R train service will be back to normal at 6 a.m. Monday, with the Montague tunnel reopening after a year of repairs. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the end of construction Sunday afternoon at the Whitehall Street R station in lower Manhattan. Elected officials and MTA representatives also attended. The tunnel, which connects lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, was built in 1920. It was severely damaged in 2012, when some 27 million gallons of water flooded the tracks during Superstorm Sandy. The tunnel shut down in August 2013 for a lengthy list of repairs and upgrades, which included engineering to limit flooding damage in the future. The project was previously set to complete in October 2014. R train service was split during the shutdown, running from 95th Street in Bay Ridge to Court Street in Brooklyn, and from Whitehall Street to 71 Avenue in Forest Hills, Queens. Weekend trains were re-routed over the Manhattan Bridge and skipped stops in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, according to the MTA. During his remarks, Cuomo thanked “our forefathers” for having
New York State’s only moveable bridge, the Harlem River Lift Bridge, will close to replace 60-year-old cables and install new electrical components, starting today. Because of the construction, the bridge, which connects Manhattan to the Bronx and is used by more than 280,000 MetroNorth customers, will not open for boats for the next six months.

Cuomo said. After Cuomo’s announcement, an R train took officials through the restored tunnel. “This was an amazing job. … It’s a great day for New Yorkers and all our customers, and we’ll be back tomorrow morning,” said NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco. Bianco said about 65,000 riders travel through the Montague tunnel every day, and that the damage left by Sandy led to a nearly “total rebuild.” The project cost $250 million, funded by the Federal Transit Administration. Improvements include 30,000 feet of new concrete and duct banks, as well as 200,000 feet of communication cable.

New York. Health department warns against respiratory illness The New York State Department of Health is calling upon parents to be aware of the enterovirus EV-D68. More than 12 children across the state, near Albany and in Central New York, have been confirmed as having the serious respiratory illness.
It does not have a “specific treatment or vaccination,” said Acting State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker, adding that symptoms can only be managed. Hundreds of children in several states have been treated from the illness.
The enterovirus is spread through close contact with infected persons. Prevention is especially important for infants, the health department said. Symptoms include fever, runny nose, sneezing, coughing and bodyaches.
Children are particularly susceptible to the illness.

‘Goodell must go’ signs flown above stadiums Women’s rights. The demonstration comes as the NFL scrambles to manage criticism over its handling of Ray Rice. A women’s rights group flew banners over pro football stadiums on Sunday calling on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to resign over his handling of former Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice’s domestic violence case, the group said. US citizen gets six years hard labor in North Korea Sentence. Todd Miller joins Kenneth Bae to become the second American serving hard labor in North Korea. North Korea sentenced U.S. citizen Matthew Todd Miller to six years of hard labor for committing “hostile acts” as a tourist to the country, a statement carried by state media said, as the United States requested his immediate pardon and release. “He committed acts hostile to the DPRK while entering the territory of the DPRK under the guise of a tourist last April,” the short statement said. The Korean version of the statement described Miller’s punishment as a “labor reeducation” sentence. Miller, is in his mid-20s and hails from Bakersfield,
California. He entered North Korea in April this year, whereupon he tore up his tourist visa and demanded Pyongyang grant him asylum, according to a release from state media at the time. He was traveling without foreign guides, according to Uri Tours, the company that organized the trip. North Korea has not publicly elaborated on Miller’s charges, but the Associated Press, which was able to attend the trial, said Miller was tried under Article 64 of the North Korean criminal code, which refers to espionage. Photos of the trial released by state media showed some of Miller’s personal possessions, including his passport, iPhone, iPad, notebook and North Korean visa, which appeared to be ripped. Miller was shown sitting in a witness box, flanked by North Korean soldiers. REUTERS

Ceremony. It was the first of its kind in the Vatican since Pope John Paul II presided over a wedding in 2000. Pope Francis married 20 couples on Sunday, some of whom had already lived together and had children, in the latest sign that the Argentine pontiff wants the Catholic church to be more open and inclusive. In the first wedding he has performed in his 18-month-old papacy, Francis took each couple through their vows in turn — including Gabriella and Guido, who already had children and thought
such a marriage would be impossible, official broadcasting service Radio Vaticana said. “The people getting married on Sunday are couples like many others,” the diocese of Rome said in a statement. “Some already live together, some already have children.” Francis has expressed tolerance regarding other topics that are traditionally taboo in the Church, asking, “Who am I to judge [a gay person] who seeks God and has goodwill?” His approach contrasts with that of his predecessor, the German Pope Benedict, who said that threats to the traditional family undermined the future of humanity itself. New study. Small ocean algae can evolve fast to tackle climate change

