According to the Brooklyn district attorney's office, websites such as HighClassNY.com, TheDiscreteClub.com, NYAdultDating.com, CupidDirect.com, and Angelofyourchoice.com — seen here — were targeted in the sting.
The Brooklyn district attorney’s office took down a high-end escort and prostitution ring yesterday, but one ex-madam says the bust only netted small fish — and that larger, more exclusive prostitution circles are still operating right under officials’ noses. Seventeen people were allegedly involved in the Sheepshead Bay operation — nicknamed “High Class NY” — which officials say took in more than $2 million a year. Some clients dropped $10,000 a night on the women, referred to as “models.”
Girls’ plight
“These girls are still going to work. They’re going to have to go independent and they will make bad decisions if they’re desperate for money,” said Davis.
“Nothing good happens in Sheepshead Bay,” sniffed Kristin Davis, 35, the Upper East Side ex-
madam who did jail time for running the call girl service patronized by former Gov. Eliot Spitzer. “If you’re big, you’re in Manhattan because that’s where the money is.” High Class NY advertised on Craigslist and Backpage.com. But the big operations don’t need to advertise at all, Davis said. There are three or four big escort agencies in New York, and they avoid the law by keeping a set list of private members, she explained, and by frequently changing their names and websites.
“I don’t think they have enough resources to go after the big guys,” said Davis of law enforcement. Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said “High Class NY” catered to Wall Street types and offered drugs as well. Customers would use codes, such as “I’d like a bottle of Champagne,” to order cocaine. The busted brothel had 25 women on call, but in her heyday, Davis said she employed at least 120. Couple married, but still face deportation Lesbian Queens couple wants feds to recognize their marriage Legally married in Connecticut Lawyers says unfair standard for gay couples As gay and lesbian couples around the city make plans to wed, two Queens women are terrified that their marriage isn’t good enough to prevent them from being ripped 5,000 miles apart. Monica Alcota, 36, an Argentinean immigrant, is embroiled in deportation proceedings — even though she is married to Cristina Ojeda, a U.S. citizen. They were legally married in Connecticut in 2010, but Alcota’s tourist visa expired in 2001. Ojeda, 25, filed a petition asking that Alcota be classified as the spouse of a
Demise of DOMA? President Barack Obama said on Tuesday he would challenge the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. The Senate held a hearing on it yesterday. U.S. citizen, but the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services denied her request in May, despite the fact that gay marriage is now legal in both Connecticut and New York. The couple is now waiting until their next hearing in December to find out if Alcota will be deported. Their lawyer, Lavi Soloway, blames the federal Defense of Marriage Act. The hotly contested law bars giving a spouse in a same-sex marriage the same protections as in a straight marriage. As they wait to hear their fate, the couple
avoids flying, driving or even going out for a drink together because Alcota lacks identification. She is terrified to be in a car for risk of being pulled over by police. In July 2009, while they were traveling from Buffalo, Border Patrol officers pulled her off a Greyhound bus when she could not provide an ID. She spent three months in a detention center. “It’s hard for her to go to the bank, to go to the post office,” Ojeda said. “We live day by day.” ALISON BOWEN

Hello there ...
‘THE CITY BECOMES VERY SMALL’ Ed Glazar, 41, a Sunnyside resident and co-author of “Bike NYC: The Cyclist’s Guide to New York City,” on sale this month, talks bikes: What parts of the city are best seen by two wheels?
One of the best things to do by bike is ride out to Fort Tilden to hit the beach. Definitely the most easy access is on bicycle. One of my other favorite rides is riding around the cemetery belt in Queens. It’s just such a crazy place. What is so engaging about seeing the city by bike?

Bloomberg in the Hamptons
It’s a great way to see the city because our island’s not really that big. People who walk think it is, but once you get on a bike ... the city becomes very small. How do out-of-towners react to seeing New York by bike?
Some people are a little intimidated by the actual thought of biking on city streets, so they come and do tours of Central Park. Then we get a handful of people who aren’t afraid, so I take them out to Brooklyn, and I also take them on Broadway. METRO/AB

