Thompson: Stop trying nonviolent teens as adults Former City Comptroller and mayoral hopeful Bill Thompson, flanked by Assemblyman Karim Camara and City Councilman Fernando Cabrera, called for an end to the statewide practice of charging nonviolent 16- and 17-year-old offenders as adults. According to Thompson, nearly 1,000 New York teens receive permanent criminal records yearly “for acts that in other states wouldn’t even be considered a crime.” New York is only one of two states in the country in which 16-year-olds are charged as adults. Councilman Cabrera took the opportunity to endorse “Billy Thompson” for his “character, charisma and chemistry.” DANIELLE TCHOLAKIAN

Fast-food workers walk out for wages No Whopper. Hundreds of NYC workers protested for more money. Calling for higher wages and the right to form a union, hundreds of fastfood workers walked off the job and staged strikes across the five boroughs Monday as part of a sevencity movement this week. “We don’t get paid enough to pay rent, basic expenses,” said Tanya Hernandez, a 24-year-old mother from the South Bronx who works 36 hours

a week at a Midtown McDonalds. Most workers make $7.25 an hour, minimum wage in New York. Hernandez and several of her colleagues walked out of work Monday morning, launching a series of marches in New York that culminated in a rally at Union Square. The workers called for $15 an hour — roughly double the minimum wage — and the ability to form a union without retaliation. Local politicians joined the workers at the protests. Congressman Jerry Nadler noted the discrepancy between industry

profits and workers’ wages. “These are some of the most profitable companies in the United States,” Nadler said. In response, Scott DeFife, an executive vice president at the National Restaurant Association, said the industry provides 13 million job opportunities to Americans. “Significant additional labor costs can negatively impact a restaurant’s ability to hire or maintain jobs,” DeFife added.

Most diverse FDNY class in history sworn in

The new class is made up of more than 60 percent minorities. / OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano welcomed a 318-person class of new FDNY recruits Monday morning. These “probies,” described by Bloomberg as “the most racially and ethnically diverse class ever,” is sworn in just months after two FDNY members — including Cassano’s son, an EMT — were caught tweeting

racist slurs. “This is, by any measure, an historic day for this department and for our entire city — and you are a true cross-section of New York,” Bloomberg said. Sixty-six percent of the new recruits are minorities, including 37 percent Hispanic and 27 percent African-American. Two percent are Asian. This class also has the

most women in a Fighter class since 1982. The most diverse class prior to this one was in May 2013. The FDNY was unable to hire a class between December 2008 and May 2013 because of court proceedings stemming from a lawsuit alleging the entry exam put minority candidates at a disadvantage. Weiner plummets in newest mayoral poll Sexting scandal. The candidate drops to fourth place in primary race. After admitting he engaged in extramarital online relationships even after resigning, former congressman Anthony Weiner has dropped to fourth place in the Democratic primary race, according to a new poll released Monday. A survey of 446 likely Democratic primary voters showed Weiner with 16 percent of the vote, an eight-point drop in the days following his newest sexting revelations, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. “With six weeks to go, anything can happen, but it looks like former Congressman Anthony Weiner

may have sexted himself right out of the race for New York City mayor,” Maurice Carroll, director of the university’s polling institute, said. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn leads the race with 27 percent of the vote. Public Advocate Bill

de Blasio isn’t far behind with 21 percent of the vote, followed by 20 percent for former city comptroller Bill Thompson. Just over half of likely primary voters surveyed said Weiner should drop out of the race, with another 40 percent saying he should stay in. Despite his statements to the contrary, 65 percent of voters said Weiner’s latest admission is a “legitimate issue.” If Weiner drops out, Quinn leads, followed by de Blasio and Thompson tied for second place. “Don’t bet your paycheck. This is a really goofy election year,” Carroll said of the results. The poll had a margin of error plus or minus 4.6 percentage points.

