Student stabbed, another arrested in Cambridge A Cambridge Rindge & Latin School student was stabbed allegedly by a classmate during a fight at the school Tuesday morning. Cambridge police were called to the high school about 8:45 a.m. when two girls became involved in a fight that resulted in one of them being stabbed in the shoulder. The student was taken to a local hospital for a minor injury. Police arrested the other student, Jasmine Genty, 19, of Cambridge, and recovered a knife. METRO

Lottery plans $30 scratch ticket The Massachusetts Lottery next month will launch a $30 instant ticket — the highest priced ticket in the agency’s history — with a top prize of $15 million. Known as “World Class Millions,” the game’s top prize will be the highest scratch-and-win payout ever offered by the agency, officials said at a meeting Tuesday. Overall, the game will pay out more than $600 million in cash prizes. Ticket sales will begin at the end of April. Massachusetts will become the 14th state to offer a $30 instant ticket.

Arrest warrants were issued for Domingo Mendes, 22, of Belmont and Taylor Poulin, 21, of Newton, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said on Tuesday. METRO

Holding a broomstick-type pole in his hand like a javelin and moving toward a state police trooper, Ibragim Todashev was shot three to four times by an agent for the FBI who then shot him multiple times again when he allegedly lunged at officers, according to a prosecutor’s report released Tuesday. Todashev was being questioned by Massachusetts State Police troopers and the agent about his involvement in a 2011 triple murder in Waltham. He allegedly was about to sign a document implicating himself when he suddenly flung a coffee table in the air, striking the FBI agent in the head. He then ran toward the kitchen and raised a pole

interrogation with authorities. An autopsy report included in the release of documents concludes that Todashev was shot a total of seven times. Questions lingered for months about exactly what led to the shooting and about the interview and whether authorities were there to question Todashev about the bombings or a 2011 triple homicide in Waltham. Guilty plea. Attorney admits to drug smuggling An attorney from Quincy pleaded guilty on Tuesday to smuggling drugs into a courthouse last year in an attempt to get them to an inmate. Michael Lustig, 45, pleaded guilty to attempting to distribute drugs, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office. He was sentenced to a probationary term of 18 months during which he will have to undergo drug and alcohol treatment, testing and counseling. Authorities said detectives received information that Lustig intended to deliver

drugs to a Chelsea District Court inmate who was not his client. They received a court order to search him and did so when he tried to bypass court security using his identification when he said he was there to see “a friend,” authorities said. Inside an envelope with the inmate’s name were Suboxone tablets, authorities said. Before being opened, the envelope was given to the judge who issued the order so as not to violate any potential attorney-client privilege. MICHAEL NAUGHTON

Because of the Boston Marathon, stations along Boylston Street in Brookline and Boston will not be installed until after the April 21 race. OďŹƒcials outline plans for MBTA fare hike MBTA fares will increase by between 4 and 7 percent on nearly all service options, rising 10 cents for bus and subway rides, according to a plan detailed on Tuesday that state officials will present to the public.

The average 5 percent fare increase would go into effect July 1, generating $20 million to $24.5 million in new revenue and helping the Transportation Department meet the new requirement for generating a larger portion of its own revenue — which was part of the 2013 law raising gas and tobacco taxes. Students and people with disabilities will receive some

breaks. Fares for The Ride, door-to-door paratransit service, will stay steady, while the MBTA will offer a sevenday student pass for $26, a $2 discount from the current cost of a seven-day pass. The T will also offer a five-day student pass for the same price, which is a $1 increase. A public comment period will be held before a plan is finalized. SHNS

The company that makes the controversial alcoholic beverage Four Loko agreed to a multi-state settlement over allegations of deceptive marketing practices and will pay $400,000, it was announced on Tuesday. Massachusetts was one of 19 states, as well as the city of San Francisco, that

took part in the settlement with Phusion Products, LLC, according to Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office. The attorneys general of those states accused Phusion of unlawfully marketing the flavored malt beverage, as well as promoting the misuse of alcohol by underage consumers and failing to disclose the effects of drinking alcoholic beverages combined with caffeine. President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that U.S. intelligence agencies were not snooping on ordinary citizens, but admitted it would take time to win back the trust of European governments and people after revelations of extensive U.S. surveillance. Former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden’s disclosures about the sweep of the National Security Agency’s monitoring activities triggered a national debate over privacy rights but also damaged relations with some European governments. Obama said one of the aims of his trip to Europe this week was to reassure allies that

