One-year-old shot dead in Brooklyn Gang fight. Community leaders say the shooter’s brother and the baby’s father had an old “beef.” The shooting death of a 16-month-old baby boy in Brownsville Sunday evening has left a community shaken and prompted community leaders to call for greater efforts to be made to end gun violence in the neighborhood. Police Commissioner Kelly said 1-year-old Antiq Hennis was being pushed in his stroller by his father, Anthony Hennis, when he was shot in the left side of his head as they crossed Livonia Avenue at Bristol Street in Brooklyn around 7:19 p.m. on Sunday. Anthony was bringing Antiq to visit his grandmother, Lenore Steele, 72. Lenore and Anthony’s aunt, Cheryl Steele, described their horror when Anthony came running up the street carrying the stroller and screaming that his little boy had been shot. “All I remember seeing is the bullet and his brains on the side of his head,” Cheryl said. Cheryl said the baby moved once in his stroller before falling still. Police Commissioner Kelly said that emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and rushed the baby to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Kelly said police found four .45 caliber shell casings on the corner where Antiq was shot, and a fired bullet in front of 360 Bristol St. The stroller had four bullet holes, which appeared to be two entrance holes and two exit holes. Police said Anthony is a known gang member with an extensive arrest history, though he has not served significant time in jail. He would not cooperate with law enforcement, Kelly said, staunchly

Man charged in Bronx hit-and-run Leroy Forest, 31, was arrested in connection with a hit-andrun accident that killed a Manhattan woman around 3 a.m. Saturday. Cops: Woman raped in park A $22,000 reward is being offered for the arrest of the man who allegedly used a Taser on and raped a 69-year-old woman in Forest Park about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 26. The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s. He is approximately 5-foot-9, has light brown hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and black sweatpants. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hot line at 800-577-TIPS.

refusing to answer any questions. Police said Anthony’s reticence led police to believe he was the shooter’s intended target. Community leaders confirmed that, and that the shooting was gang-related. Community organizer Tony Herbert explained the shooting was a result of an old “beef” between the shooter’s brother and

Anthony. Herbert and others with the National Action Network, a coalition of community groups, said they know who the shooter is and were hoping to bring him into the precinct. Shirley Jones-Baisden, a tenant association vice president in a local public housing complex, said she has known Antiq’s mother, Cherise Miller, since she was just 1 year old herself. She said she was with Miller when she learned of her son’s death. Jones-Baisden and the other community leaders present called on the community to rally around the family. “I’m also asking my community to change,” Jones-Baisden said, weeping. “They gotta do better than this.”

A happy baby, always smiling and ready to share Lenore Steele, 72, said she saw her greatgrandson just hours before he was killed, as she was coming home from church around 11 a.m. She said the little boy was all smiles and kisses as usual. He had just learned to walk. “Since he started to walk, oh my god, he was so jolly,” she recalled tearfully. Antiq’s great-aunt, Cheryl Steele, 42, spoke of a baby with “the biggest smile” who loved to eat and was always eager to share.

Convenient timing? Stop-and-frisk has been thrust into the forefront of the mayoral election. The Bill de Blasio campaign lashed out at Quinn for filing the letter a week before the primary. The letter was “a desperate attempt to distract attention from racial profiling.” “The court’s decision, along with the inspec-

her eight-year record of standing with Mayor Bloomberg and Ray Kelly as the overuse and abuse of stop-and-frisk exploded,” de Blasio campaign manager Bill Hyers said. to ending the unconstitutional use of stop-and-frisk in New York City,” Quinn said in a statement about her letter to the court. Arguing the original decision was “rife with errors of law” and might be overturned on appeal, city lawyers asked the judge last week to freeze implementation of the ordered reforms. The city is also appealing the decision. Quinn maintained the city’s request “is a delay ... that would cause irreparable harm to the city and its residents.”

Electric Zoo cut short after deaths The final day of the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall’s Island was canceled Sunday after two people died from apparent drug overdoses. The city and concert organizers announced on Sunday morning that the event had been canceled “due to serious health risks.” Two concert-goers died, while four others became critically ill and were placed in intensive care during the first two days of the festival, officials said.

