Cops arrest man wanted in child’s fatal stabbing Caught. The NYPD arrested Daniel St. Hubert on Wednesday in the case of a stabbing attack that left one child dead. Minutes after authorities named him as a suspect, police said detectives in Queens tracked down Daniel St. Hubert and arrested him in connection to the stabbing death of a boy in East New York.

NYPD said late Wednesday that St. Hubert, 27, was collared by detectives shortly after 8 p.m. near 145th Street and 133th Avenue in Queens and taken to the 106th Precinct station house.

At nearly the exact same moment, Mayor Bill de Blasio joined Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams to release St.

Hubert’s wanted poster. “The human dynamic is so deeply moving and disturbing,” de Blasio said. “These parents are in such pain now, as a parent myself, my heart goes out to all of them.” Authorities disclosed Hubert’s name in connection to the death of P.J. Avitto, 6, and severe injuries to Mikayla Capers, 8, on Sunday at the Boulevard Houses. Bratton said investigators had not yet conclusively linked St. Hubert to Friday’s stabbing of 18-year-old Tanaya Copeland.

“We have not ruled him on the Friday night stabbing of the 18-yearold,” Bratton said. St. Hubert was released on parole on May 23 for a domestic assault and had nine prior arrests. Boyce said he has also displayed a history of violent behavior, having attacked a police officer and corrections officer. Boyce declined to say if St. Hubert was considered as emotionally disturbed. Bring your crazy collectibles to 234 W. 42nd St. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Even if you don’t make a sale, you might still receive an “oddpraisal” of your unique item from Vice President of Exhibits and Archives Edward Meyer. a replica. We like to be able to say you can’t see it anywhere but Ripley’s. Visual appeal is only a major concern if we are talking about a potential “lobby” piece to help sell a ticket. The backstory for all items is important, but not as important with things that are visually top-grade. What are the best and worst things about

your job? Well the best thing is definitely meeting the individuals that create the oddities we buy and tell us their unbelievable stories — which we use on our website, in our books or in our newspaper cartoon feature. The worst thing is not being able to acquire something because of size alone. For example, I have been offered a space capsule, a whole house made from newspapers, a handmade roller coaster — all things I would have loved to acquire. What’s in it for the seller? I often tell people I can make them famous, but

not necessarily rich. Everyone gets credit — unless they don’t want it. Being able to tie a name and a place to an object gives it credibility. We also have lifetime odditorium passes and framable “Certificates of Recognition” that we give to our contributors. Why do people love Ripley’s? People are fascinated by what they don’t know, and once they have witnessed it in person, they can’t wait to tell someone else about it. People always want to prove their cool level by being able to say “Did you know?” — or, even better, “Believe it or not!” T. MICHELLE MURPHY

A man stabbed multiple times early Wednesday morning at a Manhattan subway platform is expected to recover from his injuries. Police said the 53-year-old man was found bleeding and unresponsive in front of subway stairs at West 18th Street and Seventh Avenue in Chelsea at around 5:30 a.m.. Investigators believe the man was on the southbound 1 train platform when he may have been in some sort of verbal altercation with more than one person. At some point, the fight reportedly got physical and the man was stabbed. Authorities have made no arrests. The investigation is ongoing. CHESTER JESUS SORIA

Hugged by construction, a 6,000-square-foot field with blooming crimson clovers has appeared on the Brooklyn waterfront, down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass. The John Street Pasture, a temporary “living earthwork” opening in DUMBO this Saturday, is a celebration of the transitional nature of urban land on a former parking lot and future condominium. “People will interpret it in many different ways. The most important thing is for them to enjoy it,” said artist and farmer Andrea Reynosa. In some ways, the pasture is a preview for a new section of Brooklyn Bridge Park expected to be completed next year. Bordered by the park’s construction, the John Street Pasture offers views of the Manhattan skyline from a site formerly owned by Con Edison. “This is the first time people can walk on this site and enjoy the views of the

two murders, 19 nonfatal shootings and 50 shooting incidents between residents at the two houses. The arrests came after what authorities described as a more than four-year investigation between the Manhattan DA’s Office’s Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit and the Police

