A new poll shows Republican Sen. Scott Brown leading his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren by one point. In a poll by Suffolk University/7NEWS, 48 percent of likely voters chose Brown compared to 47 percent for Warren. Five percent were undecided. The race has tightened since the university's February poll when Brown lead Warren 49 percent to 40 percent. METRO

Bovine bash involves Bud Lites in Boxford
BOFORD POLICE
A roving group of rogue bovines led police on a slow pursuit before they crashed a backyard party recently in Boxford. Lt. James Riter said he responded to a call for some loose cows in the street about 9 p.m. Sunday. When he arrived at the reported location of the escaped cows he found "evidence" of their presence there. He drove down the road a bit until he caught up with the six cows who made their way to the backyard of a house. "The cows had come around the corner where a group of young adults was sitting out at a table having a few beers on a nice night," said Riter, a 21-year veteran who has previously been chased by goats and turkeys while at work. Riter said he heard some amused screams that led him to the backyard where he found the cows at the table, which the group had fled for the safety of a nearby deck. At least one of the cows was drinking beer that had spilled when they knocked over the cans and cups. When asked what was the reaction of the homeowner and visitors, Riter said it was wonderment. "Imagine that bunch of

Courthouse catches fire BOSTON. Fire crews responded to the federal courthouse in South Boston after a small fire broke out there Thursday afternoon. The call for a fire came in just after 4 p.m., according to the Boston Fire Department. A two-alarm fire broke out in the basement transformer room. Power crews had to cut power to the building, which was partially evacuated. There were no reports of injuries by press time. METRO

people sitting out on a nice night and the next thing they know they are joined by a herd of cows that drank their beer," he said. Police were able to contact the cows' owner who came to the home with a friend. Armed with a bucket of grain, the owner was able to coax the cows to the front yard.
Weekend disruptions coming for Orange Line Buses will soon replace Orange Line service north of Boston on some weekends as work gets under way on the new Assembly Square station in Somerville. The first weekend bus diversion is scheduled for June 9 starting at 5 a.m. and lasting through 5 a.m. June 11, said
NICOLAUS CZARNECKI/METRO
Lydia Rivera, a T spokeswoman. Buses will replace trains between Sullivan and Oak Grove stations. The bus service will mirror the Orange Line route and T personnel will direct riders to the replacement service. While the weekend diversion service will occur sporadically during the early summer, it will expand to include weeknight evenings by the end of summer, Rivera said. An earlier project update from the T said they expected service to be interrupted for 18 weeks and 175 nonconsecutive weeknights starting at 9 p.m. those nights. METRO/MN

POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT FOR CNN
WALKING THE PRESIDENTIAL PLANK The heaving surf and blustery winds of the presidential race provoked a rash act on Mitt Romney’s would-be ship of state this week. With little warning and undeniable bravery (or foolishness) Captain Romney stalked out to the edge of a political plank to make a bold proclamation about what his first term would bring.

can tell you that over a period of four years, by virtue of the policies that we put in place, we get the unemployment rate down to 6 percent, or perhaps a litQuoted tle lower,” he told Time’s Mark Halperin. And in the waters below, the political critics beat the waves to foam and gnashed their teeth, because “The real they know if he is elected and this plank breaks, problem with he’s shark bait. Of course, that has never stopped candidates be- making fore. Oh sure, most of the time they stick with vague promises pledges to bring immeasurable things like, oh say, hope and change. Contrary to Republican claims, this was not broken.” precisely a promise, and the administration has acFOREMAN knowledged that their team’s read on the economy’s resilience was overly optimistic. Still, the impression remains among many voters that Mr. Obama made a pledge and unemployment has been above 8 percent pretty much ever since. The real problem with making promises about the unemployment rate is that they are almost always destined to be broken. There are simply too many factors involved — factors that presidents can’t control. Still, you can understand the appeal for the candidates: Even if it’s risky, the view of the White House is just magnificent from the end of the plank. – CNN’s Tom Foreman is a regular on “AC360°”/www.ac360.com and “The Situation Room.”

