Prendergast said the MTA has run announcements on inappropriate touching since 2009, and will take further steps to improve rider safety and reporting. They are: links on the MTA homepage, reviewing with subway employees on how to handle improper conduct reports, a revised map that shows NYPD Transit Bureau locations and a new public service announcement. MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said 940 new trains set to replace old cars as part of the 2015-209 Capital Program will have cameras installed. Kristin Davis, a one-time Manhattan madam who claimed to have supplied prostitutes to former Gov. Eliot Spitzer and campaigned against him last year for city comptroller, was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison for selling prescription drugs. Davis, whose campaign for public office

Her lawyer, Daniel Hochheiser, argued Davis, 39, should be given probation to allow her to continue on her path toward a new career as a

Scarborough indicted for misusing $80K in funds Queens. The State Assemblyman represents Jamaica and is accused of a host of charges. Queens Assemblyman William Scarborough has been indicted on state and federal charges for allegedly withdrawing campaign funds as cash for personal use. Scarborough, a Democrat who represents the 29th District that includes Jamaica, is accused of stealing and misappropriating $80,000 worth of contributions and travel vouchers. If convicted of all the charges against him, he faces up to 37 years in prison. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli addressed the developments
on Wednesday. The assemblyman turned himself in to authorities in Albany, Schneiderman said, and was arraigned on two felony charges. “When people donate money to a political campaign ‌ we have to be able to trust that the money is going to be used for a lawful purpose and not just go to a politicians pocket,â€? Schneiderman said. “It’s a very clear message that we’re sending out today: Elected officials cannot use taxpayer and campaign funds as their personal piggy banks,â€? DiNapoli said. Scarborough has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and denied wrongdoing following his arraignment, according to media reports from Albany. WENDY JOAN BIDDLECOMBE Wendy.Biddlecombe@metro.us

Rhode Island child with enterovirus dies after infection A Rhode Island child hospitalized with Enterovirus D68 has died of a bacterial infection in what state public health officials described on Wednesday as an unusual and dangerous combination.
The child, a 10-yearold girl who was not named, died last week as a result of a staph infection alongside the respiratory virus, the Rhode Island Department of Health said in a statement, calling it a “very rare combination that can cause very severe illness in children and adults.” She had been hospitalized for less than 24
hours when she died, and doctors do not know how or when she acquired the bacterial infection, said Christina Batastini, a spokeswoman for the state health department. “What we do know is that she presented with some sort of respiratory issues, difficulty breathing,” Batastini said. “Her parents did all the right things, they took her to
the emergency room immediately by ambulance and by the time she got to the hospital, the conditions became dire.” Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common bacteria and can be found in hospitals and other health care settings. Public health experts have long been concerned about it, especially in its drug-resistant form. REUTERS

U.S. Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned under fire on Wednesday after a series of security lapses came to light that showed gaping holes in the protective cocoon around President Barack Obama. Pierson, who had been in her position since March 2013, faced growing calls from lawmakers to step down in the fallout from a Sept. 19 incident in which an Iraq war veteran clambered over the White House fence, sprinted across the lawn and got deep inside the mansion before he was stopped. Pierson told a congressional committee on Tuesday she took “full responsibility” for security lapses.
She tendered her resignation to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, who accepted it. Her resignation came the day after it was disclosed that in a violation of protocol, an armed private security contractor rode on an elevator with Obama in Atlanta earlier this month and took pictures and video of the president on his phone. The lapses had raised concerns across Washington that Obama is not as protected as he should be.
Health experts were observing 12 to 18 people who were in contact with the first person to be diagnosed with the deadly Ebola virus in the United States and who was in serious condition in a Texas hospital, officials said on Wednesday. The confirmation that a man who flew to Texas from Liberia later fell ill
with the hemorrhagic fever put U.S. health officials and the public on alert to take steps to contain the virus. The patient was evaluated initially last Friday and sent home from Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital with antibiotics, a critical missed opportunity that could result in others being exposed to the virus, infectious disease experts said. The man was then admitted to the same hospital on Sunday. REUTERS