Condolences

“[We] send our deepest condolences to the families of the two people who passed away this weekend.” Made Event, Electric Zoo founders

The causes of the deaths had not yet been determined, but they both appear to have involved the

drug MDMA, also known as ecstasy or molly. “The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with city officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event,” a statement from the mayor’s office read. Jeffrey Russ, 23, from Rochester, and Olivia Rotundo, 20, from Providence were identified as the two fatalities. LAURA SHIN

Break dancing WE COULD battle champ a BE MORE Brooklyn native CONVENIENT... B-boying. A Brooklynite trounced 15 of the best B-boys in North America at an Aug. 17 competition.

...BUT ONLY IF WE COMMUTED WITH YOU.

B-boying, the original term for break dancing, first blew up in the dance world via the streets of New York City in the 1970s, so it’s appropriate that the crowned winner of the Aug. 17 Red Bull BC One North American Finals was born and raised in Brooklyn.

Miguel Rosario, 24, known as Gravity, earned himself a spot in the world championship in Seoul, South Korea, in November. The Bensonhurst native started break dancing in 2006.

“The break dancing scene in Brooklyn is dope, probably one of the most underground scenes in NYC,” Rosario said. “We have some of the freshest dancers and footwork heads, and I believe we have the rawest scene with the most attitude and aggression.” Rosario got his nickname from his mom. “She told me, ‘Man, when you flip and breakdance, you look like you defy gravity,’” Rosario recalled. “And the name just stuck to me.”

Obama and aides confront Congress on Syria strike

President Barack Obama delivers a statement on Syria in the Rose Garden of the White House on Saturday. / GETTY IMAGES

Decision. Polls show the public is largely opposed to U.S. military action. President Barack Obama and his top aides launched a full-scale political offensive over the weekend to persuade a skeptical Congress to approve a military strike against Syria, but faced a struggle to win over lawmakers from both parties and a war-weary American public. Obama made calls to members of the House of Representatives and Senate, underscoring the task confronting the administration before it can go ahead with using force in response to a deadly chemical attack blamed on the Syrian government. Dozens of lawmakers, some in tennis

shirts or shirtsleeves, cut short their vacations and streamed into the corridors of the Capitol building for a Sunday afternoon intelligence briefing on Syria with Obama’s national security team. When they emerged nearly three hours later, there was no immediate sign that the many skeptics in Congress had changed their minds. Many questioned the broad nature of the measure Obama is seeking, suggesting it needed to be narrowed. REUTERS Quoted

Just what happened with today’s cover? Double take. No, it wasn’t a publishing error. Today’s rather different cover is to bring awareness to this year’s Metro Photo Challenge. Learn how you can enter. If you noticed that today’s cover of Metro was a bit more, well, international than usual, you would be correct. We joined Metros from all of the world — we publish 71 editions in 23 countries — who ran covers today in different languages to bring awareness to this year’s Metro Photo Challenge. We wanted to prove the point that pictures speak a universal language, understood by all (did it work?). The Metro Photo Challenge is the world’s biggest photography competition open to amateurs and professionals alike. For the 2013 Challenge, photographers will “sense” the world through photography, submitting in five categories representing the human senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch), plus an additional “sixth sense,” an open-ended cat-

Snooping. Report: US spied on presidents of Brazil and Mexico The U.S. National Security Agency spied on emails, phone calls and text messages of the presidents of Brazil and Mexico, a Brazilian news program reported, a revelation that could strain Washington’s relations with Latin America’s two biggest nations. The report late Sunday by Globo’s news program “Fantastico” was based on documents that journalist Glenn Greenwald obtained from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. Greenwald, who lives in Rio de Janeiro, was listed as a co-contributor to the report.