Fidelity, Knight problems add to Nasdaq’s Facebook woes The repercussions from Facebook’s botched initial public offering deepened on Thursday as Fidelity Investments found itself dealing with “thousands” of customers with order problems and Knight Capital demanded tens of millions of dollars in compensation from Nasdaq for trading-related losses. A technical glitch delayed Facebook’s market debut by half an hour on Friday and many client orders were delayed subsequently, costing some investors and traders big losses as the stock price dropped after an initial gain The exchange operator is facing lawsuits from investors and threats of legal action from brokers that have been compensating customers for delayed trades. Long-term market play: Facebook seen at $22 Facebook Inc. may fall more than 42 percent below its initial public offering price by the end of the year, according to bets by structured-product investors. Review
‘Chernobyl Diaries’ Director: Bradley Parker Cast: Jesse McCartney, Olivia Dudley Rating: R Grade:
It’s a nuclear waste of a film.
There isn’t much redemption in watching a film like “Chernobyl Diaries.” Then again, there’s not supposed to be. As a gratuitous spectacle set at the now-abandoned site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster, a group of tourists get stranded only to discover they’re not alone. Oren Peli’s (“Paranormal Activity”) script isn’t wholly original, but mere suggestion and shaky cinematography will likely be enough to sell many tickets. STEVE GOW
Josh Brolin, who plays Tommy Lee Jones’ 1969 counterpart in ‘Men in Black 3,’ takes our time-travel pop quiz
Brolin in Black Will Smith, right, brings Josh Brolin, left, into the “Men in Black” fold.
J
osh Brolin knew he was taking on a challenge when he signed on to play a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones in the time travel-themed “Men in Black 3.” But how ready was he for the challenge of Metro’s Time-Travel Pop Quiz?
Q&A OK, you can only make one time-travel trip. Would you rather go forward or backward?
1
Wow. That’s a great question. Forward, for sure. Selfishly, I’d like to backward because there’s a lot of people that I would love to meet, you know? Obviously a lot of very important people from your Jesuses to your Mahatma Gandhis to the obvious. But if you go forward, you can see what actually is the consequence of what we’re doing now, come back and actually have proof that will happen if we don’t change. But then everyone will think you’re crazy, of course. But I already have to deal with that anyway, so that’s really par for the course for me. [Laughs]
First of all, how many gigawatts are required to energize the flux capacitor?
Um ... 360,000? Nope, 1.21.
I’m glad I got that so wrong. [Laughs]
2
While time-traveling, can you interact with your past or future self, or would that cause a catastrophic event?
It would cause a catastrophic event. But Boris the Animal does [in “Men in Black 3”]. I just know that time-travel, as is understood by Hollywood and their storytelling, has been if you in any way affect the past that you go into, that it always
has a negative effect on the future. That’s what I’ve been told, at least.
3
Speaking of: Say you travel back in time and you arrive standing alone in front of a young Adolf Hitler. What do you do?
Befriend. That’d be the best way to get in there, and then you can detour him. Befriend and detour.
4
What kind of adventure did Bill and Ted have?
An excellent one. When I met Keanu Reeves, that was the first thing I said. I was like, “Bill and Ted, right on dude!” I did “SNL” recently and we did “The Californians,” and I think that was what I did, some version of guys I grew up with and Keanu Reeves in that movie. It’s funny because they came up to me during rehearsal and were like, “We’d like you to do more of a
California voice.” And I said, “Dude, honestly, being from California, I’m doing the only voice that’s California. Everybody else is doing the funny version. I think I’m just doing the accurate version.”
5
In “Terminator,” is Arnold Schwarzenegger a cyborg, an alien or a wacky twin?
A cyborg, of course. But a different type of cyborg than Robert Patrick in No. 2, right? What’s it called? The T-1000.
The T-1000. Very good, man. You know your stuff.
6
Which movie, in your opinion, gets time-travel the most right?
God, man. “Time Bandits” by Terry Gilliam was probably my favorite time-travel movie that I’ve seen, just because it was so fantastical, and Terry Gilliam is such a brilliant director. Like “Brazil” and “Fear and
Loathing,” the lenses that he uses are so warped and all that. It’s brilliant. I like that movie a lot.
A lot of people say “Back to the Future.”
To me, “Time Bandits” was a different level of it. “Back to the Future” is fun and kind of like, [in a Valley Girl voice] “Oh my God, it’s so much fun! He’s skateboarding and it’s a rocket! Oh my God!” [Laughs] I haven’t seen “Time Bandits” in a while, I need to watch it again.
7
I’ll give you a chance to redeem yourself on the gigawatts question if you can tell me how fast the DeLoreon in “Back to the Future” has to go to travel through time.
Oh God, I know this. Sixty-five? Eighty-eight.
F—! I wouldn’t get very far. NED EHRBAR METRO WORLD NEWS IN LOS ANGELES

t’s been nearly four years since Will Smith has had a movie out — his last being the weepy dud “Seven Pounds” — so you’ll understand if he wanted to ease his way back into things with something a bit familiar. “I haven’t worked in three years, so I wanted to put on some shoes that I knew fit,” Smith says. Hence “Men in Black 3,” re-teaming Smith with Tommy Lee Jones as the black-suited, Ray Bans-donning men of mystery keeping Earth safe from aliens its citizens aren’t even aware of. This time, they toss in the element of time-travel — but it’s still very much a “Men in Black” film. “It was very important for me, having been away that long, to come back in a way that I was comfortable and to come back with a project that was kid-friendly,” Smith says. “That was something that Eddie Murphy said to me a few years ago. He said, ‘Man, if you’re lucky enough to be in this business, every 20 years you have to go back and get the kids.’ I was looking at ‘Dr. Doolittle’ and ‘The Klumps’ and everything, the idea of matur-