Philadelphia blast injures eight, destroys three homes Thorough. Firefighters searched the rubble with listening devices to ensure that no one remained trapped. Eight people, including three children, were injured in Philadelphia yesterday when an apparent natural gas explosion tore through a rowhouse under renovation, causing the collapse of three houses. Among those injured was a man who was hospitalized with severe burns and listed in critical condition and a child who had suffered minor injuries, the office of Mayor Michael Nutter said in a statement. Residents reported a strong smell of natural gas after the blast and Philadelphia Gas Works

crews shut off gas to the area, utility spokeswoman Melanie McCottry said. Hundreds of people watched as emergency workers and firefighters went about clearing 15 feet of rubble and debris that spilled onto the street from the collapsed home. One resident of the neighborhood, Diane Schaffer, said the smell of gas had permeated the area since early yesterday morning. After the explosion, she put her son and a neighbor’s daughter in her car and fled the area. “I could hear a guy saying, ‘Help me, help me,’ but when I looked back, I saw two guys running toward him, so I felt OK about leaving,” Schaffer said. “We just sped off.” Early last month, a building under demolition in the city collapsed, killing six people and injuring 14. Scandal. Ex-football coach testifies in Sandusky case The former football coach whose account of Jerry Sandusky molesting a boy in a Penn State shower is at the heart of a cover-up case against former school officials testified at their court hearing yesterday. Mike McQueary told of a series of talks he had with late Penn State coach Joe Paterno in February 2001, including the morning after he spotted Sandusky sexually abusing

a child in the locker room showers. “I had seen Jerry Sandusky engaged in a very bad sexual act, a molestation act, with a minor,” McQueary testified he told Paterno. He also testified that he told other university officials about the incident — including two of the three officials appearing at yesterday’s hearing. None reported it to police. REUTERS

Kerry: ‘Reasonable compromises’ sought in renewed talks

Adding jobs

Amazon.com unveils hiring spree ahead of Obama visit Amazon.com Inc. unveiled a new hiring spree yesterday ahead of a visit by President Barack Obama to one of the Internet retailer’s giant distribution warehouses this week. Amazon said it is looking to fill more than 5,000 new fulltime jobs at 17 of its fulfillment centers across the United States. That’s roughly a 25 percent increase in full-time fulfillment center staff, which currently number more than 20,000 in the country. Amazon has been building lots of new fulfillment centers closer to customers in recent years as the company tries to speed up delivery of online orders and reduce shipping costs.

Peace. Resumption of negotiations is an achievement for Kerry. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called for Israel and the Palestinians to make “reasonable compromises” for peace as he prepared to preside over their first direct negotiations in nearly three years yesterday. “It is no secret this is a difficult process. If it were

easy, it would have happened a long time ago,” Kerry said with his newly named envoy for IsraeliPalestinian peace, former U.S. ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk, at his side. “It is no secret, therefore, that many difficult choices lie ahead for the negotiators and for the leaders as we seek reasonable compromises on tough, complicated, emotional and symbolic issues,” Kerry said. In a sign of the challenges, the parties differed

in public about the agenda for the talks, with an Israeli official saying all issues would be discussed simultaneously and a Palestinian official saying they would start with borders and security. Looted Cannes gems worth $136M, official says it is record heist Again. The theft came two months after two smaller jewelry robberies hit the film festival. An armed robber stole gems worth $136 million in a weekend heist in the French Riviera resort of Cannes, making it the country’s biggest gem theft. The prosecutor’s office in the nearby city of Grasse issued the figure yesterday based on an inventory of pieces seized in broad daylight from a precious Military clash

jewelry exhibition at the luxury Carlton Hotel. It was well over twice initial estimates, which local media had put at around $53 million. The thief burst into the Carlton, on the famed La Croisette seafront, close to midday on Sunday armed with an automatic pistol and with a cap and a scarf concealing his face. He threatened security guards and sales staff and left moments later with a briefcase containing 72 pieces, including jewels, rings, pendants and diamond-encrusted earrings, from a collection belonging to diamond specialist Leviev.

Initial investigations suggested the man may have dropped several jewels as he hurried away on foot via a different door. The hotel was where Alfred Hitchcock filmed scenes from the 1955 film “To Catch a Thief,” starring Cary Grant as a one-time cat burglar. REUTERS Quoted

