At least 14 people hurt after tour buses collide Times Square. The buses collided with each other Tuesday afternoon, seriously injuring several. Paramedics treated at least 14 people in a tourist-filled Times Square on Tuesday afternoon after two buses collided, one of them running into a traffic light that crashed onto the sidewalk. Of the 14 people with confirmed injuries, three were seriously hurt and some were transported to Roosevelt Hospital for treatment, New York Fire Department official Roger Sakowich said. Most of the people were hurt by the falling pole and were not passengers, Sakowich said. The collision happened at 3:10 p.m., and the investigation into what led up to the accident at West 47th
Street and Seventh Avenue is still ongoing. The tour guide on one of the buses was trapped under a crushed dashboard and had to be removed by emergency responders, but she was not seriously injured, Sakowich added. “We just suddenly heard this big boom,” said Orville Anderson, who was with his nephew near the site when the crash occurred. Photos from the accident show two doubledecker buses against each other. A CitySights bus remained on the street while a Gray Line bus was on the curb with its front window blown out and the street light on the ground. Twin America LLC, which has operated both tour bus lines since 2009, did not respond to requests for comment.

NYPD probing report EMTs stopped cops beating man The New York Police Department said on Tuesday it was investigating a report that two emergency medical technicians jumped in to stop four police officers who were punching a handcuffed patient.
A Queens couple was charged with repeatedly starving and beating their 12-year-old daughter, officials said on Tuesday. Maya Ranot’s weight dropped to 58 pounds after 20 months of abuse, during which she was regularly locked in a bedroom without food or water, prosecutors said. She was also punched and kicked in the face, hit with a baseball bat and
rolling pin and beaten with a metal broom handle, officials said. Maya was hit so hard with the broom handle in May 2013 that the tendons to her left wrist were cut to the bone, officials said. The emaciated girl was found by medical workers in a pool of blood. “The criminal charges allege that this young victim was subjected to years of unspeakable physical
abuse at the hands of her father and stepmother,” Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said. Maya stayed silent because she was worried her step-siblings would be placed in foster care if she came forward, Brown said. Maya’s father Rajesh Ranot, 46, and stepmother Sheetal Ranot, 31, of Ozone Park, were in jail on Tuesday night. ANNA SANDERS

Tracking ‘Languages above the Subways’ New York City. CUNY student maps languages along the city’s different subway lines. The subway system has 5.5 million weekday riders speaking an eclectic blend of languages mirroring the city’s own diversity. Student and R train rider Michelle Johnson developed an infographic to track these languages for her capstone project at the CUNY Graduate Center. Using data from the 2010 Census, “Languages above the Subways” shows what’s spoken in the neighborhoods over the train tunnels, from English and Spanish to Russian. “The subway system defines an alternative geography for New York, and

influences where people go as much as the physical geography,” Johnson, a Ph.D. candidate in linguistics, said in an email. The data can be viewed by each of the 21 subway lines or one of 13 languages. Users view the percentage of language speakers at each station along a line. Johnson said the information is useful to riders. “Many of us only get on or off the train at certain stops and have very little idea of what the neighborhood above is like,” she said. “This infographic helps illustrate that, and since language and culture are deeply connected, it also shows where to experience certain cultures, practice certain languages and eat certain foods.” ANNA SANDERS @AnnaESanders anna.sanders@metro.us

The Orleans County Courthouse in Albion, about 34 miles northwest of Rochester, is airing out after being flea bombed in recent days, said county spokesman Chuck Nisbett. “There needs to be a period of ventilation prior to re-occupation,” Nisbett said. West Africa struggles to curb Ebola Outbreak. It was detected in March in the remote forest regions of Guinea. Relatives of Ebola victims in Liberia defied government quarantine orders and dumped infected bodies in the streets as West African governments struggled to enforce tough measures to curb an outbreak of the virus that has killed 887 people. In Nigeria, which recorded its first death from Ebola in late July, authorities in Lagos said eight people who came in contact with deceased U.S. citizen Patrick Sawyer were showing signs of the deadly disease.