Tiny marine algae can evolve fast enough to cope with climate change in a sign that some ocean life may be more resilient than thought to rising temperatures and acidification, according to the German-led study in the journal Nature Climate Change. Evolution is usually omitted in scientific projections of how global warming will affect the planet in coming decades because genetic changes happen too slowly to help
larger creatures such as cod, tuna or whales. Sunday’s study found that a type of microscopic algae that can produce 500 generations a year — or more than one a day — can still thrive when exposed to warmer temperatures and levels of ocean acidification predicted for the mid-2100s. The Emiliania huxleyi phytoplankton studied are a main source of food for fish and other ocean life and also absorb large amounts of carbon diox-
ide, the main greenhouse gas, as they grow. Their huge blooms can sometimes be seen from space. Thorsten Reusch, an author of Sunday’s study at the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, cautioned the findings were only for one species of algae in a laboratory test, in water with no predators or disease. He said it was not an argument that global warming was less serious than expected. REUTERS

A new alarm app that can wake you up to a stranger’s voice Nobody likes to be rudely awoken by the automated buzzing of their alarm, but how about being gently coaxed from your slumber by the soothing tones of a stranger’s voice? It sounds creepy, but that’s exactly what new app “Wakie” does by connecting a so-called “community” of “wakies” (people who call) and “sleepers” (those who need to get up). The gizmo pairs opposite genders in the same age bracket and automatically disconnects after 60 seconds to avoid any potential trolling or awkward goodbyes. The app is currently only available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Singapore and Hong Kong, but “wakers” can sign up from anywhere in the world. Metro speaks to Hrachik Adjamian, the San Francisco-based founder and CEO, about why the world needs “Wakie.” I take it you struggle to get up in the morning, hence creating this app? True. Some years ago, waking up was a big problem for me because I was too busy and almost didn’t have time to sleep. At that time I noticed that if some stranger called me early in the morning, then I would wake up without any problems. And why is that? Well, when you have a couple of minutes of conversation with someone you don’t know, you try to be kind and therefore need to turn your brain on. After that, you don’t want to sleep anymore. That’s when I

Applying to school just got less mysterious Getting in. Here are the latest trends in the world of college admissions. To college hopefuls, the perfect application is as coveted and elusive as the allegorical golden ticket. Yet information about what admissions offices are actually looking for has always been scarce — until now. Startup AdmitSee collects and analyzes applications from students who successfully matriculated to undergraduate and graduate school. Using the data amassed from thousands of participants, the company now provides high schoolers
with a profile of what catches the eye of admissions officers. “I think what people are most nervous about is the question of ‘How do I make myself stand out from the crowd?’ says AdmitSee co-founder Stephanie Shyu. She and business partner Lydia Pierce Fayal launched the site last year. We talked to both women about some of the trends AdmitSee has discovered.
“According to our data, 25 percent of students are applying to more than 11 schools, says Fayal. But, interestingly, it seems like most students apply for schools that turn out to be pretty good fits for their academic profiles. With a mean acceptance rate of 4.8 schools, most students have several institutions to choose from when it comes to making their big decision.
How many schools do most students apply to? The average student applies to 8.35, according to AdmitSee. But that number just paints part of the picture, as a growing number are applying to 10 or more schools.
What is the most popular way to start an essay? Given the topics that most students write about (see right), it’s no surprise that nearly half of the essays AdmitSee collected began with either the word “I or
The average student applies to eight or nine schools, according to AdmitSee. / DIGITAL VISION Essays
What do applicants write their personal essay about? Finding the perfect essay topic can be agonizing, but it turns out that most students stick to three basic themes. They are: • Creative personal story • Issue of personal signiďŹ cance • Family background
“I’m. Aside from revealing just how personal most personal essays are, this tidbit suggests a potential disadvantage for certain students. “It just goes to show how international students who are not familiar writing in the first person may be at a disadvantage when attempting to convey their stories, says Shyu. Many essays also begin with quotes — but not necessarily famous words. “Students often quote personal conversations as a segue into an anecdote, says Shyu.