“Fantastico” showed what it said was an NSA slide dated June 2012 displaying passages of written messages sent by Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, who was still a candidate at that time. In the messages, Pena Nieto discussed who he was considering naming as his ministers once elected. A separate slide displayed communication patterns between Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and her top advisers, “Fantastico” said, although no specific written passages were included in the report. Fighters. Afghan Taliban target US army base as attacks mount Taliban fighters attacked part of a U.S. military outpost in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar yesterday, officials said, less than a week after targeting a Polish base in a nearby province. Attacks on Afghan security forces and civilians have also mounted this week, killing dozens and adding to fears that the drawdown of foreign troops, most of whom are due to leave the country by the end of next year,

is allowing insurgents to regain lost territory. The attack prompted police to shut part of a highway between the provincial capital and Torkham district near the border with Pakistan, a security source said. The base itself was not penetrated. Three Taliban fighters were killed in the clash, but no others casualties were reported, district governor Isa Khan Zwak said. REUTERS

Singaporean man has 6,000 Barbie dolls Travel. On his last trip to New York, he bought 65 dolls.

The white exterior and spartan grey staircase of Jian Yang’s tidy rowhouse give no hint of the shock that lies within — a pink living room floor and his collection of more than 6,000 Barbie dolls. The 33-year-old Singaporean favors minimalist decor, but the Barbies and 3,000 dolls of other kinds dominate three sides of the main room and spill over to fill nine mirrored cabinets in his dressing room and the shelves of his study. “Incongruous is kind of me,” Yang told Reuters. “When you meet me outside of this, I’m not that kind of guy. I’m not what you expect from a guy that

collects dolls.” Yang has a professional interest in toys and consumer trends as director of strategy at Omicom Media Group. But his Barbie collection began at age 13 when he bought the “Great Shape” model in a turquoise Spandex gym outfit and striped leg warmers. “Before I knew anything about social norms, I was a boy that watched this on TV, liked it and wasn’t allowed to have one,” he said. “As I grew older, got my own allowance, that’s where I started getting the freedom to buy whatever I wanted.” Collection

The self-described “toy nerd” reckons he has spent at least $392,000 over the last 20 years on his collection.

‘Fifty Shades’ movie adaptation casting revealed

CULTURE

Twitter feed We check in with some of Hollywood’s biggest names to see what they’ve been up to — in their own words, in 140 characters or fewer.

Today, Jane Fonda is trying new things and Steve Carell fears his plans are backďŹ ring. @Janefonda: Joined the improv troupe at Upright Citizens Brigade last night. Improv way harder to do than I expected. Fun though @SteveCarell: “Give a Stranger a Smile Dayâ€? results: 23% confused, 34% agitated, 43% annoyed.

Do we still care about “Fifty Shades of Grey? I feel like the publishing phenomenon has already been cast aside to pop culture’s 99-cent bin. But then again, I’ve doubted the force that is middle-aged suburban women who live vicariously through poorly written fictional characters (see: “Twilight) for some time. If you find yourself in the die-hard “Fifty Shades category, you’ll be happy to know that casting for the film adaptation is settled. On Monday, author E.L. James tweeted, “I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia. Less than an hour later, James announced that “Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam will be the male lead. You’ve seen Johnson in “Ben and Kate as well “The Social Network. Hunnam was just recently in “Pacific Rim.

Is Pippa Middleton engaged?

The British tabloid press is circulating rumors that the bridesmaid with the world-famous badonkadonk, Pippa Middleton, is secretly engaged to her 35-yearold financier boyfriend Nico Jackson. The Daily Mail says

that the fashionable couple, who have only been dating for six months, will announce the news after her 30th birthday festivities this Friday. What will we call the couple? Pippco? Nicpa? Or, my personal favorite — Nicopip?

John Mayer is reportedly so serious about his rekindled romance with Katy Perry that he’s already popped the question — but he didn’t get the answer he wanted, according to Grazia magazine. “John won’t run from Katy again. He knows his bad-boy reputation and what happened with Russell [Brand] hurt Katy, and he’ll do whatever it takes to show he’s the one she should marry, a source says. But Perry apparently “doesn’t feel ready to be married again. “John’s proposal really unnerved Katy, the source says.