SpaceX rocket launches on its second try
An earlier launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9, a company run by Elon Musk, took place on April 18. / GETTY IMAGES
Lift off. SpaceX’s website shows the price of a Falcon 9 is now $61.2 million. A Space Exploration Technologies Falcon 9 rocket thundered off its coastal launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on Tuesday to put a commercial communications satellite into orbit. Backlog of missions

The company, owned and operated by technology entrepreneur Elon Musk, has a backlog of nearly 40 missions.
On its second launch attempt of the day, the 224-foot rocket lifted off at 4 a.m. EDT, blazing through partly cloudy, predawn skies as it headed into space. The first try, 2 1/2 hours earlier, ended less than a minute before liftoff when a computer found a potential problem with the rocket’s firststage engine, SpaceX officials said in a live webcast. The issue was resolved, clearing the rocket for flight. Perched on top of the Falcon 9 was a communications satellite owned by Hong Kong-based Asia Satellite Telecommunications Holdings Ltd, or AsiaSat. REUTERS
About the craft The spacecraft, known as AsiaSat 8 and built by Space Systems/Loral, a Palo Alto, California-based subsidiary of Canada’s MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd, will become the fifth member of an orbital network that provides telecommunication services to the Asia-Pacific region. •
AsiaSat hired privately owned SpaceX for two satellite launches, the
second of which is due to launch later this month. •
Previously, AsiaSat bought rides on Russian Proton rockets, but decided to hire SpaceX after the California-based startup won a NASA contract to fly cargo to the International Space Station, AsiaSat chief executive William Wade said in a pre-launch interview.

US general killed in Afghan shooting attack A U.S. general was killed and more than a dozen people were wounded, including a German general, in the latest insider attack by a man believed to be an Afghan soldier, U.S., German and Afghan officials said on Tuesday.
The slain general, whose identity was not immediately released by the Pentagon, was believed to be the most senior U.S. military official killed in action in Afghanistan since the war there began in 2001. Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby told reporters that “many were seriously wounded” and the gunman was killed

in the attack, which took place on Tuesday at the Marshal Fahim National Defense University, a training center in Kabul.
The attack raised fresh questions about the ability of NATO soldiers to train and advise Afghan security forces as western nations gradually withdraw. The U.S. and German generals were on a routine visit, the Pentagon said. A U.S. military official said the gunman fired on the foreign soldiers using a light machine gun. REUTERS

OMG! No ‘Appsolute’ restroom relief with spoof share app — yet Some toilets can be utter crap and that’s why a new app that promises to find users the nearest convenience is cleaning up in the private toilet market. Well, this would be the case if AirWC — originally spawned by Italian production firm Combocut and brought to the U.S. by advertising agency The Creative Shake — were real. The fake app, which requires a Facebook login and provides photos and users’ reviews, is a satirical jibe at genuine sharing economy ideas like room-rental service Airbnb and toilet-finding gadget Airpnp. That’s a relief. Metro chats with Paola Sinisgalli, founder of The Creative Shake, about why this app could be the “business.” How did the idea of an AirWC app come about? We’re a creative advertising agency and each one of us is used to exploring new concepts. After a

filling brunch, our creative director found a very uncomfortable bathroom and got inspired. What kind of people are showing an interest in it? Are they really looking to find a clean toilet or do they just want to laugh about it? This is the funny thing: It was born as a joke. However, the audience’s response is extremely positive and we’re using it as a market test to understand if launching it is in fact feasible.
Do you think that this subject is good enough comedy material? Poop jokes have always been funny, so that aspect is definitely helping with the humor and in sending it viral. Do you really intend to launch the app? We’re now collecting potential users’ feedback to understand if it would be worth developing and launching. We have the right team to do it.
We like to think about what is happening around us in a humorous way. There are many apps that are changing the world, though often we ask ourselves: “Was that one really necessary?” The point is that today we’re all talking about the sharing economy, but are we really ready to share everything we have?

Ways to cut college costs Stressed about having enough money for your college-bound teen this fall? Jeff Gawronski from DormCo.com shares how to get the most bang for your buck.
1
Don’t just rely on the campus bookstore
Your coed will be grateful when you send him or her off with everything needed for his or her first time away from home. COLOURBOX
“If it’s a core textbook you may use down the road, buy it; but if not, rent. When you do, price-compare between big rental companies,” Gawronski advises. “It’s extra work and takes more time, but it’s worth it.”
4
Do one-stop dorm shopping
Teach students how to save
Places that specialize in dorm furniture and decor like DormCo.com and Dormify.com offer everything in one place so you can save big on shopping. “DormCo.com has a flat-rate $2.95 shipping deal on your entire order, so you won’t break the bank,” says Gawronski.
A lot of college learning happens outside the classroom, especially when it comes to real-world living. “Students can take on an inexpensive monthly bill to learn budgeting, like their cellphone or iPad data, or allow them a certain budget they have to stick [to],” Gawronski says. This is one skill they’ll use for life.
3 2 Talk to the roommate before you shop
It may sound obvious, but Gawronski says a lot of parents end up overbuying things for the dorm because their son or daughter didn’t talk to their roommate beforehand. “It saves the hassle of buying something you don’t need and trying to return it,” he says.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste

Eva Green has boobs ‘to Kill For’
If you don’t mourn her Grande father, Ariana will give you a Grande dumping
Eva Green doesn’t get why everyone is so hung up about her boobs, and we kind of love her for it. When a poster for “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” was released featuring the actress in a sheer top with the silhouette of her chest visible beneath it prompted outcry, so the studio swapped it out for a toned-down version — much to Green’s chagrin. “I mean, the poster, you don’t see anything!” the hardly shy actress says. “Just wait for the movie, then. It’s in 3-D as well. Enjoy yourself, you know! It was nothing on the poster; it was lots of noise for nothing.”

Grande has got one less problem without Jai Brooks. / GETTY IMAGES
You could own Michael Jackson’s home
This happened at Neverland: MJ and his then-wife Lisa Marie Presley welcomed guests for a three-day World Children’s Congress.
Singer and Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande (you know her from her new collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J, “Bang Bang,’” and/or you know her from “Problem,” her collaboration with Iggy Azalea) has apparently broken up with her Australian boyfriend, Jai Brooks, according to E! News. (“Jai” is Australian for “Jay,” just so you know.) So what brought an end to this happy union? Brooks, a member of the prank group the Janoskians — which is a thing, I guess? — did not express the appropriate level of sympathy during Grande’s recent personal struggles. “When her grandfather was dying, everyone was there for her,” a source says. “People flew to Florida to be with her, but Jai didn’t. Ariana just felt he wasn’t there like he should have been.” Seems fair to me.

Anyone want to buy Neverland Ranch? The iconic former home of the late Michael Jackson is reportedly set to be sold off by Colony Capital, which bought out Jackson’s $23 million mortgage on the brink of foreclosure in 2008, according to Radar Online. Colony is hoping to make at least $60 million on the sale. In darker Neverland news, in separate suits against Jackson’s estate,

From YouTube to primetime You may not know Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci by their real names, but you’ve probably seen them on YouTube as their comedy band, Garfunkel and Oates. The duo garnered millions of views for their songs about the smugness of pregnant women and a host of other less printable topics. They’ve now moved to TV with a new show, “Garfunkel and Oates.” It’s a heightened take on their real lives, wherein a puppet plays their agent and Micucci has to audition for a very sexy scene only to discover that she’ll be performing it with Ben Kingsley. We talked to the pair about how they picked their character names and working with Sir Ben. You’ve named the characters after yourselves. How close are they to real life? Lindhome: I think they’re based on us. We’re like the jumping-off point, but they’re maybe more exaggerated versions of ourselves. Micucci: We talked about it, and we were like, do we name our characters our names? And it just seemed like the logical thing to do. RL: It would have felt too weird calling you Deborah. KM: Yeah, I’m definitely not a Deborah. RL: You’re such a Deborah. What would my name be? KM: Um. Estelle.

How did you pick Ben Kingsley as the guy Kate has to flirt with in an audition? RL: We just got incredibly lucky. Our casting director had a connection to him somehow, and she reached out and talked with him about it. He said yes, and we were just thrilled. How he worked ensemble casts: “He loved the cast to all get to know each other,” she says. He’d have everyone watch the dailies, the day’s rough footage. “We’d set up this big thing with booze and food, and people would come out exhausted after the day’s work. Everyone loved it — except for Julie Christie. He wanted one actor to know what the others were doing, to get to know each other and know their characters. I’m surprised more directors don’t do it.”
The controlled chaos of his ensemble films: “That’s the magic trick: You believe it’s chaos you’re watching,” Balaban says. “He could just deal with lots of people talking. On the first day of ‘Gosford Park’ we had a scene with 26 people. We rehearsed for six hours. He molded us like we were clay. But we didn’t know where the camera was going to be. And you go see the movie, and it’s the best shot with 26 people in it you could imagine.”
There’s a rumor that he and Donald Sutherland tried to get Altman fired from “M.A.S.H.”: “That’s not true at all,” he says. “I think that Bob had some problems or challenges with management and studios and administrators. But there was never a thought of that.” His attitude toward him since then has been skyhigh: “He freed me. He allowed me to be free. He gave me so much space. He was like a father to me.”