What extracurricular activities do colleges like? According to AdmitSee’s data, most students are drawn to a core set of after school activities. The most popular clubs (excluding sports) are, in order: • National Honor Society • Tutoring or mentoring • Student council • (Threeway tie for fourth place) Debate team; math team; school newspaper or magazine LAKSHMI GANDHI @LakshmiGandhi lakshmi.gandhi@metro.us

Kanye stops a show because of two people Kanye West is getting all sorts of heat for halting a performance in Sydney when his demands that every single person in the arena get on their feet wasn’t met due to two uncooperative fans. “I can’t do this show until everybody stand up,” West told the crowd. “Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking and s—.” Yeah, about that: West apparently spotted two audience members who were still seated, and when he singled them out,
one waved her prosthetic limb at him, prompting an appropriate response from West of, “OK, you fine.” He then turned his attention to the second one despite others trying to signal that the fan was actually wheelchair-bound and not just recalcitrant. According to the Daily Mail Australia, West would not continue with the show until he had staff confirm the non-standing offender was indeed in a wheelchair. He’s nothing if not thorough.
Oprah to blame for Lindsay’s London stint If Londoners aren’t thrilled about having Lindsay Lohan as a new fixture, they have Oprah Winfrey to thank. Lohan tells the Telegraph that her Winfrey-produced reality series made life in NYC untenable. “After the Oprah show, it was kind of hard for me to be in New York,” she says. “There started to be paparazzi, and I didn’t have that in New York in the beginning.” Later in the interview, Lohan implies that she was doing court-ordered community service in a morgue when Whitney Houston’s body was rolled in.

Darryl Hannah and Neil Young keep on rockin’ in the free world.
Darryl Hannah and Neil Young: The new hot celeb couple? In the “not actually that surprising when you think about it” department, Darryl Hannah and Neil Young are reportedly an item — just a little over a month after Young split from his wife of 36 years. “They’ve been dating for months. They’ve taken no effort to even hide

it,” a source tells People magazine. “They’ve appeared at many, many protest rallies together over the past year. The fans have known about this for months.” Wow! If that isn’t the snarkiest anonymous source quote in history. It’s like, “What, you only just heard about Darryl Hannah and Neil Young now? Loser!” Anyway, Young even reportedly took regular Skype notes from Hannah on his recently recorded album and told others in the studio that she is his girlfriend. Because nothing says blossoming romance like a face on a laptop screen critiquing your guitar solos.

Harry Connick Jr. talks to the animals Interview. The singer-actor is also amazed there’s a “Dolphin Tale 2.”
You aren’t the only one mystified that there’s a sequel to 2011’s “Dolphin Tale,” which ended with the aquatic mammal in need of a prosthetic tail getting a prosthetic tail. Where do you go from there? “When they came up to me to do ‘Dolphin Tale 2,’ I thought they were kidding around,” recalls Connick. “How do you make another one of these? And when I read the script, I got it.” In real life, the dolphin on which the movie is based — Winter — lost her mate at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (which is
now a major tourist attraction). The story of finding her a new one became a new script. Reunited with the same cast and characters, Connick didn’t have to do much prep work — but acting with animals is always tricky, even when they’re as smart as dolphins. “The dolphins maybe don’t always do what they’re intended to do,” he says. “But when you’re in an environment like this, it doesn’t matter. If it takes an hour to shoot something that should have taken half an hour, nobody really cares.” Connick doesn’t act too
often; he’s busy with his music and appearances on “American Idol.” But this part of his career goes all the way back to a small role in 1990’s “Memphis Belle.” “I like performing,” he explains. “Way back when I was a kid, I was involved in different kinds of performing — whether it was theater or playing music on stage. [Film] was just a natural progression of what I’ve always done.” MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge

The dark side
Harry Connick Jr. hangs with his screen daughter (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) in “Dolphin Tale 2.” / WILSON WEBB
Not for the family The last three films Connick Jr. has been in have been family-oriented, including the first “Dolphin Tale.” He can do darker. His acting breakthrough was 1995’s “Copycat,” in which he played a giddy serial killer. “It’s not family films, per se, that I’m drawn to. Whether I’m doing ‘Dolphin Tale’ or ‘Copycat,’ the thing that draws me is they’re good stories,” he says. “If the next 10 scripts I read were great family films, I’d do ’em. If they were all dark, twisted stuff
like ‘Bug,’ I’d do them too.” And he really doesn’t have an agenda. “Things happen organically. Projects are born out of a chance meeting or a whim of an idea. That will never stop. I never sit down and plan things. Things kind of happen,” he says. As for his role in “Copycat,” when asked why director Jon Amiel thought of the singer to play a deranged psychopath, he says he never got an answer. “That made me wonder what led him to believe I could do that,” he recalls. “That’s a question I’d like answered at some point.”