ing. What’s great for me is that that target audience is in my house.” That wasn’t the only piece of wisdom from his elders Smith has held on to, as it turns out. “I was in Australia in 1990 with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, and they were opening Planet Hollywood,” Smith remembers. “I go sit there with those guys, and Arnold says, ‘Young man, I want you to know that you cannot be a movie star only in the United States. You’re only a movie star if they know you around the world.’ They put that idea into
my mind very clearly, and then from that point that’s when I started to make it a point to open in new markets. We went into Russia with ‘I, Robot.’ It used to be a time where you could just have hit movies in the United States, but that’s not the case. So, to me it’s just about taking those laps around the world to maintain that.”
S
o with that kind of global stardom in mind, does that mean Smith will continue easing his way back into acting, possibly with a visit to another popular franchise like “Bad Boys”? Because co-star Martin Lawrence has certainly expressed interest. Smith is not so sure. “I love making those movies. It’s Miami, the tight T-shirt and fast cars,” he says. “But just at this point in my career, the material has to be right. I’m 43. I’m looking at maybe seven more years where I can run and jump a little bit, and then I’m going butt and gut for the rest of my career.” NED EHRBAR METRO WORLD NEWS IN LOS ANGELES

On “Around the World in 80 Plates,” Bravo’s cross between “The Amazing Race” and “Top Chef,” cheftestants travel the world and complete culinary challenges based on the culture of the city they’re in. Though the series is sending its competitors everywhere from England to Morocco, you don’t have to leave your kitchen to add some of the global flair host Curtis Stone says you can bring to any Americana dish. “That’s the great thing about a show like this — there’s all sorts of inspiration to be taken from so many different sorts of people,” he says. Here, Stone shares some lessons he learned abroad.
Italy: Customs are important “The culture in Tuscany was so steeped in tradition, and some of our contestants tried to do
Spice it up Spices add exotic finesse to any meal. “If you're talking about a burger, you can do Thai burgers, Moroccan burgers — you can do all these different things,” Stone says. His top spices for rich flavors: “Around the World in 80 Plates,” hosted by Curtis Stone and Cat Cora, airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo.
stuff that was a little out there — they were just like, ‘That’s not in season right now!’ ‘Basil in a ribollita? Why?’”
France: Explore your food "[In our episode in France] they

taste cheeses and have to identify which are made with sheep’s milk. I think that opens your eyes to be like, ‘Oh, sheep’s milk, cow’s milk, goat’s milk — what’s the difference?’ They also do a wine challenge
where they have to match a bowl of ingredients that have the same aromas that the wine has. Watching something like that makes you think, ‘OK, I’m gonna look out for some of those flavors next time.’”
Thailand: One base, many dishes “In Chiang Mai, they do so much in a mortar and pestle. They use things like galangal, which is similar to ginger, and they use ginger, lemongrass, lime leaves (used similarly to how we use bay leaves), palm sugar, lime rinds, garlic, cilantro, fresh chilies — all that’s pounded together to create this delicious paste. It’s so adaptable, whether it goes in a green papaya salad or a curry.” MEREDITH ENGEL

All bar-goers will recognize them: That girl who should never ever drink alcohol (but does), the power-tripping bouncer at the door, that awkward could-be couple who both need a few shots to loosen up. “These people are frighteningly universal,” says Byron Hatfield, creator of “Bye Bye Liver,” a sketch comedy show about drinking culture. “It’s a play on how we use alcohol to influence our behavior at bars, whether it’s winning over romance or trying to get a laugh out of somebody.” The premise works anywhere — thus the show’s fiveyear success in Chicago, and its spread to eight major U.S. cities. Hatfield adapts the show for each market and has been here for months researching. “In Boston you’ve got a lot of

really nice local breweries, and people drink well,” he says. “There’s nice wine in just regular pubs, which is something you don’t find in a lot of cities.” Hatfield wants to make one thing clear: “The show is a satire, it’s not a celebration of overindulgence. Getting drunk for one night and doing something stupid is funny; getting drunk for the 20th night in a row is not.” The show’s humor will resonate with crowds because it speaks to experiences everyone’s had, Hatfield explains. “I feel like people laugh the most when they’re laughing at themselves,” he says. “And alcohol provides people with ample opportunity to do that.” NORA DUNNE