Get it off the market Make that old home look like a brand-new palace to buyers.

METRO IS THE MOST READ FREE DAILY NEWSPAPER IN NEW YORK WITH 709,300 DAILY READERS Source: Scarborough 2012-13.
The cheapest thing you can do? Break out that bleach, according to Dodson. Get those windows sparkling and clean your carpets — which is, ahem, also good to do from a health perspective — and then really use some elbow grease and scrub your grout. “Most people don’t think to do that,” she says. And be sure to get to the kitchen, which Dodson says is one of the rooms potential buyers are most interested in.

You’re ready to move on. Literally. You’ve got your new place all picked out, and you’re scoping out the best restaurants in your new neighborhood. There’s just one thing stopping you: that old mess of a house you need to sell. The last thing you want to
do is spend lots of money and time fixing up the place you’re ditching, but spending that cash now can make a difference in your closing price — and how long the listing sits on the market. For the skinny on what’s worth updating, we asked Elizabeth

Rehab cabinets
Updating cabinets is much cheaper than a remodel. “Instead of changing out the full cabinet, you can just reface the front of your cabinets,” Dodson says. She recommends taking off the doors and painting them or leaving them off to create a more open look, possibly with some wallpaper lined inside. If someone comes to look at your house, it’s going to be a little embarrassing if they try to turn the lights on and nothing happens, so make sure all light bulbs are working. Testing out HVAC systems is also important, and get rid of exposed wires and check for plumbing leaks. “You can hire those out if you don’t have the experience in actually checking and fixing all that,” says Dodson.
“Adding a little bling — like a woman getting dressed up — actually can go a long way,” Dodson says. She recommends swapping out the knobs on cabinets and drawers to add some pizzazz, which also updates your kitchen without the expense of a complete remodel. If you think you can handle a little more expenditure, swap out the faucets, too.
Dodson recommends trying to coordinate your appliances so they look good together, but don’t go overboard: “Be careful not to overspend on appliances, because if you are getting ready to sell a house, the really expensive appliances are not going to pay themselves back effectively.” So maybe don’t buy a pricey new fridge, but consider whether your appliances create a sense of symmetry.

Inventory drought
It’s competitive In the ďŹ rst quarter of 2014, the listing inventory in Manhattan was relatively unchanged at 4,968 units compared with 4,960 units a year earlier, according to a report by appraisal ďŹ rm Miller Samuel. Meanwhile, the average number of days a property was on the market dropped to 115 from 132 last year.
Miller Samuel’s data shows 45.9 percent of Manhattan condos and co-ops sold at or above the listing price during the second quarter, up from 38.1 percent in the ďŹ rst three months of the year. “If it’s a well-priced property, you’re not the only one seeing it,â€? said Dovanna Pagowski, an agent at Rutenberg Realty.

Warburg Realty’s Lisa Larson scoured the East Side for more than a year with clients looking to buy a two-bedroom for less than $1.3 million. Ten months ago, they lost an apartment on East 78th Street that was listed for $1.25 million, and which later sold for $100,000 more than the asking price — and $50,000 more than Larson’s clients had offered. In March, Larson and her clients tried a different tactic: They found an apartment on East 90th Street listed at $1.09 million — well within budget, and with ample room to bid up. “We were able to go up easily to 10 percent over the asking price, said Larson, whose clients will be paying just under $1.2
million for the Carnegie Hill co-op. A week after seeing the apartment, she said, her clients presented their “best and final offer, which was accepted, and they were set to close the first week in July. In today’s uber-competitive market, when even qualified buyers are losing apartments to competing bids or all-cash offers, Larson and other brokers say one way to ensure their clients present the best offer is to look slightly under their budget, leaving room to negotiate. “If you have a buyer that’s looking in the twobedroom category, if they have a budget of $1.8 million, I wouldn’t even look at anything above $1.7 million, realistically, Larson said. “No matter how prepared you are, if someone can bid 10 percent over you and it’s all cash, it’s hard to beat that.