Department’s Gang Division. “The deadly and dangerous feud between the Manhattanville and Grant Houses dates back decades,” Vance said Wednesday. “In the last four years, it has escalated into a bloody turf war marked by violence for the sake of violence.” The indictments identified three gangs in the turf war: the Make it Happen Boys, Money Avenue and 3 Staccs. Vance said that at least 50 illegal guns were used during the shootings. “The many law-abiding members of the communities afflicted by this violence are now walking on safer streets,” Bratton said. Queens. Gym teacher faces charges of sex with second student A high school gym teacher already accused of raping a teenage student in Queens last summer was arrested a second time on Tuesday evening in connection to a second accusation. The Queens District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that it rearrested Joy Morsi, 39, after it learned of a sexual encounter between her and a 16-year-old boy on school property as late as last weekend. Morsi worked at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens as a physical education instructor until the allegations of her first reported tryst with another student between June and July of 2013. “These are serious accusations in which a schoolteacher — who should serve as a role model to students — is instead accused of using her position to gain access to children for her own gratification,” Queens DA Richard Brown said on Wednesday.

Role model Joy Morsi, 39, was charged Tuesday morning with raping a 16-year-old student. •

She was arrested again Tuesday night and charged with raping a second student.

Morsi worked at Grover Cleveland High School.

She was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and a count of endangering the welfare of a child. Those are in addition to Tuesday’s 20 counts of third-degree rape, 20 counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, Morsi faces up to four years in prison for each alleged victim. Her next court appearance is still scheduled for June 23. CHESTER JESUS SORIA

Warning. ‘Red alert’ as Alaska volcano erupts with new intensity An Alaska volcano that has been spewing ash and lava for years began erupting with new intensity this week, pushing a plume of smoke and ash as high as 24,000 feet and prompting scientists to issue their highest volcanic alert in five years, authorities said. But the intense action at the Pavlof Volcano, located in an uninhabited region nearly 600 miles southwest of Anchorage, has so far not disrupted any regional air traffic, thanks to favorable weather that has made it easier for flights to navigate around the affected area. Still, the eruption was intense enough for Alaska Volcano Observatory scientists to issue their first red alert warning since 2009, when the state’s Mount Redoubt had a series of eruptions that spewed ash 50,000 feet. “This means it can erupt for weeks or even months,” observatory research geologist Michelle

Geologists first issued the alert late on Monday. Since then plumes reached as high as 24,000 feet on Tuesday morning.

Coombs said of the warning. “I don’t think we will be at red for that long, but we are expecting it to go for a while based on its past.” Coombs said affected

areas are uninhabited except for some hunting destinations. Plumes are created when lava bursts from the crater of the 8,261-foot volcano, then falls back on glacier ice, Coombs said. “Right now, with the weather clear, it’s just putting on a good show,” Coombs said. “We’re getting a lot of pilot reports and a lot of good photos, so we’re able to keep a good eye on it.” REUTERS

OMG! Flying fur: New study reveals what pet preferences mean The question of whether you’re a cat or dog lover reveals a lot about your personality and intelligence. A recent study of 600 students by Carroll University in Wisconsin shows that cat owners tend to be “nonconformist and more clever, while people with dogs were livelier and more extroverted. Although feline friends came out on top in the brain-versusbrawn contest, 60 percent of the research group identified themselves as dog fans compared to a meager 11 percent for cats. The study’s lead author, professor Denise Guastello talks

to Metro about matching your personality to your perfect pet. Should picking a pet be like trawling through a dating website to ďŹ nd a perfect match? It could be a good idea but it would involve the measurement of each dog’s personality including all the individual variations. For example, my daughter has a very calm Old English sheepdog puppy but some from that breed are very energetic. So how can this study help people in the

real world? Perhaps in pet adoptions. A survey could be developed based on the findings of this study and others to measure if a person fits the profile of a cat or dog person. Women are sometimes termed cat ladies, so can parallels be drawn between gender and pet preference? Females were more likely to report themselves as being cat people, but there was no gender differences in people reporting themselves as dog people. EDWARD THOMPSON/MWN

Kourtney Kardashian is preggers Wouldn’t it have been perfect if Kim had gotten pregnant on her honeymoon with Kanye? Well, it’s probably too early to know that, but her sister Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant with her third child. And yes, it’s Scott Disick who’s the father again, so the story is not really that interesting. Sorry! Sources told Us Weekly that the reality star is only a few months along, so I guess we’ll still have to wait a little while to see the baby bump. LASSE E. KRISTIANSEN

Thurman and Tarantino? Sure!

