‘Honor banners’ mark Marathon blast sites Tribute. The specially designed banners are a tribute to all of those affected by last year’s bombings, organizers said. In a tribute to all of the people affected by last year’s Boston Marathon bombings, a set of specially designed “honor banners” were unveiled Thursday morning at the sites of the blasts. Typically, hundreds of banners decorate the city in the month leading up to the Boston Marathon, all with the same or similar designs. But for this year’s marathon, in front of Marathon Sports and Forum restaurant on Boylston Street, the “honor banners” will mark the sites where the bombs were placed and where countless people came to the aid of those injured. Helping to unveil the special design were Boylston Street Marathon Sports manager Shane O’Hara and fourtime Boston Marathon champion Bill Rodgers. Mayor Marty Walsh also attended the ceremony. “The Boston Marathon street banners mark the kickoff of a world-class event the city of Boston is so proud to host,” Walsh said in a news release. “This year, we have the opportunity to reflect and draw inspiration from the strength and courage of all those affected by last year’s tragedy – by the heroics of our first responders and caregivers, and by the countless acts of selflessness through-

Gaming commission. Mayor seeks host status for Boston at meeting Mayor Marty Walsh, saying that the residents of Boston deserve a democratic process, asked the state gaming commission to declare the Hub a host community to the two proposed casinos in neighboring cities. Walsh made an appearance at the Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s meeting on Thursday and asked the board members to declare Boston a host community. “Do not cut the people of Boston out of the process, Walsh said. As a host community, city residents would be allowed to vote on the proposals, and Boston officials could reap more financial benefits from the casino that’s awarded the license. Attorney Thomas Frongillo, of the firm Fish & Richardson, is helping to represent the city in the process. “The city’s position is that it is a host community, he said, adding that the expanded gaming law doesn’t address the issue, therefore commissioners must decide on it. Wynn Resorts is proposing a casino in Everett, and Mohegan Sun has pitched a casino for Revere. The Mohegan Sun plan came after East Boston residents voted down a casino
Making his case Speaking before the gaming commission on Thursday, Walsh made his case that Boston is a host community to both the Wynn and Mohegan Sun proposals. •

Officials probe Chinatown construction site collapse Two people injured. Authorities are looking into what caused seven floors to partially collapse. A building that is currently under construction in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood partially collapsed Thursday morning, sending two workers to the hospital. The Boston Fire Department responded at 8 a.m. to 45 Stuart St., where a structure partially collapsed from the 12th floor to the fifth floor. The structure is being built into a 33-story highrise apartment building. Boston EMS treated and transported two construction workers who were injured at the site to Tufts Medical Center. One suffered a serious head injury, while the other sustained a

minor injury of an unspecified kind. The remaining construction workers were evacuated from the scene and moved to LaGrange Street, where they performed a head count to ensure there were no other victims. There was no word Thursday as to what caused the build-
ing to collapse, but Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and state and city building inspectors are investigating. MORGAN ROUSSEAU @MetroMorgan

About 120 laborers, iron workers and carpenters were working on various floors at the time of the collapse, according to the Boston Fire Department. After the collapse, workers added supports from the ground to the fifth floor, where there was debris from the collapse. AvalonBay, a real estate company, is in charge of the construction project. The company’s Senior Vice President of Development Michael Roberts said in a statement, “We are fully cooperating with the Fire Department investigation and are in contact with representatives of OSHA.”

Book to movie. The ‘Divergent’ movie hews pretty close to the novel
The attraction between Tris and Four builds almost as slowly onscreen as it does in the book. / SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT
Any time a movie based on a best-selling book comes out, waves of criticism follow about the differences between the two. But now that “Divergent is (finally) in theaters, readers will be hard pressed to find inconsistencies. The movie sticks extremely close to the book: The characters look like they should, postapocalyptic Chicago is as bleak as described, and the sexual tension between Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) is as thick as author Veronica Roth intended. When we spoke with Maggie Q, who plays Tori, she told us that while Roth was on set most of the time, she kept her opinions to herself. “She’s just so thrilled that all this is happening, she says.

In a past interview, Woodley mentioned that the book is 400 pages and the script is 90 pages, so of course some things are left out. This presents itself primarily in some of the interrelationships between the characters. The romantic relationship between Christina (Zoe Kravitz) and Will (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) is boiled down to a fun flirtation. Al (Christian Madsen) also plays a much smaller part than in the book, not really forming any close friendships. Still, the elements of the book that matter most are truly brought to life. For fans of the book, seeing the movie will be far from a letdown — it will be a sweet reward. EMILY LAURENCE

Cameron Diaz is not the most secure
Cameron Diaz sure is a Debbie Downer. “Everybody has been cheated on, everyone will be cheated on. I can’t fix that, I don’t know how, Diaz tells the British edition of OK! Magazine. Is Naya Rivera morphing into a Kardashian?
When we talk about “Glee star Naya Rivera’s breasts, in detail, as we’re about to do, let’s agree on one thing: She’s always been a surprisingly busty girl. Those sporty uniforms that she and Dianna Agron rocked for so long on “Glee did a pretty good job of hiding the headlights, but if
you look at red carpet photos, you can tell that Naya’s curves were always there. However, there are curves, and then there are curves. Rumors are spreading that Naya had recently gotten some surgical enhancement after she posted this beach pic on her Instagram, rocking some

Keytar Bear in Government Center Arguably the most recognizable street performer in Boston, Keytar Bear requires no introduction. Like most bears, he prefers to communicate through his music and Twitter feed, as opposed to human speech. Nonetheless, he graciously granted us an interview at Faneuil Hall.
What’s it like to be a viral sensation on the blogs and the Facebooks ‘n all? I don’t think I’m that. ... I just feel like a ghost, really. You’re dead, but you’re there, y’know? A lot of people know you, but you don’t know anybody. I feel like I’m looking out a fish bowl all day. You know when you come to somebody’s house, and the fish are swimming ‘n s---?
When is your birthday? Keytar Bear was born Oct. 31st, and he’ll probably die around April. Before Mother’s Day, Keytar Bear will be dead. Oh no! Why? Because it’s going to be too hot to wear this s---. When did you start playing keytar?

President Obama cannot make up his own mind by himself. It has become painfully obvious that he wants to delay as long as possible and then distance himself from whatever decision is finally made. Obama also needs to decide if we are to export natural gas to Europe to counter the Russian stranglehold. The decision must be made quickly if we are to influence events in Ukraine. I am convinced that [Russian President] Vladimir Putin would take notice if the pipeline were approved, and Obama would approve

No. 12 Harvard upset AAC regular-season champion and No. 5-seed Cincinnati, 61-57, in the second round of the NCAA tournament Thursday. “I’ve heard this before where there really aren’t upsets anymore, head coach Tommy Amaker said. “There may be some surprises, but I just think when you’re looking at seeds and if you’re playing this time of year, you’re probably a pretty good basket-

Friday schedule
ball team. Harvard led by seven points at the half and looked like the superior team throughout despite a tough game for Siyani Chambers. The star point guard had 11 points on 2-for10 shooting, including 1-for-6 from 3-point range. Harvard’s defense did a good job of limiting AAC firstteam guard Sean Kilpatrick. He led all scorers with 18 points, but was just 6-of-13 from the field and committed five turnovers. Harvard, who lost to Arizona in the third round in last year’s tournament, will take on Michigan State on Saturday. The Spartans are many experts’ — and Harvard graduate school alum Barack Obama’s — pick to win it all. MARK OSBORNE @MetroNYSports
