With the recent Ebola scare as a backdrop, emergency crews in hazmat gear were on the scene at Boston Logan International Airport on Monday after an Air Emirates flight carrying five sick people landed there. Air Flight 237, a Boeing 777, landed at Logan’s Terminal E between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Photographs taken at the scene showed several emergency vehicles gathered around the plane, with some responders in

protective medical suits. Massport confirmed that at least five people on the plane showed flu-like symptoms and were taken to the hospital. None of the passengers were believed to have traveled from West Africa, where a massive Ebola outbreak has killed more than 4,000. People awaiting the flight’s arrival from Dubai told Metro that passengers were apparently coughing aboard the flight, and medical personnel were checking each person individually, which delayed passengers from disembarking for hours. “They are taking precautionary steps and that’s a good thing. It’s better that they rule everything out, especially with the recent Ebola scare,” said Dr. Khatija Gaffar, a general prac-

Testimony to continue in Phillipos trial Testimony is set to resume today in the trial of a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Robel Phillipos, 20, is charged with lying to investigators in the days following the deadly 2013 bombings. Prosecutors say he initially

told detectives he did not accompany two other men to Tsarnaev’s dorm to remove evidence, but later admitted his involvement. Last week one of the men, Azamat Tazhayakov, testified that he saw Phillipos smoke marijuana on the day in question. Defense attorneys have argued that Phillipos was too high to remember if he was in the room. METRO

Abington. Boston Zombie Apocalypse actors offer tips on how to be terrifying Zombies: They’re bloody, ugly, and slow as hell, but we love ’em. That must be why Boston Zombie Apocalypse in Abington attracts thousands of fright-loving fans to a dark warehouse where they use airsoft guns to shoot the living dead. Zombie Mark Troy, 52, has really sunk his teeth into the role. “It’s the look, the stare,” said Troy. “Some people are forward-thrusting zombies, but I like to bounce back on my heels and walk as though I have a string coming out of my chest.” Troy recounted one instance in which a man wet his pants. “His hands were shaking, and I noticed his crotch area went dark,” said Troy. “A fullgrown man stepped out of reality and into this fantasy world we’ve created and his bladder failed him.” Zombie Kenny Francis, 23, will stay in character unless

The Ripple Effect If you are living by the old money paradigm, your financial future is in serious jeopardy. Our country is still feeling the ripple effect from the 2008 financial crash. And, I believe another one is on the horizon.

Investors Get Money To Work For Them

The rules have changed. Sadly, most people still operate under the old money paradigm: go to school; get a job; work hard; save; invest in a 401k, etc. How’s that working out for you? For most people, it’s NOT!

If you cling to the old money paradigm, you will have to work harder and harder. Investors get money to work for them, instead of constantly working for money. The poor and middle class buy liabilities they mistake for assets. Investors acquire assets.

Things to know before you get rich

TRADE LIKE A MILLIONAIRE

TIMOTHY SYKES TIMOTHYSYKES.COM Timothy Sykes is a millionaire stock trader and entrepreneur.

Now that I teach people how to trade successfully in the stock market, I learned that showing off a little inspires students to work harder on their studies, so I take pride in my humble brags. But I wish I’d known these three things before I got rich and splurged.

Lesson No. 1: Lamborghinis are a pain I have a Lamborghini that cost nearly $250,000, but while I was driving my friend’s Jeep Cherokee recently, I wished I could switch cars. Sure, everyone stares and

takes pictures of my car, and it’s the best tool for inspiring students, but it’s also annoying! In Miami, I have to pay $80 to $100 to park it out front everywhere for easier access. And don’t get me started about miles-per-gallon and the $3,000 it cost to replace a side-view mirror. The worst is that taking road trips will make your back ache for a week!

Lesson No. 2: The bigger the mansion, the more problems

When you consider all the insect issues, electrical problems, security costs and other problems that required a house manager for a while (until he quit due to all the issues), having a big mansion is just not worth it.

Lesson No. 3: Talking about your money is taboo I understand that many people in this world have so little, but I only bring up my wealth because I teach the exact

And the best way to get the word out is to show off my money and the lifestyle it can buy. I can correct my mistakes — I’ll ditch my Lamborghini soon, and I’ve already gotten rid of the mansion — but it’s time more successful people talked like this, as I wish somebody had told me all of this before I got rich.

The U.S. stock markets have begun to fade. I warned about this two weeks ago, and thousands of people have thanked me for doing so.

Kat Dennings is dating Josh Groban?