Rock down to this ‘Avenue’
MARK S. HOWARD
Lyric pulls off an A-grade ‘Q’ The Tony-winning production works surprisingly well in a small theater
“Avenue Q” is a great show, but it’s not something every theater company can do. More than half the cast are puppets, and there’s an overall look to the production that’s both difficult to achieve and costly to capture. Not so for the Lyric Stage Company. Its take on the Tony Award-winning musical is blisteringly funny and also one of the finest productions they’ve ever done. Part of the magic of the Lyric’s production is the brilliant scenic design of Kathryn Kawecki. Even if you’ve seen the show on Broadway, the moment you walk into this theater, you know you’re
NSFW Though “Avenue Q” is a puppet show, it’s not suitable for children. Mature themes, adult language and hot, steamy (but ridiculously funny) puppet sex await you.

about to go someplace unlike anywhere else you’ve ever been. On “Avenue Q” a group of twentysomethings share this city block as they try to navigate their way through early adulthood. Musical awakenings like “It Sucks to Be Me,” “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist” and “I Wish I Could Go Back to College” might feel generation-specific, but they play to the heart and funny bone of everyone. In order for this show to work, you have to believe the puppets are as real as the humans they interact with. The moment John Ambrosino steps on stage, his puppet Princeton

We didn’t really want to talk about how Nicole Kidman relieves Zac Efron’s jellyfish sting in their new film, “Paperboy.” But we needed an excuse to run this photo as large as possible, so here goes: She had to pee on him. And yes, it was awkward. “I don’t think I was supposed to be comfortable,” the actor said at a press conference. “This character is learning the ways of the world. That can be uncomfortable.”
Although he insists there’s no date set for his wedding to Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt has been treating the Cannes Film Festival like a bit of a bachelor party. At a black-tie after-party for his new film “Killing Them Softly,” the actor partied with everyone from Kylie Minogue to Diddy — who stopped by for a congrats drink before getting back to his yacht — and put back some expensive booze. “With Brad’s impending wedding, it almost had the feel of a sophisticated pre-bachelor party, with bottles of $390 Johnnie Walker whiskey and plenty of cigars,” a guest who we assume didn’t arrive by yacht tells Us Weekly. “It was definitely a night for Brad to remember.” You’d think so. But then again, swanky whiskey with Diddy on the Riviera might be Brad Pitt’s equivalent of warm wine-coolers with the cat.

They never make it easy, do they? The Celtics’ inability to close out games once again leads us to a decisive Game 7 in Boston against a 76ers team that now has all the confidence in the world. 1982 flashback? The 76ers did the near impossible 30 years ago, knocking off the fabled Celtics in a Game 7 at Boston Garden.
Weekend slate Boston is playing its best ball of the season, thanks to the starting rotation’s recent improvement. Jon Lester faces Tampa’s Alex Cobb on Friday, Josh Beckett takes on David Price on Saturday and Jeremy Hellickson and Clay Buchholz go head-to-head Sunday. Detroit will see Felix Doubront on Monday.
Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins is confident that his young Sixers can pull off the upset: “I want more. I’m going to get greedy. We’ve fought and worked and gone through a lot. We’ve grown.” Game 7 Since 1982, there have been 60 Game 7s in the NBA. The road team has won just 11 of them.
have just one day off before Game 1 on Monday – that is, if they get there. Three things that have to happen for Boston to advance:
1
OVERCOME INJURIES
The news on Avery Bradley has gone from bad to worse, with The Boston Globe reporting that he’s most likely out for the remainder of the postseason after dislocating his left shoulder multiple times. That’s a huge blow to a Boston team that has thrived off of Bradley’s defense and timely shooting. The Celtics’ two replacements, Ray Allen and Mickael Pietrus, haven’t stepped up the way they need to in Bradley’s absence. Allen is dealing with an ankle issue of his own, but Pietrus is healthy. The C’s will need production from one or the other tomorrow.

Garnett, times are tough. Not only could the Celtics not stop Philly down low in Game 6 — whether it was a Sixers big or a guard — they couldn’t establish a presence on the offensive end either. They were outscored in the paint 4216. Kevin Garnett must also take some blame. He took 20 shots in Game 6. Guess how many came in the paint? Zero. Time to establish something down low.

WHAT’S AT STAKE
Saturday could very well be the last game of the Big Three era. Kevin Garnett becomes a free agent, as does Ray Allen. Danny Ainge has reportedly tried trading Pierce in the past, and we all know he’s tried trading Rajon Rondo. The C’s play their best basketball when their backs are against the wall. Being in front of the home crowd should push them over the top and on to the next round. But then again, who can figure this team out? JIMMY TOSCANO sports@metro.us