Handily, Boston Design Week coincides with the time of year when many people move into new homes or, after a shut-in winter, ache to re-imagine their living space. One event, Crafting an Environment, at New England-founded furniture maker Thos. Moser’s Boston showroom, offers a look into some of the basic tenets of design via a panel discussion featuring several Boston-based designers. Note that title, though: crafting — not creating — an environment. The difference is not just a buzzword, as everything from a burrito to a beer is supposedly “crafted” nowadays, but a more thoughtful approach to living. “It’s quite a provocative title,” says Adam Rogers, Thos. Identifying a few objects that speak to you, things of value and meaning that establish a certain feel or vision, is key,” advises Rogers. It’s the opposite of the disposable culture that grew from 1950s mass consumerism. Before that, household items were handmade and valued, passed on through generations. “Interestingly, these are values understood by the millennial generation,” Rogers says. “They will pay more for a pair of shoes that are well made or a table that is handcrafted. Like our design principles, it’s a process of careful selection instead of being inundated with superfluous materials.”

Botox helps asthma sufferers Location of study: Australia Study subjects: 11 patients with treatment-resistant asthma and abnormal vocal cord movement Results: Study participants received a total of 24 unilateral vocal cord injections of Botox, which caused temporary muscle paralysis. Subject response was then assessed using asthma control test scores and CT imaging of the vocal cords. The study found that Botox injected to one vocal cord resulted in improved asthma control and reduced narrowing of the upper airway. Significance: For many asthma patients, vocal cord dysfunction is a debilitating condition that causes difficulty breathing and muscle spasms. Botox injections could represent a major step forward in treatment.

More women than men at risk for obesity-fueled depression Location of study: India Study subjects: Almost 2,000 obese adults Results: It’s well established that obesity leads to a host of physical health issues. But what role does obesity play when it comes to mental health? A recent Indian study found that obese women are more likely to develop depression when compared to obese men. Significance: While obese men were two times as likely to be depressed as men who were not obese, the numbers were much different among women. In fact, obese women were found to be 39 times more likely to suffer from depression when compared to women of

Saturated fats not as bad as we think? Location of study: Worldwide Study subjects: Participants from 27 clinical trials and 49 population studies Results: A report in the Annals of Internal Medicine is questioning the fact that saturated fats are deleterious. The report says that comprehensive research hasn’t found any evidence to clearly support the current cardiovascular guidelines, which encourage a low consumption of saturated fats. Significance: Saturated fat may have more of a neutralizing effect when it comes to heart disease. An NPR report says it’s actually been shown to up good cholesterol and lower triglycerides when compared to carbohydrates.

Sore throat, neck mass among first symptoms of throat cancer Location of study: U.S. Study subjects: 88 people with oropharyngeal cancer Results: Researchers from the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance found sore throat and neck mass to be the most common initial symptoms of a rapidly increasing type of oral, head and neck cancer known as oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). Researchers say that HPV (human papillomavirus) is largely responsible for the increase in cases. Significance: Researchers say that many nationally used textbooks and products used by medical and dental students do not include throat cancer as a possible finding in someone

C’s Sullinger pulling for Heat center Oden NBA. Jared Sullinger is excited that fellow Ohio State product, Greg Oden, is getting his career on track. Jared Sullinger was sitting about 5 feet from one of the televisions in the Celtics locker room with a smile on his face. He was checking out Miami Heat game footage, focused on one particular player on the court: Greg Oden. Oden is making his NBA comeback after knee issues have plagued his career from the start. Drafted No. 1 overall in the 2007 NBA Draft, Oden has only played in 103 career games. Regardless, the big man is now contributing on an NBA team looking to threepeat this season. Sullinger sees the improvement in his fellow Ohio State alum. “I’m excited for him, honestly,� Sullinger said. “Greg went through a lot, he went through a lot of struggles but Back on track

Oden now lives in Columbus, Ohio, the same place Sullinger grew up. “He’s a couple years younger than me, but we’ve been cool,� Oden said of Sullinger. Oden told us that he had a couple of meetings with the Celtics when he was a free agent, but it just didn’t work out at the time. “I would love playing with Greg,� Sullinger said, also stating that his former coach at Ohio State, Thad Matta, would love it more than anybody. A custody agreement was reached Tuesday for the 5-year-old granddaughter of Red Sox TV analyst Jerry Remy. The family of the late Jennifer Martel will receive guardianship of Arianna Remy. Jerry Remy and his wife, Phoebe, had been seeking custody of Arianna. Remy’s 35-year-old son, Jared, is currently being held without bail as he awaits trial for the murder of his former girlfriend, Martel, who was brutally stabbed to death last August. Jerry and Phoebe Remy will have visitation rights, according to The Boston Globe. METRO