HURT AT WORK?
IMOGEN POOTS FILMMAGIC
Imogen Poots plays an instrumental part in “Jimi: All is by My Side, but her character — Keith Richards’ girlfriend Linda Keith — never got much thanks for cajoling the guitar god out of obscurity and helping him shape his style and persona. Andre Benjamin’s performance as Hendrix is incredible.
He’s electrifying. The first time I met him, I was so entranced by him. And I think, if anything, he had to quiet himself for Jimi. There’s a real intelligence and perceptiveness to somebody just observing and being quiet, and I think that’s something he wanted Jimi to have — and also an innate melancholy. I think that comes true. Linda Keith is not very well known, so did you feel any pressure trying to imitate her?
Our director spoke to her, and she was very cool. She was sort of like, “Go do your thing, I give you my blessing but I don’t want any part of it. In that way, it was certainly a relief, because if you meet the person face-to-face it’s a whole new pressure. But I really, really love Linda. You can see how important it was to her but also how cool she was in a way. I wouldn’t want Linda Keith to turn around and be like, “What have you done?!

SATISFYING TREATMENT for Erectile Dysfunction?1
Imogen Poots plays Linda Keith, the woman who helped launch the career of Jimi Hendrix (Andre Benjamin). / PATRICK REDMOND
For men with erectile dysfunction (ED), medication is not the only answer and may not work for some patients.2, 3, 4 There is a treatment, one that more than 300,000 men have chosen as a successful way to return to an active sex life.5
Get the facts on how a treatment for ED may significantly improve your sexual satisfaction. Record-straightening
Many thanks “You’d think Hendrix would have been a bit more appreciative,” says Poots. “I think what she knows is the idea that you can sort of nurture artists and support them, but they don’t belong to you. The audience and the listeners believe that a part of him belongs to them. ... It’s sort of the
same thing as making a film about Hendrix. People who love him will feel an inevitable ownership, like they want to see the Hendrix they want to see. But my favorite thing about the role, really, was the idea that you do all this and then you can step back and maybe just listen to the records.”
It’s fascinating to see her role in shaping who Jimi Hendrix eventually came to be. And I think it’s really, really authentic, actually, in terms of [writer/director John Ridley’s] storytelling. She very much was a catalyst for him. She was really instrumental in his career in London, and a lot of people maybe don’t know that. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.us

Jason Reitman takes on the Internet Interview. The director of “Men, Women & Children” says technology robs kids of innocence.
JASON REITMAN GETTY IMAGES FOR PARAMOUNT
To make a movie about the Internet, sometimes you need to build your own Internet. At least that was Jason Reitman’s approach for his latest film, “Men, Women & Children,” about how today’s technology complicates people’s attempts at love, sex and connection.
So, tell us about the Internet. I’m living in an age of uncertainty in my business, which is caused by the Internet, which has brought uncertainty to so many people’s lives — in their jobs, [romances[ and relationships with their children. It is a moment of great question. It is the dawn of an industry like humanity has never seen. I don’t think that the printing press comes close. How much do you think technology changes how we deal with those relationships? It’s the ability to communicate with strangers, to communicate with the

Making the whole film look good How did you go about the task of making it seem interesting to watch people staring at their phones and computer screens? We had to build the Internet; the Internet is a location in this film. For every scene we built our
own software that would emulate the Internet that would have pages you could navigate where every user, every like, every ad was our own. The first thing was to create an Internet that we 100 percent recognize the way that we would recognize walking down the street and into a Starbucks or Gap. Yes this is the Internet — this is the world I live in on a daily basis.
unknown. The Internet is this curiosity box that allows us to explore everything inside us, whether it’s good or bad. Everything is instantaneous, and the availability to young people threatens the concept of innocence, if you believe in it at all. There is something nice about the concept of innocence, that there is a moment where we are untouched, but that is kind of dissipating. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.lu

Discover the city’s infinite possibilities The outstanding Idina Menzel returns to Broadway in this incredible new musical.
T
ony Awardwinner Idina Menzel (“Wicked,” “Frozen,” “Glee,” “Rent”) brings her powerhouse voice to “If/Then.” “It’s the most thrilling new musical in years,” cheers New York Magazine’s theater critic Jesse Green. “Every single thing is new — you absolutely never know what is going to happen, right up the last, powerfully moving beat.” It’s a new look at New York: Never before has a Broadway musical come so alive with the rich diversity of contemporary relationships in the Big Apple. Tony Award-winner LaChanze (“The Color Purple”), Anthony Rapp
(“Rent”), James Snyder (“Cry-Baby”) and the rest of the mega-watt cast give remarkable performances reflecting life and love in the ever-changing city around us, from noisy streets to quiet bars, from first dates to final goodbyes. And, it’s a score for today: “I wanted the music to feel melodic and romantic and to feel like the city was rising up to meet the characters,” composer Tom Kitt said. He and bookwriter-lyricist Brian Yorkey (the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning team behind “Next to Normal”) have written a riveting score of pulsing rock songs and breathtak-
ing ballads that bring New York City’s indomitable spirit to vibrant life. It’s also a story about now: “If/Then” tells a totally new story with a daringly original conceit, simultaneously following one woman’s two possible life paths: as a high-powered career woman or as a loving wife and mother. It paints a deeply moving portrait of the lives we lead, as well as the lives we might have lead. Broadway has never seen — or felt — anything like it. Get your tickets now and experience the show about New York today, and all the possibilities of tomorrow.