Who Gets Free TV: Listed below are the NYC area zip codes that can get Free over the air TV channels. If you find the first two digits of your zip code immediately call: 1-888-752-7147 NEW YORK - Today’s announcement by CompTek has the Free TV Hotlines ringing off the hook. That’s because NYC area residents who find their zip code listed in today’s publication are getting Free TV channels thanks to an amazing razor-thin invention called Clear-Cast®. NYC area residents who call the Toll Free Hotlines before the 48-hour order deadline to get Clear-Cast can pull in Free TV channels with crystal clear digital picture and no monthly bills . This announcement is being so widely advertised because a U.S. Federal law makes TV broadcasters transmit their signals in digital format, which allows everyone to receive these over-the-air digital signals for free with no monthly bills. Here’s how it works. Clear-Cast, the sleek micro antenna device with advanced technology links up directly to pull in the Free TV signals being broadcast in your area with crystal clear digital picture and no monthly bills. Clear-Cast was invented by a renowned NASA Space Technology Hall of Fame scientist who currently holds 23 U.S. Gov’t issued patents. For the past 20 years, he has specialized in developing antenna systems for NASA, Motorola, XM Satellite Radio and companies around the world. His latest patent-pending invention, ClearCast, is a sleek micro antenna device engineered to pull in the Free TV signals through advanced technology with no cable, satellite or internet connection and no monthly bills. “Clear-Cast is being released to the general public because we just don’t think people should keep paying for TV when they can get it for free,” said Conrad Miller, Manager of Operations at CompTek. “There’s never a monthly bill to pay and all the channels you get with Clear-Cast are absolutely free. So you see, Clear-Cast is not like cable or satellite. It was engineered to access solely the over-the-air signals that include all the top rated national and regional networks, like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, CW and about 90% of the most watched TV shows like America’s Got Talent, NCIS, 60 Minutes, American Idol, The Big Bang Theory, The Bachelorette, Person of Interest, CSI, The Mentalist, Two and a Half Men, Sunday Night Football plus news, weather and more all for free with no monthly bills,” Miller said. “That’s why Clear-Cast is such a great alternative for everyone who is sick and tired of paying expensive cable and satellite bills every month,” he said. “People who get Clear-Cast will say it feels like getting an extra paycheck every month. You see, with Clear-Cast you’ll receive free over-the-air broadcast channels with crystal clear digital picture, not the cable or satellite only channels. So

being able to eliminate those channels puts all the money you were spending back in your pocket every month,” Miller said. And here’s the best part. The sleek micro antenna device called Clear-Cast is so technically advanced it pulls in even more of the channels being broadcast in your area for Free with no monthly bills. That way you can channel surf through the favorite TV shows. The number of shows and channels you’ll get depends on where you live. People living in large metropolitan areas may get up to 53 static-free channels, while people in outlying areas will get less. That means even if you’re in a rural area that just pulls in NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and PBS broadcasts there’s hundreds of shows each year to watch for free. Consumers report that the crystal clear picture quality with Clear-Cast is the best they’ve ever seen. That’s because you get virtually all pure uncompressed signals direct from the broadcasters for free. Clear-Cast was engineered to link up directly like a huge outdoor directional antenna but in a lightweight, slim-line package. Its sturdy copper alloy and polymer construction will most likely far outlast your TV. It just couldn’t be any easier to get Free over-the-air digital TV shows with ClearCast. Simply plug it into your TV, place

N NEVER PAY A BILL AGAIN: New Yorkers will be on the lookout for their postal carrier because thousands of Clear-Casts will soon be delivered to lucky NYC area residents who beat the 48-hour order deadline and live in any of the zip code areas listed below. Everyone is getting Clear-Cast because it pulls in nothing but Free TV channels with no cable, satellite or internet connection and no monthly bills.

Clear-Cast on a window pane and run autoscan. It works on virtually any model TV and is easily hidden out of sight behind a curtain or window treatment. Thousands of NYC area residents are expected to call to get Clear-Cast because it just doesn’t make any sense to keep paying for TV when you can get hundreds of

shows absolutely free. So, NYC area residents lucky enough to find their zip code listed in today’s publication need to immediately call the Free TV Hotline before the 48-hour deadline to get Clear-Cast that pulls in Free TV with crystal clear digital picture. If lines are busy keep trying, all calls will be answered. N

How to get Free TV: Listed below are the NYC area zip codes that can get Free TV channels with no monthly bills. If you find the first two digits of your zip code immediately call 1-888-752-7147 beginning at precisely 8:30am this morning. Today’s announcement photo above shows just a handful of the major over-theair broadcast networks you can receive with Clear-Cast for free. It saves a ton of money by not picking up expensive cable only channels like ESPN so there’s never a monthly bill. This is all possible because a U.S. Federal Law makes TV broadcasters transmit their signals in digital format, which allows everyone to use Clear-Cast to pull in Free TV channels with no monthly bills. CompTek is giving every U.S. household a 50% off discount to help cover the cost of Clear-Cast. Clear-Cast, the sleek micro antenna device is a one-time purchase that plugs in to your TV to pull in Free TV channels in crystal clear digital picture with no monthly bills. Each Clear-Cast normally costs $98, but U.S. households who beat the 48-hour deadline are authorized to get a 50% off discount for each Clear-Cast and cover just $ 49 and shipping as long as they call the Free TV Hotline at 1-888-752-7147 before the deadline ends or online at www.clear-cast.com. Two weeks after the tragic death of her boyfriend and “Glee” co-star, Cory Monteith, Lea Michele posted a message on Twitter along with this gut-wrenching photo of the two of them taken shortly before Monteith died from a drug overdose. “Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support,” she wrote. “Cory will forever be in my heart.”