What went down at the Toronto Movies. One of the biggest ďŹ lm events of the year ended Sunday. Here are the hits and big sellers. This year’s Toronto International Film Festival closes without the sense of certainty that had become a mainstay in recent years. Last year, for example, many left TIFF feeling there was no chance “12 Years a Slaveâ€? could lose the Best Picture race or Matthew McConaughey wouldn’t be an Oscarwinner for “Dallas Buyers Club,â€? and look what happened there. But for 2014, TIFF didn’t so much kick off the Oscar race as it nudged it into existence. Most Best Picture contenders are coming out of the festival with their prospective nominations endorsed less by fists in the air than by shrugs. It really is still anyone’s game.
Oscar chances
Eddie Redmayne (with Felicity Jones) plays the young Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything. / TIFF
This year’s early awards speculation at TIFF was much more about performances than ďŹ lms, with two clear early favorites. Eddie Redmayne oers a transformative, careerdeďŹ ning performance as Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everythingâ€? that is sure to be nominated (if not awin). And Julianne Moore’s turn in “Still Alice,â€? as a woman with early onset Alzheimer’s, looks likely to nab her that longdeserved trophy. For actors, there were plenty of other performances to give Redmayne some competition. He has a natural rival in Benedict Cumberbatch, playing Alan Turing in “The Imitation Game.â€? And Jake Gyllenhaal may have his ďŹ rst real crack at Oscar gold since “Brokeback Mountainâ€? with his chilling work in “Nightcrawler.â€? As for the

“The Last 5 Yearsâ€? was the ďŹ rst big sale of the festival in what turned out to be a good year for pickups out of Toronto. The most attention-grabbing, though, was Paramount’s acquisition of Chris Rock’s comedy “Top Five,â€? which sold for a reported $12.5 million. The Weinstein Company’s Radius imprint kicked things o early by picking up crowd-pleaser “The Last 5 Years,â€? a musical starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan that

left audiences grinning (even if some critics didn’t like the taste). Everyone else can make up their minds next Valentine’s Day, when it is slated for release. And Radius circled back at the end of the fest to nab the Nick Krollstarring comedy “Adult Beginners,â€? also starring Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and a host of NYC comedy talent. Cannes favorite “Foxcatcher,â€? the big debate there is how to divide up its three stars — Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Rualo — for awards consideration so they don’t get in each other’s way. Carell, by the way, has the slight edge on his co-stars. On the actress side, Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon’s performance in “Wildâ€? seems like a safe bet for a nomination, at least, and debate has already begun as to whether Felicity Jones’ work in “The Theory of Everything,â€? playing Hawking’s steadfast wife, should earn her a nomination in the supporting or lead category. International Film Festival Winners Winning the TIFF People’s Choice Award has often meant a shot at Best Picture, if not the big prize itself. Last year’s “12 Years a Slave” went from Toronto to Oscar, following
in the footsteps of “The King’s Speech,” “Slumdog Millionaire” and “American Beauty.” So does that mean that this year’s winner, “The Imitation Game,” has some high hopes for Oscar? It certainly does now. Fire up
the jets, Mr. Weinstein. For the complete list of TIFF winners, visit www.metro.us.

We’re Young,” starring Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts and the near-ubiquitous Adam Driver.
Our exclusive Fibrex material was researched by Andersen for 30 years before it was installed in even one home. Our Fibrex material is twice as strong as vinyl.
The lack of real standouts at TIFF this year might be due in part to most festivalgoers focusing on the films that weren’t screening. Three notable titles were absent and will be vying for attention at the New York Film Festival later this month: David Fincher’s “Gone Girl,” Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “Birdman” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Inherent Vice.”
2. Unique Look Our window has the elegant look and strength of a wood window, but our Fibrex material doesn’t demand the same maintenance of wood.
3. Accountability There’s no frustrating “middle man” to deal with. We sell, build, install and warrant both our windows and installation.