BOOKS

By the way, this book is 100 percent real Textual satisfaction. “Texts From Bennett” creator Mac Lethal wrote a novel. Two years ago, a Tumblr blog featuring the text messages of a “17-year-old white boy who thinks he’s a Crip, works at Amoco and has a girlfriend named Mercedes” almost broke the Internet. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, we assume you were living under a very large rock in late 2011, because “Texts From Bennett” might be one of the defining Internet memes of our time. The blog turned out to be the creation of Kansas City rapper Mac Lethal, aka David Sheldon, who felt that his wannabegangster cousin Bennett’s lovably crass, inane texts were too good not to share. Now, he has turned the Tumblr into a novel,

Lethal on Bennett

What’s Bennett like in real life? Gentle. Tattooed. Surprisingly supportive in all aspects of life. He’s the type of kid who would rather be happy for your good experience than try to impose his own on you. He has a big heart. ... [He’s] just misled. How is it that Bennett a narrative about Bennett and his mom, Lethal’s Aunt Lillian, living with him for a summer. Lethal checked in from his “Texts From Bennett Tour,” during which he’ll be signing copies of the book and performing live. Did you have any idea this was going to be such an insane phenomenon? I had no idea it would be this huge. The world wasn’t ready for a 17-yearold Crip with the inability to speak coherent English.

If you go

Mac Lethal: Texts From Bennett Tour

didn’t come across the Tumblr right away? People like Bennett don’t have access to the Internet. Bennett goes outside and is social with people. Which is strangely ironic considering all the detractors of the blog just sit around drinking Mountain Dew floats all day, playing “Call of Duty.”

People were weirdly pissed when they found out who you were, and Bennett’s veracity came into question. People get more upset and impassioned about “Texts From Bennett” than they do about me bashing religion or making political statements. ... It’s a wannabe gangster with a stuffed bunny rabbit.

“big titties” because of his newfound fame. Has all this helped or hurt your music career? In 2013, it’s hard to gauge if careers can be helped or hurt. Miley Cyrus is the hottest thing in the world right now, but we can’t say that it’s necessarily helping her. I try not to focus on reputation or keeping track of my blemishes.

How did Bennett react? He just wanted to know if he could get cute girls with

Down the rabbit hole

Interview. Rebecca Hall became a “courtroom junkie while researching “Closed Circuit.’

Rebecca Hall has made a name jumping between theater and film, often playing reserved, even repressed, but always brainy women in “The Prestige, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona, “Please Give and “The Town. In the British thriller “Closed Circuit, she plays a magistrate handling a terrorism case. Researching court proceedings sounds like it has the potential to be quite boring. You’d be surprised. I became a bit of a courtroom junkie. I’m always interested in peoplewatching. And it’s rare that I have something this concrete and a profession that’s entirely new to me to watch.

Quoted

Do you tend to immerse yourself in research and Method acting when taking roles? I don’t really believe in the Method, but I believe in a method, and my method is different for every job. It’s probably much more of the Method than I’d care to admit. It’s a combination of things: saturation in the world of the script and finding the daily life of the character. I’ll do weird,

nerdy things like make a playlist or find each character’s own perfume. There are levels of going down the rabbit hole. And there are jobs I’ve gone far, far down and I don’t know how I’m going to get out. You play a lot of inhibited characters. Is it easier to do that than uninhibited characters? No. Emotionally it’s a lot easier to play uninhib-

ited — characters who everything they’re going through they have it on the outside. It’s easier to let go of, in a weird way, because they get their emotions out. Whereas characters where you have to hold that emotion inside, and you don’t have the catharsis of letting it out — those are the ones where I go home, sit in the corner and want to have a little bit of a cry.