THE WORD DOROTHY ROBINSON

Michele has been busy helping Monteith’s family with his funeral arrangements, as well as dealing with the “Glee” cast and crew.

Showrunner Ryan Murphy said that the show is opting to go back into production as soon as possible, thanks to Michele, whom he says “was very adamant that she thought it was best for the cast and crew to get back together sooner [rather] than later so that mortgages could be paid and people could take care of their families. ... She felt people really needed to be together in this time.”

Well, hello there, new artwork for Lady Gaga’s new single, “Applause,” which looks like something Barbra Streisand would do circa 1983. Gaga unveiled this cover on Sunday to Women’s Wear Daily; it was created by photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vi-

noodh Matadin, who also filmed the single’s music video. The single will drop on Aug. 19. “What I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them

touch,” she told the magazine about her inspiration for the single, which is a much better title than just calling it “Clappin’.”

Elsie Porter channels a wife’s deepest fears Fiction. A husband dies nine days after secretly eloping. “Forever, Interrupted” is every newlywed’s nightmare. Tucked into a blissful new life after marrying your best friend, your new spouse will bike to the corner store to buy you Fruity Pebbles, simply because getting you what you’re craving brings him or her joy. In this novel, however, the joy is short-lived: Elsie Porter loses her husband, Ben, nine days after they elope following a whirlwind romance. Ping-ponging between her crippling crawl back to whatever a “normal” life might be and the early days of their courtship, the book is a brisk read despite the heavy subject matter. In the book, Elsie and her mother-in-law (who Ben procrastinated telling about Elsie’s existence) come to terms with losing him, including whether leaving rancid hot dogs in the fridge honors him. Taylor Jenkins Reid tells us why she chose to wreck her characters’ lives in her debut novel. How did you get the idea to do this book? I eloped a couple of years ago, almost five years ago. I only knew my husband for four months before we got married. Obviously getting married in general is a rush of emotions, sort of a crazy time, but to do that with someone you just met, I was very overwhelmed. … [I started thinking,] “What happens if I lose all of this? What happens if he dies?” I just became very, very fearful of something crazy happening and me losing him. Around the same time, I knew I wanted to sit down and start writing a book. My brain had been focused on all of these terrifying things. I thought, “Why don’t I explore this and find out if there’s a

Q&A

This is your first book. Did anything surprise you about the writing process? I had this whole idea when I sat down. I was like, “This is going to happen and then this is going to happen and then this is going to happen.” You start writing, story here?” The unimaginable sorrow is really vivid. Did you lose someone yourself, or how did you get into that space? This fear had been so real and almost visceral for me. Getting to those places, writing the scene when she actually loses Ben and it’s all sinking in for her, it was really easy for me to write because it was basically writing my worst fears on paper. These were things that I had mulled over in my head, and they were second nature to me.

and you suddenly realize that all of the things that you thought might happen, that’s not going to work now that you’ve sat down with the character and started to write. You’ve gotten to know her, you’re like, “She would never do this, that would never happen.” If Alex was 25 minutes late coming home from something, my brain was already going, “What if this is it? What if it’s happening now?” Getting to those places where she’s realizing what she’s lost was sort of finally letting out all these thing that had been driving me insane. I didn’t sit down to write it to make myself feel better about things I was afraid of. I sat down to write it because I had a good story.

Clocking in at three hours and consisting mostly of monologues, Wallace Shawn’s 1996 “The Designated Mourner at The Public Theater is anything but fluff. The death being mourned is that of a “very special little world of precious intellectuals in an unspecified, increasingly totalitarian country. Jack (played by playwright Shawn) is the title character. And his mourning is less than convincing. An aura of erudition hovers over the work, but good luck trying to parse its point or meaning. The first act concentrates on the personal: the relationships among the three characters and others in their circle. Act II is more explicit about the ruthless executions and murders presumably initiated by the government. While deaths abound, nothing really happens in the play. It’s a work of words, not actions. People speak with seeming acuity, often purposefully pointless. “The Designated Mourner is challenging and thought-provoking, to be sure, but many will find it tedious.