Fiction” 20th anniversary celebrations corresponded nicely, as she is reportedly now dating director Quentin Tarantino, according to Us Weekly. “They had a thing and got together again recently. He’s loved her for years,” a source says of Tarantino, who shared a villa at Cannes with Thurman last

month. “There has always been an attraction. She has indulged him from time to time, and that’s how their relationship has always worked.” The old friends apparently came together to comfort each other in the wake of their recent breakups and just naturally fell in together.

At this point, we’ll soon be able to put out a compilation album of songs written about John Mayer. His most recent ex, Katy Perry, tells Cosmopolitan that fans shouldn’t be surprised to hear some tunes on forthcoming albums inspired by their breakup. “There’s no bad blood, but I’m sure there will be inspired songs,” she tells the magazine. Taylor Swift, another of Mayer’s exes, also penned a tune or two about the singer. Mayer, for his part, isn’t too worried about the output. “I have super-strength for gang-ups,” he tells TMZ. “I’m fine. That’s what you’re supposed to do, man. You’re supposed to write songs. You’re just not supposed to tell everybody you’re doing it.”

See more at www.metro.us The first thing you learn when you talk to Bill Paxton is that the man likes to talk. It’s best to just let him go, which seems to be what Hollywood has been

doing lately as well, most recently with “Edge of Tomorrow,” a sci-fi action film that finds the actor as a gung-ho commander happy to take his crew into a battle with angry aliens. Why this is a phoner: We’re talking from

Durango, Mexico — old Mexico, the land time forgot. This is a really old, old town, and I didn’t realize much about it aside from the fact that it was a famous movie town for John Wayne and Sam Peckinpah back in the day. We just started shooting “Texas Rising,” a

new miniseries for History [Channel]. It’s kind of their first big follow-up to “Hatfields and McCoys.” It’s the same producers, but this time we’re helmed by the great Roland Joffe. Really digging his chili. On finally seeing ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ — in Mexico:

On the legacy of his ‘Game over, man, game over’ line from ‘Aliens’ Hell, that’s one I’ll never

live down. It’s certainly a beloved character, and it’s amazing to think that after all this time that each generation discovers “Aliens” and embraces it. It’s kind of

like the “Wizard of Oz” of sci-fi movies. You might want to skew that a little different. [Laughs] It’s nice when you can satisfy the hardest critic of all, and that’s time.

What I’ve heard is it’s playing like gangbusters. I haven’t seen it. I’m going to see it. Down here it’s called “Al Filo del Manana” — sounds like “I’ll feel you up tomorrow.” [Laughs] On the film coming out on the 70th anniversary of D-Day: Weirdly enough, I think that fell on a coincidence. When they’re picking those dates, they’re not picking them for historical significance. [Laughs] I think the reason Warner Bros. is down-playing that is out of respect. This has a very similar setup, but I think they didn’t want to exploit that. You’ve got this alien horde who have taken Europe, much like the blitzkrieg of the Nazis, and now the Allies — or the Federation, I forget what the hell we’re called — we’re spearheading a counter-invasion out of England, which of course means Normandy. That wasn’t lost on me and Tom [Cruise] while we were shooting it, but it just happened to fall on that date. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.lu

He’s such a big ‘mensch’ Interview. Shep Gordon may be an obscure figure, but a new documentary shows he knows everyone. The subject of “Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon” isn’t a household name; he doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page. But as the documentary, directed by longtime friend Mike Myers, shows, he’s one of the Zeligs of the entertainment business. He knows everybody and everybody knows him. He was instrumental in starting the careers of Alice Cooper, Teddy Pendergrass, even Anne Murray, as well as producing movies, turning chefs into celebrities and much more. You used to be the one stopping people from bugging celebrities. What’s it like being the one who gets bugged? I don’t have that kind of fame whatsoever, but in cities that have festivals I’ll