REALLY? ALL PHOTOS GETTY IMAGES

Well, this one certainly caught me completely off-guard. Adorable and hilarious “Thor” and “2 Broke Girls” star Kat Dennings hit the red carpet at a charity event in L.A. this weekend with her new boyfriend — Josh Groban. No, seriously. Dennings even posted an Instagram pic of the pair with the caption, “I ship it.” Now, if I’m up on my Internet lingo, that should mean that they’re not actually a couple but Dennings is eager

Michael Lohan and ‘Girls Gone Wild’ adds up to one big lawsuit

This one is just dripping with sophistication: Michael Lohan, “Girls Gone Wild,” courtroom drama — it’s practically ripped from the scripts of “Downton Abbey”! So here’s the deal: The elder Lohan finds himself in trouble for failing to respond to a lawsuit from a man he duped into loaning him $25,000 for a venture to dub the “Girls Gone Wild” videos into Spanish. Richard Reitano initially sued Lohan for the original investment plus interest as well as $1 million for his hurt feelings, but Lohan never responded to the lawsuit. And it’s not like him to keep his mouth shut. So Reitano dropped the million and had a judge take another look at it, and now Lohan has to pay

Even though Michael Lohan is the father of a girl gone wild, it does not qualify him to translate “Girls Gone Wild” movies into Spanish.

up. All this time, no one bothered pointing out to Lohan or Reitano that “Girls Gone

Wild” isn’t exactly a genre that suffers from a language barrier?

How dare John Cleese insult Taylor Swift’s cat!

I know I should try to not mention Taylor Swift or her cats every day, but this one is too much fun. Because Monty Python vet John Cleese is saying what we’re all thinking: Olivia Benson looks weird. During a shared interview on “The Graham Norton Show,” Cleese responded to a pic of the cat by asking, “How did it have the accident?” confounding Swift. “Is that a proper cat or is it damaged? That’s the weirdest cat I’ve ever seen in my life.” He also makes a subtle dig at Swift’s habit of carrying Ms. Benson around in public, telling her — quite pointedly

to write fan-fiction about them being a couple. Wait, that’s not what it means, is it? Jargon confusion aside, apparently this is real. A source even told E! News that “they were so cute together,” which is pretty much legally binding in Hollywood. To be fair, though, Groban has enough of a track record with impressive girlfriends — January Jones and, allegedly, Katy Perry — that at this point I’m willing to dub him the nice-guy alternative to David Spade. Why did I pick David Spade here? Simple: Spade’s history of punching above his weight class, so to speak, is legendary.

THE WORD Ned Ehrbar takes on the world of gossip. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar @metro.us

— that he didn’t bring his cat to the show because “it didn’t want to come.” It’s deliciously awkward. Look it up online.

Also look up the funny (but kind of nasty things) Cleese said about his Monty Python co-founders.

Meet Sergei Kholodovskii, and then hate him A Russian techie named Sergei Kholodovskii insists he’s the man behind a website circulating the hundreds of leaked celebrity nude photos — and he has zero shame, according to the Sun, because he didn’t do the initial hacking: “All the pictures were taken from open sources. We are not using any secret or hacked stuff here,” says Kholodovskii, who doesn’t “see anything wrong with” posting hacked nudes. “If somebody is unhappy to the point of taking action to sue us? Well, we’ll just shut down the website and that will be it.” I think Jennifer Lawrence would beg to differ on that last point. Kholodovskii, by the way, describes himself as a 28-year-old thrill-seeker who has a Porsche and a poledancing wife. And if that hasn’t made up your mind about him, he has a response to actresses like Lawrence who take issue with their property being stolen and distributed: “I would not call it

sex abuse. These pictures are good PR for these celebrities,” he insists. “Some of them were not that known before. Now people are talking about them.” A real charmer, isn’t he?

Angelina Jolie is a classy dame — literally Cleese appears to have upset Swift. / BBC/YOUTUBE

2

That’s Dame Angelina Jolie to you — unless you’re in the U.K., confusingly enough. Jolie headed to Buckingham Palace last week to meet Queen Elizabeth II and become an honorary dame for her work fighting sexual violence and assisting U.K. foreign policy.

The award she received is a bit of a mouthful: Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George. Since Jolie is not a British citizen, she can’t officially be addressed as a dame in the U.K. But I’m not going to let that stop me.

Today, Roseanne Barr has an idea, Stephen Fry is in a bit of a pickle and Paris Hilton is a tough critic. @therealroseanne: once again i will tell u the way to fix everything that is wrong in the world @stephenfry: Advice urgently sought. Put hand cream on my face without reading label. If I put face cream on my hands will it compensate, or am I doomed? @ParisHilton: Just saw the movie Annabelle. It was so brutal & boring. Not scary at all. It was so bad that I walked out.