Saint Laurent This collection had a strong feeling of Swinging Sixties London, showing miniskirts paired with box jackets, high-waisted denim or leather shorts and sometimes floral- or boho-printed dresses worn with platform shoes. The latter are no doubt a summer bestseller in the making.

Paris Fashion Week: Heritage meets modernity The fashion capital shows it cares about the bottom line with designers creating some of the most wearable collections to date. But don’t worry, Paris won’t let the cash register get in the way of creativity. ELODIE NOEL, MWN

Chanel
After the spectacular recreation of a supermarket last season, Chanel managed to surprise again by welcoming guests to “Boulevard Chanel” — a life-sized mock-up of the famous Parisian street. In this
magnificent set, audience members were immersed in a women’s rights protest involving models like Gisele Bundchen, Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner and Caroline de Maigret. During this demonstration, Lagerfeld showed that
for him, unlike most designers, next summer will be an explosion of colors and prints, with shots of khaki and soft pastels. Even the traditional tweed and box jackets felt like they had been splashed with a painter’s palette.

Dior
Celine
Raf Simons started the Dior show with a couple of clinical white outfits: simple tops with straight skinny pants beautified with a touch of floral jacquard. The clean cutting continued into tailored ensembles. Bermuda shorts gave a hint of a boyish vibe in an otherwise very feminine collection.
Although there was no obvious theme in the collection, dainty floral prints with a utilitarian edge and fringed hem knit tank dresses created a juxtaposition of work and play. Phoebe Philo, like many of her contemporaries, blurred the seasonal lines with belted dark coats and wide-legged pleated pants.

Givenchy
Balenciaga
Louis Vuitton
The Chloe show took an unexpected emotional turn last Sunday with the death of Gaby Aghion, who founded the fashion line back in 1952. Creative director Clare Waight Keller paid tribute to the house’s young heritage with some delicate white lace dresses and flowing ethnic-style tunics.
Black and white starred in an interesting mix of sexy gladiator and bohemian chic. Racy thigh-high leather boots and structured tailored jackets paired with light skirts and dresses. It was all seductive, but Riccardo Tisci’s craftsmanship truly came through in the baby doll dresses using leather, lace and studs.
Alexander Wang injected Balenciaga with his signature sporty vibe using mesh, sometimes as a transparent dress or as ornamentation on plain clothes. Wang’s use of tulle softened the show’s tone and gave a luxurious feeling, in a collection that was mostly made up of soft pastels, lilac grays, faded pinks and creamy off-white.
It’s only Nicolas Ghesquiere’s second outing for the house, and therefore an occasion to showcase what he’s got in his creative locker. That meant shift dresses in orange and black striped leather, lace and mesh styles. Velvet was used for wide pants and flowerprinted jackets, giving a ’70s feel to the line.
DATING
What the animal kingdom can teach us about love Dating. We can learn a lot about commitment from our fellow creatures.
Be truthful
There’s a lot we can learn about love from the birds and the bees — and the chickens, monkeys and squirrels. At least, that’s true according to Jennifer Verdolin, an animal behavior expert and the author of the new book “Wild Connection: What Animal Courtship and Mating Tell Us About Human Relationships.” Verdolin says that her own experiences in the dating world inspired her to start writing. “I thought, ‘How is it that I am an expert in animal behavior, yet I’m making all of these mistakes?’” she asks. “We have this cultural idea of what dating and romance is, but if we just had a little awareness, we could make choices that are healthy.” Verdolin shares some of the most important things she learned about relationships through her work.
Don’t deliberately mislead potential partners
Relationships take work, even for horses. / AMANA IMAGES Live and learn
Decide on fidelity
Rejection isn’t personal
Monogamy isn’t necessarily natural
It’s a myth that all creatures in the animal kingdom find partners easily. “I didn’t take rejection well,” says Verdolin. “But it really wasn’t personal, this was just not the right person for me. Looking at animals and how easily they were rejected, I started to become really focused.” She began asking, “Is this a good match for me?”
LAKSHMI GANDHI @LakshmiGandhi lakshmi.gandhi@metro.us
Not every animal mates for life. Squirrels, for example, have several short-term partners over the course of their lifetimes. The nature of their courtship process, says Verdolin, reflects this. “The choices are often made based on physical appearance,” she notes.