New software for screening travelers at U.S. airports will do away with naked images, addressing a major public concern, the Transportation Security Administration said yesterday. After complaints from travelers, the TSA earlier this year began testing at four airports software for the full-body scanners that instead uses a generic body outline and highlights the area where any anomaly is detected, eliminating actual images of passengers. TSA has increasingly relied on the full-body scanners after a Nigerian man
allegedly tried to detonate a bomb hidden in his underwear aboard a transatlantic flight in December 2009. The bomb failed to fully explode but set off a rush to upgrade security to detect explosives underneath clothing. Later this year, TSA plans to roll out a pilot program that will allow some frequent fliers at four hub U.S. airports to go through expedited screening, an attempt to shift more toward assessing the risk of the individual flier rather than a one-size-fits-all security model. The Dartmouth undergrads who formed Pilobolus 40 years ago are in their 60s now — one of them, Jonathan Wolken, died last year. Boomers all, they started a minor revolution in the dance world, letting themselves steal moves from gymnastics and martial arts, be playful and take off their clothes. The troupe creates collaboratively; some dances credit choreography to a dozen people. Younger movers, including women, carry the process into the 21st century, but the company’s repertory still has the unmistakable whiff of the Woodstock generation. Pieces that transfixed us 30 years ago now look staid. One of this season’s premieres, “All is Not Lost,” includes music-video director Trish Sie on its creative team, and features the rock band OK Go. At barely five minutes long, its virtues are brevity and surprise. Six dancers in blue unitards clamber up onto a glass

The kaleidoscope-like patterns their bodies make are projected on a big screen; they appear to be climbing a wall when in fact they’re moving horizontally. It’s a good visual joke, and it’s over before we tire of it. But after all these years, there’s still something collegiate and unformed about the whole enterprise. Aikido rolls are cool, but they don’t substitute for developed dance ideas. Some of the posing and posturing is terminally cute. Nevertheless, the audience eats it up. ELIZABETH ZIMMER

Nothing ‘Ugly’ about these shows KELLY HOPPER
Second microseason underway in Brooklyn Come for the show, stay for the after-party How one actor feels about getting undressed onstage
Matthew Wise and Lauren Swann star in “Grief,” part of UglyRhino Originals at the Brooklyn Lyceum.
UglyRhino, now presenting a summer season of original productions, promises that your show ticket will go a long way. It might, for example, guarantee you a pass to an after-party. It might get you a drink from the bar or free samosas from Baluchi’s. It might include a free concert after the show. Regardless of the evening’s fare, be prepared for a night of theater unlike any other. “A big thing for us is that the social atmosphere is gone from a Broadway show,” UglyRhino's co-artistic director, Nicole Rosner, informs. “You walk in and the drinks are $12, and you’re just kind of forced to go in, sit down, see the

to Twitter. “Grief” follows a man who hasn’t had a good cry in 14 years, and explores his strong reaction to an arbitrary celebrity death. “For people who are not theatergoers, to just sit down in the theater and think that this doesn’t have to be stuffy, this can be social and something that one can enjoy, that is our company’s mission,” Rosner adds. “It’s really about the experience and hoping that the audience also feels that the quality of work is good — that they will be engaged in the storyline.”

So right away, you’re like, ‘Oh, I can come here a bit earlier,’” Rosner says. “And then afterward, you’re encouraged to stay. That’s a big part of it — theater can be a night out. People will go to the movies or pay money to see a gig, but why not do a little bit of everything and get a different type of cultural experience?” In its second microseason, UglyRhino is presenting two all-new works: “#nyc” and “Grief.” “#nyc” is an all-too-familiar tale of a politician’s fallout thanks You get undressed onstage. Cass McCombs on private investigators and reaching ‘Wit’s End’ Which comes first, the tune or the words? Cass McCombs is renowned for the way he deals with the press almost as much as he is for his finely crafted songs. For a period of time, the singer and songwriter demanded that interviews be conducted via mail. No, not e-mail: actual mail. But McCombs is talking to press again, at a time when his music is so good that it speaks for itself. With his new album, “Wit’s End,” it sounds like he spent some time in the Leonard Cohen school of songwriting. The songs ease their way into your consciousness with a
wounded elegance and delicate beauty. And after all the hubbub about him not being a great conversationalist, we found him surprisingly forthcoming.
learned how to do it in the first place. I don’t know if you know, but my record company hired a private investigator to take photos of me, when I wasn’t aware of that.
How does it feel to be talking to us press folk again?

The songs on this album definitely have the feel of somebody who isn’t used to engaging with the world. How does it feel to take those songs of solitude to people? That must be an odd transition.