I used to get thousands of letters from kids and they would tell me things they would like to see in future books — and a lot of them were weightier topics. So in many cases, the serious topics were included because readers had asked for them. If you were to start “The Baby-Sitters Club series today, would you integrate social media and modern technology? Yes, absolutely. It would make the girls more contem-

I write much slower, and I consider every single word more carefully than I did before. EMILY LAURENCE @EmLaurence

3 Halloween treats for kids Cooking with kids. These sweet snacks are as good to eat as they are to Instagram. Playing dress-up and collecting heaps of candy is something almost every kid looks forward to each Halloween, but another way to celebrate with your children is to get them into the kitchen to bake some festive treats together. Yes, things might get a little messier than usual, but your son or daughter will have a lot of fun contributing to these treats. “My First Baking Book” has over 50 recipes for parents to make with help from their kids. It’s not only a great way to spend time together, but it teaches children what goes into food and how to measure, which makes learning about numbers interactive. You can even sneakily help sharpen their reading skills by having them read the recipe aloud. It also helps kids establish independence: They’ll take pride in mixing the batter by themselves or measuring out the ingredients. Here, we highlight just three of the festive ideas from the book. For the complete step-by-step recipes, purchase “My First Baking Book” on Amazon. EMILY LAURENCE @EmLaurence

Little Devils’ Cakes These yummy cupcakes only take 15 minutes to prep and 10 to 15 minutes to bake, so you can whip up an impressive batch for your child’s class quickly without

stressing out. The key to making the devils’ horns is using ready-to-use fondant. Let your child take small pieces of the fondant, roll them unto devils’ horns and stick them into the wet icing. Teamwork!

Cobweb Cookies Kids will love helping form the squishy cookie dough and making the cookie slices. The good thing about cobwebs is they’re meant to look a little tangled and messy, so your child can just zig-zag the black icing pen all over the sugar cookies when they’re ready to decorate.

Happy or not happy with the way things are? Vote! Election Day is fast approaching and is a day all registered American voters should step up to the plate and vote for the candidate of their choice. We need to vote for those candidates and those issues that best serve the city, state and local communities. But there are those who say, “My vote doesn’t count, or “The

Corporations are parasites What’s new in today’s world? Corporate inversions: A company buys a foreign subsidiary and then through the magic of paperwork proclaims itself to now be a foreign company owned by the subsidiary — all for the purpose of paying less in taxes. Congress estimates that inversions will cost the Treasury almost $20 billion over the next 10 years. Fortune magazine believes that it will cost much more. We know how conservatives feel about individuals who

take advantage of government programs they’re legally entitled to. But when it comes to corporations who (on a much larger scale) screw the U.S. government while still enjoying all the infrastructure and security benefits said government provides, they say things like, “The company is more competitive when it puts its headquarters overseas.” ROBERT LAROSA, VIA EMAIL

This is not going to happen if we don’t vote. Whatever happens and whoever gets elected will affect all of us. Time is now for Vereen to increase production NFL. Shane Vereen has shown flashes of brilliance, but he now must be a consistent performer. Shane Vereen had his least productive day of the 2014 season in the Patriots’ 37-22 win at Buffalo as he ran for just four yards on five carries and caught just one ball for three yards. Nonetheless, Vereen’s workload is about to see a significant uptick. Stevan Ridley tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Sunday and is done for the season. Up until the injury against the Bills, Ridley looked as though he was becoming something of a featured back for the Patriots as his fumbling issues had subsided. He did not cough it up once in the 94 times he rushed the ball this season. After getting just eight carries in Week 1 against Miami, Ridley carried the ball 25 times for 101 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 at Minnesota and got 19 touches in Week 3 against Oakland, running for 54 yards. He had just five carries against Kansas City (28 yards), but responded with 113 yards rushing when he carried the ball a season-high 27 times against the Bengals. And before he was injured late in the third quarter Sunday against the Bills, he had carried the ball 10 times for 23 yards. Vereen, meanwhile, has long been thought of as more

End of the line Stevan Ridley may very well have played his final game as a New England Patriot. •

The fourth-year running back out of LSU tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Sunday and will not play again in 2014.

Ridley will be an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2014 NFL season.

Ridley, a third-round draft pick in 2011, has gained 2,817 yards on the ground in his NFL career.

Bruins’ offense has been offensive to start the season A common worry about the Bruins in this most recent, championship-level era has been that they often peak too early. The B’s went 8-4-0 in the first month of the 2013-14 season and 5-1-1 in the first month of their shortened 2012-13 campaign. A quick start has not transpired in 2014-15 as the Bruins dropped their third straight game Monday, a 2-1 lastsecond loss to the Avalanche at TD Garden, and are now 1-3 not even a week into the season. The Bruins didn’t lose

three games in a row all last season. Their last three-game losing streak occured when they dropped three straight to the Blackhawks after being up 2-1 in the 2012-13 Stanley Cup Final. Through four games, Carl Soderberg leads the team in points with three. Patrice Bergeron and Reilly Smith both have two points on the year. Loui Eriksson scored the lone Bruins goal Monday, on a power play in the second period. Needless to say, putting the puck in the net has been an issue for Boston in the first week of play. The B’s are averaging exactly one goal per game so far as they scored twice at home against

The only teams in the Eastern Conference that have scored less than four goals total so far this season have been the Panthers and Sabres, though both of those teams have only played two games apiece. If the B’s are to cure their

Tuukka Rask is expected to be back in net for the B’s against the Red Wings as Niklas Svedberg was the starting goaltender Monday. Svedberg performed relatively well, turning away 28 Colorado shots.