Cutting Edge Means Less Cutting
One of the most important animal behaviors singles can emulate is si honesty, says Verdolin. ho People often exaggerPe ate on first dates. “It’s at common to say ‘sure I co love shooting pool’ even lo when you don’t,” notes w Verdolin. “Animals don’t Ve really do this. They don’t re deceive.” de This also is true when it comes to sex. Animals who aren’t looking for w a commitment always make that clear, early on. m

Be selective
It’s ok to be choosy It sounds funny, but Verdolin says she encourages daters to think like chickens when looking for a long-term partner. Women are often criticized for being “too picky” when it comes to dating, but if Verdolin has learned anything, it’s that being particular is a good thing. “Hens are very picky when it comes to choosing a mate, and that happens with a lot of birds.” The reason chickens and other birds are so careful about who they share their lives with is because they usually mate for life, says Verdolin. Albatrosses, the large birds that live in the Pacific, often stay with their mates for decades, but their courtships can take years. “If you are going to have a relationship that’s going to last 50 years, you should be picky,” Verdolin says. “These are not quick decisions.”

NFL isn’t the problem Re: ‘NFL rating rise despite domestic violence concerns’ (Metro, Oct. 1) I’m not surprised that people are still watching football; I’m surprised that we’re expected not to. The NFL is not the problem that requires addressing, the problem is domestic violence. Personally, I appreciate the support of any large organization in the stand against domestic violence. We (the people concerned about those whom are abused) should focus on the root of the problem not the side effects. Domestic violence roots from our society, there is a generation of children, whom have now grown into adults, that lived in an abusive home.
Think of your fellow commuters Re: ‘Traffic laws not an “I will if you will” issue’ (Metro, Sept. 30) Let’s remind ourselves that each one of us is one of the players in this game. So — when you drive a car, be observant, courteous and patient; when you ride a bike, avoid life-threatening risks; and, when you’re a pedestrian, be mindful of the fact the you know how annoying it is to be in a car or on a bike and find a street blocked by jay-walkers. Brady calls out offense Patriots quarterback Tom Brady called out his own offense on Wednesday after an ugly, 41-14 loss on Monday to the Chiefs. “I don’t think we’ve played well for a long time,” Brady told WEEI radio. The Patriots are 2-2 on the season, but rank 30th in the NFL in passing yards and 23rd in rushing yards. They play the Jets on Oct. 16 in Foxboro.

Smith draft choice ‘all Idzik’: Source NFL. A Jets team source said the draft room was divided over whether the QB could succeed. It might’ve been a “Jets decision” as general manager John Idzik likes to say, but it wasn’t a unanimous decision to draft Geno Smith last year. Speaking to Metro, multiple team sources say the potential was evident in Smith, who now enters his second year as the Jets’ starting quarterback, but there was a recognition among management that he was far from a finished product. Even more telling, some in the Jets draft room felt Smith might never develop to be a long-term solution. “The question was ‘Can he be the guy?’ The room was split,” one team source told Metro. “This wasn’t a slam dunk.” All team sources spoke on the condition of anonymity. Everyone in the draft room last year agreed

“There were plenty of people [in the Jets front office] who said that he may not be the long-term solution at the position.” Team source, on the team’s decision to draft Geno Smith in 2013
Smith had talent and that he could develop into a good quarterback. But there was a noticeable split in the room on whether he would. “John is big on everyone coming together and everyone being a part of it — the decision,” a source said. “But at the end of the day, John is a big believer in his way and the way he wants to do things. It all came down here to John.
It’s all John — 100 percent.” Head coach Rex Ryan again committed to Smith as the team’s quarterback on Wednesday. “I think he will finish the game [Sunday],” Ryan said. “I think we’ll play well. I think Geno will play well.” KRISTIAN DYER @KristianRDyer