get an occasional person who comes up to me. This girl came up to me recently, who was very sweet and had seen a screening, and she wanted to talk to me about some serious issues. And I had to get to this meeting. So I had to make a choice between keeping this person with whom I had a meeting waiting or being a bit of a jerk to someone who really wanted to talk to me. It made me realize what artists I managed had gone through. Did Myers have to do much coaxing to get you to do this? I said no for years and years and years. It was only when I was in the hospital that I said yes. I was probably heavily medicated. What things would you change about the film? I felt that I was given too much credit in the early days of Alice [Cooper], which is why I’ve been crediting Joe Greenberg, who was my partner. I come across like I did everything. I truly had people who helped me everywhere, and he was the

No longer kids, but still ready to tour Interview. Bruce McCulloch talks reuniting the kids of Kids in the Hall. For the first time since 2008, the Kids in the Hall are touring. Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson make up the Canadian comedy troupe, which has gained a loyal cult following since their offbeat sketch show premiered in 1988. We spoke with Bruce McCulloch about the Rusty and Ready tour and their writing process now that the kids aren’t quite kids anymore.

The Kids in the Hall are on tour now. No New York dates are scheduled yet, but you can see them in Philadelphia at the Merriam Theater (250 S. Broad St.) June 8. / PROVIDED

You’ve written a lot of new material for this tour, but will we also see a few favorite characters

return? We got together in Toronto in December and did all new material. From there we picked out our favorite pieces. But yes, there will be new things from characters that people know, so it’s a twofor. I think it’s a good mix of both new material and favorites. Now that you guys are a little older, what’s influencing your writing? We’re influenced by all the weird people that we meet in the world. We wrote a piece about Quoted

foodie culture. That’s something we wouldn’t have written about 10 or 20 years ago. And now we write less about breaking up with girlfriends. Are you ever surprised by the waves of new, younger Kids in the Hall fans? Yes and no. I always find strange old music to get into, but I wasn’t there the first time around. I think we connect with weird outsiders, of which there is a new generation born every day. I’m just more shocked that anyone comes to see us, actually. It’s amazing that we can go to cities and fill up a theater. I’m very touched that people are interested at all. JULIA WEST @metronewyork letters@metro.us

Matchmaker Q&A

Julia What’s the hardest challenge that your clients overcome? New clients must learn to relinquish control to the matchmakers, as the idea of “mystery date” can be quite nerveracking. In order for the matchmaker to introduce the client to the best match, the client has to be open and honest with the matchmaker. Building trust can take time, so we should have open and ongoing communication. How is Tawkify different from other dating services? Tawkify does not charge a flat fee in the thousands. We’re a monthto-month service, just like Match.com — except there is NO ALGORITHM. All of us matchmakers have unique backgrounds and bring our own perspectives to matching. The Tawkify team works together to give the clients matches

grounded in multiple layers of compatibility.

What should someone expect from a first Tawkify date? Going into a first date, I bring my clients’ expectations down to zero. This is an introduction they wouldn’t receive otherwise, so it is required that they go in open-minded about the adventure. Sometimes friendship comes out of it, sometimes romance comes out of it, sometimes self-awareness comes out of it. It’s an exercise in vulnerability! T. Acceptance. Everyone has baggage; everyone has preferences.

Hope. You have to believe everyone has a chance.

Matchmaker Q&A

George

STARTING AT $1,500

Dr. Irina Feldbein

Admit it: You’re a little sick of online dating. Wouldn’t it be easier if someone else did all of the hard work? Tawkify is a concierge dating service that’s been setting up single people with similar interests since 2012. Your designated

matchmaker puts you in contact and even plans an exciting first date. Tawkify matchmakers come from all different backgrounds, and they’re assigned based on compatibility. But the whole team ultimately works together to ensure client satisfaction. We spoke to Julia and George, two of the company’s growing staff of matchmakers, to get a little more insight about their gig.