Theater. Talented actors and good music make this a date to keep. Ever been terrified of a first (especially blind) date? You’re not alone. “First Date” writer Austin Winsberg taps into that fear with wit and whimsy. Lyrics and music by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner cleverly reinforce the lingering dread that your companion for the evening might just be a serial killer. After a crisp opening number about blind dates, the play focuses on slightly nerdy, mildly uptight finance-type Aaron (Zachary Levi), who’s waiting to encounter hip and happening, commitment-phobic art gallery worker Casey (Krysta Rodriguez). Initially

they don’t hit it off. And every time they start to connect, something gets in the way. A case in point: Early on, they discover they grew up in the same general area and run through one Jewish-named acquaintance after another. Then Casey says, “Even though I’m not Jewish” and present action stops. All kinds of costumed relations materialize to convince Aaron that this shiksa is not the girl for him. Reminiscent of the dream sequence from “Fiddler on the Roof,”

it’s hilarious. The same device — freezing the action to have friends and relatives give bad advice — is used with finesse throughout the show. It’s the framework for just about every song, most of which are very funny. And its consistency holds the show together. The music is reliably enjoyable, mostly middleof–the road rock, with an occasional harder or folksier riff. The leads are strong singers and throw themselves full-throttle into their characters. The supporting cast of five — Bryce Ryness, Sara Chase, Kristoffer Cusick, Blake Hammond and Kate Loprest — shows great versatility playing a jumble of wackos with zest and humor.

Though it had the edge over most of the weekend, the concert movie “One Direction: This Is Us wound up losing to “Lee Daniels’ The Butler, which threw in a last-second boy band beatdown to become the winner of the North American box office for the third week in a row. “The Butler has raked in sales totaling more than $74 million, $20 million of which came from the fourday Labor Day weekend. “One Direction: This Is Us grossed not much less, with $17 million over the four days. Traditionally, Labor Day (and the start of school) means the end of summer vacations and weekend jaunts to the beach. But as the gorgeous weather con-

tinues to hold out (thanks, global warming!), there’s no reason not to grab the kids or a group of friends for one last getaway. One location that’s easy to visit and especially perfect for families — and conveniently open through Columbus Day — is Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Waterparks in Wildwood, N.J. (www.moreyspiers. com). this shore spot is not quite like any other resort town or theme park city in the nation. Tracing its boardwalkentertainment origins back to 1969, Morey’s Piers is now the largest waterfront theme park in the Western Hemisphere, with more than 100 rides and attractions spanning about two miles of seascape. Between the piers are seemingly endless ice cream and pizza shops, arcades, souvenirs stands and other such carnivalesque fare. If you don’t have the energy to walk up and down all day, you can catch the Sightseer Tram Car for $3 per ride

(but many tourism booths sell reduced-price day and weekend passes). Although the area is primarily geared toward groups with younglings, adults can also have a good time at one of the many local bars and restaurants. Or, of course, you can just enjoy the beach and people-watching, plus the chance to get away from the hustling humdrum of city life just one more time this summer, basking in Wildwood’s all-too-easy-tobelieve fantasy that sunny days are here to stay.

Where to stay While visiting, you can also stay at a property owned by Morey’s, such as Port Royal, which offers apartment-like hotel rooms with balconies, views of the beach, mini-kitchens and plenty of space to spread out. Downstairs is a restaurant, a pool and a kiddie pool, a game room and a quieter lounge spot for parents. When you stay at one of the four participating Morey Resorts (starting at $99 per night), you can get a “Stay and Play package through Sept. 15, which means big savings on unlimited access to Morey’s three piers (Mariner’s Pier, Adventure Pier, Surfside Pier) and two waterparks (Ocean Oasis and Raging Waters).

MR. HARE The dreadlocked designer chats Frank Ocean, getting laid and his vices of choice.