Judging from this photo, it seems like Cass McCombs was telling the truth about private investigators following him.
Music is surprising, because there are so many different components. There’s the lyrics, which I usually find the most important. But when you add a band on top of that, they have their own interpretations, musically. And then the crowd has their interpretations. So I mean, music grows. The writing of it is just the first
step. And I try to write so it implies things that excite people’s imaginations, so they create their own meaning anyway. You mentioned that lyrics are the most important to you. Do they always come first?
Some are lyric-oriented and some I’ll just be jamming on a guitar and a word will pop into a riff that you play.
On McCombs’ website, all of his lyrics are viewable, but you’ll also find German translations. Is he big in Germany? “I doubt it,” he says. “I’ve hardly ever played there.” McCombs says he has friends who offered to do the translation, and he liked the idea. “I think it’s just interesting,” he says. “But I can’t read it so I don’t know if it’s even accurate.” Riffs are kind of like syllables, so they kind of speak to you. Reasons to add Jimenez
In the news
Lockout still on It will be at least one more day with no football. The NFLPA had hoped to hash out the details of the CBA and vote on it yesterday, but debate remains. Ratification of the CBA could still come this week. METRO

Reports say Yankees are looking into Ubaldo But do they even need the flame-throwing righty?
Yankees still mum on trade

Ubaldo Jimenez won 50 games over the previous three years and has finished near or over 200 innings. He also had a relatively low WHIP during his breakout 2010 campaign (1.15). He also showed he is a tremendous strikeout pitcher with 214 last year — third in the National League. Maybe more importantly than the impressive statistics is the fact that he has made at least 33 starts in each of his three full seasons. The downside though is he was 15-1 at the All-Star break last year and 10-15 since, though he is 6-3 with a 2.61 ERA in his last 10 starts.
Though money may be no object to the Yankees, Jimenez has favorable contract terms. Jimenez is making $2.8 million this year, $4.2 next year and has an option of $5.75 million for 2013 and $8 million in 2014 — which he can void if he is traded (to the Yankees or any team). With Burnett locked up for $33 million over two more years and Sabathia having the ability to opt out this year, he’d be a cheap addition that isn’t a veteran from the scrap heap.
Jimenez is just 27 and has pitched 845 innings without a hint of breaking down. By comparison, Seattle’s Felix Hernandez is two years younger and has thrown over 1,300 innings, which might make people wonder who breaks down sooner. Jimenez has only been on the DL once in his career — earlier this season — and it was for a cracked fingernail. Not exactly a worrisome shoulder or arm injury.
A proven track record
All about the money
Youth and a lack of injuries
The Yankees are staying quiet about whether they are interested in Ubaldo Jimenez. Multiple sources report they are, but there has been no official comment, positive or negative, from management. None is expected. Manager Joe Girardi said he was content to not add anyone to the rotation if that’s how it shook out. “This is what we have and we’ve gotten to this point because of them,” he said. “There’s no reason that can’t continue.” METRO

All-Star duo’s return gives life to Mets, but for how long? Reyes, Beltran return to lineup Pair sparks Mets in the short term But will Beltran last any more than two weeks to trade deadline?
Jose Reyes will reportedly remain a Met, but Carlos Beltran’s future with the team remains uncertain.
Jets DL Jenkins retires from NFL
The Mets had flatlined. The doctor brought out the defibrillator Tuesday night. The barely-hanging-onto-the-periphery-of-theplayoffs Mets had Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran return to the lineup for the start of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. They made their impact right away. Beltran had a double in his first at-bat and finished 3-for-3 with a run scored. Reyes was 2-for-5. And most importantly, they won 4-2.
The free agents to be are in the midst of remarkable seasons. Reyes is authoring perhaps the finest year by a shortstop in franchise history. His .354 batting average leads the National League and he’s scored 65 runs and stolen 30 bases. Beltran, after missing 179 of 324 games in the last two seasons with leg injuries, leads the team with 14 home runs and 59 RBI while playing in 90 games. “I think that’s going to be huge,” Jason Bay said about the return to the line-
longer play physically. “It’s time for the torch to be passed to the younger players,” he wrote. “It’s time to hang up the cleats! The mind is always willing to play, but my body deserves the rest.” Jenkins’ impact never showed in box scores. The
6-foot-5, 360-pound interior lineman often handled two or three blockers, effectively eliminating the inside running game. Jenkins was on the Jets for three years, but played only 23 games. He spent his first seven seasons playing for Carolina. METRO

up of both. Reyes returned from a left hamstring strain suffered while Beltran missed the last two games of the Phillies series and Monday night’s loss to Florida due to the flu. The Mets were 6-6 in the 12 games without Reyes, and lost two-of-three without both. “Any team that loses guys like that [is] going to
have a tough time getting their offense generated,” manager Terry Collins said. Collins acknowledged that he will have to be especially mindful of the heat and the schedule as it pertains to Reyes’ health. The Mets are in a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. ESPN reported yesterday the Mets would “100 percent” not trade Reyes. Beltran is another story. His spark may not last long. DENIS GORMAN sports@metro.us