‘The Vineyard’ When this show premiered last week, we were under the impression that it was a new drama about a group of vapid 20-somethings working/partying/fighting on Martha’s Vineyard for the summer. Symphonic summer. Less than three hours away from the city lies a classical oasis. Musicians are often known for their extravagant tastes, and when they hit the big time, many employ all sorts of additional help. Diddy was once known to have a valet on his payroll, with his main task to hold an umbrella over the rapper. The Boston Symphony Orchestra isn’t too different. “The players and their families like to swim, says BSO managing director Mark Volpe. “So I guess we’re probably the only orchestra that employs life-

guards. A lifeguard is not quite as frivolous of a way to save a musician from water as an umbrella holder, and when we examine why the BSO has such additional help, it makes more sense. For eight weeks in the summer, the members of the BSO relocate to the mountains of the Berkshires, in Lenox, Mass., where they have a little beach on the 526 acres of the grounds known as Tanglewood. The venue’s history is as rich as the green of its rolling hills. “My office is where Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland had their office for about 35 years, says Volpe. He’s not bragging as much as he’s marveling. “Hawthorne and Emerson

and certainly Melville used to visit the grounds. Tanglewood is about a three-hour drive from NYC. One can easily picture the scenic grounds as the backdrop for a coming-of-age romantic comedy, as many of the players are younger. “You have all of these 24- and 25-year-olds that are pre-professional, and I think the BSO players — I don’t want to speak for them, but there’s no cynicism because they remember what it’s like to be 24 and 25 and incredibly excited about the future and life in music, says Volpe. “You really get that jolt of music, nature and youth. It’s very inspiring.

Nesting while you’re resting Rent it. That mansion on the beach you’ve been lusting for may not be within your price range — but you can pretend. Jet-setting around town and living out of a suitcase may seem glamorous, but it gets old fast. There’s something special about crossing the threshold of a house — the kind of house you don’t usually live in — and making it “home” for a few days. Robert Milne, president of Wyndham Vacation Rentals North America — a company specializing in luxury house rentals — gave us some tips about making yourself at home while you’re on vacation. What kind of folks usually go for rental houses? Typically, our demograph-

ic, as you can probably imagine, is a family. But usually it’s more than just two adults. It’s the mom and dad and maybe the uncle or a friend, because renting gives people an opportunity to invite other friends or family that they might not otherwise. What makes renting a house different from staying in a hotel? I’m a perfect example of it, actually. [My family] rents vacation houses when we travel, and it’s funny how over the years different members of the family invited friends who we never would have thought of inviting if we were going to stay in a hotel. It’s like, even though we’re good friends, I’m not going to invite you to stay in a hotel with me — but it’s different when it is a house. Plus, if you invite your friend along, the cost splits amongst a lot of people and makes it a good value.

Advice •

Book this South Carolina gem at www.wyndhamvacationrentals.com. / WYNDHAM VACATION RENTALS

Sites like VRBO, Airbnb and HomeAway make it easy to rent houses. What makes your company different? One of the bigger differences between the professionally managed properties versus houses managed by owners is that a lot of the owners don’t have the sophistication of software to make sure that

double-bookings and other problems don’t happen. We came up with a “renter’s bill of rights” that we could stand behind as a company. It is a service pledge that promises high standards of customer service, real-time booking, accurate property portrayals and diverse properties with clean, regularly inspected units.

DO: Ask questions beforehand. “We had one guest who showed up at a vacation rental and brought all of their sheets and towels, and they were floored to learn that the house already had linens. I think a lot of it is doing your research and making sure that you find out what amenities there are, too.” DON’T: Obsess about work.“I always remind guests that there is so much to do and see that they should avoid bringing too much work with them. In my experience, staying at a rental means it becomes your home away from home — many of our guests feel the same way.