Onstage. For the Cambridge University grads Clean Bandit, it’s all porn parties and DIY videos. Clean Bandit may identify themselves as an electronic chamber music quartet, but these Brits who gave us the infectious single, “New Eyes,” aren’t as stodgy as their genre of choice might imply. “We all shout some Spice Girl lyrics before we go onstage,” says violin player Milan Neil AminSmith, during a chat backstage at Latitude festival in Suffolk, England. These University of Cambridge graduates — Grace Chatto (cello and vocals), brothers Jack (bass guitar and keyboard) and Luke Patterson (drums) and Amin-Smith — aren’t exactly ones for convention. Their music, which is a mix of Disclosure-style house and garage with classical flourishes of orchestral strings, might sound as opinion-dividing as chilli chocolate, but it’s in fact proving to be a floor-filler. So apparently you met porn star Ron Jeremy recently in the U.S. What kind of parties are you attending these days? I have to be honest with
you and say I’m the only one who went to bed before we met him. But it came about because Grace peeled off from the group and went to a nightclub on her own in L.A. I don’t know what took her, but she’s quite headstrong. Is she the party person of the band? Not particularly, but she’s by far the bravest and by far the most confident. She ended up getting invited to some party at an amazing Beverley Hills mansion, so she rang everyone else [in the band] and partied with Ron Jeremy. Did he show “the goods,” so to speak? Apparently in the boot [trunk] of his car, he had just like his full works: print and screen. Did you take home some of the merch? No merchandise, but I think one of our singers was left with a bite on her neck. Would you do a backing track for one of his movies? [Laughs] Maybe. Speaking of making movies, Clean Bandit produces their own dangerous DIY music videos. Any close calls? Yeah, because we do them
Bonus question
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever read about yourself? Someone said that I looked like a socially awkward school nerd who had been dragged backwards through an Urban Outfitters sale. It took a lot of thought, I guess.
ourselves there aren’t any health and safety regulations involved in the way that there might be if it were done professionally. One of our friends built a wooden plank on top of his car and then Grace and I stood on it and played our instruments for the “Telephone Banking” video. We drove reasonably fast around the streets of East London near the Olympic Village. There were very few cars, but there were tree branches. You hit a tree and fell off? I had a pole behind me and a belt around my waist and that was literally it. And yes, I did knock into a tree. RICHARD PECKETT richard.peckett@metro.lu

Jonathan Bennett Claim to fame: Was the cute guy in “Mean Girls” Chances: Bennett just filmed a Lifetime movie where he costarred with “Glee”’s best dancer, Heather Morris, so maybe she gave him tips. We think he’ll stick around for a while. And we may be setting our DVRs for that Lifetime movie.

Chances: Johnson’s bio indicates she took dance lessons as a kid, so we think she’s got moves. And for anyone thinking she’s too old to win, keep in mind that she’s famous for cartwheeling down the runway after her shows, so don’t count her out too quickly.
Chances: Mr. Chong has certain lifestyle habits that we suspect may inhibit his ability to, say, focus on steps. On the other hand, he’s had these habits for a while, so chances are good he’s able to work with them. Then again, he’s 76 years old!
Chances: Mota is only 19: Just something to keep in mind about someone with 7 million YouTube followers for her style and makeup tutorials. We think that popularity will help her stay on the show — all those fans have to turn into votes, right?
Chances: Fighting involves some fancy footwork, right? We think Couture will be able to translate those skills, assuming he has some sense of rhythm. But it might be hard for him to work with a partner instead of against one.
Chances: Well, Jones at least shows a willingness for trying new things: She switched from Summer Olympics track events to competing at the Winter Olympics as a bobsledder. But she didn’t win at either Olympics. Maybe this will be the event she finally wins?