Look up! It’s a flying camera Snapshot. A new trend finds professionals and amateurs alike taking photos with scary aerial vehicles.
Look up in the sky and maybe you’ll see one of them: little flying robots with cameras. No, they’re not UFOs or props from scifi movies. They’re drones, but the good kind, used to produce aerial images from a unique panoramic view. They’re amassing fans from all over the world, from professionals to amateurs to Martha Stewart. The pictures taken by unmanned aerial vehicles are truly amazing, but users must be careful not to fly them where people are around — they easily can be mistaken for military drones and freak civilians out.
How do they work? The most basic drone consists of a battery, a sensor and helix propellers. Drones also have GPS
capabilities, radio and a camera. They can reach speeds of 50 mph, controlled by a remote that also coordinates the focusing and shooting of the camera. The images produced can be monitored by a computer, a tablet or a smartphone. Prices vary between $1,000 and $2,500, and they are not hard to find, even in department stores. But there are countries where drone use is restricted.
Pro tips On his National Geographic blog, photographer Kike Calvo shares his personal experiences with drones. He gave us a few tips:
A way of life Thanks to its growing popularity, drone photography has even given rise to its very own social network called Dronestagram, focused on sharing photographs taken by drones all over the world. With 10,000 members, the website recently ran the first ever competition dedicated to photography taken by drones. “This is a new visual language, a new way of seeing and discovering the world, a kind of new tool for images,” said Eric Dupin, founder of Dronestagram. “I really like flying drones myself on my free time.” For him, the gadget presents more benefits than any other: “Drones can go to places that no other device can go and shoot [from] unbelievable angles.” WANISE MARTINEZ @metronewyork letters@metro.us

How countries police drones France is one of the few countries that have established standards for commercial and civilian drone use. Most of the world’s nations still lack regulation. That may be related to the controversy around these gadgets, due chiefly to their hotly debated use by the military.

TENNESSEE THOMAS GETTY IMAGES
What should women wear to summer weddings and garden parties? Well, first of all, not a spiky heel. Either a thick heel or a wedge or a flat is a necessity for any outdoor function during the summer. A flared dress of a great color is a key staple. It’s clean, it’s flirty, it has volume. I also think that prints work well. Whose style are you loving right now? I thought that Elle Fanning
looked great on the cover of Elle magazine. I feel like it’s been a quiet summer for street shots! I like how my friend Tennessee Thomas dresses. What are your favorite summer accessories? I love a Jack Rogers shoe. That’s always a great sandal. I like chambray. I think there’s a lot of play right now in fashion on denim on denim. Personally, when I’m casual, I love how light and breezy a chambray shirt looks. LISA WEIDENFELD

KEEP YOUR COOL IN THE HEAT We’ve been lucky in New York City this summer, with only three days when the mercury hit 90 degrees or more in July. But heatrelated complications can occur at even lower temperatures. Heat illness is a spectrum of conditions ranging from mild symptoms resulting in heat exhaustion to heat stroke, in which your body fails to regulate its internal temperature, which can cause damage to your cardiovascular and central nervous systems. The first three recommendations are to drink, drink, drink. Staying well hydrated on hot summer days, whether it’s with water or sports beverages, is key. Alcoholic, carbonated and caffeinated drinks might actually raise your body temperature and/or contribute to dehydration. On days when heat and humidity are high, stay indoors as much as possible. The high humidity prevents evaporation of sweat, impairing your body’s ability to cool itself. Certain medical conditions might also interfere with your body’s cooling mechanisms. The heat can also exacerbate the symptoms of these illnesses. Exercising outdoors in temperatures above 80 degrees can be dangerous. Limit your activities to the cooler early morning or late afternoon hours.

Cleaning and the ‘Modern Family’
Men are stepping up more than their fathers did when it comes to sharing chores in the modern American family. •
According to an online survey sponsored by Swier, “Americans feel today that men are helping more with household chores, almost twice as much as their dads did when they were growing up,â€? psychologist Dr. Michelle Callahan says.