Line dance
Offensive line, Beatty step up for Giants While quarterback Eli Manning will get a lion’s share of the credit for the turnaround, the recent two-game winning streak can also be attributed to the improving play of the maligned offensive line. Left tackle Will Beatty, who is the elder statesman of Big Blue’s reworked line, has suddenly turned around his season and become a consistent force on Manning’s blind side. “I am playing real good. I don’t feel like I am playing at my best yet, though,” Beatty said. “There are still things I can improve [like] running blocks, downfield hitting and things like that. But I do feel good. I feel like [I’m] focused and just going out there each and every play, one at a time.” TONY WILLIAMS

gets to face a dream quintet of run defenses: Titans, Steelers, Jaguars, Raiders, Bucs. Projected to start and get at least 65 percent of the running back touches for the Browns, all Tate has to do is stay healthy to return to borderline RB1 numbers during this stretch. It’s also a nice time to buy low on Jordan Cameron and add Andrew Hawkins as well as the Browns D/ST.
In Week 3, Frank Gore totaled 10 yards against the Cardinals’ rugged run defense. In Week 4, he torched the Eagles for 174 total yards and a touchdown. Coincidence? Of course not. Matchups are at the heart of our weekly decisions, the organ that pumps the blood into our team. So if your squad is scuffling around at 2-2, 1-3 or (god forbid) 0-4, you need wins now. Some upcoming scheduling notes to be aware of:
Giant opportunity
Brown out Ben Tate (knee) is getting healthy just in time. Over the next five games, he
Rueben Randle has just one touchdown catch, but expect more soon. / GETTY IMAGES
I’m not ready to buy into an all-out Eli Manning resurgence yet. But he has put together three strong games in a row, and it’s
not going to get any tougher. Atlanta’s defense is what we all thought Dallas’ would be before the season, an absolute sieve. Then the Giants have the pleasure of seeing the Eagles, Cowboys and Colts in their next three games. Rueben Randle, on the verge of a breakout, needs to be owned across the board. Amazingly, Rashad Jennings profiles as a better bet than someone like Eddie Lacy. Waiver gem Larry Donnell is not going anywhere.
Ram tough If any of your Rams have a big game against the Eagles in Philly on
Sunday, it’s time to sell. In Weeks 6 to 12, St. Louis faces Seattle, Arizona, Denver, San Diego, Kansas City and San Francisco twice. It will be especially tough sledding for Zac Stacy, as these teams have especially strong run defenses and the Rams project to fall behind quickly often. Already 1-2 in 2014, a Rams team which opened the season with so much promise has a very realistic shot at owning a 1-10 record heading into Week 13.

Seahawks (2-1) It’s interesting to note that our Top 4 teams from last week remain in that order. The reason: All four had byes. After that, there’s been upheaval. As for Seattle: They play at Washington on Monday night.

Ravens (3-1)
Lions (3-1)
Cowboys (3-1)
The Broncos host the undefeated Cardinals Sunday in what could be a Super Bowl preview. It would be nice if the Broncos could get Demaryius Thomas going.
The quarterback situation remains strange. Bruce Arians said they would have “liked to see more from Carson Palmer during the bye week. Drew Stanton may play Sunday.
It wasn’t too long ago Baltimore was a candidate to go 3-13 this season as it lost to the Bengals in Week 1 and faced the second Ray Rice video scandal break.
How good does the Golden Tate pickup look? With Calvin Johnson dinged up, Tate stepped in and caught 116 of Matthew Staord’s 293 passing yards against the Jets.
We just couldn’t put the Cowboys in the single digits here. Their 3-1 record is certainly a surprise, but they’ve beaten teams with a combined record of 3-8 this season.

Bengals (3-0)
Chargers (3-1)
Eagles (3-1)
Packers (2-2)
How do the Bengals gain more respect in these rankings? Knock o the limping Patriots this Sunday night in Foxboro. They rarely lose back-to-back.
Jacksonville actually led the Chargers midway through the second quarter Sunday, but San Diego predictably cruised in the second half.
Nick Foles’ quarterback rating against San Francisco on Sunday? A cool 42.3. That’s hard to do. And LeSean McCoy continues to struggle.
Putting 38 points on the board against a Bears defense in Chicago ain’t what it used to be, but Aaron Rodgers certainly looked like an MVP.