Chances: We assume Parrish is not quite as sneaky in real life as she is on “Liars,” but we’re kind of hoping she plots against the other contestants to rise to the top, just like Mona would.
Chances: A compilation of his dancing on “Fresh Prince” has been viewed 7.5 million times on YouTube. Carlton wasn’t known for his moves, but his enthusiasm wins people over. Our money is on Ribeiro to win the whole thing.
Chances: Now that he’s semi-retired from racing, he runs marathons. Clearly, Waltrip has a competitive side, which always helps on something like “DWTS.” Maybe that drive (see what we did there?) will help him master a new set of skills.
Chances: Smiley has many honorary doctorates for his work discussing racial issues, but we’re not sure any of those will help him on the dance floor. We like the idea of an NPR host getting a little goofy, though.
Antonio Sabato Jr. Claim to fame: “General Hospital,” “Melrose Place” Chances: Sabato seems like one of those contestants who will surprise viewers with his charm and pizzazz. We give him good odds for reminding people why they liked him in the ’90s.
Sadie Robertson Claim to fame: She’s on “Duck Dynasty.” Chances: Robertson has written a book and is apparently a motivational speaker despite the fact that she’s only 17. With her full schedule, will she have time to focus on her dancing (and also high school, because she’s still in high school)?

Improve your meetings
Some of the most creative companies in the world like Google, Facebook and Apple are known for their walking meetings. Interestingly, the surroundings and environment don’t greatly impact thinking, according to a recent study: “I thought walking outside would blow everything out of the water, but walking on a treadmill in a small, boring room still had strong results, which surprised me, explains coauthor Marily Oppezzo.

Billionaire businessman Sir Richard Branson explains his unique leadership style in his new book. Sir Richard Branson has been an entrepreneur nearly his entire life, founding the now-famous Virgin Group in 1972 at the age of 22. In his latest book, “The Virgin Way: Everything I Know About Leadership, the businessman takes readers through everything from his hiring process to how entrepreneurs can plan their next move.
We sat down with Branson (in his limo, naturally) to get his advice for young workers. What’s the most important thing for recent college grads and other 20-somethings to keep in mind as they start out in their careers? Well, I think you only live once, and it’s important to spend your life doing

something you enjoy and really interests you and that you’ll be really pleased spending your life doing. So if you have a great idea for a business, if you feel you have an idea that can fill a gap and help make people’s lives better: Try it and make a go of it. Don’t do a profession because you think you’re going to make a lot of money in it and it’s going to be horribly dull. A lot of young people are told things like, “You need to do this, this and this, or you need this
degree, before you can start a business. How do you know when the time is right? I think if you want to run a business, I’m not sure that it’s necessary to spend too many years studying. I think it’s better if you get on and do it and learn while doing it. But if you have five or six years building in business rather than studying to build a business, you’re five or six years ahead of everyone else and then you’re not saddled with loads of debt. If you want to become an entrepreneur, I’d say it’s

How do you know who to hire and who to trust? Well, if it’s your first business, I suspect you’ll have some life-long friends, and it’s always good to have friends around you when building a business. I had two or three friends join me in the early days and it was delightful. Then you just have to get out and interview people and see if they are as passionate about what you do as you are. You want people who passionately believe in what you want to do and surround yourself with those kinds of people. You’ve said that you don’t read business books. Yeah, I haven’t read business books; I’ve glanced at one or two. I think there’s too many lists. So, what I’ve tried to do is write a book that’s more readable and it tells stories. What is the biggest mistake young entrepreneurs are making?
Branson breaks down his unique leadership style. / WIREIMAGE
I think a lot of young entrepreneurs are not good delegators; they try to do everything themselves. So they need to fight early on to learn the art of delegation. Why do you feel corporations are so stiing of creativity and personality? It’s strange, because working for companies should be a fun, pleasant experience. And so often, as you say, it is a stifling, boring experience. And people are made to dress in formal clothes — ties and suits. They work out of unpleasant environments and that constitutes their life. Most of their life is spent at work. It is sad and it often comes down to bad leadership, sadly, and a lack of realization that if they were good leaders they would make sure that people enjoyed their jobs.
Bonus question
What are your tips for somebody who has a great idea, but isn’t sure how to sell someone on it? Keep it simple and clearcut. And if you ďŹ nd that everybody blanks over, then maybe your idea is not a good one. Having said that, most people would say why an idea is not good. It’s very rare people will say an idea is great. So in the end, if you really believe in what you want to do, you just have to get on and do it. How to play Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1-9. There is no math involved. You solve the puzzle with reasoning and logic.
Doing nothing will embolden the powers behind ISIS Re: ‘What does US gain from fighting ISIS?’ (Metro, Sept. 12-14) Letter writer Joseph Connell is probably correct to write that for now, “ISIS poses no imminent or credible danger to America’s security.” The hooligans we see on the evening news are more ludicrous than anything else. The problem is the people is behind them. They are the alumni of Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party, who faithfully served the Soviet Union for years. If Vladimir Putin renews his relationship with them, we face years of crises.
Men can be victims, too The media’s broadcast of the condemnation of Ray Rice perpetuates our nation’s discrimination on the issue of domestic violence. While the amount of force used by Rice in the incident is debatable, it is indisputable that domestic violence is not genderspecific and male victims of domestic violence are not given the same consideration and assistance by society in general and by the state. If the outcome had resulted in Rice being knocked out, he would have been mocked. BYRON WATSON, VIA EMAIL