Israel’s defense shouldn’t come by kids’ blood Re: ‘Palestinians not so innocent’ (Metro, Aug. 5) Israel isn’t innocent either. Killing Hamas militants is protecting Israel. Targeting four little boys playing soccer on the beach and shelling U.N. schools housing innocent women and children are war crimes. Israel continues to hide behind the guise of self-defense while carrying out reprehensible attacks against the Palestinian civilian population. It’s never OK for either side to target innocent civilians, and they should be held accountable when they do.
Boycott Canada Re: ‘Into Toronto’ (Metro, Aug. 5) Tourism is big in Canada, but so is seal hunting. Every year, thousands of seals are killed in Newfoundland and Labrador by people who hunt it for food and to make fur coats. I’m very disappointed that you’re trying to promote Canadian tourism when they’re killing those baby seals each March. There’s so much in America that you can explore. Until they stop killing the seals, I’m boycotting Canada’s tourist sites. And I’m urging your readers to do the same. RICHARD CLIFFORD, VIA EMAIL

Bronx return sees new Chamberlain MLB. The former Yankee pitcher has a new look on his face and a new outlook on his pitching career. Joba Chamberlain burst on the scene seven years ago this week as a flamethrowing reliever the Yankees anticipated would be a stalwart on their pitching staff for years. The 27-year-old, who made the “Joba Rules” part of daily language and whose role was a constant source of debate returned to New York on Monday night, this time as a member of the Tigers, who are in first place in the AL Central with him as their primary eighth-inning reliever.
Chamberlain said he planned to shave his beard after spring training, but just said “forget it.” / GETTY IMAGES
Chamberlain took a 3.02 ERA over 49 appearances into Tuesday. But he didn’t come into spring training anointed as the setup man to closer Joe Nathan. “I think the biggest adjustment was continuing
in spring training to go out and earn my job,” Chamberlain said. “I knew they obviously brought me over for a reason. They have good arms, but going out, and after the terrible year that I had last year, I had to continue to prove and Bosch busted

The scandal that goes on and on, Biogenesis, marked its latest chapter Tuesday morning. Clinic founder Anthony Bosch was charged with felony conspiracy to distribute testosterone by the U.S. government. The former PED dealer to the stars turned himself in and will reportedly plead guilty. He could face as much as 10 years in prison, but will likely get less in the plea deal. The DEA also arrested Yuri Sucart on Tuesday. Sucart is a cousin of Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, whom the slugger admitted provided him with steroids during his time with the Rangers from 2000 to 2003. MLB suspended Rodriguez for the entire 2014 season due to his connection with Bosch. METRO
show what I could do just to earn that spot back. Obviously they signed Joe and my job is to get that ball to him. That’s what I felt like from Day One, but obviously that’s played itself out well.” Chamberlain’s return comes after a quiet end to one of the more-hyped major league debuts in recent memory. He was used as a mop-up reliever by the end of 2013 due to a 4.93 ERA. “If you think that [what could have been] life would be pretty boring,” he said. “I’ve experienced so much. The game of baseball is so short and the game of life so much bigger. This game has taught me so much. … I wouldn’t change anything.”

Chamberlain timeline It’s been a long, strange road for Joba Chamberlain in the majors. •
June 6, 2006: The Yankees draft Chamberlain No. 41 overall, with a compensation pick for losing Tom Gordon.
•
Aug. 7, 2007: Chamberlain pitches two innings (two strikeouts) in his MLB debut, closing out a 7-2 win over Toronto.
•
Oct. 5, 2007: He blows a save (1 1/3 innings, the go-ahead run) in the infamous midge game in Game 2 of the ALDS in Cleveland.
•
June 3, 2008: Chamberlain’s debut start is a struggle as he walks four in 2 1/3 innings.
•
Oct. 7-Nov. 4, 2009: He pitches to a 2.84 ERA in the playoffs as the Yankees win the title.
•
Dec. 13, 2013: Chamberlain signs a one-year, $2.5 million deal with Detroit.

NFL. Pryor cleared for contact, still likely to miss preseason debut Jets first-round pick Calvin Pryor was cleared for contact Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean you should expect to see the hard-hitting safety when the team takes the field Thursday. “Calvin Pryor, he is [cleared for contact] and physically ready to play, but I don’t know, I don’t anticipate playing him in this preseason game,” head coach Rex Ryan said. “It’s a lot of work getting back and getting him up to speed for the next one.” Pryor suffered a concussion early in training camp and has been out of action for over a week. The team’s top pick was expected to compete for a starting role immediately in 2014. Antonio Allen and Dewan Landry will likely start at the two safety spots against the Colts in the preseason opener at MetLife Stadium (Thursday, 7 p.m., CBS). MARK OSBORNE
Shaq KO’d As Pryor returns, fellow rookie Shaq Evans appears to be out long term. The wideout injured his shoulder Tuesday. •
“We always say we’ll lean on our doctors and trainers, but we will,” Ryan said. “I think this looks like a severe injury.”
