Russian Sauna) so we cranked it up. The ocean was very close and we wanted to jump in the cold water so we jumped on the snowmobiles and drove to the ocean. Why are Americans, Brits and Aussies so weird about being naked? An English language connection? I don’t know. Maybe it’s how they are raised, with self-conscious thoughts and their societal standards or guidelines. I don’t know.

RDM ramping up the km/h
The snow looked a little dicey in Russia? Was it better than it looked? The snow in Russia was bad. We were there too late. It was either hot pow or super icy. But, we went with what we found. We had a good time and we tried to score waves. Like JP says in the film, you don’t always get it and that’s part of the adventure and part of life. You can’t always get what you want, but when you do, it’s very rewarding! Do you have any tips or pointers for the novice snow campers out there? I would say pack light, but pack warm clothes and bring dry socks. Two extra pairs if you can. Pack a headlamp and extra batteries, as well. It’s good to build a little wall of snow blocks to protect your tent from the incoming wind. Also, bring earplugs for sure. If your roommate is snoring or the wind is too loud, you want to be able to get your rest so you can hike and ride sick shit! Worst and best parts of snow camping? Worst: Your boots are frozen in the morning. Best: You wake up in the heart of the mountains and you feel so small and can start riding so much quicker.
16.3 BALANCE.indd 95
You linked up with some pretty legendary skateboarders. How did you connect with those guys? I would have to say Globe really helped me with this one. Romain (De Marchi), JP (Solberg) and I all ride for Globe and we do a collab après boot with them. I met Louie (Barletta) at the Zumiez 100K event and briefly discussed the idea with him. Then Steve Black from Globe helped me line up Mark (Appleyard) and Paul (Hart) and align schedules. It was sweet! I was honored to skate with them and share Costa Rica with them. They are great humans! Were the surfers and skaters pretty psyched on the video and concept? They were, actually, and it kind of came naturally. We had great trips and adventures. They did their thing and then at the end of the trip they were each interviewed, so we had time to get to know each other, and they got to learn the idea behind the concept and feel part of it, as we are all part of the concept. BALANCE is for anyone.

Scrubbing toilets, flipping burgers – we’d do any number of things for a go at this diving board. Nico’s found his formula, and it’s been a pleasure to watch

JP Solberg’s a YES man. No keepin’ this guy away from good times
Did surrounding yourself with other legendary rippers (snow and skate) change your approach to riding at all. This movie roster reads like a shredder’s Hall of Fame induction list. I was just very happy that they accepted my invitation. We had great times together. Some of those guys were idols of mine growing up. Some I ended up meeting years ago and developed good friendships with, and some became new friends. I feel like they are a perfect group of people to tell the story I was going for. A lot of us have families and have been doing this for a long time and the rest are up-and-comers, new-school rippers, so I feel like we add an amazing group of friends. I’d like to thank all of them very, very much, because this project wouldn’t have been possible without them all.
and figured let’s take the doors off and film those lines. They look good and fun! And the snow was so good for that kind of stuff. The couloirs were picked and filmed because of the contrast of the walls on each side on a day that had a bit more flat light. The Eagle Pass guides are really knowledgeable and can take you to whatever terrain you are looking for. The Eagle Pass area is huge and very diverse.
These lines you guys charged at Eagle Pass are something else. Have you been scoping them for a while? Bet a lot of kids were looking at it like, “Nah, you can’t ride this.” Those lines were fun and were sort of within sight. We didn’t scope those before the shoot, but came upon them
Any parting words? Enjoy winter and find your happiness. A lot of things are overrated in life. Love is where it’s at.

How will the video be available to the public? It will be in some shops through KidsKNOW distribution on DVD and Blu-ray. Also, it’s available on www. thebalancemovie.com and through iTunes or Vimeo On Demand, depending on which country you are in. Thank you all so much for the support.

This whole “inverted halfway down the set” situation at a classic NY down bar might not look so hot for our bud Mitch Richmond in this frame, as he works around a painfully literal looking rendition of “taking one on the chin.” But in keeping with the spirit of the phrase, Mitch swung back in the saddle, gave it another stab and ended up completely nailing this FS 360 50-50. The proof is in Think Thank’s newest film, Methods of Prediction. PHOTO: TIM ZIMMERMAN