Giants catch case of drops at worst time NFL. New York squandered a chance to win with a handful of critical drops on Sunday.
The Giants dropped a tough, 25-14, decision to the undermanned Cardinals Sunday in their home opener. And drop was the operative word of the day, as wideout Victor Cruz and crew had five of them — many at crucial moments. Cruz owned up to his three, as he lamented lost opportunities to extend drives. He had a particularly costly drop on what would’ve been a first down one play before Ted Ginn returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown. “It was just concentration, myself included. I own up to all my mistakes and all the things that I’ve done wrong,” said Cruz. “We’ve got to focus in on the football. … A lot of [drops], or a majority of them, were on third down, so that’s something that we have to keep our concentration on in order to move the chains and convert.” Big Blue opened the season with a clunker in Detroit, but looked to have bounced back on Sunday against a Cardinals squad that didn’t have starting quarterback Carson Palmer, who was deactivated with a bum shoulder. Drew Stanton got his fifth career start and was rather efficient in leading four scoring drives for a Cardinals (20) squad that didn’t have

1
Wasted opportunities The Giants couldn’t get out of their own way in crucial segments. Usually sure-handed Victor Cruz had a few crucial drops on fourth quarter drives that could’ve extended Big Blue chances. Cornerback Zack Bowman missed the initial tackle on Ted Ginn’s 71-yard punt return for a touchdown despite having both hands wrapped around Ginn’s legs. And running back Rashad Jennings fumbled at the Cardinals’ 14-yard line with just over four minutes remaining to essentially end the comeback attempt.

anybody hitting you,” Coughlin said, adding the offense also had its troubles. “Wasted opportunities. Points, points, the game is about points.” Patrick Peterson, who is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the league, didn’t have a stellar day covering Cruz, as the wideout turned him around on numerous occasions. But even he noted Cruz didn’t seem like himself when it mattered most. “He’s normally surehanded, but at the end of the day fatigue plays a big part of that,” Peterson said. “He dropped the ball a few times, and obviously I’m happy he did.” TONY WILLIAMS @TBone8 sports@metro.us

Jets squander 18-point lead NFL. The Jets ran out to a 21-6 lead only to lose in Green Bay after a controversial late timeout. The wheels came off for the Jets, who gave up 21 unanswered points after a brilliant first 20 minutes in a 31-24 loss at the Packers. Aaron Rodgers fumbled on the first play from scrimmage to give the Jets a 7-0 lead just 1:49 into the game as Geno Smith’s 2-yard touchdown run put the visitors up early. The Jets sacked Rodgers twice on the next drive and Smith tossed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Eric Decker to give them a shocking 14-0 lead. The Jets allowed a field goal, but a methodical, 17-play drive put them up 21-3 in the second

and got back on track. Rodgers rebounded from his shaky start to finish 25-of-42 for 346 yards and three touchdowns.
2
Losing stars After the Jets gave up the Packers go-ahead touchdown midway
through the third quarter, Green Bay went for the two-point conversion. It didn’t matter as much in the grand scheme of things the Packers converted because Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was ejected for a fight after the play. Wilkerson is the team’s most dynamic player and in a game where the pass rush had to be dominant, the loss of Wilkerson hurt. Eric Decker was also sidelined midway through the third quarter on with a hamstring injury, so the Jets were without their
3
No takebacks The most costly mistake of the game ended up being one that shouldn’t have happened on multiple fronts. With the score 31-24 and five minutes to play, Smith tossed a touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley on fourth-and-4. Except, he didn’t. The refs had blown the play dead without the players hearing it due to a Jets timeout. Rex Ryan protested, saying he hadn’t called it. Turns out, Marty Mornhinweg had, even though coordinators can’t by the rules. The official, who had his back to the sideline, likely didn’t know who called it.