JULIA FURLAN

julia.furlan@metro.us

Don’t try this at home — try it at your vacation rental. PROVIDED

Try Hilton Head, S.C. Sure, there’s a lot of putting and “fore”-ing among Hilton Head’s numerous golf courses, but the island isn’t just for pastel polo shirts. Visitors can savor locally-sourced delicacies at the trendy Italian bistro, Vine, and get an extra treat when the chef breaks out his acoustic guitar. Lovers of the outdoors can test their balance skills on the gentle waters of Hilton Head with standup paddleboarding, or soar high over the lowcountry trees at ZipLine Hilton Head.

that is in their sights or serving up pizza slices. After working with more than 100 wealthy families, she wrote A Wealth of Possibilities: Navigating Family, Money, and Legacy. Although the book is geared toward families with money, her counsel can apply to parents and children across the board. Perry gave us tips for getting your child to turn off the TV and land a summer job:

Don’t make it optional. Give them two weeks to lie around the house and sleep late — then, if they aren’t employed, tell them you will find one for them (and that it is going to be far less interesting).

Tip

Help them brainstorm all the options. What are they good at? What experiences do they have that are helpful?

Stay out of the actual job search as much as possible. Don’t make the calls for them, line up the interviews for them, pull strings for them. You are trying to teach them resourcefulness and resilience — you can’t be too involved if they are actually going to learn those.

Practical skills are useful. The job doesn’t need to be fancy to be good for them. Waitressing can teach a lot about time management, pacing, customer service and multitasking.

A boss can be a great teacher. If you don’t know the boss, kids get honest feedback and learn to identify what the boss wants in terms of their performance and how to give it to them. Try not to be too fussy about the job or boss. Sometimes the hard situations teach the most.

Burt’s Bees Baby launches Fall 2013 collection What began with just a line of newborn layettes last year is expanding into a line of products and apparel this fall with Burt’s Bees Baby, a full clothing line for babies and toddlers. By spring, you can expect bedding and toys. The fall 2013 line, which is available online at www.burtsbeesbaby. com, offers soft and downy baby layette sets for both boys and girls and a cozy reversible jacket for autumn days ($20), among others. Re: ‘Weiner not held in high regard’ (Metro, July 29) Back in 1955, singer Frank Sinatra was embroiled in a heated argument over the way columnist/emcee Ed Sullivan paid performers on his very popular “Toast of the Town” TV show. Sinatra put an ad in Billboard magazine that said “Dear Ed ... You’re Sick, Sick, Sick!” The same might apply to Anthony Weiner and Elliot Spitzer, whose records of sexual improprieties and philandering are public record. They should not cause any further embarrassment to their families and political affiliation. I implore Weiner and Spitzer to seek help because indeed they are sick, sick, sick!

Re: ‘Weiner not held in high regard’ (Metro, July 29) What does a man cheating on his wife have to do with the way he runs the city? People are so quick to judge others. Whatever happened to forgive and forget? Also, what has he done that hasn’t been good for the city while in office? I could care less what he does and does not do with his wife. How many men have cheated? Maybe they shouldn’t be able to obtain a job either? The women would probably be for that. OWEN DUNCAN, VIA EMAIL

Rex Ryan avoids comparing Revis to rookie Milliner NFL. The Jets’ rookie cornerback arrived in Cortland for training camp yesterday.

After a holdout that cost Dee Milliner the first four days of training camp, the Jets finally came to terms with their firstround pick late on Sunday night. The signing of Milliner, the No. 9 pick in the NFL Draft, means the Jets have signed the entirety of their draft class as they look to overhaul what was a veteran roster a year ago. that being said, there’s always an adjustment playing at this level.” And he certainly didn’t draw any comparisons to Revis, who when healthy is arguably the top defensive player in the NFL. “I tell you what, I hope when he plays there’s those comparisons. I understand where people are coming from, but Darrelle was a special player, and we’ll see how good Dee is,” Ryan said. “Dee Milliner is never going to be Darrelle Revis; he’s going to be Dee Milliner. And I hope that’s good enough.”

Rush hour

Rookie Damontre Moore, left, is one of the new names on the Giants’ defensive line. / GETTY IMAGES

Giants coach excited about revamped rush The Giants’ four-man pass rush has been the backbone of the defense since head coach Tom Coughlin took the reins 10 years ago, but with Osi Umenyiora’s defection to Atlanta, Jason Pierre-Paul’s back ailments and Justin Tuck’s supposed decline, Big Blue’s bite appears to be waning. But defensive line coach Robert Nunn says his defensive line is as

deep and capable as any time he’s led them during his four years here. The team added Damontre Moore in the draft and expects big things from third-year pro Adrian Tracy. “It has to be proven when the pads come on, but yes I do,” Nunn said when asked if he thinks the depth is still there. “We’ve got some young guys [who] have got to show up. They look good when we’re running around out there with no pads on [and] you still see things that make you excited.” TONY WILLIAMS