COBBLING A CAREER The old adage, “The shoes make the man,” couldn’t ring more true for Marc Hare. In 2008, the designer lost his job in fashion marketing and went on to create, in his words, “shoes for every moment.” He designs for sybarites and socialites — men with a touch of the playboy about them. Not dissimilar from Hare, really, who has a passion for the sun and surfing. Still, the 42-yearold gets a lot done: Hare has steadily expanded his global footprint from having his shoes stocked on just one website, to global shipping at www.

mrhare.com, to opening his first brick-and-mortar store in September last year in the trendy-meetstrust fund district of Mayfair, London. There are some pretty outlandish men’s shoes out there at the moment, with Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin going down a flamboyant route. Would you ever embellish your shoes that way? It’s a different kind of thing to do what I do, but never say never. Those people have been making shoes for a long time and they put things

into their shoes that I don’t even know yet. I’m just blown away by the technical aspects. You once mentioned that you rarely give shoes away to celebrities. Have you changed your attitude about that? Not unless I have absolute respect for them — it’s quite personal. If I’m inspired by what you do and if what you do raises my daily game, then you can have some shoes. Like Tom Hardy — what a genius actor. Any time of day he can have them. Actually, Frank Ocean would be my ultimate person to

see in my shoes. He has a pair but I’ve just never seen him in them. Women are said to judge a man by his shoes, so will your shoes help get a man laid? It’ll help, but it’s not a done deal. If you’re a dick in my shoes, you’re still a dick. So you’re sitting on the beach: a beer or a spliff? That depends on if it’s legal in that country.

Keep the kids in the kitchen Secret ingredient. Little hands can be a big help when it comes to cooking. Many parents’ intuition might be to shoo children out of the kitchen. But the next time your kiddos are underfoot while you’re making dinner, consider tossing them a task. Cooking with kids can be a great way to bond, create healthy habits and make something great for lunch. Sally Sampson, who created ChopChop, a cooking magazine for families, suggests starting small: Let them pick a vegetable at the farmers market to add to a salad, or throw veggies into a blender to create a smoothie. Kids can also create their own salad dressings. One thing she cautions against? Inviting the help for dessert. Cooking works even with the littlest ones. “You

can describe what you’re doing, Sampson adds. “You can have them hand you carrots. No age is too young. And cooking can be much healthier — and cheaper — than parents might think. Massachusetts program Cooking Matters aims to

help low-income families make delicious, affordable meals. Director Alicia McCabe advises asking children each day whether they ate different colors in the rainbow — for example, if they ate anything green — and making it a daily game. “I think a lot of that

is just getting parents to imagine a slightly different way of doing things, she says. One last tip: Don’t forget to include them in the cleanup.

Plotting out what steps to take next can be a great trait in children. But for many youngsters, this might cross the line into crippling anxiety. Therapist Allison Edwards addresses this in her new book, “Why Smart Kids Worry: And What Parents Can Do to Help. For kids who excel intellectually, she says, the burden of worry can be overwhelming. Business model. Diversifying on campus may be the solution to falling enrollment rates. When Alvin Schexnider took over as chancellor at Winston-Salem State University in 1996, he rubbed more than a few faculty members the wrong way. Schexnider ascended to the chancellor’s office with a vision for radically adapting the historically black college to the changing marketplace of higher education. By 2000 he was gone, five years earlier than he had planned. But Schexnider feels there’s a lesson in this experience for all HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities.) His latest book, “Saving Black Colleges: Leading Change in a Complex Organization,” calls for sobering business-minded alterations to the HBCU model. “I’m not the kind of guy who likes to nibble around the edges. Change doesn’t have to be radical, but it certainly has to be intentional,” says Schexnider. “I didn’t take the time to develop a management team before I made changes, so

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE? when there was a cry, there was no one to take the spear in the chest but me.” Not surprisingly, Schexnider feels these institutions need — first and foremost — a strong president, willing to focus the school’s mission toward greater specialization. He also calls for greater creativity in marketing. Specifically, he believes HBCUs need to market themselves to other races, including whites. “I think it definitely needs to part of the business model. Sometimes there’s a lot of resistance from alumni, but in this new world diversity has to be embraced, not just at majority institutions,” he says. “You can still be a historically black university and embrace diversity. Where I DO agree, although not on who to blame, is that the creation of more jobs is necessary. Cruz back on practice field week before season starts Banged-up backs