What is your process like when you’re out looking for matches for your client? When out in the field (hunting singles), I am very direct. I want to know what someone does for a living and whether he or she is single. If people seem like they can hold a conversation, I ask for their contact information and aim to learn more about them with a follow-up call or meet. Relationships. There’s nothing wrong with you after all, says author Sara Eckel When Sara Eckel published her essay “Sometimes it’s not you, or the math” in the Modern Love section of The New York Times three years ago, she wasn’t expecting the outpouring of positive feedback she received. The piece details the personal growth and pain Eckel went through while single throughout her 30s. “I thought I was writing about my small world in New York City,” says Eckel, but people around the world reached out to tell her how much they related to her story. “I had written similar pieces in the past along that theme, because I kept having this epiphany that I’m fine the way I am,” she says.“I kept having that epiphany, but I [also] kept forgetting it.” It was that piece in The Times that led Eckel to

write her book “It’s Not You: 27 (Wrong) Reasons You’re Single.” “In a way, it is written for my single self,” Eckel says. “Because I did torture myself with that question, ‘What is wrong with me?’” Throughout the book, Eckel breaks down the common stereotypes that single women often hear from their families and from popular culture, shares anecdotes and examines sociological studies about single life. (Although, at 39, Eckel met the man who would become her husband.) One thing Eckel discovered in her research was how easily women who married later in life said they had adapted to living with a partner. “You always hear about how hard it is to adjust to marriage if you are older,” she says. “I felt like I wasn’t

getting the proper training for being in a relationship because I had pretty much always been single.” “But I wanted this thing to change and once it did, I was so happy and I realized that if it meant compromises, then I

would do it,” she says. Publishers have been printing books about how to find love for centuries, and Eckel says that she understands why those messages appeal to so many. “Love is what most of us want,” she says. “Because so many of us want it, of course we’re going to read something that says ‘Here are the 10 things to do to make it happen.’ “We’re constantly told, ‘to get a better job, do this,’ or ‘to make more money, just do this,’” Eckel continues. “With love, it’s just so much more elusive. But there will always be people trying to figure it out.” LAKSHMI GANDHI

Learn from past bans Re: ‘New coal regulations will hurt the poor, cost jobs’ (Metro, June 4) The answer to how President Obama can impose regulations that affect coal-fired power plants is that it imposes the cost on the users of the product (us) rather than the people who will live with the aftermath of climate change (our children and grandchildren). A century ago, we thought asbestos was a wonder-product. It was used all over the place even though it was known to make people sick. Now, there are billions in losses related to asbestos contamination. I suspect that people made the same arguments you are when people tried to ban asbestos or lead in paint.

Mentally ill aren’t more violent in US Re: ‘Cut to the core of the problem’ (Metro, May 28) Since the United States is not the only country with mentally ill people, why are these types of atrocities not happening elsewhere? The easy access to guns, coupled with mental illness, is a deadly recipe. If we accept Michael McGovern’s argument that mental illness alone is the driving force behind these massacres, then we must also accept that America’s mentally ill are just more prone to violence. Kings come out on top to kick off Cup Stanley Cup Final. Los Angeles scored in overtime after falling behind 2-0 early to take a series lead. The Rangers got off to about as good a start as they could’ve hoped for. The end didn’t go nearly as well. Justin Williams netted a goal 4:36 into overtime to give the Kings a 3-2 Game 1 win and early control of the series in the quest for the Stanley Cup. The winning goal came after a sloppy turnover in the zone by Rangers defeseman Dan Girardi. But things looked much more promising for the Rangers in the first period. What went wrong ...

1

Fire gone out The Rangers looked like the far superior team in the first 15 minutes of the game, but were anything but for the rest of the contest. The Blueshirts were outshot by an astounding 20-3 margin in the third period alone. The Kings finished with 16 more shots on goal in the game.

2

More nothing The power play has been a problem all postseason for the Rangers. They were 0-for-3 in Game 1 and rarely even got much in the way of chances. In fact, they got better chances on a few short-handed opportunities, including Hagelin’s goal in the first period.

Speed trap Going into the series, the battle between the Kings’ size and the Rangers’ speed was earmarked as the biggest battle to watch. Early on, as the Rangers jumped out to their 2-0 lead, the speed looked deadly. Hagelin’s goal was reminiscent of Chris Kreider’s success against P.K. Subban. But the physicality of the Kings began to wear on them as the game continued.

Prior to last season, Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said he was going to give C.J. Hosley is the third cornerback and likely would’ve seen plenty of time on the ďŹ eld. METRO