NFL. The Giants wide receiver plans to be 100 percent for the Sept. 8 season opener. Giants wideout Victor Cruz predicted he’d be back in the lineup once the real preparation for the season opener commenced this week, and true to his word, No. 80 was on the field and practicing with his teammates yesterday. Cruz, who hasn’t practiced since mid-August after suffering a heel contusion and was seen in a walking boot and on crutches a day later, went through all the drills. “I actually got the clearance [Monday],” said Cruz. “I went in the training [room] and I was like, ‘How

about a little individual today?’ And they was like, ‘You’re cleared to practice today. Just go out there and if you feel anything just let us now.’ So that’s what we did and that’s what they let me do.” Cruz never wavered

from the belief that his injury was a “short-term speed bump” and said his only trepidation going forward is how his heel will react in the days following practices. “He’s a guy [who] knows the offense very

well, so it won’t take any time, timing-wise, to get back on the same page,” quarterback Eli Manning said.

The Giants got down to their 53-man roster over the weekend, with a few question marks surrounding the running back position. With Andre Brown out for a month or more, David Wilson will be carrying the majority of the load. “Don’t get confused by my size, I’m a physical guy,” said Wilson. “I’m from the country, so I grew up chopping wood and building houses with my dad. … I’m well put together.”

Source: Just 10 percent NOTHING BEATS chance Sanchez ready BEING HERE If Brady Quinn is the answer to the Jets’ quarterback situation, then the question must be an awfully discouraging one. It is inside one week before the Jets open the season against the Buccaneers, and there still is no clarity to their quarterback situation. A source close to the situation tells Metro New York that “there is a 10 percent chance that Mark [Sanchez] will be ready to start this weekend.” Sanchez did not practice with the Jets yesterday as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury suffered two weeks ago. Rookie quarterback

Mark Sanchez / GETTY IMAGES

Geno Smith didn’t say if he’s been told he’ll start Week 1, but the focus is squarely on whether Sanchez is available to play.

“I’m trying. We’re making a good push and we’ll see where I’m at,” Sanchez said. “I just want to take this thing slow, take it the right way and make the right progression without reinjuring it.” The Jets signed former Browns and Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn yesterday after he was cut by the Seahawks this past weekend. Head coach Rex Ryan diminished talk that the signing of a veteran like Quinn signals that Sanchez will not be available to play this weekend. Quinn’s contract with the Jets becomes guaranteed for the season on Saturday. KRISTIAN DYER

Santonio Holmes has gone through a tortur-

Federer bounced from Open U.S. Open. The all-time great was knocked out of 2013’s ďŹ nal major by Tommy Robredo. New York fans have never seen Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal play one another in the U.S. Open. And now it’s possible they never will. When the draw came out, the two archrivals seemed destined for their first matchup in Flushing Meadows, a quarterfinal that would have made for an electric atmosphere inside Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday night. But while Nadal was still playing his fourth-round match in Ashe against Philipp Kohlschreiber, Federer shocked the tennis world by losing to Tommy Robredo — a man he had held a 10-0 career record

“I’m trying hard out there, trying to make it work. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen, Federer said after the loss. / GETTY IMAGES Quoted

Are you suffering from

AGONIZING KNEE PAIN? Are you facing the prospect of a knee surgery? AposTherapy is a clinically proven, non-surgical treatment for knee pain, based on a personalized, innovative biomechanical foot-worn device. At AposTherapy, we understand the misery of living with chronic pain and the worrying prospect of undergoing surgery. We have helped many patients to achieve lasting pain relief and to return to do the things they enjoy. The treatment works by bringing your body to optimal alignment, thus reducing the pressure on the painful area in your knee. The device simultaneously retrains and stimulates the muscles while walking, ultimately re-educating the neuromuscular system to adopt a corrected and less painful walking pattern.

Keep doing what you love

Developed by doctors from the fields of orthopedics and sports medicine Non-surgical and drug-free Clinically-proven for lasting pain relief, improvement in mobility and quality of life Highly convenient treatment program that fits easily into your daily routine On-going care for optimal results
